  • In this video, I give a demo of how the keys that come with the car work and how "good" they are. I also talk about the charging cable that is included with the car and try to fit it into the frunk.

    The key cards can be paired with two different drivers "profiles" so that when you open the car the seats and door mirrors automatically move into your profile position BEFORE you sit in the car. With the fob you have to get in and choose which driver profile you want. My wife and I are very different sizes so this works well. Of course one day we should be able to have our own profile on our own phone.

    Hello there
    Thank you for this vidéo.
    Short question:
    How did you setup the 'bip' sound when the car lock the doors (when you are walking far away)?
    In the vidéo at 1min40sec
    I would like to setup same feature to be notified when the car is locked.
    Thank you in advance

    Thnks for your informative video's, i like them.
    I'm waiting for my ex30 Core. Should be delivered in june..
    Two questions:
    Is it also possible to use the key tag on an ex30 Core in the future? Is it possible to buy this option in the future? Or is the car (Core version) really missing hardware to be able to use this option?
    And, is it possible to unlock and lock the ex30 Core in the Volvo ex30 app? After unlocking in the app, do i still need a keycard to start the the car?

    Mine will be delivered in April, volvo transparently admits that the software indeed needs more key updates… when i was test driving it a few weeks ago i also Was stunned how complicated it is to disconnect the charging cable as i was passing at my home to test my charging station. Well, any software is never perfect but for 52‘000 .- i will expect the major stuff to work. But hey, the driving is great and fun and the seats are great and the suspension

    • @stevecade857
      @stevecade857 3 месяца назад

      It's not complicated and unlocks normally if your car has reached the charge level you set apparently. Until then it remains locked or you stop the charge through the settings. Strange and annoying choice by Volvo engineers. Maybe it'll change through a software update but Volvo are renowned for doing things a little different for obscure reasons.

    The part in the clip were you approached the car and it unlocked. Then you were talking for a while you tried to open the rear door and it didn't open. I assume there is a setting in the car were you choose wether you want the "drivers door only" to open or "all doors" or something like that? Could it be the case?
    (Becauae it's not always you want all doors to unlock in case someone is approaching your car from the other side or so. Burgler...)

    • @theelectriccarmagazine
      @theelectriccarmagazine  3 месяца назад

      There is such a setting but I have it so it should open all doors. The issue is that the car doesn't always recognize that you are trying to unlock unless you are close to the drivers door. I've had situations where I have closed the driver door and walked around to the passenger side to pick something up. During that time, the car locks and refuse to unlock when I am trying to open the passenger door.

    • @Thomas-Larsen
      @Thomas-Larsen 3 месяца назад

      @@theelectriccarmagazineI think the driver's side handle has a little touch sensor (indicated by the small groove) to get it to wake up again, there's a standby feature for the UWB part to prevent unwanted battery drain on the key (and car)

    • @theelectriccarmagazine
      @theelectriccarmagazine  3 месяца назад

      Yeah, there is such a thing on the driver side. But kind of defeats the purpose of having wireless if you have to go to the driver side every time. It has worked like normal on the XC40 so there is something wrong herr I think.

    • @stevecade857
      @stevecade857 3 месяца назад

      I think only the drivers door has the capacitive sensor for lock/unlock. If you unlock it you can have it set where all doors then unlock or just the that one.

    From a security standpoint, the NFC card keys may be more secure than the wireless key tag. With thieves having figured out how to extend the range of keyless entry fobs from your front hall to a driveway and make off with your car, the NFC keys should not have that same problem as they need to be powered for them to work which you can't do through a locked house door.

  • @rosshunter9053
    @rosshunter9053 3 месяца назад +1

    Unfortunately Volvo Australia in their infinite wisdom have decided to only import the 11kw version, not the 22kw.
    Question, when using the card, you have to place it in the phone charging slot, does it have to stay there the whole time you are driving?
    What if you want to charge your phone?
    I was so close to ordering this model, but after watching a number of reviews and seeing all the short coming and Volvo shipping it out before it’s ready, I’m having very big second thoughts. There seems to be many little thing not right or they have cut too many corners.
    Also there has already been a price increase even before the fist shipment has arrived.

    Key fob and tag are just awful substitute for real car keys. Fob should have at least one button to open doors. Although last Volvo's car keys have been quite bad, since buttons has been on sides.

    Honestly, I don't understand why you can't just unlock the car when you grab the handle with the key fob in your pocket. That's how I open my car, and it works perfectly. When I want to lock it, I just wave my hand in front of the handle and it locks. It works seamlessly.

    • @stevecade857
      @stevecade857 3 месяца назад

      That's how it works when the proximity doesn't. Looks a bit intermittent to me with the proximity unlock/lock so not sure I'd trust it anyway. You have to walk away to see if the proximity lock has worked only to walk back to the car to lock it when it doesn't. You might as well have locked it in the first place. The demonstrator (Ultra) I drove recently didn't have a working proximity lock/unlock but it might have been a setting switched off though or just the intermittent thing.
