Sugarpunch, as a martial arts instructor, zeku is automatically my favorite as he reminds me of my sensei. His Katas and pinions are flawless after his attacks, shows he means business and takes pride on his martial art. But I must tell you, the bandages on his one arm serves a purpose
When fighting or training certain martial arts styles, students or instructors wrap thick gauze around their arms and legs to avoid scrapes, cuts and bruises. It also holds the muscles in place so your limbs stay rested and they can stay in their normal shape.
If bandages are wrapped around one specific limb, it usually means the student or instructor has a limb that is not as strong or doesn't work as good as the others. If its wrapped around on one arm, it means the one that isnt wrapped is the dominant arm, and the one that is wrapped could have an ailment, doesn't work as good as the other, or it just isn't as strong as the other arm (in case zekus right arm, due to his age he could have arthritis or it wore down over the years). So the bandages are not for show. They help the student/instructor a lot during training or fighting.

Fun fact, Capcom revealed that the artwork on the back of Zeku's Taichi was a callback to some of his earlier concept designs. It's actually meant to be a reference to a War God from an old Capcom arcade game called Forgotten Worlds.
His earlier concept art also shows that he was going to wear the fucking pelt of some giant dragon/weasel creature based off a creature from Monster Hunter(!!!), because one of the many badass things Zeku does in his spare time now is hunt demons that try to cross over into the earth realm!!!
God, I love Zeku. He's one of my fave characters in SFV next to Alex, Cody and Sagat. And the Buddhist connection in his name and mantra that you pointed out just makes him even more perfect. Thanks for making the video.

One thing I like about Zeku's inclusion specifically in how SFV fits in the story (after SF2/4, before 3) is that Ibuki doesn't have her slashing kicks in SFV that she does in 3S...which takes place after she met Zeku. I don't know if it's an intentional thing, but it's a very easy headcanon for me at the least.
Also, a green ninja character voiced by Bang Shishigami's voice actor? Too good.

    • @jk844100

With the blue suit, I was thinking more of actual ninja, as they didn't wear black. Back during the time of the samurai, which, of course, was long before electricity being used, ninjas actually wore dark blue and not black because the night sky is a dark blue, and black would actually clash a bit and ruin the whole stealth idea. Granted, it's likely that that's why Strider wears blue and thus Zeku.

The "Old Man Kung Fu" style you mentioned (deadest giveaway being Gen Fu's gameplay) is called Xinyi Liu He Quan. It's a martial art that's often marked by an emphasis on linear movements and explosive power that's most often applied at a short range (similar to Baji Quan). Other notable practitioners of Xinyi include Wang Jinrei and the Changs from Tekken, as well as Elliot (Gen Fu's protege).

    • @Skallva
      @Skallva 6 лет назад +1

      PerfectKamui ™
Yes, because the colours are not nearly as bright or sharp in BB as they are in GG. Not only the stages fight for your attention but also the cel-shading of the character models, specials that try to pop up in a background that already pops up and even the mechanics like Roman Cancels that completely change the stages' colour scheme for a few seconds just to pronounce the mechanic. Couple that with the limited animation, the GG stunframes, Xrd's love to display 3D camera angles in things like Dusts and Supers and the fact Xrd's music is mostly comprised of hard guitar riffs (audible exhaustion also affects your sight, after all) and you can very easily lose yourself in the action.
Compared to BB, even if there are stages utilising very sharp colours they are offset by milder and more desaturated 2D sprites and even then, they don't even take up a half of the stages. There are no cinematics outside of Astrals, rapids literally just bring your character to the idle and the score enjoys giving attention to orchestral instruments and I'd say I have no trouble with getting into the game the same way I do when playing Xrd.

Zeku was my immediate favourite character from Season 2. I unlocked Menat last among the S2 charactes and only realized just how awesome her character was to my regret after I tried using her. Zeku on the other hand, was the only character from Season 2 where just seeing him made me think 'I gotta have this guy!'
And indeed, I found him really fun to use, even if I'm mostly bad with him. He's really fun to practice and discover combos and options with, and that speaks volumes about his moves design. As someone who was grinding Fight Money to unlock characters for free before we got Arcade Edition, Zeku really did feel like two characters for the price of one, and just seemed like the best buy of the bunch.

I think a good design for Zeku would be to, as you said, make his blue suit green, but also give him something like a blue tie ( to literally tie him to young Zeku and to show his business side). Maybe you could also give young Zeku's blue suit some kind of drawing, like a symbol, and then put it in the tie too.

That arm-belt thing is usually used for injuries which in my opinion adds a little for the character cuz I think it helps to realize he's old and not in his best shape even though he is a master ninja

I love your videos, I hope you never stop. I wonder if you noticed that all of young zeku's costumes are slight variations of old zeku's. For the base costume, young zeku takes the overcoat off and drapes it around his waist. The "belted arm" is the same as old zeku's arm just without the overcoat.

Fun fact about belts and such wrapped around limbs. They're bindings, they help strengthen musculature, protect from harm, and keep good posture if fashioned right. You'll see them alot in Yakuza fiction around the stomachs of members, meant to help protect from punches and provide a first level of defense against stab wounds. you'll see more limb bindings in martial arts training.

The times I created an "old guy" custom character in Soul Calibur III and IV with varying fiighting styles...
In Soul Calibur IV, I was particulary fond of a custom "old guy" character with the fighting style of Mitsurugi.

metagross9092 no he says the whole thing. Sometimes he'll say the first bit in his opening than the last bit in his victory. Sometimes he'll even say the whole phrase in either of them. It's pretty rare though. I play a lot of soul calibur/yoshimitsu you can even find the phrase when you go through his lines in his profile in some of the older games. But he does say the whole phrase.
