      @@af.noir_ Well, that issue versus the overall performance and design, i don't think it's fair to just look at the issue to say a device isn't enough unless they're shooting 4k video 24/7..😅😅..

    • @nicholaslee5473
      @nicholaslee5473 Год назад +6

      @@af.noir_ Fun fact, the overheating during 4k recording is because it has a higher bitrate than its competitors.
      Not all 4k videos are created equal. A one minute 4k 60fps is 152054kbps, which is around 920MB/s, while the iPhone 14 Pro is 54895kbps (393MB/s), and the S22 Ultra at 62106kbps (451MB/s). The V solved the heating issue, at least in recording, by introducing better heat dissipation while other manufacturers just cheat and lower the bitrate to keep the phone cool. Kudos to that.
      Another reason why the overheating warning keeps popping up is because Sony is following Japanese legislative standards, which means their phone cannot go higher than 50 Celsius. The throttling is thus more aggressive than phones that do not follow the Japanese safety standard.

    • @liv0003

      @@liv0003 software support is overrated. Even if you buy a 5 year old android flagship still works as a flagship and everybody must have forgotten the bugs after software update especially on Apple devices (face unlock not working after update). You don't always need the major upgrades if there's nothing wrong with current one. What I'm saying is, reviewers should consider the strengths of the device not just the price. When something looks excellent you don't change it just for the sake of changing it. That's meaningless and amateurish. Sony seems to be one of the only companies, other than Asus, who seem to care what the consumers want. Not everyone was ready to ditch the headphone jack when most others did. Pretty much just Asus and Sony kept it. But Sony giving us expandable storage cements it as the true friend of the consumer. Internal storage is how other phone companies raise prices. Storage is cheap, and they know it, so they gatekeep it at a premium. Bravo to Sony for letting the consumer decide how much they want to spend on storage.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England Год назад

      Sony had a terrible 2022 with dumpster-diving sales. I don't think consumers want an SD reader or Jack. Otherwise, it would have been best-selling. There was another OEM with both, LG, and so few people bought their phones that they closed their smartphone business. There is no proof that consumers cannot live without these two features; quite the contrary.

    • @TaiwanisMoving

      @@andyH_England I think you're confusing commercial success with what people want. Sony lagged behind in a lot of areas, chiefly computational photography, which is why other android brands beat them consistently. Literally nothing will make an iPhone user switch. Pixel's phone camera will give you unrealistic results. Like 99% of smartphone manufacturers, they don't care about producing realistic images, they over-process their photos and come with the usual AI, upscaling, smoothing etc artifacts you'd expect. They're arguably the best at it though, right next to Samsung.
      They have the dreaded "phone quality", but they are very cheap for what they do give you.
      Xperias are the only phones in the market that don't have the "phone quality", speaking as a user of 4 months. Sony doesn't over-process, they're porting professionally developed software from the alpha cameras and they don't rely on AI to show you what it thinks you want to see. Pretty much everything on them is telling you to take control instead of rely on auto modes and stuff and they're tuned for this kind of use, but even their auto mode is crazy good at this point with the most accurate white balance and color science I've ever seen on a smartphone.
      Also Pixels have awful magenta casts in low light and 90% of your pictures will consist of orange and deep blue color science with all other colors apart from red being laughably washed out and desaturated, including skin tones.

    I mostly like Xperia because of the expandable storage, earphone jack, classy and understated design, the possibility of upskilling myself in the use of Sony cameras, and finally the super wide screen gives lots of real estate for retro games like those on ppsspp, which are generally better than genshin etc anyway... The new grip and chassis detailing, as well as the addition of night mode photography and a top end processor that apparently makes overheating a thing of the past sealed it.

      Sony is always behind not just against Apple and Samsung, other brands too like Oppo, OnePlus, Xiaomi etc etc
      All mainstream brands are way ahead of Sony in photography, design, price, eco-system and consumer base.
      Photography: Sony provides majority of smartphone brands their camera sensors and they outperform Sony in image quality such as Apple, Apple is popular amongst tech reviewers to create content for image quality and video quality but it uses Sony sensors. Why is Sony so behind with its own camera sensor technology?
      Design: Sony is like Apple when it comes to design. Flat screen, camera bump in the same place, not being creative. If you look at Oppo, OnePlus or Xiaomi their camera layout design just look sexy.
      Price: my Sony Xperia XZ Premium cost me £649 RRP at launch.
      It's got 19MP camera at the back and 13MP front camera, SD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, 4K HDR screen.
      Now Sony charges DOUBLE PRICE just like last year at £1299 for Sony Xperia 1 V for SD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, 4K HDR screen, 3 cameras, 5G and OLED screen technology.
      Is paying £1299 for a smartphone that has 2 extra camera sensors, 5G and OLED screen acceptable? No it's not acceptable, I would pay £1299 if the phone was made out of ceramic or leather which are premium materials to warrant the premium price tag of £1299 but as the phone is made of glass the price should be around the £999 price point in my opinion.
      Eco-system: again Sony is far behind other brands when it comes to ecosystems. The most a Sony consumer can do is pair Sony branded Bluetooth earphones or headphones to Sony branded smartphones. There is no Sony tablets, Sony smart watches or Sony laptops that you can connect to, unlike Samsung and Apple.
      Why doesn't Sony create these fundamental product's?

    I was on the fence about upgrading from my LG v60 to the 1 IV but the heat issues seemed like they'd be annoying so I didn't do it. Everything else looked great though. Glad I waited for a new chipset, I'm going to pull the trigger on this one. Can't wait to play around with the camera too. I think I'll keep the LG around as a dedicated audio device for the car, as it does anything audio related very well (3.5mm has a great DAC with 32bit output). I'm curious how the audio output compares between the LG and the 1 V.

But the lack of basic things like expandable storage and a 3.5mm headphone jack really was inconvenient for me. Besides that, some of the technical apps I've been using for years simply do not exist in the Apple store. Also, why can't I plug my phone into my computer to backup my photos? It's things like that, things that are pretty much universally present on almost any other phone since decades ago made it really hard for me to not think about switching back. The only perk was people telling me "you have blue squares", which honestly doesn't get me hard so... here we are. Can't wait play with the Sony.

      I take it as paying for the longevity. Such phone will be used for 5-6 years, at that point it's worth it to not skip on features you might want in the future. Speaking of course about headphone jack and SD card.
      Personally after couple of years with BT headphones I went back to cables. The convenience of not having to worry about charging, having my cable under the shirt so I don't have to put the headphones away and noticeably higher sound quality (even when comparing to 5x more expensive BT headphones) outweighs the fact that you can't use them more than a meter away from your phone.
      And while I have everything on cloud, it's actually that fact why I am using SD card reader anymore. When out and about, moving files from camera to cloud is much easier than having to carry additional dongle for SD to USB-C.

So was apple's 14 pro max when it was released, but it came without a 3.5" jack, no support for SD-card, no 4k display, no optical zoom, inferior speakers, inferior AF, slower charging speed, no 4k@120 FPS on all lenses, inferior OS, and so on ;-)

      Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about.
      As much as Apple tries, they'll never be able to fix their awful white balance. They're stuck with yellow and green photos and videos for eternity it seems.

      If you want to enjoy such Hi-Res and high quality sound from an iPhone or Galaxy, better of spending 100$ on a high end USB-C Dongle with built-in Hi -Res Dac. This phone has it included inside.
