    During over 30 years of riding I hated every second of wearing a helmet until I bit the bullet and invested in a properly sized Aria Helmet. What a difference in comfort and surprisingly enough the aerodynamics of the helmet keep your head still in messy air flow meaning far less fatigue after a long ride. Amazing. Cheers.

    I know it sounds silly but the number one thing to get is a "Motorcycle License" and insurance. I know a guy that has a bike but does not have a license, this could also mean that he does not have insurance as well. This could be devastating in the event of an accident. Suspension: Legend front and back, they turned my bike into a new bike.

    Regarding the Helmet topic, I totally agree that you get what you pay for. I went from a $200 HJC to a $700 Shoei and it not only feels better but I can actually SEE better! It's like when you get a new pair of glasses! (Glasses wearers will understand)

    On all of my newer Harleys = 1988 and up to my 2017 M8, I have always changed Airfilter, Exhaust, Ignition system, Carburator/Tuner, Cams and Push Rods, various Engine vents, Ignition Cables, Ignition Coil, Spark-plugs, switched to Full Synthetic Oil and an Oil-cooler etc. When you are on your 28’th Harley you automatically know what you are gonna do to make them perform better,..and you can say it’s an addiction to always have a feeling what’s going on “between your legs” so to speak. Making routinely inspections: Belt-Chain, Brakes, Oil and Brake fluids, Tires + Pressure, Electrical = Battery, Switches and Bulbs…sounds like an endless procedure, but it’s not. Make it rule number one that timely care will pay out when you’re out there on the lonely roads, and if you bring a well equipped tool-bag that will be the guarantee that nothing will happen ☝🏻😉. Finally I can’t emphasize enough how absolutely crucial a proper “warm-up” of the Oil is,…when the Oil…the engines blood..is warm and “operational ready” so are all the metal components in the Motor and they are ready to let you rock’n roll 👌🏻☠️

    I have very recently come across your RUclips channel during my sleepless nights of "internet rabbit hole research". I have to say I am supremely impressed all around. I will get through all of your video library eventually, but I wanted to take a moment to say thank you. I purchased my first Harley a 2002 Ultra Classic with 78K miles, bone stock (except it had 12" bars and Screaming Eagle slip ons) in April. Since then I have taken it apart in various capacities half a dozen times to address a variety of mechanical and personal preference issues (such as LED light conversion, windshield, cup holders, phone holders, replacing all the nuts/bolts/washers back to factory vs the misc junk hardware drawer that was ravaged over the years, tour pack quick detach hardware, barnett throttle/idle/brake lines, new fuzes and relays, etc). This has caused me to research a plethora of things to get smart before just throwing money at stuff. A lot of what I consider common sense you cover well in this video. Aside from that, you have clarified many questions on an ever growing list of "what is best for me/my bike". As you know, there are literally millions of products and millions of opinions about what is "best" and there is not necessarily a one size fits all right answer. What you two provide is a general what things need to be addressed to get a bike healthy and operating as it was intended to baseline. Thank you for that and I will be sending my business your way soon for a tuner and your Outlaw Air Cleaner systems along with crank breathing/catch can to start.

    I hope you get this message, possibly, if you can generate an upgrade list of what actually to get first, I know there’s a vast majority of components and systems for the exhaust for comfort, etc. the breather system. But if you all could generate a list of what actually to get first in some type of order, and then, basically it would become a wish list for all riders to enjoy. Thank you for all that you all do, and all your products, will be a lifetime customer for sure! Keep up the Awesome Newark.

    Great advice guys. I have implemented all that you have covered( I have your 828 breather with Transformer back plate) including upgrading my helmet twice this summer and I could not believe the difference between a $600 helmet and an $800 helmet. The $600 wasn't terrible until I put on the $800!! Myself being a taller rider I also recommend an extended reach rear brake pedal. The pedal I got not only moves the pedal forward and down away from your foot but also outward so floorboard spacers came with the kit. I went with the Soft Brake brand and they are super helpful in guiding you to the correct one based on your inseam and type of bike. I want to give a shout out to my friends Jeff and Christi at C2Custom Cycle in Logan Ohio. They installed my Rinehart slimline duels/4in DBX mufflers coupled with the DK Customs 828 breather/transformer and a tune from Techno Research and the performance difference is amazing!! Every gear is taller and the bike no longer falls flat on its face at 4500 RPM. I love your content guys...Thanks!!

    I ordered my 2015 Ultra while I was overseas. When it came time to pick it up I had a list of things I wanted done first while it was still at the dealer. I wanted the bike to breath better so I upgraded the air intake and exhaust, I wanted to be seen better so I had everything changed to LEDs, and I wanted it to ride better so I upgraded the suspension. The one thing I didn’t do that I wish I had was raise the handlebars 2”. Great recommendations from you all and I agree 100%.

    I have upgraded to DK external breather and air cleaner systems trying to get those ridiculous temps down thanks for helping with that. I up graded to a new full face helmet when I totaled a big cruiser in ‘ 19 after a faulty drive belt install caused my back wheel to lock up. My gear totally saved my life. The full face I had on was completely demolished and still I was unconscious at the scene with a TBI. At 70, every major joint has been replaced and I have upgraded to 12 in. apes to relieve some shoulder pain. I now ride a 2015 ultra limited that I’m thinking of upgrading suspension. Looking to not feel like I’ve been dragged behind a truck when I roll into the drive after a 350 mile day ride. Some days the 20 ft. walk from the garage to the back door seems daunting. Suggestions?

    Another enjoyable video guys - thank you! Since watching your channel, I have upgraded a number of items to make the bike more comfortable and usable. My top changes were your 14” rear shocks with lift plates (even my good wife commented on the difference!), a Jims ForceFlow fan, a taller screen (the standard was absolutely appalling), a heated seat from the Harley catalogue, Harley heated grips, your rear footrest adjustable mounting plates and cooling wings and a Stage 1. Plans now include an oil cooler and relocation kit from your catalogue, possibly some Thunder Torque inserts, a front suspension upgrade and a Rekluse Auto Cutch. Dealerships absolutely bend you over for handlebar swaps that require cable and wire extensions. Most bikes, it shouldn't take more than 2 hours max to swap them out, swap cables, lines and extend wires; but a dealer will never do it faster than 4 hours, and you're gonna pay for it lol

    I came across your channel here on Utube!!! Have a 88 FXRS and a 15 Limited, both have had quite a bit of work done to them for performance/reliability. I bought the 15 new so all modifications done I've either did myself or paid a trusted Custom Bike Shop to do. Have been wanting a blow-by bypass system but all decent ones i have seen were crazy prized till i seen yours. I have minimal blow-by so am going to do the bolt/filter system 1st and should be fine. After some more watching of your mods videos. 16:25 I think I'll get the wind deflectors and 1.5"F & 1/2"R tank raise also. Eventually I will get the oil relocate/cooler system. With the mods I've done previously full exhaust S&S,cammed,dropped a tooth on drive gear, adj. push rods,Hyd lifters,S.E. Air Box with K&N filter,HD Clutch,and tuner. Oh and believe it or not my crank runout was within specs so didn't have to put a different oil pump in. My Mechanic said it was the 1st bike out of 25 or so that had made tolerances. But today it was 76° here in Iowa and my oil temp on hiway speed of 60mph for 40 miles was 238°. Thats on fresh oil change full synthetic and Lucas plus 8oz of Motorkote oil additive. After your mods and eventual oil cooler/relocate hopefully be around 210° average. Great products and tutorial videos,glad I found you!!! THANK YOU Brother's and Ride but safe!!! Curt L.

    The first performance upgrade I need is mirrors that I can see out of. Why do all the mirrors I see only come out nearly as far as the end of the handlebar? I never liked the idea of lane splitting, and why do they make the outside part of the mirrors so narrow? OK, I guess I can understand that people might not like round mirrors, but shouldn't the largest part of the mirror go to the outside?
    I had a Sportster back in '79 that had rectangle style of mirrors and as far as I can recall, I knew what was behind me, at least better than what I have now on my '03 Sportster I just bought. If I can't see very well from a mirror, I suppose I will tend to get into a lazy habit of not looking in it very often. A mirror that works well is one that will get used, is my opinion on that.

I always wear a helmet and I wear leathers when it is cool enough for safety and warmth. My plan is to always have my bike serviced by a certified Harley-Davidson tech so a Service Manual won’t be necessary even though I currently have one for my 2002 Softail. I don't wear a helmet because it is fashionable. I wear one because cold air hurts. Bugs hurt. Dirt gets in your eyes. Rocks pop up into your face. It's hard to breathe at 80 mph. Rain hurts. I mean, why wouldn't you just protect your face and head? Sure, the difference a helmet makes in a crash might just be between an open casket and closed casket funeral, but I wear one every time I ride because of all those other reasons. I especially do since I caught a lug nut right in the forehead of my helmet about 15 years ago. I'll never ride without one after that.

      If the OEM seat is not comfortable, I use an airhawk and sheepskin, and I always use a backrest. I've found that this is the Most comfortable for me. However, everyone is different.

      Some folks are happy to leave their bikes stock, and they thoroughly enjoy them.
      Others of us like to personalize things, and/or make things better...whether it is our motorcycles or trucks, etc.
      It's sorta like folks that buy pick up trucks. Some are perfectly happy with the bed of the truck being OEM, others know that they are going to use the bed of the truck a lot and want a bed-liner. Of those that want a bed-liner, some get a plastic one, others want a spray in liner...some even put cargo trays in their truck beds.
      Some do their own maintenance on their trucks, others take their truck to the dealership for everything that they need/want done to it.
      No different with a motorcycle.

      Hi David, thanks for the comment and question. Good to hear that you are liking the videos. 👍
      Sounds like you have a good gameplan moving forward.
      You do not Need a tuner for the mods you have done and are planning on doing.
      However, it will run a bit better with a great tune.
      You can see this video on why you do not need a tune- ruclips.net/video/aWW-nt7-fzA/видео.html
      Also, here is a link to a written report with dyno charts. You can see from the 3rd chart in this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/milwaukee-eight-dyno-charts-other-interesting-info-dk-m8-rpt.htm
      That the increase in performance is relatively small compared to the increase by switching to a DK Custom HiFlow Air cleaner (with the OEM tune).
      The two options for a tuner are the FP4 and the Power Vision. You can see both at the link below. I prefer the Power Vision because it is more full featured and leaves all doors open for what I may want to do in the future. I also like to use it as a gauge cluster. I know you can do the gauge cluster with the FP4 and a smart phone, but I would rather not have my phone on my handlebars for that.
      www.dkcustomproducts.com/efi-tuners-c74.htm

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  2 месяца назад +1

      The OEM rear shocks on your 17 FLSTC are pretty good. Could they be better? Yes, however, they are not horrible like the OEM shock on the Sportys, Dynas, Baggers and Trikes.
      If, after you update your front suspension, you are not happy with the ride quality of your rear suspension, I would recommend adjusting them. Instructions for adjusting are in your manual, and there are many YT videos on it.
      I believe the probability that you will be happy with the properly adjust OEM rear shocks is high.

    Which modifications will void the Harley warranty? I have an extended warranty on my 2020 cvo tri-glide and would love to do a suspension and exhaust upgrade but concerned about voiding my warranty.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Год назад +1

      Modifications that can have an effect on warranty fall in to two categories:
      1. A non epa compliant tune
      2. Aftermarket parts that cause a problem with Harley parts. (example- 3rd party high lift cams that break a valve spring...the spring, plus any other damage should not, and would not be covered)

    Do you have a “shed” tour of your filming room?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Год назад

      Most of the filming we've done in the last year is in my bike room. There is not much to it. Shelves, tool wall, tool chest, work bench, air compressor, bike/trike lift, and barely enough room for 1 Trike and 2 bikes. In various videos, pretty much all there is to see has been shown.
      Sometime, early next year, we are going to move part of the bike room to a nicely finished container, and we will also have a dedicated area for filming. We'l def do a little walk around of it when it starts being used.

    I think the parts catalogue should have been included with the shop manual. They go hand in hand.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Год назад +2

      The P&A catalog changes every year as HD drops items and adds new items.
      The FSM is the same, as it lists every part that is OEM on the bike. It never changes for a particular year and model.

    I’ve been riding for 40 years…owned many brands as well. On most bikes I’ve left them as the manufacturer produced them. My Harleys I did some upgrades such as exhaust, tuning, tires, and minor bolt on component’s. I felt it was best not to mess with the motor, trans or suspension. I felt the manufacturer’s who designed and built the bike know their stuff better then I do. As a restorer of cars and motorcycles I know if I decide to modify anything I must modify everything so it works properly and isn’t a death trap, or prone to failure. My suggestion would be to do simple bolt on modifications and enjoy your ride. It can be a costly endeavor otherwise.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Год назад

      Exhaust and tuning are pretty significant changes to the "motor".
      It's different strokes for different folks.
      HD designers may or may not know their stuff, but one thing is sure, HD's have notoriously poor suspension. I agree with you that most of their engineers know about suspension, and know that what they put out is stinky. But the building of a Harley is more than just what the engineers say is good.
