How exciting! This is also, where once a year a huge fantasy festival, similar to a renaissance fair is held. At least, in the gigantic parks and gardens that belong to this castle. It's called Elfia (formerly Elf Fantasy Fair). I visited this festival in 2010 or 2011. I remember them having actual waterfalls in their gardens, where all the fairy cosplayers would pose for photos, and there was an Asian part with Buddha statues hidden in the vegetation, and of course the rose gardens. All the dressed up ladies in their Victorian gowns sat there to have their little tea parties inside small gazebos among the roses. People came in steampunk costumes, and knights in real armour. They had a group of Nazgul from Lord of the Rings on horses, which were pretty intimidating because they looked so real! Someone dressed as Jack Sparrow and looked so much like Johnny Depp, it was uncanny!
I was dressed up in a sort of belly dancer/gypsy outfit, and it was so much fun strolling along these beautiful paths, resting beside the water, seeing all the different plants, and then there was so much music and food and things to buy and workshops to attend, too. Watching this video brought back fun memories!! And so interesting to now have seen the castle from the inside, because that certainly didn't happen when I was there! What a delight! 😀 Love and greetings from Germany! 💜

Wow, so nice to see the same antiques my grandmother and my father used to have. It brings back memories! Like the armoire, including the vases on top (maybe they are not exactly the same) next to the piano and the standing clock on the left of the tulpenvaas (tulipvase). Sadly it was all sold. Who knows, maybe it ended up there as we live near, in the middle between Maastricht and Arcen. Thorn, Philip might know it. It used to be an independent mini state, ruled by royal women for over 800years and its abbey has mummies. And in the city centre, all houses are white, which Thorn is famous for. As you can imagine, it's a very touristy place. Though it is a very small city (it has city rights) as it has less than 2500 inhabitants. We have no castle, but the abbey is beautiful! I think you'd love it as well as the rich history of fierce, independent women who used to rule Thorn :)

What a beautiful castle with a magnificent inside display of wonderful furniture, paintings and painted ceilings. The gardens are truly magnificent, even in winter. Can't wait until Stephanie shows them off in summer.

It would be nice if all of the abandoned Castles and Chateaus could be turned over to a Foundation instead of just rotting away. What they have done here with this Castle and the gardens is amazing! It has the best care takers!! Thank you Stephanie for this amazing tour.

If you understand French, there is a great vlog about restoration of Chateaux that I have heard of Chateaux SO. A society of French Owners does the vlog.

What charming hosts. I will be looking forward to the summer garden tour. I hope the same gardener show us around. He's delightful. I can't wait to hear him talk about his plants. Thanks Stephanie and Philip. A diversion was just the right medicine to start my day.
