  • I'm delighted to share this jewel box of a home with you. Sarah and George welcome us into the early 19th century Chateau de Brives, which they've turned into the perfect 21st century family home. Cutting edge for its time (with a floating spiral staircase and en suite bathrooms for every bedroom!) the chateau had fallen into a dilapidated state when Sarah and George bought it, but they've spent the last 11 years completely renovating it with style, flair and vision...
To find out more about Sarah and George's life at their chateau, follow them on Instagram at @chateaudebrives or check out their website www.chateaudebrives.com
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
In 'Sundays at the Chateau' Stephanie shares French chateau life and culture with you ❤️
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. You have made The Chateau Diaries one of the top 400 Patreon accounts in the world, and have transformed not only our lives here, but the future of this beautiful chateau! I’m overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

The American decorator Brian McCarthy says the same thing about popular decor, and calls it "boutique hotel" and complains that is what most people want instead of the look of a real home. I agree with him so much. So many online decorators are pushing that look under a lot of different styles. The hallmarks of boutique hotel is that everything looks purchased at once and looks like a commercial space instead of residential. It can be minimalist, contemporary, transitional, Scandinavian, etc. It doesn't matter. It just doesn't look like people really live there and there is a lot of editing going on as well. This Chateau could have easily ended up in the wrong hands and looking very hotel boutique and it would have been a shame. Instead it is a beautiful gracious home to incredibly interesting people with incredible stories to tell through their home and life. God bless them. I sure enjoyed the visit.

🥰I agree!! A French boutique hotel which is “Californiaized” (my word😜) defeats the purpose of traveling all the way to France.
💕I could spend hours in those rooms just drinking up the ambiance🥰 What a treat listening to George’s knowledge of his passion!💕

Thank you Stephanie and Philip for this wonderful tour. I don't know what "perfection" is for décor, but this place is a show stopper for sure. The vestibule is gorgeous and worth seeing the chateau all on its own. These are people of aesthetic passion (after my very own heart), such joie de vivre in abundance. What inspiration.

I'm so sick of seeing actors/actresses' homes that are huge and bland. No decorating, just large rooms. This chateau is absolutely gorgeous! The colors, the architecture, antiques, etc. This is what I call excellent taste, and it's obvious a lot of effort was put into the home. What a warm and inviting space!

Enjoyed the previous two videos with Stephanie, Marie and Philip as well as Johnnie and his partner. Loved the gardens. Look forward to seeing more 9f the decor. We've had a rolling blackout again in South Africa and it's freezing cold. Hoping the electricity will be on by that time.

It’s a beautifully restored chateau, but the sound is very difficult to understand the dialogue. I’ve noticed the poor sound on several videos. Would it be possible to add closed captions?

    • @marielcalder103

I think that the sound may be getting 'swallowed up' in the large rooms.

Totally agree. The sound on various vlogs are very poor. They do eventually turn on the captions but I rather a clear sound. When it’s organized, mics for everyone ?

In France, it’s not about the size of the building, but the function it had in the past! Like Le Fleur, this newer building was built on the foundations/grounds of a building that was classified as a château. Therefore, they’re still considered châteaux ❤️
