      I have learned something along the way in my life and I try to pass it on to anyone I have a chance to... "O feito imperfeito é melhor que o perfeito não feito." Which can loosely be translated to "It is better to do something imperfectly than not do something perfectly." I guess that is what you meant...

    This is definitely encouraging me to just film on my own (and film myself) so I can take those shots that I've been wanting to get. But I think my greatest challenge is learning how to move and pose naturally. I've been trying to take portraits of myself (for practice) and almost all of them come out pretty awkward. I can imagine that taking a video would be even more so. LOL!

    • @megantanhweewen
      @megantanhweewen  Год назад +20

      hahahaah i think tbh takng a photo would be more awkward then video bcuz it's mostly still but when taking a video i always try to follow this advice I once heard from a director 'give your actors something to do so it'll be more natural and less staged' so that's what I always try to do. I give myself something to do so that it seems more lifelike

  • @FilmMakerFilipHartwich
    @FilmMakerFilipHartwich 11 месяцев назад +11

    Also, don't get too static with your shots!
    Get creative with your shots, like
    • a POV of inside a bush
    • behind you moving POV
    • on top of a closet
    You can create Infinite new angles even if you film yourself alone.
    Have fun experimenting :)

    i think the embarassment of filming myself in public is what gets me the most🙈 my brain likes to go like "omg people are judging u and no one even sees ur stuff so what r u doing this for???" and i really like it when i manage to get over it (it happens very rarely but eventually we'll get better lol) and do these things for myself, getting good shots and creating something (even if it's nothing special or even if no one sees them) really makes me proud and at the end of the day i think that's what matters the most, not what stranger might have thought about me in that moment :D

    • @Rocketryman
      @Rocketryman 3 месяца назад +1

      You video yourself. You do not film. :-) Film, filming, and filmmaking are the most misused and MIMICKED words in the industry. Even though the words, movie, and film, went hand in hand. There was a time when you couldn't have one without the other. This is no longer the case. Thank you for your time, film. Digital video and film require different skill sets. Having DIFFERENT HISTORICAL and TECHNOLOGICAL timelines spanning 150 years. Have PRIDE and appreciation of the gear we use, including the words that describe what we do. Plenty of AMAZING video engineers worked hard to develop the technology that eventually superseded film. Our tools are Digital Video, Non-linear, and CGI. We are moviemakers, not filmmakers. We do what filmmaking wished it could, and movie-making still does. Not only that, but we are creative types such as Videographers, Directors, and Cinematographers. Using the word film lacks originality, and creativity, and expresses a limited understanding of what got us here, including the tools (technology) we use. Also, since the individuals teaching this craft in the 21st century have as little knowledge as the students, so much is getting lost in translation. If a school calls itself a "film" school or defines you are filming. Find another school. If you learn to appreciate the tools of the craft. The art will follow. :-)
      We video or are videoing, we do not film. Don't like it? Apply some of that creative originality instead of mimicking. We learn from, but differentiate from, the RARE professionals who know how to use film stock (like, KODAK COLOR NEGATIVE 35millimeter 500T or Kodak VISION 70millimeter 2383) and film cameras, like the ARRIFLEX 435 or the Panavision R-200 and let's not forget Steenbeck flatbed film editors. If you know the difference and have a better understanding of the craft. You will stand out in an industry polluted with point-and-shoot "pros". Respect to you.

    Thank you Megan for the video and for your advices! 💛💛💛 Filming myself can be really embarrassing sometimes, when I really want to do a shot outside I can wait for minutes and hours to make sure anybody is there so that I can film myself. There are some shots I really would like to do in a crowd but my embarrassment just blocks me 😭. And during years I hated taking selfie because I felt insecure about my face on the photo I was only seeing the flaws, everything was a problem so I couldn’t appreciate how great the photo is. But since I discovered your channel, I challenge myself more , I try to go further, to dare more things and the results are so satisfying sometimes that I forget how embarrassing I was to film the video and it’s really supporting for the next! ✨✨✨ Congrats for 140k btw you deserve it so much !

And someone like me, sitting in the walls of his house for a year, clogged with problems and psychological traumas, and does not understand what to do next in life. Appreciate you touching on the embarrassment part of it, not just the technical side of filming yourself, lol 🫠 I hold the same POV as you mentioned though-no one is thinking about you beyond that (very brief) moment in time, and even if they happen to think about you after the fact and judge or make fun, the chances of you ever seeing them again are 0.00000000000000001%... at best :)

    "Ooooh but the embarrassment" - YES, I WANT TO OVERCOME IT SO BADLY! 🙈 It's just like you said, nobody cares :)
    I think I'm slowwwwly getting better at it since I started filming myself alone. I slowly started to change environments and to film when I'm around my friends and family to capture moments, which has been helping me too :)
    I rarely see people filming themselves, but every time I see it, I think: "that's so cool!" ✨ I like to think that, at some point, I'll be able to encourage people with the same "embarrassing dreams" by filming myself in public and sharing some thoughts and experiences on the internet, just like you encouraged me with your video. 💕

    I’m kind new making videos and I’m way older than a lot of RUclipsrs, so yes I do get embarrassed specially living in NYC, but at the same time I’m older and I don’t care.
