Fun Fact: Willie Scott played by Kate Capshaw..actually married the director Stephen Spielberg.
Ke Huy Quan who played Short Round also played "Data" in the movie "The Goonies"
As the result of this movie and it's darker tone, PG-13 was introduced for the first time.
Spielberg at one point wanted to make a James Bond movie but Lucas had convinced him that he had created an original character who was just as cool if not cooler than Bond. The rest is history.
At two points. He actually applied twice and was rejected.
Mmm, was casting Connery in Crusade a compensation?
@@zvimur I think it was
he also couldn't get the rights to the film.
Not very well known history . . . It all actually goes much deeper: James Bond and Indiana Jones are both based on the Craft of Freemasonry. I am a Mason, had class with Connery at the AFI, read Flemings novels, did my thesis on Indy. There are ritual elements to all this. Mr Play Mountain (Spiel Berg) and Mr Knowledge (Lucas = Light = knowledge) are testing the profane audience to "see" . . . just as Bond was, if you really study the work. It's all about, as was said at the end of Last Crusade, the Templar film, what DID Brother Connery find? "Illumination". The reason this movie was a prequel set in 1935: That's when the CHinese mafia ran the Masons out of the country. Club Obi-Wan? "Oh to be one ask one", as Masons say. "I wanna learn the ways of the Force . . ." and, Ford's/Bond's white suit with the rose? It's alchemical coloring and the rose-and-cross symbology of the Templars. The whip? His cable-tow. This movie overall: A retelling of "The Man Who Would Be King" (1975). Just go watch it. And enjoy seeing Indiana Jones for the first time all over again . . . that goes for everybody.
Along with Gremlins, the PG-13 rating was actually invented for this film. And the guy who fights Indy at the conveyor belt is played by Pat Roach who fought Indy in Raiders as the plane mechanic. Who met a nasty end with a propeller.
It was invented BECAUSE of this film. It came out in May 1984 and the studios scrambled to change the ratings of two releases slated for later that summer. Red Dawn was thr first film to ever be released wirh a PG-13 rating, followed by Gremlins.
@@PorterJustPorter My bad. You're right.
With the amount of child abuse portrayed here, I wonder if nowadays it would be rated R anyway. And I didn't know it was the same actor! That's awesome!
Wait, the guy on the conveyor was the giant German
@@peterversionone Yup. He's better known in Britain for a TV show called Auf Wiedersehen Pet.
The actress who played the nightclub singer, Kate Capshaw, has been married to Steven Spielberg (the director of this film) since 1991. Just a little trivia there.
🤨So, That is How The Audition Went, 😮 Things an Actress Has To Do, for a Part...?
everybody knows that.
The Mythbusters tried the raft thing. They found out it could work and there is a somewhat high probability of living
Short Round is played by Key Huy Quan. He stopped acting for decades but movies like Crazy Rich Asians inspired him to try acting again.
He is amazing in Everything Everywhere All At Once. 🥰
Oh! Also, Key is in Goonies too. If you haven't seen Goonies yet....well.... Let's see, Thanos is in it, Samwise Gamgee is in it, and they are kids!
It's like a kid's version of Indiana Jones.
He indeed is. Best comeback ever!
Second this. MAC React should definitely check out Everything Everywhere All at Once. He's fantastic in it.
Everything Everywhere All At Once is fantastic, and Ke Huy Quan is excellent in it!
I really really REALLY want him to return as Short Round. I need to know what happened to him after this movie.
"KALI MA" as a kid, watching that sacrifice scene was nuts! 👹❤️🔥
Same here! I have loved this movie since I was a kid. Interesting fact though: Kali is actually a good goddess in Hinduism. She is the goddess of time, death, and the destruction of evil. The reason she's so crazy looking is that she is a ferocious fighter, but not an evil one. She bravely fights against all manner of demons and evil things in the world. In fact, when she's not busy killing demons, she is a loving mother figure. She is the guardian of all women, and she protects women from harm and abuse. She is also a member of the Dasa Mahavidya, a group of ten goddesses who possess great universal wisdom. Kali wears a garland of skulls and/or severed demon heads which represents conquering one's ego and being humble.
It's an interesting juxtaposition since the terrifying imagery of skulls and death associated with Kali actually symbolize confidence, bettering oneself, and the victory of good over evil.
Rather in reality Kali is least an avatar of Shiva's wife lol, no such thing as either sankara or shankara stones. Were actually called Lingham stones
One of the stones is in a temple in Pushkar
34:22 absolutely yes
Short Round is Everything, Everywhere, All at once.
I don't know if anybody mentioned to you guys, but the PG-13 rating became a thing AFTER this movie came out; because it's contents were soo close to an R-rated film .
Great reaction btw 👌
To be real, most R-rated movies aren't this hellish either. They may have more blood and a higher body count, but most R-rated movies don't have heart-ripping out, alligators eating people, ppl crushed, etc.
"Naw baby it's the prequel."
Best line. 👌
Hands down my favourite one in the franchise
I really want Ke Huy Quan (Short Round) to come back and lead the franchise once Harrison Ford is finished 😅
Ke Huy Quan is finally an Oscar winner.
You call him doctor jones doll 😂
bruh yeah exactly, if you watch this before like the age of twelve it hits hella good, so freaky and brutal its def a wild adventure. if you watch it as a kid its stays awesome. also if your nephews or kids watch it at a young age you can pretend to kali mah their hearts out for good fun : D
Temple of Doom caused the Movie picture Association to create PG-13 rating. The actress playing Willie married Steven Spielberg.Great review and fun movie!
Easily the best Indiana Jones film.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was released in May of 1984. The PG-13 rating was introduced in July of 1984. Chief among the examples given to establish the new rating was the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
The best thing about the Indiana Jones movies is Indy's heavy bad luck always effects him but then his extremely good luck saves him where it comes across as having a godly protection over his destiny to do the right thing
This one is seriously underrated. Not sure critics consider just how much of Indy's legend and character would be lost without it.
P.S. This is 80s PG. Back in the day when it actually meant something - good times.
Oh, and do yourselves a favor and stop after "The Last Crusade." Only the first three are canon.
I agree with Don
The first three are the Indiana Jones Trilogy
The other two are Trash
17:00
Never put alcohol-based perfume on an elephant!!!
17:20
That is the least she deserves...
Note: the little kid who first made it back to the village, he didn't die. Just so you know 🙂
You can thank movies like Spielberg’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom & Gremlins for creating the PG-13 rating system. It was due to parents who were outraged over the release of a PG-rated "Temple of Doom" that really got this going. The first movie to ever receive the official PG-13 rating was "Red Dawn”.
@MAC React You have to see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), without a doubt a great ending to the original trilogy
LOL I feel so dumb for never noticing this before, but I never actually realized until now that the guy who plays Lao Che is actually the same guy who played Frank Dux's Sensei Senzo Tanaka in Bloodsport. Bloodsport is 1 of my all-time favorite movies & I love the Indiana Jones movies, so I do not know why I never put two-and-two together...stupid stupid LOL! But, what's worse is that at first, I actually thought the guy on Christian's T-shirt was actually George Nada from the movie They Live instead of Steve from Stranger Things, LOL! But then I thought, wait a minute, would they have even seen They Live? I hope 1 day eventually if they never saw those movies, Bloodsport, and They Live, they can do reactions to those movies. I know some fans consider this movie not as good as the last one, but I think is underrated and still very fun, if not a bit more fun at times. It is funny considering this is technically a prequel since Lucas did not want Indy fighting Nazis again, that they still do the same gag with the sword against a gun, but this time Indy cannot find his gun, obviously a reference to the first movie. Also, you would think after this movie's events, Indy would have been a lot more believing of magic in the other movie.
Willy Scott is Stephen Spielberg’s wife ✅🇬🇧
Lucas had just gotten divorced and Spielberg had recently gone through a bad breakup when they started working on this. Which is why the bad guy has the power to rip out hearts & why the one woman in the story isn't treated very well.
that one woman became mrs. spielberg and still is! 😄
They also make a joke about that in one of the Indiana Jones books, where it's mentioned that Willie moved to Hollywood and married "some movie director".
Well, the reactors' comments suited the movie very well for that... What's better than making fun of an artist who saw her whole life destroyed in a single night and has people wanting to kill her? Why can't she transform into a female bland sosie of Indy just to please them? 🙄
Glad to see you guys continuing this series. I can’t wait to see how this series is gonna end next year
The series ended with Last Crusade
Yes, there was some controversy over some of the more violent scenes. In fact, this was one of the films the PG-13 rating was created for. A far cry from PG films in the '70s where violence, gore, and even nudity, were allowed.
I love this film so much. I sometimes wonder if it's actually my favorite Indy movie. It's also worth noting that this is the only sequel to "Raiders of the Lost Ark" that entirely did its own thing. "The Last Crusade" and "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" both ended up recycling some basic plot elements from Raiders. But Last Crusade is still a really good movie. And while Crystal Skull has a bunch of glaring flaws, it's still a fun romp nonetheless. I'm actually kind of worried about the new Indy coming next year. Let's just say I've heard some things about it that are not good.
Re: Indy 5 - I know, right? I'm very worried!
That’s because this is a prequel to raiders , and I think it’s easily the weakest of the 4 .
@@stuartshireFor me it's by FAR the best of the 4 lol
Favorite action film and one of my top 10 films of all time
@@tricko8000 I adore them all , it's just if I had to put them in order ...
Sadly, "Dial of Destiny" is a depressing, boring dumpster fire ruined by
-Ford is WAY too old
-Kathleen Kennedy decided to make Indy's granddaughter the ACTUAL protagonist. BIG mistake.
-Virtue Signaling.
-With the exception of the first 20 minutes, the movie is a BORE. A DEPRESSING bore.
Jaws was PG. It was a different time. This film was the breaking point though. PG-13 was created with Speilberg himself guiding that process.
Doom feels the most exotic of all the Indy movies because of the Chinese and Indian backgrounds .. thats what I want the franchise to be ... there are so many folklores out there for the franchise to get into but they never did, probably because Spielberg, Lucas and HF all have other things they want to do .... its a wasted opportunity to have such a great franchise to only make 4-5 movies ....
great reaction but didn't you guys appreciate the soundtrack? some of john williams' best work and a unique style within the indy-verse.
Believe it or not, this film is responsible for the PG-13 rating, and the director (do I really need to say who it is) was the one that told the MPAA to add it.
Awesome! Hope you guys do more movies! Temple of Doom created the PG-13. Parents complained that it was too much for kids. George Lucas said he was going through a divorce at the time and it was probably too dark.
This film (along with Gremlins, which was released the same year) were the reason the PG-13 rating was created, as a result of backlash from parents at the time.
If you haven’t seen it yet the actor who played Short Round is also in the movie Goonies.
Hello! They are in India.
The actor who plays the Asian kid just won an Oscar for "Everything Everywhere All at Once".
His first Nomination and Win. Ke Huy Quan well deserved.
This movie and a couple of others are the reason PG-13 was created.
Key Hue Quan who played Short Round later played Data in the Goonies
Nice catch on the Dan Akroyd cameo. That one slips by a lot of people.
12:08
Yes it would work. Mythbusters tried it and it did work :D
The darkest and controversial Indiana Jones movie ever made.
It was the reason why the PG-13 rating was made. The first films to be PG-13 was Red Dawn and Dreamscape.
Yes! This is the one I have been waiting for you guys to react to this one!
This movie is why PG-13 was created.
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace has a cameo of E.T.,
Every time Madison plays with her hair, take a drink!
Back then when they were really ballsy with "PG" movies. I kinda miss that ;)
I get that Willie is annoying, but come on. She woke up a lounge singer and in less than a day is fighting sorcerer child-slavers in India with a guy who held a gun to her when they met. I say she's allowed to freak out.
Very true.
short round was also in the goonies just fyi.
I don't understand the hate for this movie.
This is my favorite one!!❤❤❤❤
They really knew how to make movies back then
The volume of the movie is far too low.
i would like to highly recommend the following classic movies:
Phantoms (1998)
From Hell (2001)
Red Planet (2000)
The Blob (1988)
Color out of Space (2019)
The Void (2017)
Rubikon (2020)
Angel's Heart (1987)
The Colony (2013)
Altered States (1980)
Last Days on Mars (2013)
Event Horizon (1997)
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤️
2 *very* important scenes got left out in post that would have explained things better. 1st is the after dinner conversation Indy has with Captain Blumbertt about how no Indian would have eaten anything on the table (one of the main reasons audiences were confused and why India banned the series) and the extended scene of Shorty's escape where a guard is splashed by lava and snaps out of the Black Sleep.
You two are great!! (Pretty much the only thing you two don't do is cosplay, but no worries 👌) I watch / listen to your reactions all the time, I'm just not usually in a position to comment. Here's some trivia that may not have been shared already:
Harrison threw his back out during his fight with the Thuggee in his room, and was out of commission for (a couple months?), so much of his fight scenes were shot by one of his main stuntmen, Vic Armstrong (who doubled for him when he jumped out of the window of the club, among other moments). So Harrison's first scene when he was back from recovery was, ironically, his intro scene in the movie when he sits with Lao Che and his men.
The village scenes were shot in reverse order- when all the plant life was planted and flourishing (the end of the movie) was shot first, then when all the plants were dead etc (when they arrive at the village in the movie) was shot last.
George Lucas, bless him, thought it would be funny to open the movie with a musical number.
Most of the action sequences in here were originally from Raiders and recycled into here.
Raiders takes place in 1936, Last Crusade takes place in 1938, Crystal Skull takes place in 1957 & the upcoming Dial of Destiny takes place in 1969.
11:10 Perfect time to have youtube lol....type in: HOW TO FLY A CARGO PLANE....
1. Many folks don't care for this one very much but I do. It's all kinds of fun.
2. Just a small suspension of belief regarding the lifeboat drop out of the plane🙄
IRL Ford could fly that plane.
3. When I was in the US Navy I got to eat monkey (but not monkey brains) and dog in the Philippines.
4, Shortround is "Billy Badass"🤬😎
5. Disneyland already has a "Temple of the Lost Ark" so another one of the ride through
the tunnel/mine would be cool too.
6. Kate Capshaw got the Willie gig because she was dating and later became
Spielberg's wife.
PG-13, was created starting with "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, " due to level graphic violence. Steven Spielberg and George Lucas would not re-edit the movie because it would throw away the pace of the film and reshoots can add more time and budget. George Lucas wanted "The Temple of Doom" to be as dark as "The Empire Strikes Back"; plus, it was also during the making of "Temple of Doom", George Lucas was facing his own personal conflicts - process of divorce and Lucasfilm Finance while Building his companies away from Hollywood Politics and other Big Studios control.
LOVE that you both are so observant! BUT surprised that you didn't recognize that the British general is also the guy who played Grady, the first caretaker, in The Shining- he looks better and somehow younger in this film even though it was filmed later, but his voice is very distinctive!
"It's a Death Eater ceremony. They're worshipping Voldemort."
Harry Potter and the Temple of Doom
Or:
"Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Indiana Jones and the Chamber of Secrets
Spielburg had the MPAA create the PG-13 rating just for this movie. It was the first movie with the PG-13 rating.
The scene where they use an inflatable raft to jump out of the plane actually will really work. There was an episode of MYTHBUSTERS where they tried to do this and the raft actually flew from the plane and never overturned in its descent. The dummy occupant landed just fine.
Prequel isnt really what this movie is. Chronologically it does technically take place before Raiders. Theres a bunch of Star Wars references that you got, pretty proud you got the Club Obi Wan. If you go back to Raiders the plane that Jock, the guy that flew the plane with his pet Reggie, the tail number is OB-CPO.
8:00: Another Star Wars Easter Egg in Raiders: The numbers on the side of the plane when Indy escapes the jungle: *OB-CPO*
Watched this when I was a kid in the 80s at around 6 years old - terrifying but so fun all the old films where very scary and people would never show their kids this now - but I feel it gives you a sense of adventure and terror like a scary bed time story which made you turn on your survival skills in your head,
The bad guy was amazing and the acting was funny as were the jokes.
Spielberg knows how to make movies.
It may have been mentioned, but this film is a prequel to Raiders of The Lost Ark. It's set in 1935.
Raiders of The Lost Ark was set in 1936. Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade was set in 1938.
Of course Chilled Monkey Brain. Only barbarians would eat it at room temperature. Anyone who’s anyone knows how to serve good Monkey Brain.
Actually the raft drop was tested by Mythbusters and surprisingly it worked do they called it plausible.
Be sure you guys react to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade from 1989 and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from 2008🌠🌈😁✨⚡
And do y'all got Instagram? I wanna follow y'all.
Watched at least 10 reaction videos to this movie and you two are the only ones to have an appropriate emotional reaction to Indy and Shorty giving their hats back to each other after everything that happened. Thank you for being emotionally capable enough to do this-- most streamers these days just joke bullshit through big moments like that
This movie plus gremlins came out same year, due to the extensive violence and subjects the movie rating system invented pg_13 the following year
I’ve now watched all 4 Indy films over the last month . I love all things Indy - but for me Temple of Doom is the weakest . I love Crystal Skull , and sick of people picking holes in it . For me there’s a lot more “ holes “ in temple of doom .

My interpretation is that the bad guys dammed up the river to mine for the missing stones. The dam caused a drought for the villager which lead to famine and hardships. When the bad guys broke the dam trying to drowned our heroes they inadvertently returned prosperity to the village. So it makes for an interesting situation where the stone is magical but it's return is ultimately unnecessary.
I use to like this movie as a kid but now it's the least favorite of the franchise. Couldn't stand willie, the kid and Jones never got revenge on lao either. Even Spielberg admit it was his less favorite. Only thing he like about the movie was hooking up with willie and got married. Can't wait for last crusade. On another note, this movie has introduced the pg13 rating in films after this.
This film is pg 13, i see others listed below about it. lucas made this film darker because he wanted a darker storyline and he was going through a bad divorce. sadly they overdid it with the heartgrab (which spielberg wanted it in) which as the writers and steven say and lucas it was more of a different cultural thing than with the hindu . it was banned in india for a very long time. the indian gov't didn't want it filmed in india and that is why it is filmed in Sri Lanka. The thuggee also did exist and it was the British who stopped them; they did murder men women and children by strangulation and bury them near the side of the roads. some did worship Kali but not to the extent in the film. also harrison did hurt his back in the beginning when roach threw him over his back in the bedroom. (roach is the big thuggee guy ; he was the big nazi guy in raiders who fought him at the airplane. famous stunt man) for back then it was very scary personally. i grew up back then and it did scare me. amazingly aliens didn't.
can you guys do a Movie Reaction to the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from 1990?
PG-13 Was created after Ghostbusters Gremlins and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom came out
Indy is never in it for the money.
It was never established that everyone was under control of the drug.
Most likely most of them were fanatics for the religion.
The kid was under control so they could use him as the Raja image.
Isn’t crazy the palace had a Temple, a mine, a rock crush and a minecart railway that leads to a bridge all under it?
The machine gun in this movie was called a Thompson machine gun famous during the 1930s
the first movie was actually taking place in 1936 so one year after this one ^^
Indy isn't trying to get rich he wants his find to be in a museum for all to appreciate.
I feel bad for the character Willie Scot. She's supposed to be fun annoying, but most people I see react to this, take her waaay too seriously and start to almost hate on her. She's supposed to be a fish out of water character.
I remember the first time my family went to an Indian restaurant, I was NOT excited because of this movie.
Thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
Glad you guys liked it! there is a deleted scene of Short Round watching a guard get lit by the fire and wake up, just to let you guys know how or why shorty did it (and was in the comic book also). they should of used the torches on the other thuggee members. also not all of them had taken the poison. the little kids in the mine hadn't taken it. (when they are in the little cage the one older indian kid tells indy about the poison. it seems they gave it to the kids who were older) and yes that was dan aykroyd in the begining, ; he cameoed in here and spielberg in blue brothers as the county tax dude; he was eatting a sandwich.
The PG-13 rating was created because of this film.
Please react to indianna jones and the last crusade 3 and indiana jones and the kingdom of the crystall skull 4 and John wick chapter 4 official trailer and indiana jones and the dial of destiny 5 trailer can you react to it please
Georges lucas wanted the same treatment with indiana as star wars. Empire strikes back was darker than the first one and he wanted to do the same with indiana movies (with the second one being darker)
And the Academy award goes to... Shorty
That Willie was certainly no Marion that's for sure🙄😂
I LIKE YALL, SMART AND COOL. YOUR LUCKY TO BE WITH HER, SHES REALLY SMART. REMINDS ME OF THE HIPPIE DAYS
this movie was one of the reasons pg-13 rating was created
The villain in this movie is a bollywood legend who always played as villain in movies
