100% agree. HUD or display in front of driver for speed, signal and/or warning lights and state of charger or distance of range left. Very basic and a small screen is all that is needed. At a minimum have a means to plug in a display to OBD diagnostic port for those features on an aftermarket screen.

@Volvo_Kristian It's only weird at the beginning because you're used to seeing that display. Pretty sure after a month or so, you don't even think about it anymore.
For the sake of safety, needing a month to adapt is a month too long. The driver should be able to see speed, gear, and charge without adjustment. I’ve driven in European and American cities in cars with GPS directions in front of the driver and only on the center screen. When navigating in tight circumstances with lots of traffic, a quick glance down is far faster than looking to the right. I’ve spent more than a month using each system.
I have to agree.. the sensor to check if the driver is awake or not, just like lane keeping stuff, is not needed or wanted. Statistically people falling asleep behind the wheel is negligible. Now, information as to how fast you are driving, what your remaining range is and warning lights.. that is essential! It could have even been fitted in the same space that the sensor is using. Especially in a car that accelerates this fast and in which you basically have no sound to clue you in as to how fast you are going, needs a dash display. During summer however, the car is basically going to be turned into your private oven (with or without a sunroof). So, what is the mileage that you'd have to trade in just to keep cool in the car?! If the roof had been fitted/ligned with solar panes to expand your range, that would have been a big plus. That would have been innovative. I mean, there even could have been some sort of automatic shielding for when the batteries are full or up to 80% capacity.
@@stormglass2882 not sure what actual purpose a sunroof offers, I've always liked them as a way of getting some natural light and fresh air into the cabin. But the downside is they are expensive if you need to take them as an optional extra
@@willielarsson9651 Yes, my point exactly. It's more of a preference thing and if you take it, you don't even care or consider the fact that it might make the car less fuel efficient. It used to cost more as it used to be an after-manufacturing process; sometimes even done at the dealer's shop as you might know. Nowadays, with modernized factories, I can imagine it can be a cost-saving feature since you're saving on materials and only building the roll cage of the car and glueing a glass (or plastic) sheet on top.
This car wasn’t made for traditional (old) folks. It was designed in mind for the environmentally conscious consumer. No display means better sustainability and lower cost for the budget minded. I personally only look at the display to see my car speed. The tablet is fine for that. It’s like looking at my radio controls. No problem with that so glancing to the tablet wouldn’t be a problem either. Also, in the future it’s all going to be auto pilot anyway so the display will be superfluous. One day we will look back and see how old school displays were. We just need to get used to the new way of thinking .
I absolutely agree with all three especially the speedometer and possibly the curtain. This is a huge deal breaker for me. I really hope Volvo adds the driver display or the HUD. That alone will prevent me from considering this but I love ex30 want to get this.
I agree about the head-up display. It can mitigate the problem with the front dash console information. I don't mind if the front console is gone because I am tall and often I can't see the speedometer because of the wheels' interference with my sight. Good comments though. I love your accent!
Three breaking points for me. The "steering square", the lack of HUD, and the lack of physical controls, all consolidated in the tablet. It's a massive shame, because it's truly a beautiful car.
Totally agree, it's a deal breaker for me. The XC 40 recharge isn't like that, but it's higher price and shorter range stops us from getting one. Really thought the 30 was going to be the one until I saw that one tacked on iPad.
The single screen is the only reason I ordered one. What the hell do you need to see. It don't make any diff. If you look 15 degrees to the right. Or down at a speedometer. Furthermore. The car can drive at set the speed by watching the signs. Love that my tesla don't have that extra display. I really had no use for it.
Only reason? Wow.. 🤣 Well well. Can't argue with that.. Enjoy your transportation unit.. I want to look at the speed.. For ME it makes a huge difference.. Yes all cars have adaptive cruise control, and some with speed sign adjustments as well.. But I love to drive a car myself, and also watch my speed from time to time 🤣 If I only should use Cruise Control I would rather use public transport.
@@volvo_kristian look at the road instead of the screen, a quick glance to right will give you all the info you need. It works without any problem on the world's best selling car. Love the clean minimalistic look of the dash on EX 30. 9 out 10 times I drive, I use the adaptive cruise.
@Frank Bjørnsten Works well on world's best selling car? 😂 Are that your argument? So you don't think that EV has other advantages/benefits? And that then are so big that they overweigh the disadvantages? Like easy charging, charging availability, efficient powertrain and more. It's a good EV, but it's not a good car... If you had driven your car more than you would know, but if you use ACC 9/10 times it explains our discussion 😂
I would have one ordered right now if it had a driver screen or at least a head up display. It's so sad. It would be the perfect car for me. Even if it only featured the speed. I like to know the speed at all times and it's important to have it in front of my eyes for security reasons. Then we have other car from the competitors that feature both things. Which means that a head up display is a must for the Volvo EX30, even if it's sold as an extra. Totally agree with Volvo_Kristian and many others that commented. Volvo will loose thousands of sales due to this.
Volvo and Polestar... NACS PLEASE!!! make the change now before shipping EX90, EX30 and Polestar 3 & 4... Less complicated than adapters and retrofit... Stay safe, Tim
They could provide both in the US. NACS is CCS with a different nozzle. Maybe there's enough space for both plugs. The rest of the world has charging standards (which is why Tesla supports CCS protocols), so the choice of connector is easier, and ultimately cheaper for consumers.
Thank you for your insight. I'm so excited for this car. But I disagree on one thing... I love the one display. I've driven a Tesla and moving my eyes (not my head) slightly to one side instead of down took 5 minutes to get used to. Love it! I'm anxious to find out when it's available in Canada!
Some questions I haven't seen answered anywhere yet: Any heat pump on any trims? What is the RWD/AWD turning radius? Is/will there be any V2L, V2H, V2G?
On the international site, I thought I saw a heat pump available only on the ultimate trim. I'm starting to see that the low advertised price is only for advertising purposes.
I couldn’t agree more with all 3 of your points! I was so excited about the EX30, especially in Cross Country trim. I was considering putting down a reservation, but couldn’t get past the ridiculous lack of either a driver’s screen or, at the very least, a HUD. I live in Phoenix, AZ, so the glass is a horrible option and I prefer a sunroof anyway. The lack of colors is really odd to me and while at least they have black, I’d prefer to get metallic graphite. So, no money from me, yet, especially with the new EVs coming, like the new Toyota bZ Compact SUV (or bZ3X, whatever they’ll call it), the Jeep Recon EV, the new stuff coming from Kia/Hyundai, or maybe even the new Chevy Equinox EV… Sure the EX30 will sell, but judging by the comments here, which probably echo others like us, I think they’re going to keep fellow enthusiasts from committing to a vehicle lacking in basics. Many don’t like the Tesla Model 3 or Y for the same reasons, so they may also loose out on loyalty as well. Dumb move, Volvo…
I absolutely agree. The placement of the speedometer is a deal breaker for me too! I can add one more thing to the hate list: the fact that the roof window does not open.
Thank you for your detailed perspective on the Volvo EX30. Something to consider. The Smart #1 (on the same Geely architecture as the EX30) is an interesting offer. Launch Edition - £39,450 1) Large panoramic roof with powered roof shade 2) Driver's instrument cluster + HUD as an option 3) Leather interior option 4) 11 colors to choose from 5) Landscape vs portrait info screen 10 kg in weight separates the two vehicles. 5* Crash rating, Vehicle has a center airbag
The single display could be OK if they implement a Saab-style dark screen mode. This would only show your speed, probably in the top driver's side corner, and remaining range below a certain percentage. That was a great feature for night driving, and it's easy to implement with OLED since there is no backlight.
@@volvo_kristian what are the other buttons above the windscreen? You used the 4-way flashers in another video, but it looked like there are other buttons there.
100% agree. Even though we have bought one. No sunshade here in Australia will be murder in the summer (I believe there is going to be one available though). And the no HUD is a real fail. Even basic speed L/R arrows on that little panel with the driver monitoring (where there is already power and electronics).
Agreed on the drivers display, that is pure stupidity and it sucks big time. I mean if it had head up display as standard it wouldn’t be much of an issue. I have driven “a car” with out that driver display and I hate that car as well for a number of reasons including the display 😊
Thank you for the videos on the EX30. Do you recall if the seating position offer memory for multiple drivers? Have they mentioned if the EX30 will offer one pedal driving?
Went to see the RHD car that is currently touring the UK. The Ultra model has electric seats and the position will apparently be saved to the profile/key card.
Yes, I think companies are now focusing on cost cutting and Customer has to suck it up. Good thing is we have many more EV hitting the market so we can choose. Great vid!
I like it very much everything is fine with the EX30 except only one thing makes me hesitate to buy it is that there is no driver information center display which is a bit sad and very disappointing! my final verdict is a big NO for me.
@@volvo_kristian If only Volvo integrate the same digital speedometer display as the EX90 in the EX30 it will change everything then I would definitely buy the EX30 .
If like me, you have to wear varifocal lenses in your glasses, it’s really not good to have to continually try to focus to the side. Even with the best quality lenses it can take a second to find your focus, then you can even feel for the controls with touch screen. For me this would make having no dials/buttons a deal breaker.
This vehicle is fantastic, I would certainly buy this over a Tesla or any other at this time. I understand a lot of people and reviewer's complain about no speedometer or HUD I get it, none of us like change. But it's not a deal breaker for me, I'm sure I will get used to it just like all the Tesla owner's have. When cellphones changed from push button to touch screen I wasn't to happy but know I adapted and love it. I have owned many vehicles and I can remember some that had the speedometer' view obsructed by the steering wheel and my hand or arm. I found it irritating because I always had to lower my head to see my speed. At least with this design nothing will ever get in the way, it's large black number's on a white background screen is perfectly clear. I suggest test drive it for a while and see if you can adjust to it.
The screen isn't a dealbreaker for me. I think you'd get used to it, and the speedometer numbers look big enough to be easily seen from the pics I've seen. Importantly I think putting it on all that screen knocks a significant amount of the cost of the car.
Instruments in front of the driver is a must and or HUD. Centre display for the rest is OK but give us physical buttons with most used functions and not buried in menus or worse,sub-menus.
@@volvo_kristian When you were exploring the display (computer), is there an option in there where we can select parameters so we can, like, WiFi or Bluetooth them to a phone or pad? Or even better a HUD?
Completely agree with the driver display. This is a dealbreaker for me, and that's a pity because everything else is good. And I bet they will bring it back in next year's version.
I agree about the poor range of colours. Also, how crap are those window switches!! Not keen on the door pull handles, looks like they came off the garden gate. Why fit a motorised tailgate on such a small car? Will the soundbar be any good? No wiper stalk?
Clickbaits sooo tiring.. Ok to not like things but "3 things I hate" is just soooo uncool. You're a serious reviewer. I like your channel but things like this makes me go unsubscribe. And since when is a sunshade needed? All Teslas have done great without them for ever...
Maybe tiring, but it's also somewhat needed. Gotta grab people's attention in this space. So I'm sorry if you don't like it.. On the other hand it's also a part of my personal thoughts and style. I'm trying to make objective reviews, but also honest reviews from a owner/enthusiast perspective. That means there will be some things I both love and hate with a car. Two opposites. Ying & Yang. Love & hate. And trust me on this. I hate the missing Driver display. Also because there's absolutely no benefits with removing the driver display
Tesla has the highest vehicle profit margin of any automaker in the world, and others are taking notice. One of the things Tesla does is all controls are in the screen. Each physical button cost at least $10, and a screen behind the wheel will be at least $100, and more likely to be maybe several hundred dollars. It is the trend we are going now, as Tesla made work
Well, maybe we can agree to disagree 😂 Don't think Tesla have made it work. Hate the one screen layout in the T3. But totally see your point regarding cost for buttons.
One thing the I don't understand and don't make a lot of sense to me: - fastest Volvo ever, a lot of power and goes from 0 to 100kmh so fast. It means that the car will be very quick and fun to drive and accelerate, and also means that you have to pay a lot of attention to the speedometer. Removing the speedometer from that position means that you have to dislocate your vision to the right, which is more complicated and take more time to bring it back to the right position of the road and also the brain takes more time to assimilate that. It means a lot less security by driving on a higher speed or acceleration? I might be wrong and hope so. I'm no scientist and have zero knowledge on that matter, but I think the brain reacts differently for different eye movements and have to reorganise that information so quickly to you to make a response. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it works better. I can't imagine Volvo doing a step back on security features. Maybe it's our perception that is wrong. Have to try it to understand it.
The centre orientation of the control panel is really not safe. Keeping my eyes not straight ahead toward the road is a factor that excludes the purchase of this car.
Taking the drivers eyes off the road is a safety issue, period. I hated it when Tesla did it ad I hate it when Volvo does it. I can forgive it if the HUD is standard. HUD is better than instrument cluster for safety.
I had a generation one Nissan X-Trail years ago. It took a couple of weeks to get used to the center speedometer. When I bought a new car 5 years later... I looked to the center for years 😂😂😅😅 So, it is possible to get used to. Like driving on the other side of the road... 😉😉
Totally agree! Plus would say give me a leather interior option, (lexus lbx is much more luxurius interior with a proper dushboard) because sorry Volvo but Nordico is a massive amounth of words just to make me digest plastics seats. Sorry but i hate it. Green wash at it best. For the glass sun roof i couldn’t agree more! Bravo 👏🏻. For instace I live in italy and in summer time is not possible to drive my XC40 without blinding the glass roof with the curtain. Instead in winter is nice to add light to the cabin. Is not a matter of temperature, is a matter of lighting which in very sunny days can in many case gets you blind while driving.
Funny way to described the Nordico. Many words but plastic seats 😂 Totally understand your point there. But it actually feels pretty nice. However I would love to get a leather option as optimal. But at the same time it doesn't bother me that much here in the EX30. In the EX90 on the other hand I think the missing leather are more controversial and risky. Potential dealbreakers for some customers.. And yeah. Regarding the sun curtain I can't understand why more and more manufacturers doesn't include a curtain as well. Much more practical.
I drive a ID.4 (ID.3 not available in the USA) and it has a small driver display on top of the steering column. Provides basic information such as speed and navigation. Really like it. However... I also use the adaptive cruise control most of the time and it keeps the car in the lane. I trust the automated features fully and I can easily look away without getting paranoid. So... As with anything you get used to the technology you use and I know I will be able to adapt to find the speed I am driving in the center console. That is, IF I am interested in knowing what speed I drive. It is actually irrelevant information, except to dodge traffic fines. I will seriously look at replacing the ID.4 with this one once it is available in the USA. The lack of a driver's display will not be a deal breaker. How do Tesla drivers do it ?
outside is verry verry goodlooking the inside is just bad specially that door and dash trim where it looks like a kid splashed paint everywhere....and give an option for a normal dash. I would instantly lease one if that changed otherwise i will just pass on it. Its to ugly and is it safe wile driving if i have to take my eyes of the road to use the screen ?? From what i read sofar alot of people will pass on it just because of the dashboard.
driving fast 2 ton machines on congested roads and using multi sw level touch screens is madness the tactile switchgear of the last hundred odd years is convenient, muscle memory safe and the perfect way for the manufacturer to provide a bond between man and machine - the interface. the screen is the 'perfect' screw up....
I can live with the speedometer on the center display, it’s easy to get used to. But Volvo lacks Dog Mode which, since Tesla invented it 2019, is a must have for us dog owners. EX30 sister car Zeekr X has this feature, they named it Pet Mode. Why not EX30? The climate system is already in the car, it probably just needs a software fix. There are millions of dog owners out there on the market, no wonder Tesla is a top seller.
i dont miss the dashboard. Dude its need available range and speed to watch. Nothing else. maybe a head up will be good on glass, but if u use GPS then u must watch the Mid screen anywas. So i dont think its a problem, just new. 1 month and u will forget it.

I agree! A drivers display en a curtain for the panoramic sunroof will complete the EX30.
If the future are only auto pilot than I'm sticking with old cars 😂 Like to drive myself
I absolutely agree with all three especially the speedometer and possibly the curtain. This is a huge deal breaker for me. I really hope Volvo adds the driver display or the HUD. That alone will prevent me from considering this but I love ex30 want to get this.
It's a silly move by Volvo when you think how much they saved vs the customers they lost because of the absence of the HUD.
A head up display is a must. Absolutely agree...... I am willing to pay extra for it.
Same here 🙌
I agree about the head-up display. It can mitigate the problem with the front dash console information. I don't mind if the front console is gone because I am tall and often I can't see the speedometer because of the wheels' interference with my sight. Good comments though. I love your accent!
Yes, absoluttly all of these. Spesialy the driver display
If you’re open to other brands, the new Hyundai Kona EV looks amazing
The lack of a dedicated driver display is a massive mistake from Volvo. I can see this lowering safety also.
Absolutely agree 👍
The single screen is the only reason I ordered one. What the hell do you need to see. It don't make any diff. If you look 15 degrees to the right. Or down at a speedometer. Furthermore. The car can drive at set the speed by watching the signs. Love that my tesla don't have that extra display. I really had no use for it.
Only reason? Wow.. 🤣 Well well. Can't argue with that.. Enjoy your transportation unit..
I want to look at the speed.. For ME it makes a huge difference.. Yes all cars have adaptive cruise control, and some with speed sign adjustments as well.. But I love to drive a car myself, and also watch my speed from time to time 🤣
If I only should use Cruise Control I would rather use public transport.
I mean, just do the sensor thing 2 inches taller and put some LCD in it. Or give us an option for windscreen display, like on Toyota car.
Hoping they add heads up display, otherwise I agree it will a deal breaker
the alternative is Zeekr X !! It has the HUD !!!
Yeah, that one has both HUD and driver display 😎
I would have one ordered right now if it had a driver screen or at least a head up display. It's so sad. It would be the perfect car for me. Even if it only featured the speed. I like to know the speed at all times and it's important to have it in front of my eyes for security reasons. Then we have other car from the competitors that feature both things. Which means that a head up display is a must for the Volvo EX30, even if it's sold as an extra. Totally agree with Volvo_Kristian and many others that commented. Volvo will loose thousands of sales due to this.
Completely agree. No driver display or HUD is a deal breaker. Reconfirms my original choice: Smart #1.
HaHaHa
That space in front of the steering wheel is perfect for a pizza box. You can snack while driving, or playing video games on that bolted on tablet.
100% agreed. Why oh why not a HUD??? This might be the reason I won’t get this car.
Absolutely feel the same.
100 % agree ....... It is really missing small drivers display, or at least they could put heads up display :(
Volvo and Polestar...
The car is too compact for the US market.
Good video. Please help, can't quite understand which vehicles you describe at 6:17 ? C2X?? with the driver display and HUD?
I'm talking about the corporate cousin, the "Zeekr X". That delivers a real tempting package, if you ask me
@@volvo_kristian Thanks, that does look like a good alternative
Total agree not having a driver display is a big disappointment.
Some questions I haven't seen answered anywhere yet:
Any heat pump on any trims?
I'll be pissed if I buy it now and next year they release one with HUD.
Agree. I had a sinking feeling when I saw the interior. This kills it for me.
It's a deal breaker for me. Minimalism is a benefit for manufacturers not buyers. They save on parts and labor, buyers lose.
Launch Edition - £39,450
1) Large panoramic roof with powered roof shade
2) Driver's instrument cluster + HUD as an option
3) Leather interior option
4) 11 colors to choose from
5) Landscape vs portrait info screen
10 kg in weight separates the two vehicles.
5* Crash rating, Vehicle has a center airbag
How does the Brabus version compare to the EX30 Performance spec?
Good news- Volvo’s international site configutator shows a sunshade for the panoramic roof in the Comfort & Convenience package. That’s a must for me.
Nice to hear 🙌
It's a silly sunshade you have to remove from a bag and clip on - it is not a curtain type that can slide back.
The single display could be OK if they implement a Saab-style dark screen mode.
This would only show your speed, probably in the top driver's side corner, and remaining range below a certain percentage.
That was a great feature for night driving, and it's easy to implement with OLED since there is no backlight.
I've actually heard that they will implement a Calm mode, that may give us the same experience as you talk about. Only seen one picture of that mode.
@@volvo_kristian what are the other buttons above the windscreen? You used the 4-way flashers in another video, but it looked like there are other buttons there.
It’s in the XC40 and the MG HS
100% agree. Even though we have bought one. No sunshade here in Australia will be murder in the summer (I believe there is going to be one available though). And the no HUD is a real fail. Even basic speed L/R arrows on that little panel with the driver monitoring (where there is already power and electronics).
Yeah, heard that a sunshade will be available. A stick on solution. Would think a simple speed monitor should be easy to implement.
I also prefer driver display or head up display. I have ordered EX30 today. I am confused now, may be I will cancel my order
Yes I agree and give me some knobs for the climate controls!
do agree with the issue of 'the screen'! a reason of NOT buying this volvo and choose for another mark!
I can feel the frustration in his voice
Great vid!
I agree you. Should not have to take your eye off the road to see your speed ect
I like it very much everything is fine with the EX30 except only one thing makes me hesitate to buy it is that there is no driver information center display which is a bit sad and very disappointing! my final verdict is a big NO for me.
Yeah, agreed 👌
@@volvo_kristian If only Volvo integrate the same digital speedometer display as the EX90 in the EX30 it will change everything then I would definitely buy the EX30 .
If like me, you have to wear varifocal lenses in your glasses, it’s really not good to have to continually try to focus to the side. Even with the best quality lenses it can take a second to find your focus, then you can even feel for the controls with touch screen. For me this would make having no dials/buttons a deal breaker.
I love this motor, but if there's no sunshade available then that's the deal breaker for me, I will be looking at the Vinfast 6 instead!
Maybe look at Zeekr X or Smart #1 😎
@@volvo_kristian Thanks for the suggestion not sure if these motor's will be available here in Canada? they all seem to be going with the glass roof.
Yeah maybe I'll get used to it, but would like it to be optional at least with a HUD.
Instruments in front of the driver is a must and or HUD.
Centre display for the rest is OK but give us physical buttons with most used functions and not buried in menus or worse,sub-menus.
I think I would drive off the road if I have to look at the display instead of just glance down. Leaning to cancel my preorder.
Yeah, It's a dumbass move to not offer driver display or at least a HUD
Does it have AC vents on the back seats?
There are third party heads up displays you can install into the car if you really need it
Clickbaits sooo tiring..
But totally see your point regarding cost for buttons.
definately agree with him. head up display is a must!
Could the Volvo Ex90 dash display be placed in the Ex30? Even as a after market odd on? Or is that just wishful thinking 😢
Agree need display. I was very interested but not now . What a pity
They put a simplified/minimulistic HUD in the EX90, not sure why they could do that for the EX30.
Sorry, i like the Center Display, dont need a drivers Display
One thing the I don't understand and don't make a lot of sense to me:
- fastest Volvo ever, a lot of power and goes from 0 to 100kmh so fast.
Question: say if the roof has something to cover from the sunshine and keep the car from getting hot inside?
Totally agree, i dont like the display lay out.
A head up display would be very nice when you don't have a normal display. Could be a nice complement to the center console.
Taking the drivers eyes off the road is a safety issue, period. I hated it when Tesla did it ad I hate it when Volvo does it. I can forgive it if the HUD is standard. HUD is better than instrument cluster for safety.
While not a substitute for an integrated HUD, there are cheap ($30) OBD2 HUD projectors with just speed available.
I had a generation one Nissan X-Trail years ago. It took a couple of weeks to get used to the center speedometer. When I bought a new car 5 years later... I looked to the center for years 😂😂😅😅 So, it is possible to get used to. Like driving on the other side of the road... 😉😉
Still can't believe this car has the speedo in the center console. That's absolutely crazy.
I got a ex30 I love the fact it has no HUD... All is one screen and I did not miss it. After 10m you are used to it
Well we're all different. I've driven 5.000 km with EX30 and can't say I agree.
Xc 40 har en sån rulle gardin i taket . Veldig praktisk når det er mye sol ute .
Takk for ny flott video
Absolutt.. Er merkelig det ikke er med på EX90, samt denne EX30.. Takk så mye 🙌
@@volvo_kristian men det blir vell noen forandringen når bilen ruller på veien .
Agreed regarding the display
outside is verry verry goodlooking the inside is just bad specially that door and dash trim where it looks like a kid splashed paint everywhere....and give an option for a normal dash. I would instantly lease one if that changed otherwise i will just pass on it. Its to ugly and is it safe wile driving if i have to take my eyes of the road to use the screen ?? From what i read sofar alot of people will pass on it just because of the dashboard.
driving fast 2 ton machines on congested roads and using multi sw level touch screens is madness
the tactile switchgear of the last hundred odd years is convenient, muscle memory safe and the perfect way for the manufacturer to provide a bond between man and machine - the interface.
the screen is the 'perfect' screw up....
