    From one engineer to another, i would recommend creating a fitting that allows you to screw a catch can directly to the bottom of the support bracket. This eliminates hoses all together, there's already space in that area for a catch can as many people mount the DK directly below the air cleaner anyway.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад +5

      Yes, that would be nice, but the top of the catch-can would hit the air cleaner backplate.

It’s not only creative but lucrative and don’t let some corporate hack steal your hard work, thoughtful design, and solution for the HD engines!!

      Thanks Jack. We do have a Patent Pending on it.
      UNFORTUNATELY it does not matter to the Chinese. We have products with Patents issued and they not only knock off our patented designs, they actually use photos of our parts, installed on our bikes and our Customers bikes to sell their knock-offs. Amazon and ebay do not help by giving them a platform to sell stolen designs on.

      Yeah, we have gotten knocks offs taken off of Amazon and ebay (long PITA process). Then, after they are gone, 5 more new thieves pop up.
      As you noted, buying USA made is the key, but there are far too many folks that buy the cheapest thing they can, with little regard for where or how it is made.
      Then, many of them complain about poor quality, poor instructions, bad fitment, etc.

  • @Mike-in-PI

    Looks pretty simple to change back and forth (external versus internal venting). Of course, I'm sure that nobody would ever consider venting internally one day a year just to pass an annual EPA inspection (then vent externally the other 364 days) 🤣😂. Looks like a real winner DK!!

    I just installed the Transformer tonight along with an Outlaw air cleaner (578). The transformer was an easy install and hats off to DK for making this tidy. I would suggest some additional attention to deburring the plate surface, but a little time with emery cloth and all was good. I think the o-rings and grooves could be thicker as well, but as long as they seal, right? Curious as to why the light aluminum breather bolts? They were well made, but I did worry about torque on installation, thinking about the heat cycles. The only thing I'm not happy with is the air cleaner fit. I've spent a lot of time trying to get good alignment, and there's only the outside flat plate (cover) applying center pressure to seal the filter...a little worried about leaks.
    All in all, excellent product, and we'll see after some miles!

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      Great to hear you are liking the Transformer. Thank you for the reveiw.
      On the 587, if it is overtightened it will make the filter element go out of round. There is a video link below on the 587 install, and starting around the 7 minute mark we go over the installation of the cover.
      If it is snugged down there is no worry about leaks. I have run various 587's on my bikes for well over 100k miles and never had an issue. This is because of the unique mating surfaces that K&N uses on either side of the filter element. It seals well with minimal pressure.
      As noted in the video below, if you want to be extra cautious, use a little oil on the surfaces, that is double protection.

      Everything good with the transformer, and again, great job!

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  8 месяцев назад

      There are smaller passageways within the head breather system that the oil carry over and crankcase gasses pass thru prior to reaching the Transformer™. Clearing the passageways within the Transformer™ assembly simply isn't required BUT with that said, it wouldn't hurt to do it yearly.
      I have had mine installed for a few years and have never cleaned it and it is still running like new.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад +5

      To do what it does, the only difference in making a non-transforming one would be to not include the plug or the two little rubber pieces, and not cut about 2" of channels. Everything else is still needed to give it the extremely discrete hose barb down at the bottom.
      YES, it is already an issue in several countries that we ship to. Quite a few countries in Europe have annual emission inspections. PLUS, it is only a matter of time before Cali and some other USA States start doing inspections.

    How about a catch can that has a second port to go back to the breather allowing the oil to stay in the can and the air to return to the throttle body giving the catch can a negative pressure to assist flow?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  8 месяцев назад

      With a free flowing air cleaner there is no need for the hot, oily, oxygen depleted air to be filtered and re-routed back to the throttle body. The air would still be warm (performance robber) and it would still be oxygen depleted (another performance robber)

    This looks like a great idea. Just out of curiosity, what would it take to have the option of venting it out the top of the back plate. I would prefer to run a hose along the frame under the tank so I can mount a catch can somewhere behind the engine. Just a thought

      That is very similar routing that I did on my Softail, but I routed it up under the tank, down the downtube and below the right side floorboard. You can see photos of the hose routing from the bottom of the Transformer™ at the links below.

      Not sure what year model bike you have or which stock Air Cleaner came on your bike, but The Transformer works with a flat back plate where the back plate and support bracket are separate.

    Makes total sense for the twin cams, or any bike that is unable to vent directly through the trans top cover. In my opinion, venting the trans top cover on the M8’s is so much cheaper and a much cleaner solution…. Trask checkm8 (or simply diy) then I don’t need to mess with the stock breathers whatsoever… problem solved.

    • @DKCustomProducts

      Thank you for your comment.
      That vent will route some of the oil, but not all of it, away from the air cleaner. It is still feed hot & oxygen depleted air into the air cleaner.
      There are 3 measurable benefits to a True External Breather System
      1. NO oil into intake to gum up sensors and build carbon deposits
      2. NO hot air into intake which robs power. The colder the air charge the better. See video below
      3. NO Oxygen depleted air into the intake. The only reason to put air into the intake is for the oxygen. Putting oxygen depleted air in is a total waste and robs power.
      Vents that relieve pressure, like you mentioned, are a band aid that only partially address the problem.

      That the Trask vent only routes some of the oil to the transmission? (right on their website they say it reduces oil, they know better than to claim that it eliminates the oil, because, by design, it cannot)
      All of our External Breather Systems 100% eliminate Hot, Oily, Oxygen Depleted air...not just reduce some of it.

      @@DKCustomProducts in all honesty I’m not disagreeing with any of it, what I am disagreeing about if I’m disagreeing about anything is the fact that after I did my trans top cover mod, it reduced all oil down to roughly 1% of what it used to be. Which in my opinion is a absolute success. It’s not worth it in my view to spend another 200 or more dollars trying to take care of that one percent. Hope that makes sense.

      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      @@jeffreyengle2762 Understood.
      That is great that you got 99% of the oil to stop migrating to your intake. It would be good if everyone was that fortunate.
      Some spit more than others.
      Have you seen our balloon test? Here is a link to it. ruclips.net/video/Kio4DEuOpCU/видео.html
      The red M8 around the middle of the video puts out a lot of hot oxygen depleted air, but virtually no oil. So he is running an EBS to stop the hot oxygen depleted air. Many are not so lucky on the oil migration.
      I would not spend any $ to get the last 1% of the oil either.
      I wonder how much hot oxygen depleted air you are still getting though. That is as much a power robber (actually more) than the oil. Oil is more about sensors gumming up and build up on the pistons resulting in tune instability.
      Here is a chart showing how much flows-
      www.dkcustomproducts.com/breather-system-flow-testing-results-video.htm
      We have several tests scheduled to measure on a variety of bikes...but every bike is a little different, so if you ever do a test on yours, I would be interested in the results.

    Those grooves in the plate look shallow. Does the transformer vent the same or more crankcase pressure as the factory setup?
    What about those guys building higher horsepower, higher compression motors? Does the transformer have the capability to vent the extra crankcase pressure those motors are making?
    Just curious if any testing has been done on that

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад +1

      Good questions.
      The channels are larger than the some of the channels inside the engine. So they will never be a choke point.
      Here are the channel dimensions.
      to center is .125" wide x .055" deep.
      to bottom is .07" wide x .1" deep.
      The largest engine we have tested on is a 124 with high compression, and there were no issues.
      While we have not tested the 131, inside the engine there are oil passageways that are smaller than in the Transformer™, so there will be no restriction.

    How about designing a metal tube that screws into the bottom of the plate that will hang down and allow the catch can to be fastened to it without a rubber hose?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      That may barely work (if we redesign the catch-can) on a Sportster and Twin Cam. There is Not enough room on a M8 between the bottom of the Transformer™ and the top of the cam chest. Here are a couple of photos of it on an M8 that we just installed yesterday.

      @@DKCustomProducts okay then... move the solid mount to either side... you could also design a clamp for the catch can that would bolt to a stationary position on the bike. I am not a fan of hose hanging down or to the side of the air cleaner. in addition, I am not a fan of the hose being used to support the weight of the can. just my two cents.

    What's the availability for a 64mm throttle body?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      We are not making any specifically for a 64mm throttle body. However, this one will work with the 64mm Throttle Body on a TWIN CAM. It will NOT work with the M8 64mm.
      On the Twin Cam the inlet on the Transformer™ is a little bit smaller in diameter, this will give an Increase in Torque between 2400 and 4200 RPM, and it will be a bit of a Decrease in HP above 4200 RPM. So it depends on how you ride, if you want low end power or top RPM power.

    Hello, Bought a few products from you guys. So I have a question. I have the M8 Outlaw 587 cleaner on my bike. Is there any way to get a black air filter instead of a red one? I watched the above video above and see a black filter. I really want that on mine. Thanks again.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      You can clean your filter element...it will be close to white after that. Then either get some filter oil that is black, or you can add some black dye to the red K&N filter oil to darken it up. 👍

    • @Poopaw34

    • @DKCustomProducts

      @@Poopaw34 No, the material is a cotton gauze and is naturally a white tan color. Any black ones you see are either dirty, or have had a black oil applied to them
      The filter on your 587 is only reddish because the oil used has a red dye in it.
