Sky High Movie Description:
At a school in the sky where teens learn how to be superheroes, Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano) lands in a class for students who show special promise. Classmate Gwen (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) quickly cozies up to Will, but it's soon clear that she has other motives. When he learns that Gwen's mother is a villain who was defeated by his father, Steve Stronghold (Kurt Russell), Will realizes that Gwen is aiming for revenge, and he rushes to a school dance in the hope of stopping her.
Sky High is a 2005 American superhero comedy film directed by Mike Mitchell and written by Paul Hernandez and Kim Possible creators Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle. The film stars Kelly Preston, Michael Angarano, Danielle Panabaker, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kurt Russell. It follows Will Stronghold (Angarano), the son of two superheroes who is enrolled in an airborne high school for teenage superheroes where his powers kick in; he must deal with a growing distance from his old friends, a threat from a mysterious supervillain and get the girl of his dreams.
The film was theatrically released by Buena Vista Pictures Distribution on July 29, 2005, and grossed $86.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $35 million. I know it’s for the plot, but it’s kinda negligent to not make the power dampeners in the detention room extend to more parts of the school. Just saying “no powers outside of the gym,” won’t make teenagers not use their powers.
Maybe it's a way to test their restraint, and punish them if they don't

@@zacharypogue4022 I agree. Like the title says, this is a lot like x-men. I feel like the main purpose of the school isn't to train heros or villains. I feel like in a society where people have superpowers, that society would collapse if those people weren't taught how to use their powers.
The school offers a safe place for the students to learn how their powers work, a place where if they lose control, many of the students and faculty are capable of defending themselves and take control of the situation. Excessive use of power dampeners would increase civilian harm.
Because it’s a punishment it’s a school FOR powers where villains potentially could find it at any moment they can’t just have it disabled everywhere including the teachers lmao
Remember that there are villains in this world, and it'd be a lot better if everyone was able to use their powers in most areas in that scenario, the detention room is for punishment.
Back when Disney made good family movies that talked up to their child audiences & both children and adults can enjoy the film.

I think this is one of Disney's SUPER underrated movies! It's so good, I had the fattest crush on Mary Elizabeth Winstead and I still do! She's super gorgeous!
We need a Disney+ TV show continuation/reboot someday with a new generation of heroes being mentored by the og heroes/cast!

@@BabySpiegel yeah. A lot of Disney+ original shows or movies based on older/nostalgic IPs were pretty disappointing and/or bad. But if they at least get the original cast/heroes on board (maybe even Kurt Russell making an appearance), it’d at least would make me want to watch some of it.

This movie is criminally underrated! Its honestly one of Disney's best live action films! I wish they'd expand this concept and develop it into a series or a sequel
The "big trouble.... downtown" line was a nod to the movie Big Trouble in Little China starring Kurt Russell
oh was it? My family has been mockign that line for YEARS
There were talks of a Sequel, but it was cancelled due to the untimely passing of actress Kelly Preston from breast cancer.
Disney wanted the film to be a bigger hit. Also, with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in theaters at the same time as this film also cost this being the start of a new superhero franchise of an original IP. The Kelly Preston death is a whole other matter that didn't play into the cancelation of this film's sequel & additional TV series.
In a time where superhero movies went grimdark, Sky High was the fun, skitchy superhero movie that reminded you of reading a comic book. If there was any superhero series that needed to be made, I'd had wanted it to be Sky High.

The superhero dog movie you referenced in the beginning was most likely "Underdog." This was a 2007 movie based on the cartoon of the same name that was part of "The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show." This also was a cartoon series, not to be confused with the movie that had Robert DeNiro as Boris.

This is a good movie. When I saw the first few minutes, I thought it was campy, but when I saw the rest of the flick, it has that meaning. Where the main character gets promoted to a new program, and had to say goodbye to his friends.

Lynda Carter (Principal Powers) was Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series 'Wonder Woman', and even appeared in the post-credit sequence of 'Wonder Woman 1984'.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Gwen Grayson aka "Ramona Flowers") has recently joined her real-life husband in taking on a beloved character in a galaxy far, far away. Also the glow boy is on Succession. I’ve never seen the show, but he was in a lot of Disney Channel movies
I liked this movie. Not perfect, but anything with Bruce Campbell is an automatic bonus. Also, Rest In Peace to the Legendary Kelly Preston.

Actually Cathy Lee Crosby was the first live action Wonder Woman in the 1974 movie. Lynda Carter didn't take the role in the tv series until 1976.

@@omar174th6 Well it was a kind of forgettable movie. Only reason I remember it is because I'm was a huge Wonder Woman fan as a kid and it was the first time I saw her depicted in live action. However, Lynda Carter will always be Wonder Woman, Christopher Reeve will always be Superman and Michael Keaton will always be Batman for me.
Why Warren went with the ice girl? He never talked to her. Did he just danced with her because she's cute? Makes sense to me! I would prefer if he was with Layla, he had an adorable relation with her; inviting her to the restaurant and comforting her after Will broke his promise. He looked brutal on the outside but has a big heart, Warren is a nice guy. Also, we never saw a character with fire and plants powers together. Would be fun to see.
For real, your superpower is your ability to empathize with characters in films, and it's my favorite thing about your videos. I'm glad you're back to watching fun films instead of those terrible "parody" movies.

Turned 9 in the Summer of '05 and remember seeing this movie after seeing a special of Totally Spies on Teletoon. This film is truly just a nostalgia blast me and my folks still remember and hold in a high spot.

Ohh this is one of those movies that's great but no one ever talks about. Super underrated.
The "Adults representing what kids look like" from early 2000's movies is such a specific vibe that would be so hard to recreate nowadays. Like, it was a social disconnect because each generation's version of high school was and always will be different from one another, but I have a strange nostalgia for that specific brand.
Where the world is divided into cliques and factions right down to the children in school. Makes "fighting evil" a lot easier

I was 20 when this movie came out, and the actor for Warren Peace looked dang fine. Probably 20 then IRL, so it's okay.--Still looks dang fine as frick. Fun reaction video.
