I followed this example "almost" exactly, the breather bolt seemed to lose so I tightened them up a little bit more without a Torq Rench. After the first ride one breather bolt broke. It can out with an easy out. I called and explained what happened and that it was my fault. I'm getting another breather bolt sent, thanks for all the tips, I will follow everyone from now on! 🙂

I absolutely love this product, I continue to have issues with the breather bolts breaking, I've called several times and each time received new bolts with no charge, not even a postage charge! Great customer support. The last time I received new and improved breather bolts, so I'm guessing that others have had similar issues. Can we if possible, get a couple made out of Stainless? The upgraded bolts just broke a couple days ago. I think this is the forth time replacing them. I still Love the product and don't want to change it back to stock. At 4:25 you show a polished catch can directly below the intake. That's how I did it on my '04 Fat Boy. And I believe it actually enhanced the look of my bike as well as being a conversion piece.
This is going to be the first thing I do to my Tri Glide after I move. Right now I have my plate full moving from Alaska to Oklahoma but once I'm settled on the other end I'm going to do some upgrades.
Just installed this on my 2021 FLTRK with the older style HD ventilator ac. Great design with “O-rings” at seepage points and IMO a much cleaner install than the previous model.
I think I've watched most of your videos on external breathers for the M8"s and decided to do one on my 21 trike. However I did purchase your tank lift kit and floor board extensions to combat the heat issue. So my question is some these guys not all are venting the the tanny cover and letting the breather tubes venting into the intake. Are there any advantages venting through the tanny cover vs external breather ? Now some have said they vent with both methods ? Just curious.... thanks for the videos and a ton of info !

Regarding EBS - Vented dipsticks and transmission cover vents do NOT take the place of external breather systems. There is still hot, oily, oxygen depleted air being fed into the intake. The folks that sell vented dipsticks and trans cover vents, have it right in their product description that they do not prevent all that crap from going into your intake. Here is a copy and paste from the Trask website- "This will reduce the oil exiting from the head breathers..." With an EBS there is NO hot, oily, oxygen depleted air going into the engine. With a dipstick or trans vent, even if there is no trace of oil in the intake, there is still hot, oxygen depleted air going into the combustion chambers, making the engine run hotter, and not as strong because of the lower oxygen content. IF you have an older M8, with the older oil pump and you are concerned about sumping...OR, IF you have a built engine with higher compression, then it may be beneficial to do an EBS And a vented dipstick or trans cover vent.
Installed the transformer on my 2015 Ultra. It didn’t go exactly as this video shows but I got it done with the help of some great customer support. I have yet to try it out on a long run so I can’t say if my problem is solved yet. Quick question, can I buy just a catch can? My 2003 FatBoy needs one.

The 828 will provide a bit more of a gain than the other two....probably not enough to show seat of the pants, but it does show up on the dyno. So it really comes down to which look you like. I do own a 2016 Softail Slim S, I understand it is a Screamin Eagle engine and just want to make sure that what you said about Screamin Eagle is true, did you mean it will not fit on a Screamin Eagle motor or if the bike was equipped with a Screamin Eagle air cleaner? Excuse my ignorance but I’m trying to stop any future problems due to carbon buildup! If this assembly does not fit my bike, will there be a future fix for it? It will fit a Screamin Eagle engine fine. It is the SE Air Cleaner that it is not compatible with. I got my EBS and getting ready to install it. After reading a comment about how one of the breather bolts broke after the first ride got me a little concerned. I will and do follow instructions but those bolts sound a little fragile. Why aren't they made of steel?
Thank you for your business, I believe you are going to be well pleased with it. They are not steel because if one does not over torque them, there is no issue. They take very little tightening, only enough for the o-rings to seal. Finger tight, and then 1/8th of a turn more. See instructions excerpt below. They are not steel for several reasons: The finish would not match. The price would need to be higher. There is no need, they are strong enough to withstand twice the recommended tightening before breaking. If one wants to paint or anodize the unit, it is more difficult with different metals. Now, making sure that everything is lined up, tighten both of the Transformer™ breather bolts to 120-144 inch lbs (not ft. lbs). Since most garages don’t have an accurate inch lb torque wrench. Put them in finger tight, as tight as you can get them with your fingers, then use an open end wrench to turn them another ⅛ of a turn. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! If they are overtightened, it is possible that they will break off when installing or riding down the road, leaving just the threads in the head.

An XiED or ViED (seen at the link below) is highly recommended if you go to a free flowing air cleaner. Agreed. all Sportys, even bone stock, will get rid of the low speed hesitation, and have more power with a tuner or an IED product. They are just a bit too lean from the factory.

I have not personally. However, we have seen that on more than a few bikes. Usually it is because of one of the following: 1. Catch-Can is full of oil and/or water and needs to be emptied out 2. Oil tank on Harley is over-filled and is feeding too much thru the External Breather System. See video on that here- ruclips.net/video/gJ0vYAitUqU/видео.html 3. It is hot out and the oil being run is too light a viscosity...see manual for correct viscosity for ambient temps. (info is also in video linked above) 4. I do have the Arlen Ness Method Air System and according to a video it has nipples from the internal oil routing that pushes the crank-venting not directly into the throttle body. Any kit to continue and re-routing to outside?
Yes I have m-8 2022 air clean it has fitting with hoses but they flow into the I take can I just reroute the hose to go external and install a catch can or breather will that work . Oh it’s on freewheeler 114. What do you think is better way to look and fix this to get a better cleaner air?
Yes, re-routing the existing hoses into a catch-can or filter is what many folks do..and it is just as effective at stopping that hot, oily, oxygen depleted air from going into the combustion chambers. curious, I have a 1997 bad boy with the rubber boot that fits over top of the breather bolt. How, in your design, does the exhaust gases get through that bolt into what you call a transformer? Can you show those details?
I don't know what a 1997 bad boy is. Maybe a Fat Boy? In any case, only make the Transformer™ for Sporty Evolutions, Twin Cams and M8's. So if you have an Evo, unfortunately we do not have a Transformer that will fit it. From the photos I've seen of the Vity's design velocity stack air cleaner, the only way the Transformer will fit is if the ears of the A/C are cut off. Hopefully your bike is not running that hot. Here is a video on optimum temperatures for the different engines- ruclips.net/video/rWOdQOtDv6A/видео.html That said, teflon paste is what HD uses at the factory. We have been using teflon tape (less messy than the paste) for well over a decade, and just threading it in and out "deteriorates" it-distorts it, but it is still there, it does not burn off, so it still does double duty of sealing the threads to keep oil from traveling down them, and also acts as a locker to keep them from backing out.
The Transformer will not fit the larger 58mm TB due to clearance reasons however this does not exclude your application from other External Breather options. If you are using one of our air cleaners, the Premium Hose style EBS works very well. If you wish to vent an aftermarket air cleaner externally, please send a photo, link, or part number of your air cleaner to support@dkcustomproducts.com

So i currently have the DK External Breather System/DK 587 air cleaner. So would I just need to purchase the Transformer plate if I wanted this? What is the difference between this and what you have offered before? Is it worth the upgrade? Thanks.

For functionality the only thing you gain with the Transformer is the ability to make the bike EPA compliant. Other than that it is about a more sanitary look.
If your backplate is flat, then this will work with it. i had to remove material from my hd cv carb before the transformer would mount flush..... Ever seen this issues? I took pics and emailed the company with no response.

The 587, 606, and 828 will all fit your Limited and provide a nice improvement. The 828 will provide a bit more of a gain than the other two....probably not enough to show seat of the pants, but it does show up on the dyno.
So it really comes down to which look you like.

I do own a 2016 Softail Slim S, I understand it is a Screamin Eagle engine and just want to make sure that what you said about Screamin Eagle is true, did you mean it will not fit on a Screamin Eagle motor or if the bike was equipped with a Screamin Eagle air cleaner? Excuse my ignorance but I’m trying to stop any future problems due to carbon buildup! If this assembly does not fit my bike, will there be a future fix for it? Any tips for people like me with non-fitment? Thanks!
It will fit a Screamin Eagle engine fine. It is the SE Air Cleaner that it is not compatible with. Any of the Outlaw air cleaners at the following link will work well with your SE engine and with the Transformer.

Are you no longer using the gasket with the adhesive? Mine did not appear to have an adhesive side. Almost wrecked it trying to get that off lol
I believe that the M8 is the only gasket that doesn't have a sticky side. I will look at them when I get back to work on Monday and let you know for sure. Sorry for any inconvenience!

I got my EBS and getting ready to install it. After reading a comment about how one of the breather bolts broke after the first ride got me a little concerned. I will and do follow instructions but those bolts sound a little fragile. Why aren't they made of steel?
Thank you for your business, I believe you are going to be well pleased with it.
They are not steel because if one does not over torque them, there is no issue. They take very little tightening, only enough for the o-rings to seal. Finger tight, and then 1/8th of a turn more. See instructions excerpt below.
They are not steel for several reasons:
The finish would not match.
The price would need to be higher.
There is no need, they are strong enough to withstand twice the recommended tightening before breaking.
If one wants to paint or anodize the unit, it is more difficult with different metals.
Now, making sure that everything is lined up, tighten both of the Transformer™ breather bolts to
120-144 inch lbs (not ft. lbs). Since most garages don’t have an accurate inch lb torque
wrench. Put them in finger tight, as tight as you can get them with your fingers, then use an
open end wrench to turn them another ⅛ of a turn. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN! If they are
overtightened, it is possible that they will break off when installing or riding down the road,
leaving just the threads in the head.

If I recall, you have a Sportster. Sportys run a little lean from the factory. An XiED or ViED (seen at the link below) is highly recommended if you go to a free flowing air cleaner.
A tuner will work also, but is not needed if you are just staying with a free flowing air cleaner and open exhaust.

Agreed. all Sportys, even bone stock, will get rid of the low speed hesitation, and have more power with a tuner or an IED product. They are just a bit too lean from the factory.

Have you experienced any oil misting residue spraying from the catch can and onto the motor nose-cone etc?
I have not personally. However, we have seen that on more than a few bikes. Usually it is because of one of the following:
1. Catch-Can is full of oil and/or water and needs to be emptied out
2. Oil tank on Harley is over-filled and is feeding too much thru the External Breather System. See video on that here- ruclips.net/video/gJ0vYAitUqU/видео.html
3. It is hot out and the oil being run is too light a viscosity...see manual for correct viscosity for ambient temps. (info is also in video linked above)
4. Other, more serious issues, that are listed in the video linked above.

I do have the Arlen Ness Method Air System and according to a video it has nipples from the internal oil routing that pushes the crank-venting not directly into the throttle body. Any kit to continue and re-routing to outside?

Yes I have m-8 2022 air clean it has fitting with hoses but they flow into the I take can I just reroute the hose to go external and install a catch can or breather will that work . Oh it’s on freewheeler 114. What do you think is better way to look and fix this to get a better cleaner air?

curious, I have a 1997 bad boy with the rubber boot that fits over top of the breather bolt. How, in your design, does the exhaust gases get through that bolt into what you call a transformer? Can you show those details?
I don't know what a 1997 bad boy is. Maybe a Fat Boy?
In any case, only make the Transformer™ for Sporty Evolutions, Twin Cams and M8's. So if you have an Evo, unfortunately we do not have a Transformer that will fit it.

From the photos I've seen of the Vity's design velocity stack air cleaner, the only way the Transformer will fit is if the ears of the A/C are cut off.

It is not. Even with a 131, the best torque is produced by this diameter, even if it is stepping down from a larger throttle body.

How hot do those breather bolts get? Teflon tape starts to deteriorate at 390'ish degrees

That said, teflon paste is what HD uses at the factory.
We have been using teflon tape (less messy than the paste) for well over a decade, and just threading it in and out "deteriorates" it-distorts it, but it is still there, it does not burn off, so it still does double duty of sealing the threads to keep oil from traveling down them, and also acts as a locker to keep them from backing out.

The Transformer does the same thing as the External Breather you have with your 587...it just may look a little nicer/cleaner.
For functionality the only thing you gain with the Transformer is the ability to make the bike EPA compliant. Other than that it is about a more sanitary look.

i had to remove material from my hd cv carb before the transformer would mount flush..... Ever seen this issues? I took pics and emailed the company with no response.
