Jack, I’m gonna need you to work on becoming an audiobook narrator. The way you read those summaries make me want to buy them all. Your tone and accent is everything! Also, I finished Nightcrawling yesterday and it was incredible. I’m glad you got her new book!
I've never heard you talk about Clarice Lispector, as a Brazilian she is a goddess for me and the reason I started reading real literature as a teenager and wanting to be a writer as well. I would love to hear more of Clarice from you. People need to read her.
So cool that you have such a following that you can request books! Clearly a win for the publishers because these are now all the books are on our to be read lists . Congrats ❤🎉
I'm reading 'The Love of Singular Men' now, and I was devastated when I learned that the author, Victor Heringer, sadly took his life in 2018 at the young age of 29. :( I would have loved to read more of his beautiful writing.
Hi! I just discovered your channel and I already want to read every single book you talk about, even when they’re far from what I usually read 🌞 Thank you, because it will help me expand my reading genres - A new subscriber from France
So excited to see a new Lispector being released this year! I'm reading Near to the Wild Heart and am tabbing every second sentence 😅 That woman knows how to write!
still waiting for that books I've read from around the world jack 🤨🤨 (loved this, actually jelly you get sent these books for free, youre living the dream)
@@jack_in_the_books YESSSS looking forward to it (also maybe I should keep commenting about it this is the second jack notice I've got from asking about it)
Hey Jack! Victor Herringer was a great writer, and besides "The love of singular men" he won the Jabuti prize for writing the book "Glory". Now, you see, the Jabuti prize is huge for us brazilian literature lovers. I'd love if you keep in touch with our culture and writing, and maybe make a video about it. I know you've read Clarice Lispector, but you must get to know other names! Machado de Assis, Jorge Amado (a personal favourite of mine), Lélia Gonzalez, Conceição Evaristo!! We have so much to share about racial literacy, gender discussions, wealth and poverty, etc. Thank you for the video
I’m interested to see what you think of Cult Classic! I found it a bit confused - not confusing (cuz the plot is pretty straightforward), but more like the author couldn’t figure out what she wanted the book to be.
Thank you, Jack🌷On the Calculation of Volume by the Danish author Solvej Balle is an exciting read about a woman who’s stuck in time on November 18 of a certain year, for years. The first three (slim) volumes have already appeared in many languages, and the author has won the Nordic Council prize for this work.
Jaaack! I’m going to keep commenting this until you read this haha - I strongly recommend the book “Some Strange Music Draws Me In”. I’m just finishing it now and it’s my favourite book I’ve read this year, even (just slightly) above Blue Sisters. It’s a trans coming of age story jumping between 1984 and 2019. This book is SO underrated and no one is talking about it!
Love that cover of the new Clarice lispector! Definitely dont need it because i already own the complete short stories.. but perhaps... A portable version 🤔
Engaging with books has significantly elevated my perspective on investing. True wealth isn't built through mere savings; financial freedom stems from strategic investments. I've learned that accumulating wealth hinges on making prudent investment decisions
Books have also changed my perspective on investing. Understanding that real wealth is built through strategic investments rather than mere savings is crucial. Working with an adviser has pointed me in the right direction..
This intrigues me. I've looked up financial advisors online, but finding one to connect with is a bit difficult. Do you mind if I ask for your recommendation?
I recently got Normal People. My sister insisted on reading it even though it's not her type or genre of books. Upon opening the first page, she went Oh, Sally! because she realized Sally doesn't use inverted commas for her dialogues😂
Not sure if you’ve read it, but if you are interested in the way authors write about flowers and how to incorporate them in a novel read “The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart” by Holly Ringland. An intense book about grief and finding oneself, with a chapter named after a flower and its meaning that intertwines into that particular chapter itself. The book was also made into a tv series on Prime, but no where near as good as the book!!
In this stage of my life, I don't even get excited for new books. But it's Sally Rooney! And intermezzo sounds so up my alley that I can't help but get hyped about it.
Jack have you read Osamu Dazai’s daughter, Yuko Tsushima? As he died when she was very young apparently the thematic similarities and influences are very interesting

Love your content but was wondering if it's just me but you get a lot of hauls but don't review the books mentioned? I've got some of your recommended titles and keen to read more.
Could you please make a video discussing ARC requests and the mindset of the community this involves? I'm asking because I just read an advance review on Goodreads about Intermezzo, and the user said "If you haven't read this book yet, what are you even doing with your life?" but the book is literarily not available for another month. So not only is it a dumb question, but it's also very likely plain old boot-licking to the author/publisher. It just strikes me as odd, because why would someone contributing to the conversation in such ways be an ARC recipient? Thank you.
I just want to validate the texture disgust thing. I can't stand certain types of "dry" and porous textures, and sorry if this is disgusting, I have to lick my fingertips first to touch them. 😑

Idk why but I was so excited for Jack when Sally Rooney released her new book.
intermezzo is SO good it’s really going to cement sally rooney’s place as a literary fiction author (although she always has been to me)
