    I love Amy and Marc for their intelligence and sense of humour ❤ That bedroom is the most beautiful I’ve seen on all the chateau vlogs I think. I spotted a king parrot on the wall fabric. One of my favourite birds here in Australia. Good to see Joseph Banks get a mention. He came to Australia with James Cook and took so many botanical samples back to England. Botany Bay was named because of this. The history of the chateau is amazing. Well done Stephanie and Philip for your work in bringing us this wonderful vLog👏👏👏😘

    Food for thought: The mystery of the Chateau de Rosières and its manmade stone formation is certainly intriguing. The unusually heavy presence of sulfur on some of the granite stones might point to a couple of possible theories. Sulfur was used in ancient religious ceremonies for fumigation, purification of the air surfaces to protect against disease and also as incense. The hilltop location would fit the idea of a religious site connection. Another thought is that in medieval times sulfur was used along with charcoal (fire pit) and saltpeter to make gunpowder. In a later medieval era the gunpowder was ‘corned’, that is, it was placed in covered or vaulted areas to dry it out. Eventually the separate ingredients were also milled into a finer powder and then mixed together for greater explosive effect. Gunpowder was made in times of war at individual castles/chateaux but for safety it was usually made at a site some distance from the chateaux and stored away from inhabited buildings. How many are now left wondering if the mystery will ever be solved?

    The circle at on the top plateau made me immediately think of an Iron Age roundhouse. Outer stone foundation, inner circle for the hearth. If the whole site was almost a type of Iron Age "fortress," then the chief could have lived on the upper plateau. Note sure what French law allows, but some simple field walking in and around the circle, without digging, might yield some pottery that could be dated.

    • @Chroniclesofrosieres
      @Chroniclesofrosieres 2 года назад +11

      This is exactly the sort of thing we're thinking. There are a number of sites near here with similar platforms but more of them, so it looks like a settlement. We've done some casual surveying of the land around but it's quite densely wooded and has had heavy agriculture over the centuries so we've not found much. We hope to see an expert soon thought!

    Consider having a LIDAR scan of the Chateau grounds. First it may reveal new areas of interest, second it can give you the physical context of the features and their relationship to each other. I am not sure what the chemical make up of your spring water is, but does it have a Sulphur component, the spring may have fed into the gaulic platform, leaving a residue of Sulphur over time. A geologist maybe of great help answering the Sulphur question and be able to tell you if the stone make up is local or brought in. Since the spring is capped hard to tell where original flow was or if it had been diverted previously.They could try partnering with a university that does specialize in the era to study. Or apply to Time Team to get it started. It looks like a really cool place.

    In America, we would often store coal at the highest peak to ensure less devastation from fire! Reaching a bit, but if he’s correct that that was a foundation for a wooden structure and it was a massive coal store, that would explain the sulfur and the holes! They were built to allow the coal dust to escape with air to prevent buildup and decrease the risk of fires 🤗

    Thank you, Stephanie for a fabulous tour and video of Marc, Amy, Clement and little Juliette. I recently started watching a few of their videos and was soon "hooked". I love the chateau, the estate, the history and mostly the people who live here. I love their vision for the chateau and grounds, their creativity, intelligence, their love for animals and nature and I love their sense of humour. It was perfect timing to find this video now. Thank you so much for sharing and I look forward to watching more of your new channel in the near future. ox

    I watch their videos a long time ago and I was very impressed by this couples enthusiasm .It was before the children came and she did yoga classes. Good to see how they have got on .
