You know, if you want to see films set in India, there's two well known David Lean movies: A Passage to India, and The Bridge on the River Kwai. Also, George Orwell's writings were frequently set in British India since that was where he was born and raised. His novel, Burmese Days, was critical of Britain's colonial presence in South Asia. As were many of his short stories when he began writing.
The banquet scene isnt meant to be "a typical meal in india"; it's supposed to show that something is _obviously_ fucked up in the palace, as indy's conversation very clearly hints at (aka the cult). And of course its a perfect excuse to fuck with willie's character.
Yeah, it's covered more succinctly in the novelization where the Colonial military guy realizes it's amiss and that's his reason for going and bringing the cavalry in.
Indiana Jones was named after George Lucas’s dog Indiana and Willie Scott is named after Steven Spielberg's dog Willie, but yes, her full name is as you say.
In the scene where Indy has his nightmare right after drinking the blood, where he's laying down and screaming in agony, my dad is just off-camera holding his legs down so Indy can sort of lift his upper body up and squirm around.
The villagers are Sri Lankan, I'm from the same island, they're some of the best actors and actresses from Sri Lanka. I know one the the actresses personally. They left a massive cultural impact in the Sri Lankan Cinema.
My idea is that the Indian government at the time didn't approve of the film being shot on the mainland due to its portrayal of the country and elements of the Hindu faith, such being how the goddess "Kali" is portrayed. I've heard that the actor who actually plays the head of the village was a Sri Lankan actor who didn't speak any English, and simply repeated what he heard Spielberg tell him to say with a headpiece in his ear.
With regards to the banquet scene, the official Behind the Scenes book, there's actually a deleted scene from the script where Indy concludes the banquet was to try and scare them away. When asked why, Indy says " Those foods are forbidden for Hindu. Which makes you wonder what they are..." Probably something they should have kept in the movie tbh.
Temple of Doom is definitely my favorite Indiana Jones movie. I love that it doesn't try to simply replicate the original film. It's dark and bold and awesome. The main trio is fantastic! Shorty and Indy are amazing together and I personally find Willie hilarious. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

14:20 Actually monkey brain is considered a delicacy in certain country. Where I live in Europe you could buy and eat cow brain until the late 90's when it was banned because of mad cow disease.
The man that charters Lao Che's plane for Indy is played by Dan Aykroyd pretending to be english. this cameo was payback for Spielberg cameoing as the assessor's office clerk of chicago in Blue Brothers a few years earlier. short round and indy were the highlight of this movie by far.
The big Indian who gets squashed is the same actor who plays the big german soldier who gets chopped up by the plane propeller on raider's of the lost ark.
"I miss Karen Allen" We all do, sweetie. "I love Indian music! And dance! And clothes!" I was SO hoping you'd round that off with Indian food, before the next scene.
I think you should really watch the 4th one. It's nowhere near as bad as you've been told (I actually like it more than Temple of Doom). People didn't like it at the time because it didn't feel like the OG trilogy, but it's still a competent and fun movie that continues Indy's story (and Marion returns, so that's great!). My ranking of the franchise: 1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. 2. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. 3. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. 4. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The 5th Indiana Jones movie is being filmed right now, so it would be good to catch up on all the movies by the time the new one comes out (it probably comes out next year).
The scene when they return to the village is my favorite with the Indy theme playing in the background. The images just really work with the music. You even highlighted my two other favorite musical cues in this movie - when Shortie gives Indy his hat and when the orchestra is waiting to unleash the main theme as Indy is headed toward the rock crusher.
Seeing as you are enjoying Indiana Jones so much (and who doesn't, let's be honest) may I humbly recommend The Mask of Zorro! It's a fantastic adventure film that I think you would really enjoy. And it has a way better leading lady than this film. Edit: Hugely unpopular opinion here but, I actually like the fourth one about as much as this one.

I feel everyone should watch all movies in a series despite reviews. Not everyone has the same tastes, you might like something others haven't. Lots of movies also get hate they don't deserve sometimes too, you never know.
Especially if you are a fan of Marion. And they are making a 5th movie now.
16:14 Harrison herniated his back while doing that stunt.
Not the first time nor the last time he hurt himself serious on a lucasfilm production. He tore his knee ligaments getting his leg run over in the flying wing fight in Raiders and broke his leg on The Force Awakens in the Millennium Falcon.
Please watch THE NEVERENDING STORY!
Kate Capshaw who played Willie is now married to Spielberg, Spielberg says it’s the best thing about the movie
I love your reaction to this film! Yhis is actually my FAVORITE of the Indy films evenbthough I love them all for different reasons. It's a very apples and oranges kinda thing for me! I can't wait to see all of your Indy film reactions going forward! Thanks, Mary! You ROCK!!
14:20 Actually monkey brain is considered a delicacy in certain country. Where I live in Europe you could buy and eat cow brain until the late 90's when it was banned because of mad cow disease.
I like how the villagers suddenly had colorful clothes at the end of the movie.
They put on their best to great their returning family.
The woman playing Willie is named Kate Capshaw. After this film wrapped up Kate and Steven Spielberg got married, and they still are.
TOD is my favourite Indy movie. I'm so glad you 'got' Willie. No need for a Marion mark 2.
My ranking of the franchise:
1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
2. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the
Lost Ark.
So excited to see your reaction to Last Crusade.
I'm not sure what was my favorite... The 180 you made on Willie, or your cover of "D in a B", 🤣
14:22 Now that you’ve seen all of it, consider who they really are who are eating the disgusting food. “It will never again happen in my kingdom.”
