    Had the R7 since release (didn't know at the time of purchase). Was tasked with shooting at a music festival for a dance group. So the camera had to be capable of shooting action, bright light, low light, focusing on selected subjects, groups, fast focus, and most importantly, it had to be sturdy, dust and weather resistant. Had a $2000 budget and only 2 weeks get it and get familiar with it. After only 24 hours and really only looking at numbers and specs, I settled on the R7. Purchased and waited. The day after ordering, I decided to see what other people thought about the item I had basically impulse bought. There were no reviews. I was nervous for 3 days thinking I might have just screwed myself. "Oh god, nobody likes it. It's trash. Holy crap." No, it's just brand new. Finally the reviews started rolling in from nature photographers a couple of days later and they helped put me at ease a little because I was seeing what they did with animal photos and I figured it would translate well. Well, here we are almost a year later and it's still my go to for shooting the dance team and it has become my go to for wildlife photography. It is amazing and not just for the price. Mind you, I'm still a mid-level photographer so my skills are not refined, but this thing gave me a reason to start pushing myself to be better.
    Great review and definitely something I recommend.

      Yup. New cameras too fast!! But honesty, I think I might compare it to my R6 or R6ii since its a full frame sensor as well and I want to see if you "need" the more expensive cams, or if the R8 can compare!

    Your INFO helped me finally decide that I will have R7. Especially your Low light video with 12000 ISO. I would say, 32 Megapixel is great for cropping and that is needed. I am for Wildlife & Portrait and R7 fits well in both with RF lenses like 24-105 F4 and 100-500mm lens. With APS-C I will have 160-800mm reach and with Viltrox speed booster I will use it like R6 but with higher MP with slightly low light capability. I am OK with that.

    My R7 really impresses me. MUCH sharper than I ever got out of my 7D I had before ( killer AF). MUCH better IQ and focusing than my 1D3 I had before. I still dont have new lenses, but my old 400L5.6 is like a new lens on the R7. The IBIS makes a difference even on a long lens like that. At good exposure and ISO below 3200 it does well noise wise. With Darktable noise profiles and once you understand filmicRGB etc, I am really impressed with this little Canon. And what is nice is you can mix lenses and FF or CF bodies. You can use every EF lens and now the RF too. Not bothered about RF-S. Have never owned an EF-S either. Get a 16mm and use it like a 24 on the R7 or change to an R8 for 16mm landscape.

    I own both and use the R6 for landscape and R7 for bird photography. I love both and like you wish there was a third wheel on the R7 like the R6. I had planned to be a real estate photographer and videographer but it hasn't worked out yet. One question on using a gimbal on the R6 for video? Do you use image stabilisation for video as I've seen on other Real Estate Photography RUclipsrs it's best not to. Im not to sure about this though. Both You Andrei Restrepo and Taylor Brown rock. Living the dream.

      Hey Tony! Thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear RE photo/video hasn't worked out for you, why do you think that is? What area are you based in?
      I keep the camera IS on and the IS from the 15-35 lens when I'm shooting real estate on my gimbal. Mostly because my Ronin-S still gets some jitters and the IS helps get rid of those. Lately I've been using the new DJI RS3 Mini and the stabilization is way better so honestly probably wouldn't have to use the internal IS.

    R7 is an amazing camera. Not just for the price point, but overall. I love mine, did plenty of research before I got it and I had the dough for a R6 or R5. But u less you are a pro, the R7 is the Bees Knees. And the kit lens it comes with (18-150) is an Ace lens for street photography. Canon hit this one out of the park in my experience. megapixel count does not matter at all. Even 12MP is not distinguishable from 32MP. The ONLY benefit of high megapixels is cropping.

    • @AndreiRestrepo
      @AndreiRestrepo  7 месяцев назад

      I get what you’re saying but I’d disagree, I can see the different when retouching them especially. And in so many instances I’ve found myself cropping in a bit to re adjust the composition and having the extra MP’s help. I now use the R6 mark ii which is 24, and the R5C which is 45 and both are great images. Having a high megapixel camera has also come in great for reformatting photos for headshots too. Thanks for watching!

    I came originally from the 550D/T3i and before a long time even the 400D. I upgraded in 2019 to the EOS RP which i loved for nearly 3 years. Best (stills) camera i ever had.
    As i got dedicated to wildlife and video primarily, the RP, as much i liked it and it was more than enough for the usecases (astro, general stuff, family, travel,... just EVERYTHING except video or very speedy things) was not very usable anymore, especially i missed reach with full frame and by heavy cropping with the 26MP full frame shots i lost too much details and in (4k) video it was basically useless and there was not even ANY 120 fps mode.
    With the R7 the RP got completely replaced, the most impressive thing about the R7 in my opinion, its at high ISO even as good (or better up to 6400) as the full frame RP. Thats when i sold the RP since i had anyways not enough reasons to keep 2 bodies as much i liked it. The EOS R7 did deep sky on telescope and i did with a basic tripod and the EOS RP landscape/milkyway shots the same time.

    • @AndreiRestrepo
      @AndreiRestrepo  Год назад

      Hey! I think you made the right choice, I’m still super impressed by it, and yeah, the RP is a great photo camera. It definitely has the limitations you mentioned, and it was usually my go to recommendation for people that didn’t know what Mirrorless camera to invest in for Canon. But now the R7 is definitely my choice, so comparable to even my full frame R6. Thanks for watching and giving your insight!

  • @blisteringbooks2428
    @blisteringbooks2428 Год назад

    You actually are not comparing 20 to 32, it is 20 to 83! So it may be ok if you buy new RF glass, but using older EF lenses with the adapter you may see noticeable reduction in quality because the lens just will not cope. I am working out how to get hold of an R7 to do a review using my existing lenses.

    • @AndreiRestrepo
      @AndreiRestrepo  Год назад

      Hey! Can you explain more on the R7 being 83mp vs 32mp? Thanks for watching!

    • @blisteringbooks2428
      @blisteringbooks2428 Год назад +1

      @@AndreiRestrepo the R7 is a crop sensor, if you made it full frame size it would have 83mp. As the pixels are much smaller they get less light, which is why it is more prone to noise. Only many EF lenses lack the resolution needed. I have a Canon 70-300 DO which resolves 10mp, so using it with the R7 means it will look rubbish. I have noticed that using one of my Sigma lenses on a 5D3 and a 7D2, the crop sensor image is visibly softer. I am tempted by the R7, only using crop mode on the R5 I get the same image, only with 17mp. Plenty in most cases, especially if viewed on a monitor or posted on the web.

    • @AndreiRestrepo
      @AndreiRestrepo  8 месяцев назад

      Depends! Having used both + r6ii now, the r6 never overheated on me even for talking heads interview in 4k24. And the r6ii which is my second camera now, never overheats either. It worked well for me shooting in 4k60 since I can shoot for a good while just doing short clips for real estate work. But I'd still now lean to the r6ii. What I said about the r6ii was a bit premature and now it's pretty close to a near perfect hybrid camera. I use that with the R5C too now!

    7:15 Guy don't have even a clue what he is talking about. 32 mpx sensor in R7 is way more demanding from lenses than 20 mpx in R6. So you can put quite cheap optics from EF like 85 1.8, 135 F2 or even 55-250 zoom and it will perform well. What happens if you put them on R7? They won't be sharp. Also you will see tons of chromatic abberation. I had sell my EF 70-200 2.8 and buy RF 70-200 F4 because EF was softer than on 7d2 (20 mpx!) and had CA almost everywhere. So - you have funds for the best new RF optics? Sure, buy R7. If not R6 will be better option.

      I had 7d2 and now I have R7. For me it was a DOWNGRADE. EF lenses on such demanding sensor aren't as sharp as on 7d2 were, so I had to buy RF lenses. Electronic shutter has got huge issue with rolling shutter, and mechanical shutter jamms in my R7 randomly on 15 FPS mode. Also indoors you can get epilepsy through viewfinder. Of course you can turn on antiflicker mode, but after that say goodbye to wifi mode... Build quality in comparison to 7d2 is also a big downgrade, R7 is like plasticky toy. So if you really want mirrorless go to R6/R5 (they have also issues like rolling shutter, but lower density of theirs sensors won't kill your older lenses). About lenses - currently I use EF16-35 F4 L and RF 70-200 F4 L - they are sharp enough for R7, but EF16-35 2.8 L, EF 70-200 2.8 non IS and EF 135 F2 L were pretty poor on that sensor.
