- How to make a sterling silver wire necklace. In this video I demonstrate how to construct the beautiful Heart Link necklace, in easy to follow, step by step instructions. My standard wire is .035 sterling silver wire, soft, round, but you can also use 18 gauge nickel silver wire, or experiment with the many wires available at craft stores. The construction of the Heart Link Necklace requires the use of three pliers: round nose pliers, chain nose pliers and diagonal cutters. For making the actual heart shaped link I use 6" of wire. The individual heart links consists of two parts, the primary part which is the heart shape itself, and a secondary wire formation that functions as the attaching link. The heart link can also be used to make beautiful earrings.

Thank you so much for this. I am not a lover of heart things, but I know that around valentines day my customers expect some things with hearts. Learning to make this link is making me think of all sorts of different designs that I can do with it to put my own twist. I am really enjoying your tutorials.
Very sweet! Perfect for Valentine's.

There is never any waste! I always save all SS filings and cuttings; then I bring them to a company in New York City to sell or exchange for other jewelry supplies. Thanks very much for watching and for your kind comments!

Hi - I usually use sterling silver wire - .035 soft, round - for projects like this. Thanks for watching!
You're welcome, and thank you for watching!
Thank You for sharing your techniques! I have learned so much watching your tutorials. Of the very many instructional videos I have seen, yours are by far, the easiest to understand and follow. I look forward to seeing more!!
LOL! I figured you would recycle,,I'm just a very stingy wire hoarder,,and I try to scrimp as much as possible..I guess Rio Grande takes it too....anyhoo...I did try your technique the other night, and was amazed at how simple your technique is..oh I had a small challenge in making sure the loop link was fashioned correctly,,But it worked out! thanks for putting me onto another path of discovering new techniques! Happy Wrappin' see you again! :-D
I love it so beautiful thank you so much for posting
@llu16 That's great. I am glad they help! Thanks.
Can't wait to try this!! Ill be tryin bit in copper though
@HeatherElise2 Thanks so much - I intend to make more!!
Genial genial genial Feliz Año Nuevo bendiciones
thanks alote for this vedio teached me i mad one looks cool
@garybenidorm Thanks for your comments! I use nickel-silver wire that is 18 or 20 gauge. I actually prefer 18 gauge, but for some it may be harder to bend, so 20 is fine too. If you want to try silver wire, I use .035 sterling silver/ soft/ round. Good luck!
The attaching link is difficult to make. In my actual classes, I need to work (hands on) with my students for many of them to get it. I'll try and come up with an alternative attaching link, or maybe a more detailed video on how to construct it. Thanks for your feedback!
was secretly hoping for this video... got the hearts but the link is troubling me.. thanks again
I love this and can't wait to make it. Nice video! I enjoy your teaching style.
Hi Nadine,m Thanks for watching my video!
You are amazing! :)
Your teaching skill is superb, your articulate and have a pleasant calming voice. I would love to know how you learned your skills. I've seen pay Jewelry sites and tutorials that don't hold a candle to you! Thank you for sharing your gift. May all your days be blessed.
Sorry it's taking so long to respond. I've been away from video production for the past two years to prepare for a series of painting exhibitions, but I resumed making videos this past spring, and am also trying to catch up on all the comments that slipped by. My teaching style has developed and evolved over a period of 30 years of college teaching. Glad you like my videos!
Hello! Love this style of yours!! Only,I will use the art wires, like dead soft parawire brand,or similar,as it is MUCH CHEAPER! I would LOVE to use SS,but, just not obtainable for someone on a retired budget. :) Also,,a shame to waste some of that extra,,what do you do with the leftover?? I'm stingy,,that's why I ask, lol!! I really enjoyed your video!! I will have to check in on some of your others! You articulate very well,so,WELL DONE on this tutorial, and ThankYou very much,,very inspiring! :)
Sterling silver wire is commonly offered using the inch as its measuring unit. I buy .035 soft round sterling, which equates to about 19 gauge.
Beautifully demonstrated thank you so very much your so very skilled !
Thanks for watching and sharing! -Ross
