    I had this almost 40 years ago.
    I had a rockman amp to practice with in high school.
    I would use my guitar as a headphone stand by wrapping each ear around the back of the body.
    One day I took my big ole' Koss headphones off and put them around the guitar body and left the amp on and discovered when I played I could hear the amplifier coming out the sound hole!
    Even cooler was I could use my walkman as an input, and other people could listen to me play along to the songs.
    For two people, you could plug the rockman into an electric guitar and use the sound hole as the amps speaker while you played along with your acoustic.
    If you played your acoustic quiet, it wasn't a bad mix.

    Is there any chance the "rubber cone" will leave a mark in the finish? Also, are you saying that this unit will add effects to the acoustic sound/tone of the guitar without being fed by an onboard pickup? I've watched a couple of these videos and no one seems to be saying that. Excellent demo by the way. Thanks

    • @pegheadnation
      @pegheadnation  4 года назад

      That would be a question to ask the folks at Tonewood Amp. I'm assuming that the cone and rubber feet are made from a material that won't interact with nitro finishes, but if that's a concern, I'd ask them directly. And thanks for the kind words!

      @Indianawhiskeyandbourbon 4 года назад +2

      You will need an onboard pickup or sound hole style pickup to use the tonewood amp.

    This is a good review. Does the device fit on an Ovation's curved plastic back?

    • @fsugfc
      @fsugfc 3 года назад +1

      No. It won't bc of the curved back. Also the material ovation uses for its backing isn't compatible. Sorry mate

  • @markrichardson239
    @markrichardson239 4 года назад +1

    Well...
    Very cool.
    So, my thoughts:
    I have been agonizing over a quality acoustic pickup. Be it pick-guard, sound-hole, body microphone ( My most likely suspect ) bridge, or Piezo ( Hate them. They produce perfect square wave, wood and strings do not )
    But, those sorta go out the window as the transducer working on the back of the guitar vibrates wood, and then you are producing pure, pristine wood tone.
    Got it.
    Here is the hitch:
    When you go line out of tonewood...... you bypass the wood and only have a perverted electric signal. The wood does not come into play at all. ( Only and unless they have a secondary microphone post process tonewood, follow?)
    Am I right?
    Fire away and second guess me.
    Thanks!
    Mark

    • @earthman6700
      @earthman6700 4 года назад

      But if you go straight from a electro acoustic line-out, you're only getting what the mic or pickup provides. Minus the wood. Its regarded as a good addition so if you like it...
      I wonder if you don't worry too much and play too little. 😉

    After you've installed the X-Brace inside the body of the guitar, does that affect the sound of the guitar when the Tonewood Amp is turned OFF?

    • @pegheadnation
      @pegheadnation  4 года назад +1

      I didn't notice a difference on the Taylor 712c that I used to demo the TWA. However, anything you attach to a guitar is bound to influence the tone in some capacity, so it's possible that on a guitar with a more responsive back, you'd hear something. • @stacylangford8015
    @stacylangford8015 4 года назад +1

    Seems seriously over priced for what it does. The weight and added vibration might have a bad effect on the instrument, especially when synthetic glue is used for the construction. Why not just use a di box with the effects , easily tunable. Great review! Thanks for the video!

      If it did harm to any guitar, then they wouldn't be selling it. Ive owned a tonewood amp for over a year and it hasn't done any damage to any of my guitars.

    Just got mine a week ago.
    How would I go about updating firmware in the future with this and how did you replace the overdrive effect on yours with chorus?

    • @pegheadnation
      @pegheadnation  3 года назад +1

      Hi John: I believe there are instructions for doing this on the Tonewood Amp website. It's basically a matter of downloading the new firmware, connecting the TWA to the computer via USB, and then transferring the new patch.

    • @johncrush4362

      Sounds easy enough, thanks man.
      Great demo as well!
      Really helping me figure out how to use this awesome tool!
      I played guitar for 13 years, then I didn't play for 13 years.
      And just bought a pair of guitars a few weeks ago.
      Both acoustic and electric, but my electric is on backorder for a while, so I'm starting out playing acoustic only for now.
      Saw an ad for this and was sold by these online demos easy.
      Love it, thanks a ton again man.

      Yes it is battery powered. You have to insert 3 AA size batteries. From my experience of putting in Duracell batteries, i would see the device drains battery very fast.

    • @pegheadnation
