Charismatic magician Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg) leads a team of talented illusionists called the Four Horsemen. Atlas and his comrades mesmerize audiences with a pair of amazing magic shows that drain the bank accounts of the corrupt and funnel the money to audience members. Now You See Me is a 2013 American heist film directed by Louis Leterrier from a screenplay by Ed Solomon, Boaz Yakin, and Edward Ricourt and a story by Yakin and Ricourt. It is the first installment in the Now You See Me series. The film features an ensemble cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Mélanie Laurent, Isla Fisher, Common, Dave Franco, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman. The plot follows an FBI agent and an Interpol detective who track and attempt to bring to justice a team of magicians who pull off bank heists and robberies during their performances and reward their audiences with the money.
The film premiered in New York City on May 21, 2013 before its official release in the United States on May 31, 2013, by Summit Entertainment. The film received mixed reviews with criticism being focused on the ending, but became a box office success, grossing $351.7 million worldwide against a budget of $75 million. The film won the People's Choice Award for Favorite Thriller Movie and also received nominations for the Empire Award for Best Thriller and the Saturn Award for Best Thriller Film and Best Music.
A sequel, Now You See Me 2, was released on June 10, 2016.

Isla Fisher was actually trapped in the water in the scene at the beginning. She couldn’t undo her restraints and her banging on the glass and the people trying to break it were real.

This movie says it right at the beginning "The closer you look, the less you see." When you actually go back and rewatch the movie, even without the 2nd movie, you see things you miss that point you at who the real 5th Horseman was.
Yes you pick up different things when you rewatch it …like when they take them to FBI interrogation Woody Harrelson comments on the Mark Ruffalo character having abandonment issues from his dad. Def a well written movie!
The buildup to the twist is well written, but I feel like their reliance on lying to the audience by having Ruffalo "investigate" even when nobody is looking kind of soured an otherwise solid twist.
The one thing that this movie has that I have never seen mentioned in a reaction is that they actually tell you who the fifth horseman is. At the beginning when you see the one card that says “A rose by any other name “. For me that’s telling me that Dylan Rose is not who you think he is.
Yeah his last name is Rhodes though.
Now You See Me 3 has officially been greenlit a few months ago. Jesse Eisenberg has been campaigning for a sequel for years because his character Daniel Atlas is his favorite character he has played in his career. He said as long as they want to do Now You See Me films he’ll always come back to play that character.

As a magician myself, I love this movie. I saw it in theaters when it first came out. The second one is pretty good but not nearly as fun, the first one is definitely better. And a third movie is supposed to come out later this year believe it or not! So hopefully it's good!
Unfortunately Isla Fisher didn't come back for the second movie due to her pregnancy.
Also, a lot of the card flourishes in this movie were hand doubles from magicians and cardists twins, Dan and Dave Buck, who are well known in the magic world.
So I was an extra on this in New Orleans! The Savoy Theater doesn't actually exist, but was actually filmed at the Saenger Theatre, which was opened for the first time in 7 years of being condemned after being flooded by Hurricane Katrina for this movie and another that was filming at around the same time.
The theater was utterly dilapidated: caked in mold and mildew, one person nearly fell through the floor because the wooden floor on the upper level was rotted through. About half of the crowd were crude dummies and mannequins. There was almost a stampede of panicked extras when a rat dropped down into the aisle from the upper level!
Normally on a shoot, they don't allow for pictures to be taken lest you risk getting kicked off the set. But given the phones and cameras were part of the scene, they encouraged us to use our flashes and everything to make it look good for the scene.
Spending 12-14 hours in this place with about 100+ other extras every day for a week and a half was a harrowing experience. Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo and the director were great for lifting our spirits.
Morgan (and his stand-in, who looks so much like him that it's freaky) would talk with us and joke around with the crew. Woody would tell stories and lead the crowd in Saints football chants (something I bet he does for the local team of wherever he is). Mark Ruffalo is every bit as nice a guy as you've ever heard about. Michael Caine was a real pro: I don't think he needed more than one or two takes for any of his scenes.
Dave Franco was going in: he was actually doing the sleight of hand tricks and throwing the cards depicted in the movie. He was throwing cards quite accurately from over 20 feet away and was constantly practicing between takes.
Jesse Eisenberg and Ilsa Fisher largely kept to themselves. Though, I can say that from what I saw those ten days on set, I'm wasn't at all surprised that Ilsa didn't return for the sequel: she was NOT having a good time. I'm not sure if she would have returned even if she weren't pregnant.
It was my first taste of seeing the magic of moviemaking up close and real trial by fire (for which my friends apologized profusely for: a was by far the hardest one they'd ever been on). Sadly, I nor any of my friends are visible in the movie, but we got some pictures and stories out of it, though!
"Now you see me 2" is just as good!
Some other STELLAR Movies along this Line are the "Oceans 11" series (a remake with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.. among other A listers) And "6 Underground" with Ryan Reynolds".

this movie seems hit or miss. people hate it or love it. i really dont watch movies. i've always been a gamer and the adhd never helped. this is a series of movies i genuinely loved as a fan of magic. this movie made me fascinated with learning card tricks and i've gone from not being able to shuffle a deck to being able to shuffle without a table, to one-handed. I was so known for cards during high school that my teacher got me a golden deck of playing cards as a graduation present that i still have.
The way the first card trick with the lights in the building is done is actually pretty simple! You get a deck of cards, but put several of the same card in a row so that when you fan through them, the eye is automatically drawn to that specific card. A little slight of hand to remove said cards from the deck, and as he said, the rest is just paying someone enough money to be willing to switch on the lights for you. 😉
I actually know a different technique, you stick the card you want them to choose onto another card (only at the bottom and in a way that will keep it visible when flicking through them), so that when you spread them, it stays behind a card. I figured out how to do it after first watching the film.

Sometimes you have movies that are like, on rails from scene to scene. A lot of the time that kinda sucks due to very difficult execution, but with this movie I felt like they really got it right tbh, at least enough for the cast to do the rest. It's rare that it works so I'm glad there's a bit less of these, but still...
I loved this movie as much as you did! I was so sad when it didn’t get a third but the second one is pretty good, too! I think the first one is my favorite though.

21:00 - So, I realize how angry this made you BUT he was 100 % in the wrong here. He is actually lucky she didn’t just leave him and continue on her own. She works for Interpol, which has jurisdiction over every case in the United States. Her being told that she could not participate and to wait was not only morally incorrect, it was illegal. He was obviously concerned that she was getting to close to the truth, which becomes clear at the end of the film. Still, her anger in that moment is not only justified but understandable. I am genuinely surprised she let him back into the car. 😂

Dude YESSSSS!!! I can't tell you how underrated this movie is and the ending just beautiful (even though I kind of was hoping it was going to be the girl but still), I love it so much- definitely one of my favorite movies and to be fair I am also a magician (a lot more card tricks though) and let me just say even though quite a bit of it was editing there were a lot of tricks in here that people actually do. And I am such a nerd when I saw them I was so excited about it, also both movies were very good I think that I do like the first one a little bit better but the second one was also VERY good (and I'm pretty sure we're getting a third one soon). Also RIGHT- dude I have a huge celebrity crush on Isla Fisher she is GORGEOUS and actually pretty underrated she's a great actress and pretty talented as well, plus she just seems like a big sweetheart. And by the way people probably already told you but at the beginning the tank trick- she was actually drowning! Again I'm so happy that you checked this out, people underestimate this film and there aren't many reactions to it sadly. P.S. To be Honest I'm not sure which magician is my favorite, there are a lot of good ones- if I had to pick though maybe Mat Franco he is very good!
If you want to watch a fantastic movie about magicians, go watch Christopher Nolan's 'The Prestige'. If you haven't seen that it would be a fantastic film to react to for the channel.

I had to come back and rewatch this one lol I can't wait to hear your thoughts on part 2. I'm also realizing that there are 2 versions of part one. a few scenes in this version are completely different from the version I saw. For example, The scene with Mark and Morgan Freeman's character meeting for the first time; in the other version, it was them at a restaurant with the French cop and Morgan's assistant. I noticed like 3 or 4 scenes with the same plot but different locations, people, and small stuff that was new, like the girl showing her tits in New Orleans.

This is one of my favorite comfort movies. It's a great movie with such a great cast and storyline. Can't go wrong with the Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson team up.
You definitely need to watch the sequel "Now You See Me 2" next. The magic tricks are just as great in that movie.

Idk why now you see me 1&2 didn’t do as well, this is why I don’t trust critics. I remember so many people were exited for them to come out and anyone who I know seen both movies was amazed. Both films are soooooo incredible with such a unique plot and great cast. I wish more movies like this were out today. The second movie is as just great as the first one definitely worth watching. Plus these movies are even better on rewatches cause you catch certain things you didn’t the first time.

Favorite magician is shin lim, he is one of the best card magicians out there to a point you will be convinced that he is a wizard when he is just stupidly amazing at sleight of hand. If can win AGT twice as well as fool penn and teller, regarded as a couple of the smartest men in the profession that they earned the title "the living encyclopedias of magic", on their competition show Fool Us TWICE, he is no joke!

i think, this movie did bad at the box office, because most people simply did not understand it at all, or lost track inbetween... because if you miss 5 minutes of it, it could be fatal, for the complete understanding of the movie...

I absolutely love this movie! The second isn't as good as the first, imo, but it's still good & you should definitely watch it. I had a blast watching you enjoy it because it seems like not many do. I dont really follow magicians, but if I had to pick a fav, it'd be David Blaine. I lived in NY when he did "Frozen in Time," and it was awesome to see.

I worked on this film. We filmed in New Orleans. You don't see me in it though. Woody Harrelson was hilarious and kicking money on me when stopped filming...lol. A good movie I worked on, which also filmed in New Orleans was "A Big Short." You see me on the escalator in the Airport scene beside Brad Pitt. A lot of reactors are reacting to that one now. It is a great movie with a star studded cast. I was featured as the Sasquatch woman at the beginning of "A Bad Mom's Christmas." That movie was just ok in my opinion. We filmed that one in Atlanta. There's a lot of movie I've worked on though. I sure do have some stories....Lol.
