Besides the sick last three minutes of the Slow Dancing jam, what I appreciated most about this was your authenticity. Just you two, nobody in a hurry, no posturing. Just two very talented guys doing what they love, and sharing it. Thanks, guys. Surprisingly, my ToneWood Amp arrived today.
Awesome video with great explanations of the settings. I am waiting, not so patiently, for my TWA to be shipped tomorrow. I had seen videos of the product before but seeing Mike and Jake perform Slow Burning, and then seeing you two do your thing, I pulled the trigger and ordered it. I've been playing for over 45 years and have gotten into a huge rut, whether playing electric or acoustic. Since watching Mike, Jake and Justin perform I am reinvigorated and can hardly wait for my amp to arrive! Thanks to all of you for taking your time to do these vids!
Love the Tonewood. You are right that it takes time to figure out the best settings and you two hangin, jammin and discussing it helps. Look forward to the next part.
I went to WRHS with Andy McKee (originally class of '97 before dropping out and getting his GED). Even in 8th grade you never saw him without a guitar over his shoulder. And I do mean NEVER! Always wore a black trench coat. He was more into shredding back then. He is the anti-rockstar. Super chill, friendly and down to earth. He was the guy at parties that kind of sat in the corner quietly. Very humble dude and a genuinely good person. He still lives in Topeka. I have a buddy that does his landscaping.
This is good stuff. I discovered Mike Dawes a year or so ago after seeing videos of him on tour with Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. Mike's guitar was custom built by Andreas Cuntz, a CWG23 Mike Dawes Signature Model. You can see the untreated spruce "scratch pad" taped to the body to keep it from getting "Willie Nelsoned." (Referring to the hole in the body of Willie's old Martin N-20, "Trigger.") See the Holiday 2017 issue of _Guitar Player_ (Brad Paisley's on the cover) for an interesting article about Mike.
Got mine a couple of days ago. Trying it on a couple of different guitars some with built in electronics and a couple with sound hole pickups. Also testing it with and without plugging into an amp. So far i'm impressed with the number of effects. Without additional mic'ing or plugging into an amp its not loud at all but people sitting next to you can hear it. The effects are cool to have at your fingertips. Lots of settings you can save. I like the sleep feature (setting the guitar vertical on a stand or hanger puts it to sleep). I have yet to mount it on one instrument as I'm trying to figure out what guitar I'll use it with. My fishman amp has most of the effects that this has, though with the tonewood you can change the effects without bending down to mess with the amp. I bought it because of the winter NAMM discount. Next I will try mounting it far from the guitar directly to the amp and see if the effects box works standalone, like on a music stand. I'll report back
I've had the Tonewood amp for quite a while now and it's amazing especially when recording no need for effects pedals or amp just a mic... Now the bad part.... Bring plenty of batteries with you. Takes 3 AA and eats them up pretty fast. Battery power is shown when turned on, starts at 4.0 and when it gets down to 3.2 shuts it down. Don't throw them out because they're still good for other things. It does have an input for an adapter but you will need an extra long wire. Keep up the great work Justin.
When you took it off and put it back on, you could see the wood on the back of your guitar literally bend. What’s the long term affect of having one of these on your guitar? Anybody know? It seems like it might pull the wood off the bracing after some time. I’m a luthier, so I have my doubts? But it seems amazing! I have a transacoustic that’s pretty amazing.
I got a recoil of horror from Andy McKee! At the great American music hall on his joyland tour...because my nails were natural. Dude is one of my hero’s to this day but he seemed to be in a bad state of mind that day.
Fascinating and awesomely cool! Love watching and listening to you two gents play together. More please? What kind of guitar is Mike playing? Great dynamics between the 2 guitars. And no “amps” - totally intriguing- thanks!
According to an article in the Holdiay 2017 issue of _Guitar Player_ magazine, that's a CWG23 Mike Dawes Signature Model by Andreas Cuntz. It has a DiMarzio pickup on it.
That's a great sounding axe. It complements Justin's Froggy Bottom nicely and vice versa. Of course the talent level of the players helps a bit too! Thanks for the insight Doug!
As a result of watching this video and doing some additional research I bought my own Tonewood amp and it is totally awesome! Haven’t played my guitar so much in years. Thanks Justin and Mike!
Does it have an out? Like to just use it as an effects processor in a live situation? Obviously that kind of defeats the purpose of the speaker part, but if it could do both, that would be tight.
Hi Justin is there any chance in the future that you can do more paul kossof stuff “for instance” “be my friend” I’m sure there are a few kossof fans out there that would love you to put your unique spin on breaking down and teaching how his particular songs are played correctly.
OK. Now I want one. :-) Love it.How do I install the magnet? Do I have to wait for the next string change? How many batteries do I need and how long can I play until the batterie change? Cool stuff.
It's an x brace with 4 magnets and double sided tape I put mine on when I changed strings takes about 3 minutes to install it's very cool I've had mine now for about 2 years hardly ever play without it
The strings reverberate the body, that comes out through the hole. The tonewood amp records that sound from the strings from the pickup, and replays it through the same back that fed it through the hole, and gets it to do it again later, added to what the strings were doing now. So it's not better than doing it in an effects unit, it is infnitely better as it is the real thing, the guitar body, doing it again, all the time it is on.
Hello, do you think you could do a lesson on the fingerstyle/non-chord part of the song "Serenata de Amor by Jaime R. Echavarria. It is a beautiful song that i could play, but am not on the level yet where i can learn the song by ear! Please! You can look it up on RUclips and listen to it or on spotify
This seems like a really cool product. Is the installation portion of this product easy for a non-electric steel string acoustic guitar? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I was diggin' the jam session and appreciated the honest review and talk-through. Thanks!
loving slow dancing in a burning room, awesome. Great sounds guys. anyone worried incase the magnets react if you are wearing an IEM pack through infra red, or signals getting crossed if you're using wireless guitar? Intrigued to know how it fairs. Also what if you accidentally brush it with your arm, would it come off mid gig? Also what is the battery length, and are they rechargeable?
Justin, your guitar sounds good. I'd like to know what pickup you are using. I just bought a ToneWood Amp but have the LR Baggs Lyric which is a mic and doesn't play well! So I am looking for pickups... Mike is using that Black Angel and it is on my research list.
I’d love to give the Tonewood a go, and I know I could make good use of it, but unfortunately, I’m a blind guitarist and there’s no way I could navigate my way around the unit without a load of frustration.
Unfortunately for me, I hold my guitar classical style (on the left leg and tilted upwards), and it seems to me that the Tonewoood Amp would add bulk between my fat belly and my guitar.
I know this seems really random and i bet you get song requests all of the time but if you could ever check out jason manns & jensen ackles version of simple man that would be so awesome and much appreciated. I've tried to figure it out myself but there are so many difficult rythm changes, hammer ons, the solo i just cant play by ear... best wishes from germany
Mike had Andreas Cuntz make that CWG23 "as an electric player's acoustic guitar." In an article in _Guitar Player_ magazine, Mike said Periphery's Misha Mansoor might be ordering one, too.
Cool double act. Clever device amp. ("Not a paid thing" Really!!! hahahaha we believe you Justin, I'm joking of course, I mean really?) No tripping over flex. Did you say wet having effect on, look what effect you two just had on me! Cause and effect 100% wet & Dry. Seriously thank you for the explanation enjoyed the video. But talking of wet, (Me no!)Scuba diving is cool therapy shame about sea pollution. Rather like "hyperbaric oxygen therapy", will you be doing anymore diving. We have much to learn from the ocean. Your friend KM went down under the ocean, whom you haven't seem in long while. Song bird told me so. PS lovely duet. Hypnotic vibe. But I liked shimmering best. Lovely take back of the 90s Don't be sad J, I'll be your friend. God bless both and your families and of course friends. (Film you mention Room, is bit like the HOLE, featuring the beautiful Keira Knightly wow! bit naughty though).

Mike said he is not sponsored by tonewood Amp but every video I've researched on it, Mike is the one promoting it. lol.
17:00 Minute mark total amazeballs! great Jam!
I couldn't stop smiling as I watched the both of you with your toys. Fun!
Really good review. Also like the tangent "you are tearing me apart Lisa" the odd Room chat! Kind of surreal! 😅

I apologize. I learned my first blues song from you like 12 years ago and I just now subscribed. Thank Andertons!
You guys are amazing! Thanks for the in-depth review as well!

That 'Slow dancing' jam at the end was fantastic Justin! All about the feel with your parts there mate.
hi old comment
Wow! I really enjoyed that! Loved the jam at the end.
lovely review, so interesting and so intrigued hearing your brilliant experiences with the ToneWoodAmp. Thank you guys
Mine is on order ! Can’t wait to get the product on my guitar!
17:30 Sounds a bit like Bomfunk MC's - Live Your Life :D
that slow dancing in a burning room at the end ! killed it !
I ordered the Tonewood amp tonight cant wait to plug in and play
Justin how about a tutorial on the lick you are playing at the 14:25 mark
Song at the end was the best version of "Old town road" I've ever heard.
I've had the Tonewood amp for quite a while now and it's amazing especially when recording no need for effects pedals or amp just a mic... Now the bad part.... Bring plenty of batteries with you. I’m looking to buy one of these doohickeys... useful to know. Thanks mate.
@@timcotterill3952 did you get one?
Use Panasonic Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries and save money.
Oh man, Mike knows about The Room: "I did not hit you Lisa...I did not...!!!" :)))))) Great review by the way!

Are you talking about him removing it at 4:42? I watched several times after seeing your post and didn't see any bending at all.
A lot of valuable information. Love your channel keep up the good work! The studio looks great!
Shame about you're profile picture
I’m so excited to start playing these! I’m curious, has anyone tried these with carbon fiber acoustics !
Not yet!
What kind of guitars are you two guys playing? I couldn't tell. Mike's seemed very unique - never seen it before.
Would love a lesson on how to play Justin's part at 14:27
That "90's" riff @17:25 was awesome
I got a recoil of horror from Andy McKee! At the great American music hall on his joyland tour...because my nails were natural. Dude is one of my hero’s to this day but he seemed to be in a bad state of mind that day.
Been rather intrigued by this amp, nice to hear it being used and not in an advertising video.
Brilliant! Thank you😄

Mike also plays guitars made by Nick Benjamin!! www.benjaminguitars.co.uk/
As a result of watching this video and doing some additional research I bought my own Tonewood amp and it is totally awesome! Haven’t played my guitar so much in years. Thanks Justin and Mike!
Nice 👍 I would like to have someone discuss the best pickup for this device..
Does it have an out? Like to just use it as an effects processor in a live situation? Obviously that kind of defeats the purpose of the speaker part, but if it could do both, that would be tight.
Jon Johnson yes
Does this need detached and out away including the brace that fits in the guitar after each use
I wonder if you can put a loop pedal between the guitar and tone wood amp for a truly mobile loop setup?
Great video Justin. What would your suggested settings be with the tone wood amp for playing albatross on an acoustic?
Hi Justin is there any chance in the future that you can do more paul kossof stuff “for instance” “be my friend” I’m sure there are a few kossof fans out there that would love you to put your unique spin on breaking down and teaching how his particular songs are played correctly.

Hi Justin , how loud do you actually hear the volume out of the soundhole ?
Is it fairly loud or is it just bairly there ?
Thanks for any info
Watch the video... You're hearing it from the soundhole
What’s the song at 14:28?
Reminds me a bit of Michael Hedges. Beautiful!
I’m wondering if you can use the Tonewood on an acoustic bass guitar.
Can you combine it with a boss ve8 or tc helicon acoustic play ?
loving slow dancing in a burning room, awesome. Great sounds guys. anyone worried incase the magnets react if you are wearing an IEM pack through infra red, or signals getting crossed if you're using wireless guitar? Hey Justine , could you maybe do Bless the Broken Road - Rascal Flatts?
Justin, your guitar sounds good. I'd like to know what pickup you are using. I just bought a ToneWood Amp but have the LR Baggs Lyric which is a mic and doesn't play well! So I am looking for pickups... Mike is using that Black Angel and it is on my research list.
I fitted a Seymour Duncan " woody "to my Maton and it works very well with the Tonewood.
Justin can you please do a lesson on Jimi Hendrix - Mannish Boy...It's a great song and I would love to know how to play it... Cheers
That a froggy bottom guitar? Sounds great
what was that you played at the 14:30 time?
T Hyatt
I kept rewinding to that part as well.
Shazam was unable to identify that song unfortunately.
Plzzzz whats the song!
@@dogiego of course not. Do you realize how Shazam works?
Jeans available on coalville Market.
Can anyone tell me how to go about playing like that. How do they know exactly which strings to hit all the way up the neck? What do I search? Thanks
Hammer ons?
Will it work on a laminate back guitar?
Surely sticking a magnet on the back of a guitar has a bad effect on its tone? It must affect the vibration of the back?
You're listening to it.... Had anything bad?
Thats insane! I need one!! :)
I wish I had a guitar buddy to hang with
.
Can you order more than one magnet ?
.
Will it work work without the the pickup and preamp? I have a classical that would devalue with holes in it.
You need a pickup, but you could use a soundhole pickup that clips in and doesn't harm the finish
I’d love to give the Tonewood a go, and I know I could make good use of it, but unfortunately, I’m a blind guitarist and there’s no way I could navigate my way around the unit without a load of frustration.
You can ask for help, it's easy to set up
do you have to have pick-ups on your acoustic/have an acoustic guitar that can plug into an amp for this to work?
dgksk8er911 this is a really old comment but yeah
Pretty sure the Yamaha LL-TA does very similar things built in from factory?
maybe, not tried one.
Yamaha doesn't have delays though, and you can't use it on multiple guitars.
Justin what's the guitar
I Could Have Lied tutorial by Red Hot pleasee
It’s like the Yamaha Transacoustic range. Except I can put it on any of my guitars.
Can you show how to play "carry on wayward son" by kansas
Great vid.
So this magnet comes with the device? And What if I wanted to use it with my other guitars?
Yes it comes with it it's actually an x brace with 4 magnets to use it with other guutars you would need to buy another x brace hope this helps
Hey what brand of guitar is that on the left (our left)? That thing looks amazing...I want.
Ty Lane it’s mike daws custom line. They are very very nice and very expensive
Ty Lane the fretboard is buttery like an old school fat neck Gibson les Paul. 👍🏻👍🏻
Hey can u upload princess of china by coldplay acoustics tutorial please 😊
That must have been some good gear ;)
Anyone know about delay timing controls?
Justin can you please do a lesson of Adam Levine cover of The Way You Look Tonight
Unfortunately for me, I hold my guitar classical style (on the left leg and tilted upwards), and it seems to me that the Tonewoood Amp would add bulk between my fat belly and my guitar.
what??
Problem is when your playing them quite loud you can hardly hear the effects?
And they said it is not paid content!
Please make a tutorial on how to play psycho killer by the Talking Heads there are no good tutorialss.
Justin could you do a video on Greta Van Fleet? Maybe Safari Song, or Highway Tune?
Brilliant. More tea vicar!
Very nice guys. Maybe by the time I'm 60 I'll be have a good as you. Take care and have a great day.

Awesome 👍
That's pretty cool
Justin please put ads on your videos, you definitely deserve that at least

Mike had Andreas Cuntz make that CWG23 "as an electric player's acoustic guitar." In an article in _Guitar Player_ magazine, Mike said Periphery's Misha Mansoor might be ordering one, too.
