Similarly, the camera angles and movement aren’t telling the same narrative. The steadiness of the opening shots and then jumping into handheld split the narrative in 2 emotions, and the acting discrepancies divides that even further. You are a MOVIEMAKER, not a filmmaker. You do not film, you video. Film, filming, and filmmaking are the most misused words in the industry. 🙂 Digital Video and film require different skill sets. Having DIFFERENT historical and TECHNOLOGICAL timelines spanning 150 years. If you want to educate start by having PRIDE and KNOWLEDGE of the gear we use including our own words to describe what we do. Our tools are Digital Video, Non-linear, and CGI. We are moviemakers, not filmmakers and we do what film wishes it could. We are Videographers and/or cinematographers. 🙂 We video or are videoing, we do not film. That's the other RARE professionals who know how to use film and film cameras, like an ARRIFLEX 435 Panavision R-200 and Steenbeck flatbed film editors. Know the difference and have a better understanding of the craft. You will also stand out in an industry polluted with point-and-shoot "pros". Respect to you.✌♥
Film, filming and filmmaking are words that are used regardless of it is recorded on film or digitally, the words are interchangeable hence why a lot of people use them, it’s not a big deal
I respectfully would like to say a couple things. And I hope this comes out as constructive criticism. The music is tonally inconsistent with the emotion portrayed by the actress. The light was unnecessary. It seems you even clipped the highlights in a shot or two. Lights in the metro are already interesting enough. There seems to be no purpose for the editing other than to stitch the shots one after another. If there is suppose to be a narrative, it gets lost. It it overly dramatic and the environment does not play along. Generally, stills feels really amateur. I think we need to be a little more self aware when giving film making advice. Specially with titles like "your film making sucks" because youtube could be a great resource but often it misdirects more than it helps. With that being said, I do commend the encouragement to go out and shoot and to not focus so much on gear. Keep it up.
While..yes.. it is a Wong Kar Wai style, but let's also give credit where the credit is really due and that's to Christopher Doyle one of the greatest Cinematographers in the world.
I agree it has its phone-ness, but I’ve shot on previous phones and never been able to get this much flexibility. So for those with ONLY a phone, it’s a big jump. And all to say this was just a fun experiment
Iphone 15 base price 800 optional portable light which is shown here - 200 (keep in mind the portable aspect) potential use of SSD for extended storage - 80/160 (depending on size and R/W speeds) HDD for storing and keeping footage - 40/80 (same as SSD) a pc/laptop to even edit on if needed and also access your HDD, most likely 800+ atleast unless your going second hand. overall im not accounting for tripods, basic nd's you can strap on and the multitude of other things which make life easier, regardless you dont need a budget to make a good film, which is creative, looks amazing etc etc. but emphasising its your budget whilst using a phone that is almost 1k in most currencies, your stretching about on the low end 1.2k - 2k+ depending on if you get the extra equipment i listed above which is practically needed for long term use if at all the beginning also. at the end of the day, if you want a certain look, which maybe you need a lens, or want to have certain colours (which by god if your shooting with 8bit is a pain) your going to be spending a lot of money. also to take into factor essentially put, a budget should never dismay you in filmmaking and creation, but never should be told its your budget when your going around with cameras with LOG capabilities, lighting equipment, and the rest. imo its a cheap thing to say
Ok we get it. For broke ass people its still an expensive set. No wonders. Doesnt change the fact that you can do everything he did here with a way cheaper phone or camera, way cheaper lights and with your old laptop because some basic videoediting doesnt need a 800$ laptop/pc nor a ssd. Most people already have a pc or laptop in any way that is capable of doing all the things you need. And most people already have a phone with a decent enough camera because even the cheaper or older phones all shoot in 4k60(or more) at least, stabilized, able to change focus manually with camera apps etc. etc. blablabla
Hello! I'm sure the iPhone 8 will still be good, it will just be a higher frame rate. I also reccommend buying a cheap clip-on lens kit to put over the phone camera, I made a feature last year with my iPhone 6s, with a cheap clip on lens kit I've had for years. Only thing is, it covered the inbuilt phone microphone so for dialogue shots I didn't have them on. Best of luck for your filmmaking!
Even with these tests, I would say not to buy a latest phone for the price they are now. Because you are still looking at over $1,000 when you can get a Sony A7R-SOMETHING for $1,500. Just need to save a bit more. HOWEVER, if you ALREADY have a phone, that shouldn't stop you. Prioritize lightning and stick to bright stuff + Resolve Noise Reduction/neat video.
Nice shots, but the pacing feels kinda off tbh. At one point calm and the next very hectic. The scenes dont seem to match uo to well. That said really cool what you can achieve with just the phone and some good shot ideas.
I looooove the little moment of “clarity” that the reflection shot adds to the “drunken” sequence. This is absolutely incredible, thanks for showing us the ropes! 💪🏽💕
Videographers need to learn what "budget" means. An iPhone 15 costs $1000. That's not a tool a regular person who is considering a BUDGET owns. I swear, I see videos like these all the time and they're bs. Besides spending the $1000 on a phone, you also need the tripod, lights and other things. And no, you can't just shoot a good looking film on a BUDGET phone like a Samsung A34. The video quality is horrible. You still need external lav mics for your actors and a mic for capturing background noise. The reason I hate these types of videos is because they not only give false hope (that's sometimes a good thing but this time's not) to filmmakers who don't have any cash but they also make them feel horrible cause their films don't look like good, like the ones advertised. And you know why? Cause their gear is worse! Stop spreading this lie around to get clicks. A better budget setup would be to write a script, thoroughly plan your filming schedule and just rent a camera you can afford to rent for 2-3 days, from a local photo/video store. You can use the phone for practice or testing out how you would use the real camera - how you would frame the shots, etc.

At 8:52 You can see the cameraman reflection in that window glass in the back... the whole idea of this little short makes no sense... Like what are you trying to tell us with this story?
It was never about the budget, good ideas and good scripts are free. Also, you are filming with an iPhone 15, which ain't that cheap. So i really don't get what are you trying to prove with this video. I don't want to be a hater or anything, this is just my feedback to you. Good luck on your next projects!
is this the budget setup? do you know how costly is Iphone 15 and your light??? We cant afford even Iphone. so please don't title your videos regarding budget
If you really want to make a tutorial on "low budget setup" shot on an andriod which is don't have even stablization.
Iphone 15 being 700-1k USD, the price of a budget camera......
Exotic! 💖Do you have any color grading tut like you did on this video?
So I have the regular iphone 15 which doesn’t have prores log. Anyone have any tips for subbing that? Someone Please help out.
Why the fuck you keep saying iPhone 15 when we can clearly see it's not the base model but the Pro/Pro Max!??
Keep it up.
That wasn't that good , just honest opinion here.... Wasn't terrible but it looks like it was shot on a phone
agree
Agree
Extremely misleading title when you have 200+ dollar light
Incredible dude. Skill > gear, money, and resources. You made beautiful shots with the simplest setups
highest iPhone with s-log onboard its not the SIMPLEST setup. It costs as much as decent APSC camera with lens XD
While..yes.. it is a Wong Kar Wai style, but let's also give credit where the credit is really due and that's to Christopher Doyle one of the greatest Cinematographers in the world.
If im being brutally honest, the final shots suck. Not your intent🙊
Yep. Looks like a film shot on a smartphone to me :D
exactly 😄🙌
I agree it has its phone-ness, but I’ve shot on previous phones and never been able to get this much flexibility. So for those with ONLY a phone, it’s a big jump. And all to say this was just a fun experiment
Well said!@@BradyBessette
Some of us can't afford an iPhone yes it's the budget😭
After watching this, I’m not so sure it’s MY filmmaking that sucks 😂 But I guess it’s a good way to sell some LUTs 👍
😭my budget is 170$ Android smartphone
Your film sucks, even without a budget!
Lmfao, buddy boy really had the audacity to title his video that, and end up producing such an awful final composition.
YOUR Filmmaking Sucks.
His title wasn’t supposed to be insulting. The title was just a way of saying budget doesn’t mean shit to creativity and effort
Absolutely loved this. So simple yet so informative! would love to see more bts like this ❤
"little tripod" lol $300 dollar dor it.
Would look so much better if you would of change the frame rate to 24
And do a little bit of panning. His film making is really basic actually so the title is ironic.
An iphone is also out of my budget
the video is so good well done guys👏🏻 it's just the music wasn't suitable
Youre wrong, the footage sucks
It’s not even good 😂
Iphone 15 base price 800
optional portable light which is shown here - 200 (keep in mind the portable aspect)
potential use of SSD for extended storage - 80/160 (depending on size and R/W speeds)
HDD for storing and keeping footage - 40/80 (same as SSD)
a pc/laptop to even edit on if needed and also access your HDD, most likely 800+ atleast unless your going second hand.
overall im not accounting for tripods, basic nd's you can strap on and the multitude of other things which make life easier, regardless you dont need a budget to make a good film, which is creative, looks amazing etc etc. but emphasising its your budget whilst using a phone that is almost 1k in most currencies, your stretching about on the low end 1.2k - 2k+ depending on if you get the extra equipment i listed above which is practically needed for long term use if at all the beginning also.
at the end of the day, if you want a certain look, which maybe you need a lens, or want to have certain colours (which by god if your shooting with 8bit is a pain) your going to be spending a lot of money. also to take into factor
essentially put, a budget should never dismay you in filmmaking and creation, but never should be told its your budget when your going around with cameras with LOG capabilities, lighting equipment, and the rest. imo its a cheap thing to say
where are you buying iphone 15 with 800
you're 100% correct plus its not even a base iPhone, only the "pro" phones are capable of shooting in LOG
And most people already have a phone with a decent enough camera because even the cheaper or older phones all shoot in 4k60(or more) at least, stabilized, able to change focus manually with camera apps etc. etc. blablabla
someone had to say it. thanks
i mean pc, hdd and ssd are all irrelevant. you should have this if you use a camera aswell.
iPhone 15 is not budget
at this point, the phone itself is just as expensive as a camera 😭😭😭😭😭
great results with this small setup👍🏻I like her reflection in the glas when she looks at the plan, this shot is amazing👌🏻
The only thing is... I don't have an iphone 15 lol. I got an iphone 8 that will barely run 4k half of the time
I will say the 10$ cam from her is smart, so maybe I will be proven wrong!
Best of luck for your filmmaking!
the final shot looks like she is livestreaming and she doesn't know
Bro this video is awesome! Amazing work!
Yoooo. Thank you bro
the sighs felt over board lmao no shade
Even with these tests, I would say not to buy a latest phone for the price they are now. Because you are still looking at over $1,000 when you can get a Sony A7R-SOMETHING for $1,500. Just need to save a bit more. HOWEVER, if you ALREADY have a phone, that shouldn't stop you. Prioritize lightning and stick to bright stuff + Resolve Noise Reduction/neat video.
How do you shoot log on iphone 15, I don’t have the option on the black magic app
So apparently people these days just shoot something and call it filmmaking
i can tell you rarely enjoy anything lmaoo stfu
it is
I mean, it’s more than doing nothing and criticizing others.
you have no idea how much work goes into “small” projects like this.
Color grading, shot making, establishing shots, storytelling through cinematography, did you not watch the video lol
Rüttenscheider Stern Müttenscheider Stern sag ich. 👍👍👍
Nice shots, but the pacing feels kinda off tbh. At one point calm and the next very hectic. The scenes dont seem to match uo to well. That said really cool what you can achieve with just the phone and some good shot ideas.
Congratulations on your work man! Really cool shots you got. Im planning on buying a new phone, any other options besides Iphone?
I looooove the little moment of “clarity” that the reflection shot adds to the “drunken” sequence. This is absolutely incredible, thanks for showing us the ropes! 💪🏽💕
That title... lol but good effort
"Not your budget," shows iPhone in the thumbnail as if everyone can afford Apple products.
Android phones + basic video apps.
yall act like you can't pay 25 bucks a month for an iphone lol no one has to pay all the money up front
