Better performance, but I also noticed extra mpg. It's a half mile a gallon better since the EBS. Have to love a better running bike

    Wish I bought mine sooner. Have 14,500 miles on my Street Glide with blow by constantly getting on my engine and bags. When I changed to DKCustom EBS it didn’t fit my current filter system so I bought one of theirs too. Couldn’t be happier. You should’ve seen the oil that drained out of my old filter. Now the bike responds faster, no hesitation and feels like there’s more power.

      Vented dipsticks will reduce the amount of hot, oily, oxygen depleted air going into your intake, that is why it performs better.
      There is still a disconcerting amount of that crap going into your combustions chambers, so when/if you do an External Breather System it will run even better...last longer too.

    I’m so glad I found you guys before I wasted my money on a stage 1 from someone else! I was going to buy a breather with no EBS, a fancy expensive tuner, and pipes all knowing I wasn’t going to get much if any performance gains! Instead I got the 587 breather, black anodized breather bolts, and the vied setup for the sportster with pipes soon to follow. But so far I’m extremely, EXTREMELY, pleased with the performance gains from just what I’ve installed so far! The breather, the EBS, and the vied, have made a very noticeable difference in the way my little 883 runs and sounds. I actually saved enough money in the difference between the vied and a tuner to pay for pipes! A tuner is $350-$500 the vied $139!!! I honestly don’t know why I haven’t got the pipes yet? I’m just enjoying the bike so much more I haven’t thought too much about it. Thank you DK!!

    So I wanted to coment on my first ride with this breather kit. I was supposed to ride the other day but had battery issues. I have a 17 Slim S and I installed the catch can version of this breather kit. I will leave a review on your site too Kevin. The black can with the black braided hose is very stealthy and just plain sick looking. My S is the black version. So today I got to go for a ride and I know butt dynos are only worth the opinion of the owner of said Butt. Lol ........But........... DAYUM!!!!!! She really pulls much harder and the rpms seem to climb faster too. It's even MORE torqy feeling. Lol Love it. Also I installed just this morning, the coil relocation kit. Install was easy and the directions were great. Pulling the stock coil bracket at the oil tank takes some patience and careful maneuvering but its not hard. Just follow the directions carefully. I am COMPLETELY satisfied with these two mods. The extra cooling to the rear cylinder is nice. Although I cant be sure what my engine temp was before; now its around 220* I believe I had seen 230* on a ride before but can not be sure. I'm going to log it a few rides to get an average. Love the look of seeing the back of the motor. Be mindful of routing the wiring and don't zip tie anything home until you fully check that everything is free from obstruction. I just Love the look of the coils new home. I also did the horn relocation kit too. That was super easy to install. Looks good where its mounted. Thank you DK for 3 awesome products.

    I know, that you know, that oxygen itself does not burn, it promotes combustion. But we know what you mean.
    PS, I installed the DK catch can system and found that when I wash my bike I need to empty the catch can afterwards. Alot of water gets in through the vents on top.
    A small price to pay for a great and beneficial system and the can needs to be emptied regularly anyway.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад

      Yes, very true what you said. Oxygen is not flammable, but it does intensify the combustion process and can cause fire to burn hotter and faster, which makes more power. Thanks!
      Trick I use when washing the bike and the catch can is in a place where it catches a lot of water (I do the same thing with my Power Vision mounted on my bars), get a small ziplock bag & a rubber band. Put it over the catch can, closing up the opening on top with a rubber band.

    Should i worry about watter getting in the vent holes of the catch can while washing or just sitting out in the rain ,will it fill up and that would make what ya dump out look milky , and give a false reading as to whats aucatly coming out of the breather tubes ? , looks nice though , thanx .

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад +1

      No reason to worry about water getting in the vent holes, it will not harm anything. However, it will take up space in the catch-can, making it so you will want to empty it more often...also, as you mention, it will take away from giving you a clear picture of what is coming out of the engine.
      I normally install the catch-can where it is not in direct shot of rain hitting the top of it....like under the air cleaner, under a footboard, behind the cowbell horn, or near the dip stick. Then if I am going to wash the bike, at the same time I put a zip lock bag around my power vision I will also put one around the catch-can (if I have not removed the catch-can bottom to dump it as part of the cleaning process).

      @DKCustomProducts  4 года назад +1

      If you will look at the photo's in the report listed below, or you can see one in the video at the 2:46 minute mark, we do not want that nasty mix contaminating the oil. Beside that primary reason, there is no performance benefit to doing so, and it would cost more. www.dkcustomproducts.com/overview-of-external-breather-systems-ebs.htm

    The cooler the air, the more dense it is. Hence, cooler air gives you more of it per intake stroke.

  • @knothole5
    @knothole5 2 года назад +1

    So what about the vacuum created by the intake?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 года назад +1

      Pretty sure that theory of vacuum from the intake, sucking on those little hoses, going thru the heads, up thru the rocker covers, down thru the pushrod tubes and into the crank, is close to non-existent. Lots of folks talking about it...no one has published any data showing that it actually occurs.
      Like anything else, suction from the intake will take the path of least resistance, and making it past the umbrella valves in the rocker boxes (which the whole purpose/design is to only allow flow one way....toward the intake and away from the crankcase) is just not going to happen. The path of least resistance will be thru the filter element.
      What is shown to be true is that engines run stronger, cleaner, better MPG with External Breather Systems.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад

      True that! More oxygen, the better the fuel burns, less oxygen worse the fuel burns. Everything else functioning well (fuel & ignition) the more oxygen in the air in the combustion chamber, the more power. 👍

    What about smoke coming out of your breather system?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  4 года назад

      Water vapor or oil vapor coming out of your breather is normal. That is what it is there for. Any other "smoke" coming out is indicative of a problem with the piston rings not sealing well and gasses from the combustion chamber leaking past the rings into the bottom end of the engine (which is where the normal oil mist/vapor comes from).

    Which of your filter systems/breather would you recommend for a 2012 Seventy-Two? If you have just the breather bolts won't that bad oily exhaust just get sucked up by the air cleaner since they are located right next to each other?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  4 года назад +1

      I like the Premium Discrete with a filter or with a catch-can. It does get the oxygen depleted and hot air away from the air cleaner. The oil is caught by the filter internal to the breather bolts....and when moving down the road the air pretty much dilutes the hot oxygen depleted air. So they are all the same in how they add power and longevity, it just comes down to a matter of which look you like best. One note, if you have a spitter (a bike that puts out a lot of oil) they can overwhelm the small filters in the breather bolts and end up with some oil on the side of the bike. That won't happed with the hose & filter or hose and catch-can. www.dkcustomproducts.com/breather-systems-c21.htm

    @NoXQc 3 года назад +1

    Hey guys ! Question regarding the external breathers. My father in law decided to sell me his Road king with his engine fully upgraded (above a stage IV) at this point. Bike, of course, was finely tuned on a dyno. I want to keep that bike for the longest time possible and wanted to put an external breather kit on it. Can that affect the tune or anything else in a certain manner ? I wouldn’t want to ruin all the money he invested in that bike

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад

      Adding an EBS will not hurt the bike, only help it. It does not require a new tune to be safe. Since there will be a higher concentration of oxygen, it might benefit (in terms of getting a little extra power) from tweaking the tune. However, it is likely that it will be imperceptible.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  4 года назад +3

      @DKCustomProducts  3 года назад +2

      @@snakeoil2182 The External Breather System vents the crank case pressure AND prevents any hot, oily, oxygen depleted air from going into you combustion chamber. So that is the only thing you should need. However, if you have a sumping issue and do not address it at its' root cause, the vented dipstick can help reduce the chance of sumping. The only other reasons to add a vented dipstick to an EBS are-
      1. You have a highly built engine and want to get the absolute most power out of it...theoretically it will allow the crank to spin more freely
      2. You have so much oil carryover (blow-by) that having both vents will give you two places for it to escape

This is a big subject, but in 2017 Harley and the EPA colluded in an illegal agreement that violates the Magnuson Moss Consumer Protection Act. The way around it is to remove the EBS if you ever have to take the bike in for warranty work, or to get a real extended warranty that does not put illegal limitations on your warranty. The company we use for a "Real" warranty can be seen at this link- www.motorcycleagent.com/

      @@jameslaperouse3976 They are a publicly held company, and their first loyalty is to their shareholders to make money. With their new CEO that is even more the case...he is all about profitability.
      Of course, for a company to be profitable, long term, they need to take care of their Customers.
      Unfortunately the stock market does not seem to care about long term...much more short term profits is what they reward the most.
      Hopefully HD will find a good middle ground.

    Am shocked by the incompetance of most harley owners, the reason more do not have these kits is they are incapable of fitting a DIY kit. HD dealers don't fit them or advise on them, unless you know what your talking about you can't get a bike workshop to fit them either. The UK is mostly clueless except for the Buell ownership community as these products are an essential up grade. People dont know, dont want to know, will not accept that what harley makes is less than perfect.

      Yes, the misinformation spread by dealerships is a big part of the new riders not knowing the real deal about their Harley's.
      We do have a video that goes thru, step by step on how to install the DIY kits on OEM and other air cleaners...it can be seen at the link below.

      Thanks for watching! That system is pretty simple to vent externally assuming you are still running the Air cleaner that came on the bike originally. Either of the EBS found at this link would work for you www.dkcustomproducts.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=tc-brt The install would be very similar to what is explained in this video ruclips.net/video/5tTkzGol2G4/видео.html

    My question is Why does Harley continue to build them like this? Why don't they reroute the exhaust themselves instead of making us doing it!

    Is there Any issues or restrictions to the motor/heads ability to breathe at there best when using one of your single catch cans Tee’d for 2 separate heads? So basically no advantage/disadvantage to having 1 can for both heads vs 2 cans 1 per each head. Hope I’m not complicating this ha. Thanks

    • @DKCustomProducts

      There is no restriction in air flow using any of the DK External Breather Systems. The only reasons one would use two catch-cans is for looks or if the bike was a real spitter and one wanted to increase capacity. Here is a fun video demonstrating how much air flows thru the breathers- ruclips.net/video/Kio4DEuOpCU/видео.html
      And here is a link to the actual numbers/CFM flowing- www.dkcustomproducts.com/breather-system-flow-testing-results-video.htm

      @@louis_costa That is an urban myth. You can see in the video linked in this response that the breathers work fine at an idle and at lower RPM. Also, if you look at how the breather system is designed, there is no need for any help to equalize the pressure in the crankcase via the breathers with a vacuum. Check out this video for a fun visual- ruclips.net/video/Kio4DEuOpCU/видео.html

      Have a S&S stealth system on a twin cam 103. So it looks like I need a DIY. Do I need to use different breather bolts & do I need to block off the existing breather holes in the backing plate ? Thank you
