As a very contented S23 Ultra owner looking in, I have to say that I admire where Sony is with it's smartphone camera systems. They are more for people who either know about photography or who want to know about photography. They go easy on sharpening and processing and saturation to give more natural results (even in auto mode) than on other flagship devices. They don't do all the work for you. The overheating issues of the past have hopefully been overcome now as this put me off getting one a few years ago. The price will be high, but quality doesn't often come cheap. I hope Sony have some deserved success with this device.

@@LiveAndLaughs Having a random spot in your display with no pixels is infuriating. I use the 1 III, and whenever I use a Galaxy or iPhone the first thing I notice is the camera cutout. It's equivalent to having a faulty display with dead pixels.

Of all the simultaneously released Xperia 1 V videos co-ordinated by the Sony marketing team, this is by far the best. Every single video made a point about the user interface in the Photography Pro and Video Pro apps supporting portrait mode because it was likely directed by Sony to call out - but you were the only creator to point out that it doesn't work with the phone upside down. Respect.
The front facing camera has been upgraded to the point i think is even better than my 14 pro max, what an insane amount of detail and quality on rear and front cameras, i was afraid of 1 Mk IV because of overheating but seems sony has done it right this time, awesome work!

Dunno why people keep harping on this, android has been pretty much the same since kitkat, and in my 10+ years of xperia + android usage I've never had any security issues, each update of android makes the user experience more lengthy and complex is all. To me Sony is the best mobile on earth, samdung and nipple come 50 trillion leagues below.

As long as the phone's temperature problem is resolved, this is a really good thing. The rest of the things are always special at Sony. I liked this phone a lot. I can't wait. I will get it as soon as it's released.

I love Sony and used many Sony products since the 80s. I bought 3 Vaio computers before 2 still with me, but due to capacity I don't use them, used Sony 8mm video camera 22 years ago, Sony portable CD player, MiniDisc, Walkmans, speakers, deck amplifier, and LP players, earphones, etc. I was a Sony man. Don't buy a Sony phone, because of the price and performance, but I know they have made everything with quality stuff.

Im currently on sony xperia 1 ii and while I love it in some ways, some things really just bugs me beyond annoyance. One of them being mic sound quality. Hearing that the sony 1 V still have a mic quality subpar gives me ptsd, all other great features aside.
You're not wrong there lol (I have 1ii as well). At least these phones have headphone jacks so you can get a $20 mic and plug that in, it sounds amazing.
This the reason why apple iphone 15 got delayed becoz sony take all the feedback in one 3000$ phone but as I said their price was the main problem so they just sold it for 1400$...Damn..!.It was soo sexy and unique with a classic taste keeping those headphone Jack, In terms of power, built and camera was sooo far ahead than anyone else

The dedicated shutter button and focus peek is something Apple should add to their Pro phones. (Also would be nice if Apple brought some of the Sony pro apps with the Sony lenses as well, but I doubt that will happen.)
What a great phone. You did a great job explaining and showing the features of this hightech device. It seems that leap from 3 to 5 are greater than from the first to the 1³. For now im thrilled since i got the Exp 1³. Its older than two years now and the battery are pretty much the same as it was when i bought the phone. Great Work.

Thanks for the video. Just bought one. The phone is amazing. Camera has a new 1inch sensor .low light photos incredible detail. Optical Zoom crystal clear. Sound for movies in Dolby Atmos on phone is incredible. Way ahead of all the "Sheep Phones"😊
Awesome review, very detailed w.r.t. Sony's strengths. How is the flashlight/torch? Does the touchscreen become unusable or start registering random keypresses in rain/shower/totally submerged? (One of the Nexus phones, 5X or 6P, was the last water resistant phone I can remember that didn't spaz out underwater.) Probably still no glove mode? (for non-touchscreen-enabled gloves) Closest focus distance in the main shooter? Also, hopefully the native alpha support goes all the way to the cheaper & older models e.g. a6000.

I love my Xperia 1V. I like the Sony photography philosophy. Do not forget the music capabilities either. This one makes for a great Smartphone. When you pull this thing out of your pocket, you really stand out in an ocean of iPhones and Samsung's. The design is straight up classy and conservative, the haptic feedback makes texting a pleasure. Watching Bravia Core content or every other content is a bliss due to this fabulous 4k Display. I was wondering how could this Sony expertise go hand in hand with the old Windows phone since they both like to stand out. Based in the old Nokia camera phones and Windows Phone paired together I think that Sony could really shine in 2013.
I bought a Sony Xperia 1V phone, but when I press to open the camera, it makes a "click" sound. Is this the case with all phones, or is my phone defective? Can you please answer?
The only thing that prevented me from picking up a Xperia 1 V was the lack of cages, add on lenses, and ability to use VND filters. I ordered one 2 days ago, arrives tomorrow. I just wish there were options like Smallrig does for the iPhone or at least a case that supports Moment's M mount or 17mm threaded lenses. Also, does the I V allow recording to external SSD?

Because it's a mobile phone and in our pocket so whenever see something, we want to take out of the pocket and capture immediately. So S23 ultra and the most of them do that. How about 1V? You know, it's ironic that both Apple and Samsung say they care about the environment, yet use such high density paper for packaging, have a ton of plastic wrapped around the phone and include a C to C (or lightning) cable that can only be used on their separately sold charger.
Sony is actually the only company that really cares about the environment. Their new box format is very great, only the printed part has plastic in it. And removing the cable is pretty fair, like you already have the cable even if you're old phone is 4 years old
About that Reels vs TikTok thing. The reason you see less creative things on Reels could be because the algorithm has chosen to show you those things for some reason. While the TikTok's algorithm chose to show you more creative stuff. And maybe they had reasons to decide that too. Just saying. I don't condone spending too much time on either.
I remember that years ago the _Sony_ (and I do not know if they were still *_Ericsson_* in the _Z3_ or which) had as an accessory a microphone that connected to the audio jack and had a cover to reduce noise in case of wind.
fabulous video as always! I haven't had a sony phone since the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, it was the last model to come to Australia and i had won it in a competiton. Since then it's been Samsung right up to the S23 Ultra currently
it cant switch to selfie camera while recording a video in the basic camera app? like you make a video and then switch to selfie in that same video, i thought the seemless zoom is only for the back cameras? :(

Someone tested it and recorded 4k 120fps for 4 hrs and no overheating.
Also the phone is 1k at PDA Plaza Canada.

Old XZ series had excellent selfies ( except xz2/xz2c).
Mark 4's chipsets were made by....Samsung. A lot of Android phones from last year suffered a similar fate.
I was able to have it overheat...in Egypt under 40 degrees Celsius and after shooting photo and video like a maniac but not ever since

the overheating wasnt really sonys fault, even the xiaomi 12 with the sd8 gen 1 overheated too

Overheating is resolved, only gets warm while charging and gaming but never overheat

Can you plug a Playstation 5 to it so you can play games on its 4k 120Hz screen as well as do screen recording/streaming?

Camera has a new 1inch sensor .low light photos incredible detail. Optical Zoom crystal clear.
Sound for movies in Dolby Atmos on phone is incredible.

How is the flashlight/torch? Does the touchscreen become unusable or start registering random keypresses in rain/shower/totally submerged? (One of the Nexus phones, 5X or 6P, was the last water resistant phone I can remember that didn't spaz out underwater.) Probably still no glove mode? (for non-touchscreen-enabled gloves) Closest focus distance in the main shooter? Also, hopefully the native alpha support goes all the way to the cheaper & older models e.g. a6000.

There are four things I would be curious to know about this Xperia 1V. 1. Is it possible to have 48MP shots? 2. Are the photos saved in JPEG or HEIC? 3. Does it support advanced RAW similar to Apple's ProRAW? 4. What color profile are the images saved in sRGB or DisplayP3?

I love my Xperia 1V. I like the Sony photography philosophy. Do not forget the music capabilities either. This one makes for a great Smartphone. When you pull this thing out of your pocket, you really stand out in an ocean of iPhones and Samsung's. The design is straight up classy and conservative, the haptic feedback makes texting a pleasure. Watching Bravia Core content or every other content is a bliss due to this fabulous 4k Display. I was wondering how could this Sony expertise go hand in hand with the old Windows phone since they both like to stand out. Based in the old Nokia camera phones and Windows Phone paired together I think that Sony could really shine in 2013.
I bought a Sony Xperia 1V phone, but when I press to open the camera, it makes a "click" sound. Is this the case with all phones, or is my phone defective? Can you please answer?

The only thing that prevented me from picking up a Xperia 1 V was the lack of cages, add on lenses, and ability to use VND filters. I ordered one 2 days ago, arrives tomorrow. I just wish there were options like Smallrig does for the iPhone or at least a case that supports Moment's M mount or 17mm threaded lenses. Also, does the I V allow recording to external SSD?
Two years software support is lacking hugely. I’ve owned them in the past but never again until the fix that. Also no compact line anymore sucks!
Isn't the 5 line up at 6'1 display and very, very narrow not compact enough ?

Because it's a mobile phone and in our pocket so whenever see something, we want to take out of the pocket and capture immediately. So S23 ultra and the most of them do that. How about 1V? Is basic or full auto mode is also great as manual mode?

you need to buy it asap, because their sales is suffering...make sure you prove your commitment, they barely sold any of their xperias
You know, it's ironic that both Apple and Samsung say they care about the environment, yet use such high density paper for packaging, have a ton of plastic wrapped around the phone and include a C to C (or lightning) cable that can only be used on their separately sold charger.
Sony is actually the only company that really cares about the environment. Their new box format is very great, only the printed part has plastic in it. And removing the cable is pretty fair, like you already have the cable even if you're old phone is 4 years old

About that Reels vs TikTok thing. The reason you see less creative things on Reels could be because the algorithm has chosen to show you those things for some reason. While the TikTok's algorithm chose to show you more creative stuff. And maybe they had reasons to decide that too. Just saying. I don't condone spending too much time on either.

I remember that years ago the _Sony_ (and I do not know if they were still *_Ericsson_* in the _Z3_ or which) had as an accessory a microphone that connected to the audio jack and had a cover to reduce noise in case of wind.

fabulous video as always! I haven't had a sony phone since the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, it was the last model to come to Australia and i had won it in a competiton. Since then it's been Samsung right up to the S23 Ultra currently
