I watched Earnest as a kid. I remember in one movie he screamed I stole the Lindburgh baby! When we actually learned about it in school, I laughed so hard I got detention😂.

I enjoyed his patrayal of Jed Clampet in the hillbillies movie, I thought he pulled it off very well he gave the character the same respect and wisdom that Buddy Ebsen had done previously

i'm a 30+ parent and have made sure over the years to introduce his movies to my kid's some of their favorites are his movies and I am certain they will show them to their kids one day.....his legend will never die :)

I completely agree with you. Jim Varney was a true entertainer. He was an excellent actor, comedian, and voice actor. He might’ve been from kentucky but you’d never know since he was a classical trained actor who could play super serious characters while reciting Shakespeare or he could play characters like Ernest P. Worell. He was always spot on and he’ll always be will missed.
I miss him too. That routine was later reproduced in Earnest P. Worrells Family Album... one of my favorite underappreciated films. Ruth wasn't that big and they ate pretend food.

Growing up as a kid in the 80's, Jim Varney was always one of my favorites, and he's one of my inspirations as one of my dreams has been to do stand up comedy one day. I've missed him for several years, but I never knew how badly I did until "Ernest Goes To Camp" was playing in the living room one day and my wife was watching it. I walked in to hear him singing "Gee, I'm Glad It's Raining" in that scene. I tried to be tough as a now 45 year old man, but I finally caved and the tears came. My wife asked me if I was ok, and all I said was " I will be, it's just really good memories coming back" I wish he was still with us......know what I mean, Vern?!

He could have been a healthy person - perhaps how he lived in Kentucky, but genetics must play a role too. His physique looks natural. You could tell with every type of person and built if it was made (fat, doughy or slim), or born.

Love to hear from Betty sometime; always thought Joe would have married Theresa- We have a tape singing Mullen burg County...Jim was as strong of a musician and a pretty good singer, as he was a Shakespearean actor.

He passed two days before my 40th birthday, and that was one of the saddest days of my life cause I am one of his biggest fans! R.i.p. Jim and enjoy Heaven.
