The Meg Movie Description:
Previously thought to be extinct, a massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat -- a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.
The Meg is a 2018 science fiction action film directed by Jon Turteltaub from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber, and Erich Hoeber, loosely based on the 1997 novel Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten. The film stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis. In the plot, a group of scientists encounters a 75-foot-long (23 m) megalodon shark while on a rescue mission on the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
Walt Disney Studios originally purchased the film rights to the novel in the 1990s but spent years in development hell. The rights eventually landed at Warner Bros. Pictures, and the film was green-lit in 2013. Turteltaub and much of the cast joined by September 2014, and filming began in New Zealand and Sanya, China, ending in January 2016.
The Meg was released in the United States on August 10, 2018. It was a box office success and grossed over $530 million worldwide, despite receiving mixed reviews from critics.
A sequel titled Meg 2: The Trench is scheduled to be released in August 2023.

The funny thing is that I also hate the ocean, but I still love whales, especially humpbacks. If you've heard the stories or seen the videos of them literally going out of their way to protect baby whales, seals, and even people from predators of the sea, you'd like them too.
Whales scare me bc well its long to explain but I like the idea of them I think it's just their size that freaks me out but I also habe thalassophobia
Poor editor really went through it with this one 😂
The whales too. Also, I loved the cutaways to Crocodile Hunter and DK Eyewitness
Love the movie
where is that animation from? lol
@@jaimenavarro5935 i think it's Luke Correa
@@TheMarvelousM You were right. Thanks!
I went into this movie knowing that it wasn't going to be great. All I wanted was to see Jason Statham fight a giant shark, and on that point this movie did deliver.
I liked this movie and I can't wait to see the second one when it comes out. My favorite sort of movies are alien and where animals are the antagonist. Like Anaconda or The Giant Gila monster.
Fin is the The End in spanish.🤣
it ain’t a mel video without him starving a few times😂
Every time i hear about Megaladon i remember that i was telling my brothers about him long before this movie was made and people knew about him but they looked at me like i was crazy.
The Malcolm X meme gets me every time 😂😂😂😂
27:55 Heck no I don't know what's underneath. I've seen too many horror movies involving the ocean XD
Another good review in the books. Probably my favorite shark movie since Deep Blue Sea…. But they haven’t made a lot of them.
Bro the ocean is scary as hell!
Not if we can breathe like fish
Megaladon is one of my favorite prehistoric creatures so I watched and enjoy this film for that reason alone
Yo Mellow I just watched meg 2 the trench godlee there are so many videos that I watch was uploaded but I had to start with your movie reaction
I like when Jonas stabs the megalodon's eye when Mellow gets gross it looks and sounds like the shark grunted after getting stabbed in the eye
Cant wait for the Meg 2! Seeing it today!! I love this movie and the characters and jokes 😂 but ive heard your perspectives from other people as well! I can see where youre coming from.
Me with thalassophobia watching this movie gave me nightmares 😂😂😑
That little transition you did at 27:40ish. What is that show from I've been trying to find that forever but can't remember the name
Really Wild Animals. Deep Sea Dive, to be exact. With Dudley Moore from Arthur, which Mellverse should watch.
@@TheMarvelousM i remember that from my childhood. Haven't seen it in like 20 years
14:21 😂😂😂😂😂
I think mellow should watch for the love of a child. Probably one of the most emotional movies I’ve ever seen. Also based on a true story
That Metallica intro is the best
What do I like about this movie? Jason Statham. That man is way too fine.
You gotta check out some John Waters movies sometimes, not his early stuff (atleast not on RUclips) but the original Hairspray and Crybaby are both fantastic
I think the dialogue is probably because it was made for asian audiences
When you gonna continue the saw franchise?
You should see deep blue sea
you should watch the hangover movies there funny😂
Hang in there Editor 🥹🥹
Ironic. The editor laughed at Mello's phobia, but was the most greif stricken by the end...
Just jumping on the back of the latest video, gotta try and suggest a reaction to Rocky Horror Picture Show, just came to me as a perfect, WTF movie for you to try out.
Watch him in Crank the movie
Watch 47 Meters Down if u wanna get freaked out by a shark movie
Once we’re warriors is a very graphic and explicit movie but it’s a good one with great acting please react 😊
W movie
Not trying to be out of line but its really time pass time for Ruby Rose to be in her own franchise movies she been in so many movies with great stars Vin Diesel, Keanu Reeves, Jason Statham its time she the main star like Heywire, Hanna type movies
Into the Strom is a good disaster movie !
I hate when actors who barely speak English try and say jokes in movies its so hard not to cringe lol
I thought it was Fin at the end for the french word ‘End’. I liked the end the most with the beach. I don’t care for the lab in these movies. Great reaction though.
Very great timing on the reaction to The Meg since the sequel literally comes out today!
Me and my mom just saw that today and it was awesome.🦈😎
It was nice to see Jason stateman again.😊
Today!?!
31:06 your little “agh” that became in sync with the meg’s jaw opening made me giggle so much 😂
it happened around 17:00 to 😂
had me dyingggggg
“She my ex wife for a reason” 😂😂😂 u ain’t lyin. Movie would’ve been over right there
Not all marriages end on bad terms
@@semajbrown259 Dying seems pretty bad so I think the answer is kinda yes. I get what you're trying to say.
When will people realize that going into the ocean and messing around is the equivalent of home invasion for sea creatures. They just defending their home when they attack.
For real! Just like when people say “shark infested waters” - errrmm it’s their home, where else should they be? 😅
@@jaxbra9 right 😂
"Sharks ivaded waters"
Oh no the french invaded france
THANK YOU
Based on the 1997 Novel of the same name by Steve Alten.
It took them 20 years to make this movie happen as several directors, Guillermo Del Toro, Eli Roth, and Jan De Bont, were considered for the job, from 1999, 2005, 2006, and 2015.
Aw, I wish Guillermo directed it
I met the author in middle school, and he was super nice. I hate how the change how the meg got out.
Yeah! And the book was awesome. I hate all the changes they made to it, when they could have been more faithful to the source material. I was disappointed when I saw it in theaters as well.
The books are awesome. Tense, thrilling. I hate how the movie is so different. It's almost a comedy. Haven't seen the sequel yet, but I'm getting ready to be disappointed 😂
@Codename_Vandel technically, Peter Benchley created Jaws, Spielberg made it a cinematic masterpiece
Let's be real, we only one we ever cared about surviving was the dog. This and _Deep Blue Sea_ are easily the best shark movies that aren't _Jaws,_ a movie I can just have fun with. Put it on as well as _Lake Placid_ or _Arachnophobia_ and I'm entertained. That's all I expected from this and I was not disappointed.
Well, the last dog named pippin in a movie got eaten by a shark, so we were all worried
Shark attack 3 Megalodon was pretty good.
fuck the dog
Honestly I think The Shallows with Deadpool's wife whooped both their asses. Jmho. Favorite shark movie outside of Jaws. Agree Deep Blue Sea would be a fun one for people to react to. Especially that holy shit moment nobody saw coming.
Agree with deep. Blue sea
This movie is a lot of ridiculous fun, doesn’t need to be taken super seriously, but it’s still one of the better shark movies out there. Excited for the second.
Yeah I feel you bro watching anything that has a big emphasis on your phobia is terrifying
I have thalassophobia and when I watched this movie I thought it would help it almost had me in tears like this is why I'm not going in the ocean passed the beach where you can see where it ends like how deep it is you can see the bottom
Also I heard they may be tryna bring back the meg with the wholly mammoth if they do i might simply pass away I might be scared of death but im more scared of the meg and I'm not gonna put up w the meg and getting attacked
I'd rather die on my own terms than by the meg its so bad 😭
I imagine myself running from one the Megalodon in one of those hallways and I step on a Lego 😂😂 at that point I’m just fish food 🤣🤣🤣
In the hallway... cool. Love those crazy dreams.
This movie is good but it doesn't do the Novel justice definitely read or listen to the book. The Meg is more violent and the people that hate Jonas makes more sense
I've never seen this but this was the perfect opportunity to see some parts and how the shark looks along with your commentary! Surprised the jokes aren't better with having a pretty decent cast.
The dialogue is terrible. The writers should've come up with a better script. The jump scares and CGI is top notch though thats why its getting a sequel
Based on a series of books I knew of prior to it's film adaptation.
Also Jason Statham's biggest film as an leading man.
Saw it in IMAX and loved every minute of it.
It's JAWS on Steroids, no doubt about it.
Some people were so quick to hate on it for 'Trying to be like JAWS" and by no means necessary is it trying to be.
The supporting cast, special effects and set pieces are pretty good.
Scenes of characters trying to get away from or fight this monster is either thrilling or hilarious.
This is just a really expensive B-movie.
Of all the other hundreds of shark-related movies they got made and released, it gets no bigger than this (literally, figuratively).
I just saw Part 2 aka The Trench.
Not too bad.
Longer running time than the first.
It has more suspense and humor than the first.
It’s an okay watch and wouldn’t call it a B-movie. Great for cinema or a nice Sunday afternoon viewing, but let’s not kid ourselves that it was better than what it was.
Like I said, it’s a decent watch but everything from facts, casting, and acting could’ve been improved 😇
And you clearly having watched a lot of Jason Statham to think this is his leading film. The man tends to be the lead in films he’s in haha
I just saw part 2, and it was a huge disappointment. Couldn't be any farther than the book. The first film I loved, even though they did change stuff from the book. It was still very entertaining.
If I wrote this movie I would’ve had Rainn Wilson not just survive but actually kill one of the sharks, because you know Dwight Schrute would go full Captain Ahab if those sharks killed even one of his fellow employees. And he would definitely use a harpoon or katana on them.🤣
Also according to the real life marine biologists, the biggest megaladon (which literally means “big tooth” because it’s teeth were on average 6 inches long) ever grew to was NOT 70 to 90 feet long but in fact 60 feet long and weighed in at 50 tons. Hollywood tends to over exaggerate too much. 60 feet is still freaking monstrously huge!
And what scientists believe really caused it to go extinct was the fact that all the other ancient large marine animals it fed on went extinct, and there were not as many whales that it needed to survived. So it literally got to big to survive. A great lesson in life, just because you’re the biggest, baddest apex predator of all time doesn’t mean you’re unstoppable.
I was so excited for this, then I realized I watched the full thing on Patreon last month lol
im curious how much of a movie is usually posted on patreon?
@@Sammiebebop none, you have to have your own copy to watch along
Just good stupid fun movie.
If you are afraid of the ocean, you definitely should do a reaction to the James Cameron classic The Abyss. It is a drama/thriller with great characters...set in the depths of the sea. 😊
This movie was decent i liked it...probably the funniest part must be when the big dude got scared and pranked and fell in the water
You should play Subnautica!
😁😁😁
Yo Mell if you liked Jason Statham’s acting in this, you gotta watch Wrath of Man. Great movie
I feel u bout not doing the ocean because i be gettin scared that something finna grab my leg and drag me under 😅😅
By the way, the main love interest (can't recall her name) is something like 50 years old. So i would imagine the reason she looks kinda off is a possible face lift or some other kind of plastic surgery.
Jesus Mel, usually I’m a fan of you but some of your comments in this movie felt a tad racist and sexist. I’m sure you don’t agree and I’m sure I’ll get some replies to this making fun of my opinion but that’s just how I feel🤷🏻♀️ again I’ve been a fan of you for a while but I just thought some of the comments here were a bit….yikes
Mell's been starving in alot of reactions lately. Brother needs to eat or something.
03:21 Put some respect on my boy Page Kennedy name .. he been acting in tv & film since the early 2000’s. Waaayyyy before vine lol.. love your reactions btw ❤️
Hey Mel, please can you watch “47 meters down” or “Fall”
Why do we like this movie?
Because .. Sharks
FYI Sharks actually have really amazing abilities to heal wounds, so after a couple weeks or so that cut would most likely have healed.
Too bad the 2nd one is bad from what I hear.
Can't wait for the Unfriended: Dark Web reaction
I'm not a fan of the ocean either. I almost drowned in a rip tide when I was like 10 and I saw a dude dive in and break his neck and die less than 10 feet from me when I was like 12
Can you please do all of the anaconda movies?
Oh my God yes! Even just the first one. It'd be so good to see
THE WAY YOUR EDITED WALKING AWAY AT 3:16 would be me irl like ppl need to stop w the "oh they're so nice they wouldn't eat you" yeah but they're a. Ginourmous and like if you got stuck under one who knows if you'd come back up, and b. There have been reports of them accidentally swallowing people 😭
3:12 not 3:16
Me: I really like this movie for the plot
The plot: *Jason Statham*
no way, loved the smosh edit LMFAOOOO!
That brother is always starving.
this was actually one of the decent shark movies out there. I'm actually anticipating the 2nd movie
U never seen Jason act like this?💀💀 u never saw that movie where he basically was an assassin and was fighting this chick with a pixie cut a white Jet li in cradle to the grave
The wale mom and daughter death was really unnecessary
The hottie Asian doctor was in her mid-40s when this was made.
‘But I don’t like teeth’ ….I want you to watch ‘Teeth’ so bad lmao
That movie is something else but definitely entertaining, 2007 horror/comedy but the type that the horror is so wild, after the shock wears off that’s where the amusement comes in. Part horror-comedy, part sexual revenge fantasy
Ruby rose (the chick with short hair whoncant act) literally had an acting double and a walking double and a stunt double...
She cant do anything 😂😂😂😂
Absolute nightmare to work with
Lol I watched the sequel yesterday in 3D and I had a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see your reaction to it.
Discovering new species of plants and animals, new minerals, new chemicals, etc can result in huge advances in medicine, technology, etc. So it is definitely a good investment if they find those in a previously unexplored place.
2:36 caught me so off guard lmao
Love the editor’s edit 😂😂
You want a REALLY good Shark movie? 47 meters. You're welcome! 😈 🎉
K as much as I love your reaction, you are getting more and more rude, it’s making it not that great a reaction, just a little tip. People don’t like a reaction where it’s constant complaining
If I'm watching a movie that has alot of stupid things going on I'm going to point it out. Now you can either watch or not. But I'm not about to hold my tongue to make you happy.
@@HelloMellowXVI I didn’t mean it like that, I still loved it a considered it a great reaction, I just know the algorithm and was trying to offer some advice if you wanted to gain more views, but it’s entirely your choice. You da best dude, sorry for the misunderstanding
Sorry but I have to agree with the editor, I love the ocean. I’d love to study marine biology
Hopefully the editor treated themself to some wholesome whale content after this movie🐳
The Meg is just good popcorn entertainment. I hope the 2nd one rakes in the cash so we get more.
The sequel is even better. 🦈
I saw the second movie yesterday for my birthday and it was actually really good. It was literally full of action from the beginning to end
You got to watch “Deep blue Sea“ another shark movie 🎥
the reason why I like this movie is for one giant shark
and two Shark is getting his revenge on humanity's ignorance to the ocean :>
now you know how I feel every time I watch a spider movie with arachnophobia.... why do I do this?😄
Thalassophobia has me jacked up too, watching the movie Underwater KILLED me... couldn't play Subnautica either lol. I feel ya!
Well these corny jokes are coming from an old person so yeah theres that
Dont disrespect my Queen Ruby Rose she is Beautiful
that metal thing hitting ruby rose wouldve killed her.
What i love about this movie is Jason Statham 1v1'd the freaking Meg and won😂 I mean he is that guy but killing a 70 foot shark on your own is just ridiculous
0:32 well this movie makes u even more afraid of ocean lol
Don’t suppose you want to see Underwater next?
31:42 Nah, she looks more like a clerk or stewardess. Miners have rough hands and muscular bodies.
Oh my God 😄
I love this movie!!! So excited to watch your reaction.
Haha! Yes, the acting in this movie is terrible, but the jump scares and effects are on point. 🦈
