- Battlefield has gone through somewhat of a rough phase over the years. Following the disastrous launch (and troubled development) of Battlefield 2042, the publisher announced a new multi-studio approach for the franchise.
However, a severe lack of announcements and the recent closure of Ridgeline Games after the mysterious departure of its head, Marcus Lehto, casts further doubt on the franchise. Is there a plan for the future, or is the series doomed?
Any game studio that responds to fans feedback with "if you don't like our game don't buy it" doesn't deserve to exist.
And yet they persist. Crazy…

For me BF4 was the last "true" Battlefield. I spent so many hours playing Battlefield so the downfall of this franchise does hurt. But i guess that is how it goes when a company gets too greedy and does not care about delivering quality anymore. Such a shame. I will never buy games from EA, Activision, Ubisoft etc. (you get the picture) again...

Battlefield 4 to this day is still my most played game of all time. I loved BF1 as well. The franchise died to me as soon as I saw the BFV trailer.

Exactly. As a very loyal BF player since BF2, I knew things were so f’d up as soon as BF5 was revealed. I still hoped I was wrong but sadly, you know the rest. Been playing COD since.

You can thank the parents of today's children buying them every mediocre game that comes out, brainwashing the kids into thinking those games are good having never experienced a decent game in their life. That's why these studios keep pushing out half baked, microtransaction flooded dumpster fires because that's the majority of their playerbase's experience over their lifespan. I've seen it in my own family, my little cousin plays nothing but Fortnite and he's got like a thousand skins which idek how much that calculates to in terms of money. I try to show him other games I played as a kid or even some decent games from the past few years but his attention span just can't handle it.
It's fucking SAD, people. We're a vocal minority that's being left and forgotten.

It wasn't smart to release Battlefield 1 after BF 4.
All they had to do was follow the blueprint of Bad Company 2, BF3, etc and just change locations. Fans were clamoring for Bad Company 3. But what does Ea do? Ruin it all with BF5/2042.

pre ordering bf2042 was the worst decision in gaming i ever took, did not even get any refund even though most of my hours were spent merely finding lobbies which at times took more than half an hour..
Same here, I bought into the hype and got the $100 version and as a result I haven't pre-ordered ever since and I haven't touched 2042 in over a year

Uhhh what did you even see in that game? If you pre ordered it before the beta came out, then I can somewhat understand, but if you played the beta and decided "yup this is it", then you get zero sympathy
I was super hyped when bf 2042 trailer dropped way back in 2021. I thought that they would return to the classic bf3 and bf4. Sadly they went for the boring hero/specialist shooter system that I’m so sick of. Besides also having all those issues when it was released. I’m not going to get for another one until it delivers all expectations, which I doubt.
EA has to be one of, if not the dumbest gaming companies. They ruined an incredible franchise. It's not hard to figure out what the fans want if you listen to them. They've been asking for bad company 3 for over a decade. Bad company 2 was the best shooter I have ever played, and it sold well. If not a part 3, at least use the gameplay and physics. Campaign was fun too
The people who made bad company great are long gone. We'll never get a proper Bad Company again.

I remember an interview with a higher up a dice, I'm paraphrasing because its been so long, but he basically said "We don't know what about bad company 2 made it great" since then I knew they lost the plot

Can't believe they stopped support for Battlefront 2 because of this series and they ended up screwing that up as well😢
The saddest part is once they fixed the mtx bullshit the game was really good. As it stand now it's a fantastic game, it just needed the bugs fixed and the extra characters and maps.

To me, DICE was amazing in the 2000s and up through the mid-2010s. All good game developers will become bad eventually, one way or another. I lump DICE with BioWare, Blizzard, etc. They were fantastic up until a certain time.
I still fondly remember the days of Battlefield 3 pushing the boundaries of FPS games.
I would to see a remake of Bad Company 1&2 like how Activision is doing with the Modern Warfare series. Give us that with a few new maps and weapons and I'll be happy

I like bf4 but half the time the servers lie about player count. It will say 60 players but only have 20

I'm still on it on XBOX. Only thing that sucks is the community. You get into a good server and people either kick you out for some bs reason, or people in queue try to invite you to a party to pull you from the game so that they can get in. It was never this toxic back in the day.
I switched to xbox s and it was the worst mistake, bf4 on ps4 was very much alive. Xbox on the other hand, maybe 3 US servers for me in Aus it's dead for Oceania.
At this point, they havent been listening to the player base for years. Im old enough to remember when bf5 was considered a dud, then this newest turd came along. Bring back premium, 4 maps per dlc, 64 players, server browser, and weapons weapons weapons.

I kinda disagree, I don't think this situation started with bf 42, but even prior, with bf V. One can argument that is had begun even farther in the past woth battlefront 2.
I feel like if there were realistic soldiers instead of the dumb "specialists" and also weapons that actually exists the game mightve done better at least for me. immersion was half my fun for me and seeing clones of same 3 characters both on my side and the enemy side looks dumb and immersion breaking. plus the dumb light hearted dialog the characters say was super cringe......"ah we've lost, that's ok we will get them next time" the game should've been rated T cause they all talk like middle school special Ed teachers

It blows my mind how they went from peak BF4 (when it got fixed) and Battlefield 1, to the garbage launch of BFV. Then when they're finally turning BFV around and making it decent, they drop support for it with very little post launch content.
I had extremely low expectations for 2042 and once the beta dropped, that was confirmation that Battlefield is now dead.

The Battlefield franchise is dead. For all you people waiting for the next Battlefield, be prepared to be disappointed again like it happened with 2042. The original Battlefield developers left DICE, and now there's a bunch of incompetent developers at DICE without knowledge on what made Battlefield games special.

DICE needs to get back to making epic single player games like Mirror's Edge. I would love to see another sequel for that.
I have bought every battlefield since BF1942... yes I'm old 😅 but I didn't buy BF5 or 2042 as I could see the writing on the wall for my beloved franchise. We all need to vote with our wallets and avoid pre-orders for all games not just BF. Its the only way these greedy publishers will ever learn.

Battlefield v refuses to work on my computer but every other battlefield and battlefront works. I have no clue what the problem is but before anyone says “maybe your isn’t good enough to play it” I’m a game designer and I basically have beast of a pc so it’s not that.
Personal fav EA moment was the "Don't talk about cheating" and here we are three games later and they bring in kernel level anti-cheat. Guess that ignore the consumer strat really worked out.

My friends list was almost entirely Battlefield players for BF4 and BF1. None of them are playing 2042. Sad to see a great franchise in its death throes.

The last Battlefield game that i actually purchased was Battlefield 1 back when i was a PS4 player and even that didn't hold my interest. Battlefield 4 was sorta Battlefield Hardline that i actually had any real desire to play the franchise in any meaningful way. Fast-forward 8 years later and now im on PC, I own BF1-5 ("Free" from Twitch prime) and i have just no desire to play the franchise, Even the squad that i played with back then who i still play with now have 0 desire to play them.

The conversation about deadlines and investors needs to be addressed in the gaming industry. Major developers lost their edge years ago and everyone knows it. They’re all failing miserably. Also, Studios are taking the wrong approach to their games, not giving AF about the community/consumers.
It’s all about money now…not about passion. It’s sad, really. Gaming isn’t what it used to be.

I stopped playing bf2042 completely, until last weekend. I gotta say, I’ve been having such a great time.
Only downside is no one using communication and STILL no scoreboard.
I was there day 1 for BF2042, and I’m still in there with them.
It started off horrendously for a while. But I must say, it’s in a WAY better state right now.

Anyone remember bf 2142? Battlefield 2 the one released on pc in 2006 was the most ellite game, course along with bf Vietnam listening to the absolute monster of a soundtrack with the boys.

battlefield 4 was and still is my favorite battlefield bc not only did it have a great multiplayer, it had a great campaign as well, when bf1 came out, i got it and i enjoyed it but they changed how the campaign was and made it into those stories, it was alright but they continued it into V and then with 2042 with no campaign it seems after hardline came out (ive never played it but i think it has a full campaign) that they started progressively making campaigns less and less prominent until they just ceased to be in battlefield at all, and 2042 couldve had a great campaign but they had a huge missed opportunity with that, and seeing as how bf3 and bf4 were connected, it made them such better games especially when youve been with the series for a while and seeing recurring characters and stories connecting, it just made them such great games, bf3 had an amazing campaign and seeing it connect to bf4 was such an experience and i feel like when they swapped to stories it really made the games less and less engaging, dont get me wrong i enjoyed the stories of bf1 and bfV especially the multiplayer but it was different and i get its bc its set in ww1 and ww2 so thats why it has the stories to make it known what was happening around the world at the time, they couldve just had a main campaign that changed at points to highlight those events like in cod world at war with the interchanging stories between japan and ussr, instead of having shorter stories bc it was less engaging, just get this done and the story was basically over with, especially with v, it had like 4 stories i think and they felt so short i get them done so quick it didnt feel as fun or engaging as lets say bf4 which had a main campaign but was the same length as the stories combined of bfV, it was more engaging alltogether and it had more life to it, it felt better to play. with 2042 being solely multiplayer theres a bunch of lore that doesnt make any sense like on the load screens at the bottom theres text and quotes from characters and theres little bits of lore that dont necesarilly make sense bc theres nothing to bring it all together and with there not being a campaign, it makes it worse bc it was a huge missed opportunity and its just proving how the games are deteriorating.
Battlefield needs to come on unreal engine 5 and everything will be fixed
2042 deserves no credit they should have seen how they fd up and just moved on to make a better battle field not update that garbage
guys..........Battlefield does not need a campaign.....it just needs a well designed map selection with 64 players, featuring the classic/modern day weaponry. Look at OG Battlefield 2 and Battlebit and just remake that in your snazzy engine. Monetise the crap out of it with COSMETICS ONLY and there. You're officially printing money and saved the franchise. One you make the pew pew guns feels great and the map design fun as they were before with a good stable fps then you're done. STOP over complicating it.
I'd rather they just sell the single player part separately for those who want it, personally 95% of modern day shooters single player is generic as hell slop with poor ai, I would buy a bad company sequel tho.

I don't like the new Haven map in Conquest at all, because it's worst sniper map of any map.
It's not funny when 20 people on opponent team is snipers, because they have no balls for combat. If they didn't suck at playing BF, they wouldn't snipe.

4, 1, 5 or Hardline but Hardline might not have as many players
@@305backupI love hardline yeah sure it's bit of "Call of Duty" and not like proper authentic Battlefield 3 & 4 experience but the game is fun. Weapons are balanced especially after the latest updates, online connections are pretty good I rarely ever got lag or even kicked out of game. Maps are decent.

Bf2 was peak. Other ones are to much flashy explosions and horrible killcam and scope glares and in general to fast paced. Not to mention all the shenanigans EA/Dice did last several years.
Hitboxes are horrible. You run behind a wall to a corner and you still get killed😂. Air vehicles are also not snappy. I miss bf2 helis and plane control.
I'm just old and don't have the reflex anymore for shooters, i'm happy with red read redemption scenery and fishing😂

Imagine a battlefield game set during the Napoleonic Wars. It sounds unique and different but they would probably fuck it up….
Answer: monitization chacanery, it has a identity crisis, it's a live service, releases are in a beta state at best, devs and publishers don't care to even try to deliver what their customers actually want in a BF product.
So franchise is in crap state. All there is to it.
BF fans could turn this thing around if the dev and publishers would just consider what fans want out of BF, but instead, more often than not , fans are attacked instead. Which is a weird new trend among devs and publishers considering their jobs depend on those same people buying their product?! But... can't fix obtuseness.
BF will always be around, as long as they don't alienate players. EA knows now that fans won't support much change to the squad based format.
DICE has consistently proven they have lost the plot. Every Battlefield after Bad Company 2 released with the same problems that were present in the launch of their predecessors. These problems took the entire life cycle of the game to finally be corrected. Then the next one would release with the same problem. It was like groundhog day. Then with decades of experience, player feedback and data on what players wanted, what they didn't want, and what would keep them coming back, they decided that regardless of any or all of the previous data and feedback, there was only one way to correct course.
Forget what Battlefield was and turn it into a hero shooter. Not all of these brain dead design problems and hard learned lessons can be aimed at EA and demands on budget and schedule. I have no faith in the franchise anymore.

BF-2 was the ultimate. It's what Bf3 and 4 want to be.
All they need to do is make battlefield 1 graphics with battlefield v gameplay with extra destruction and more ambience on air strikes and atmosphere boom. Done.
I bought BF2042 for $8 I still think it is nothing to likes of era of BFBC2, BF3, BF4. BF1 was last one I recall having fun playing with friends. I be damn I pay $70 for online multiplayer only game.

At this point no matter what they do everyone will and those RUclipsrs will find something to complain about and drag the developers down. They are trying but people just wanna hold grudges. Look at Battlefront 2. Turned into a great game. DICE did an amazing job after EA stopped being EA, but EA still killed it later obviously. But people still held a grudge and never played or picked it back up after that launch. People will never just be happy for once.

I've had great matches on it and other times my team is always stopped at our main spawn can't even push from the US side or the Russian side. The matches would end super fast with the enemy having close to 1000 tickets left.

BF1, BF7, the ominous BF6 or BF 2042?
They had to speed up the gunplay in 2042 so the cod players would buy the game and buy skins, the game died and they only got a few devs putting out 1.5 maps and few guns every now and then just to string along the the fans still playing.
AAA companies are now suffering from the years of their negligent developer/publisher management and poor handling of customer base
and shareholders thinking that developers are their milking cows and gaming industry as a whole and recent emergence of Identity politics in video games
though was learning from their mistake with their success of the remake of Dead space but they are little to late

BF is trying SO HARD to be CoD its sickening i get it they are both a FPS but each are unique and the fact that DICE kept taking elements from CoD games like out of place PCs to making them "specialists" the firestorm game mode it seems like they are more focused on attracting CoD players than making another real BF game

the SCAR rifle in real life has a non reciprocating charging handle. The one in BF4 moves with every shot. This looks cool but is inaccurate. They need to get these guns right. Gun nuts notice this stuff
The initial Version of the SCAR did have a reciprocating charging handle. Which is probably the main reason this gun wasn't more popular when it first came out. Only later on did they release a version with a non-rec charging handle.

My favorite FPS has definitely gone down hill. All people want is Bad Company 3. They know that but refuse to acknowledge it. At this point they probably would screw it up.
No they said they didn't know what made Bad Company so good, so instead of just trying to make it and see how we like it, they decided to make a game we would definitely hate. Genius decision making over there at DICE
Regardless the problems that s7 brought aiming issues etc I haven't had that much of a fun since hardline. I know the map isn't perfect but by far the best in this game
