      Hi, Glad that you like my painting tutorials. I've always made my own palettes and they have evolved over the years to serve my exact needs. Very functional. The style that you see me use in the video is the type that I use for both acrylic and watercolor painting. I get lots of requests for these palettes and will probably offer them in my shop as an instructional download. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you very much for your detailed preparation & all the tips! Very generous of you! I love your paintings! I am ok, but would like to paint more freely, as I try to copy everything in minute detail, which is very time consuming. Thanks for sharing!

      That's exactly why I started to paint in watercolor many years ago! My early work was exclusively in oil and I switched to acrylic during the 80s to get away from the toxic solvents. At that same time I began to devote more time to watercolor painting primarily to loosen up my technique.

    Wow, I learnt so many new things like the wonder. I use windex on a host of things like darker areas on the kitchen floor and quick degreasing. The water spatters on the leaves was brilliant. Just found young thank you. You’re very detailed. Not overusing your tip makes a lot of sense and many tell you that you have to use the tip. Thanks 😊 One of the best teachers I’ve found on here! Have a great day.!

    Mixing oranges that keep their glow when dry is an issue I struggle with. It seems so many of my mixes dull when they dry, aside from just using a straight cad orange or cad yellow deep. However, your mix of cad scarlet and winsor yellow, appeared to keep its glow when dry. I will definitely try that one. Glad to see you back with demos!

    • @realisticart
      @realisticart  8 лет назад

      Hi Adam, Hope you're successful with the cadmium scarlet/ Winsor yellow mixture. I've also found that retaining the glow of certain reds can be challenging, but scarlet / Winsor yellow works well. Thanks for watching my vedios!

    As usual, your video is mesmerizing, you have the quality to make the project look easy, but we all know that it is because you are a consummated artist. It is most helpful that you take the time to explain the most infinitesimal details as you go, a valuable aid indeed. I notice that you have migrated from the used plastic food containers to a multiple well plastic palette. Is this palette commercially available?

    I just started watching you and I must say that I really like your videos. There are not very many videos where the artist shows the strength of the paint to water ratio. This is something that Is so essential. Did you make the palette to fit those little condiment containers you have your paint mixed in or is there somewhere I can buy one. What a great idea using the little condiment cups. Really enjoyed watching you paint the hibiscus

    thank you so much for a superb series on painting the hibiscus. I think I've learnt more technique from these videos than dozens of other watercolour tutorials. One question that comes to mind though: can one use watercolour pencils to draw the outlines instead of lead or graphite? That way you won't have to worry about stranded lines

    • @realisticart
      @realisticart  8 лет назад

      Hi Peter, Good question. I have done that occasionally and it is effective in eliminating the lines. What I don't like about that approach is since the watercolor pencil lines are soluble they sometimes interfere with the colors that I am putting down. Having said that, I definitely recommend experimenting with the technique.
      Thanks for watching my video, and glad it was helpful!

    What a treat to see you back! Such beautiful work and a great teacher! Thank you so much, this painting is awesome! I've never painted with Cads, am I missing something? In floral works do they give more vibrant results?

    • @realisticart
      @realisticart  8 лет назад

      Thanks Julie! Glad you like my videos! Cadmiums are opaque and dull if you use them heavily, but if you mix them with enough water to make a transparent wash they can be beautifully intense.

    Nice that you're back. Loved this video. Thank you for sharing. May I ask how do you mount your watercolor paper onto a canvas. What type of glue do you use and what do you coat the finished picture with?

    • @realisticart
      @realisticart  8 лет назад

      Hi Sophie, My process for mounting the canvas would be difficult to explain in words, but I will be posting a video on it soon. I don't use glue, I use thick gel medium, and I varnish the painting with standard acrylic gloss medium. The final top coat is Golden removable acrylic varnish. Thanks for watching!

    Hey ross! I love your videos.. Question for ya if you dont mind... Im having trouble with wet on wet.. I always get ugly hard lines and can never get the paint to go on evenly.. Any tiips? Thanks ross

    • @realisticart
      @realisticart  8 лет назад +1

      Hard lines can occur where the wet area meets a dry area. These lines can be softened by re-dampening the area after it has dried 100% then gently rubbing into them with a brush to soften the edge line. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

  • @zpath
    @zpath 8 лет назад

    Hi did you paint with your paper flat on the table or at an angle. I seem to get hard lines at the edge of the petals. Why is that. Thanks

    • @realisticart
      @realisticart  8 лет назад

      Hi Jaswinder, What I need to achieve in the painting determines whether I paint flat or at an angle, so throughout the painting process I often change the angle of my painting to control the flow of watercolor paint. The most likely reason for hard lines at the edge of the petals is watercolor paint tends to concentrate at the border between a damp and dry area of the paper. This is a normal characteristic of watercolor painting, and contributes to its unique look. Hope my answer to your questions is helpful. Thanks for watching!
