Grab your coffee and get cozy - it's time for another storytime video! We're going to look at how EA shot themselves in the foot with Battlefield 5 despite how GOOD the game ended up being. I Started the battlefeild franchise playing Bad Co 1 on PS3, and looked thousands of hours between BF3,4 and 1. I've not purchased any entries in the series since because the CEO told me not to buy it if I didn't like it. I Don't intend on changing that any time soon.
Simple answer I give every time, don't do a period game if you don't want to be consistent with the period. Also, if you want WW2, but not, do alt history or preferable dieselpunk been dying for someone to do that or steampunk battlefield, or at least a new bad company, or 2142, or hell bf hero's 2, just something I liked long ago, and all of those could have whatever customization you want.
Hating on BF5 was also kinda justified cause of the response of the devs to people pointing out DICE was claiming the game was portraying historical accuracy, whilst having weird shit like female soldiers with prostatic arms in the trailer and redconning male characters out of real stories replacing them with women kek. And then DICE said: "If you don't like it, don't buy it" and we did lmao Buuuut, I do fully agree that BF5 was basically BF1, but with many improvements and the game honestly was really solid and didn't deserve the hate! Sadly the devs just decided to go on a culture war campaign when they should've just focused on making a fucking enjoyable videogame and keep modern politics out of it as much as possible. And if you really want women in the game, but also want to claim historical accuracy, then do what BF1 did and basically add them with the Russians who did in fact have female frontline soldiers(snipers for example). The gameplay was and is solid, it failed because of the politicization of the video games imho.
I honestly think they missed an opportunity to highlight the Winter War between Finland & Russia alongside the Austro-Hungarian resistance (besides having the German Campaign, which many players approved of) regarding the unknown history that showcases the German Question during WW2. Imagine they had created a battlefield at Itter Castle in 45.
imagine if the Eastern front update would also have maps where the Soviets are fighting the Western Allies in a what-if scenario of Operation Unthinkable being carried out
My fondest memory of BFV was being some random's Sherman front machinegunner and switching to the top machine gun to keep the enemy at bay, while the tank went under emergency repairs Felt like a kick to the shins that they ended support right as BFV was beginning to pick itself back up
Agreed, the trend-chasing and wasting resources on it was a shame, but ngl we did not need another game giving us Saving Private Ryan for the millionth time
@@ramblingrenegade6346Omaha wasn't the only landing at Normandy, you know. We could have gotten Sword, Gold or Utah beach. Heck, could have gotten the bridges mission with the brits
@@georgewhitworth9742 true, but realistically which one would they go with? If you want a game that covers the various D-Day landings Easy Red 2's Overlord campaign does a fantastic job
But realisticly Omaha would be the only one where you get that epic BF style battle as other beaches were comparatively lightly defended. Maybe point du hoc if they wanted something less known (also d-day but more special force style) @@georgewhitworth9742
I'm gonna be honest, if EA revived support for BF5 or atleast announced they would add a soviet expansion and add new maps for US v Germany some of my ill will towards EA will disappear
I’ll always be sad that battlefield v and battlefront 2 were killed off for 2042. For battlefield v we could have had the Barbarossa and some of the Russian guns and the t34. I loved the soldier customisation and being able to have my character have certain coats, pants and headgear especially for the different factions.
Exactly, with the Pacific update it finally took off from it's rocky start and shortly after EA left it in the dirt. And the gunplay was just phenomenal, everything about it felt satisfying.
Only issue was the original Brit/German uniforms were chock full of ahistoric nonsense, it took until the game was about to be trashed for them to give us two actually historical uniforms (kraut helmet still fked up), but Pacific was pretty solid.
The goofy old guy with the coat and beard got annoying to look at and threw things off more than the other skins, more than the female operators complained about IMO, who looked barely different in uniform.
@@glennpruess6936 wouldn’t surprise me truly a lot of games were killed off or stopped getting big updates for 2042 and it’s still not as fun as those were especially I loved bf2 when they finally got the good updates with clone wars stuff
Everybody wants an option to put women in a ww2 game because its "technically" historical but nobody wants to put child soldiers in their game which is also technically historical
It was such a shame that EA killed this game off after the Pacific update. It felt like Battlefield game then, but they wanted to focus on 2042, and even still with the extra time they messed up big. They could have done a lot more amazing things to the game.
Yeah, I like to imagine what an Eastern Front update would've been like, I can imagine it would've been great, especially with the good amount of tanks and aircraft the Soviets would've brought to the game would've great, and the weapons as well, and it was all ruined because of 2042
@@adenkeys4943 It would make actual sense for the women, but they had a track record of rewriting history where it didn't need it and ignoring actual diversity.
Yeah but its kinda part of the problem they rushed it and then they took a while to fix 2042 its fun and liked to play it but it was buggy and different from other battlefield games which is why i think alot of people don't like it@@supernotnatural
As a military historian, I REFUSE to do business with a game dev that calls me "uneducated" when I call him out on his atrocious historical inaccuracies.
@@Wub_Sniffz seriously when has anyone ever heard a girl say "i love the idea of playing WWII games, but I don't play them because i can't be a woman." or "I feel underrepresented in the historical setting of be drafted as a young man and having my friends blown up beside me"
Agreed, it was very refreshing to see all sides represented. Also the fact that it humanized the German soldiers for once instead of showing them all as mindless drones puppeted by the Nazis. It helps to paint a more touching picture of how tragic war really is.
@Natediggetydog Something that BF1 dropped the ball on. The fact we didn't get ONE central powers campaign but we get to play as a self flagellating nazi was disgusting to me.
@@loserinasuit7880 you mean to tell me that anyone in their right mind *wouldnt* have been ashamed of what their nation was doing in that situation? The lack of any central powers perspective in bf1 did suck though.
@Natediggetydog What I'm saying is that it was extremely lazy for an Axis story that was an easy way out. Of course everyone wants to play as the Nazi who felt bad because they don't have the balls to go all in on a soldier excited for war during 1939 or portray Axis Finland, or the Middle East, or the Japanese. I don't think they even bothered with a Chinese story, if they wanted the honorable wermacht German then they could have done a tank crew in North Africa under Rommels command. But instead we get the laziest Axis story possible that people think is deep because the German is basically Allied propoganda 80 years after the war ended.
I was REALLY hoping we would see a Russian side to the factions and some battlefields like Stalingrad, Kursk, Ural Mountains and the Baltics. If EA and DICE were focused on delivering a good game like they did with BF1, imagine how many more expansions we could've had.
Ngl since they were so adamant about showing the "untold" battles, it would've been brilliant to see the Winter War or maybe even the Battle of Budapest instead of just seeing Stalingrad or Kursk for the upteenth time
It literally feels like that was the intention. If it wasnt, its almost like the Soviets didnt exist in the battlefield universe. To me it seems like the russian/Soviet DLC was gonna happen, but they scraped it and gave up on the game completely.
To anyone that’s still playing bfv. PLEASE try this at least once it’s such a vibe. Spawn in as a tiger tank and play the WaW Russian theme. It goes astronomically hard trust
@spartannoah I agree 1000%. I still play a few nights a week and on weekends. I think bfv is the best one with the movement and destruction it has. Plus the plane mechanics just make bfv all around a great game. I'm lost on why so many jumped on the hate train
Mine too mate. Still playing it. I cannot understand the hate. The game is extremely fun, visually stunning with high attention to detail still not found in any modern game. I think that they should make firestorm free to play.
Gameplay wise I love Battlefield 5 it is incredible fun, I will say that Battlefield 1's aesthetic is my favorite though, I love the grim atmosphere of the game, mostly because it accurately describes WWI. But both game's overall are my favorite Battlefields, it may show my age but Battlefield 1 was really the first Battlefield I ever played so I do have some bias toward it and Battlefield 5, but I also like history and historical games were the only thing I played during that time so they were perfect for me to enjoy
yeah, it would have been so easy to just make the same game as BF1, just with new maps, weapons and gimmicks like building trenches and towing cannos. that's it. nope gotta redo everything while recycling half the guns from BF1.... just disgrace
i dont think people were like that during the first 6 months of BF1, the random bullet deviation, the fact vehicles are selectable in roles meaning teams could have only artillery trucks and no tank pushes, conquest wasn't ticket based just Large Domination maps got everyone angry, there was a lot people still dont like about the gameplay to this day. Still it was an amazing game and grand operations is if not one of the greatest additions to the Battlefield series with the narrative of soldiers during the loding screen, the officer speaking out in the briefings to the female historian summarizing things that happened in history and speculation if the historically defeated team won instead, there was so much right with BF1 DICE deserved the recognition they did and making millions of people interested in WW1 despite BF1's gameplay wasn't really historically accurate just going by the rule of fun.
One thing that Bf5 is missing is a teambalencer. Every single time you join a new server and look in at the enemy team and seeing a a lot of highlevels and then you look in your team in which are the most low level players. That makes the most rounds in this game copletely unplayable and destroys the fun in most cases sadly. A teambalencer can fix this issue and makes rounds more fun to play because both sites are balanced with skilled players and makes the game more unpredictable and thrilling at the same time.
The animations for 5 was the best they’ve made in all battlefields, from the entering and exiting of vehicles to the squad revives and even the tuck and roll feature to negate fall damage. I mained recon and it was so incredibly satisfying to snipe the heads of people just about to enter vehicles or just about to revive a downed squad mate. Oh and the numerous styles of takedown animations as well. I have 2.5k hours in this game and although I don’t play as much I still hop on and play more than any other game at the moment.
The movement system in general . I transitioned from BF4 only recently and gosh it is so smooth compared to what we had before. I wish we had more game modes now than just conquest. Outpost is very fun and I think Rush may be also cool.
@@kevy0307 The only unique melee animations from BFV are the supine animations because that was a unqiue thing inBFV that did not exist in BF1, all the other takedown animations for knife, blade, blunt, and bayonet weapons are the same across both titles.
"WW2 Battlefield" without mentioning the Russians, but with Japanese girls on the German team crouch sliding across Norwegian mountains with golden post-war French weapons, fighting against black Brits in clown facepaint... yeah BFV was "great"
@@planetdrull1701 If your list is limited to it and 2042 then such crying of your's make sense. In reality? 1942, Vietnam, 2, 2142, BC1, BC2, 3, 4, 1943 and 1 are all better games from the series. V is literally on the bottom, with likes of Hardline and 2042 simply being beneath bottom.
@@ReichLife I never played 2042, but man, you’ve got some poor taste in games. If you want to be a dedicated fanboy to “the good games” just go play those instead of arguing with me.
The only real bad things about this game was the horrible PR and marketing prior to release, and the lack of maps and factions at release. As an FPS, however, it was one of the best games I have played in the 2010s cause it was mechanically and gameplay-wise a near flawless game. The Pacific content seemed like a huge step up so I was actually excited to see what future content they would release, and when I saw that a Russian LMG was datamined I was excited for a potential Eastern Front update. Huge lost opportunity right there EA/Dice, BFV actually would have had a decent redemption arc. I still play it from time to time on my XBox, but like BF1 it doesn't have the same magic it used to (Understandably, it is half a decade old already).
BFV did some good things but I'm not a fan of the ninja soldiers which have only ramped up since bf3. Infantry increasingly feel very liquid, every soldier is a greased up parkour expert and so to compensate there's a plethora of fully and semi auto weapons. Also when you make a WW2 shooter it's always important to make every faction *feel* different. It adds so much complexity. But besides vehicle's and voice lines, all factions play the same. When everyone has access to the same weapons, you have to balance everything into boring mediocrity. But if you allow limited numbers of powerful machine gunners and such, it creates a far more diverse game.
@@327legoman Unfortunately the type of game you want cannot be found in Battlefield, at least not in 1 and V (never played the others). Games closest I can think of that you are describing are Hell Let Loose, and the World War I games by BlackMill (Verdun, Tannenberg, Isonzo). I can only speak for those cause I have played them in the past, Post Scriptum also came to mind but I never played it nor did I watch enough videos for a good grasp of gameplay.
@@EJ_Red well I feel the older titled wear a nice balance between arcade and milsim. The titled you're mentioning are all milsim. Red orchestra 2 was the closest in my mind in bridging the gap between milsim and arcade in more 'recent' times, though even now that game is majorly outdated and has a very small player count. You can have interesting asymmetrical gameplay and non-ADHD-ChildOnSmarties pace without being a milsim.
@@327legoman Problem is that the type of Battlefield you want will never come back because of the type of players it attracted when gaming became mainstream as a hobby. People like flashy and action-packed gameplay so EA/Dice capitalized on that and threw MilSim out the window. And it will likely stay that way until there is a shift in both the company and the playerbase. Or even the AAA industry as a whole.
I'm saying, like from the original cod stalingrad sewers as a map for the russian front would have been a much more appropriate map than the metro map we got
I agree, Bad Company 2 was such a wonderfully fun game to play, great maps and vehicles, with gameplay instead of cosmetic BS being being the primary focus of EA. I haven’t been impressed with a Battlefield game since BF 4, which was the last title before they just tried to sex up their game’s with unnecessary bloat. I didn’t find BF 1 much fun or BF 5. Never even bothered with 2042. EA/Dice should look at Hell Let Loose and Squad as inspiration for future releases.
I'll never say it is one of the best - not even close. BUT the game is pretty fun nowadays. It was rushed and EA killed it themselves by delivering an incomplete game, insulting the fanbase, and not releasing timely DLC.
I’ve been playing V again and loving it. Coming back to all my gold guns, maxed vehicles and knowing all the maps and the flow, it’s been like slipping on an old pair of comfy shoes.
I loved all the small details in Bf5 and physicality like with the revives not just being you electrocuting the air above the down soldier like in past battlefields but actually getting down and jabbing a needle into their arm.
As someone who was defending the game from the beginning, I honestly felt like I was stabbed in the back when they cut support for it, I was so excited for what they had in store next and then all of that potential was thrown into the trash because they needed more hands on a game that EA didn’t even know what they wanted to do with yet. Whenever I play bfv it always pains me that I’m playing what is practically an unfinished game. There is no eastern front, there is no D-Day, no Market Garden, no Stalingrad or Kiev. there aren’t any t-34’s, KV1’s and 2’s, no Panther’s or king tigers, all of these things that people would LOVE to have in a battlefield never got to see the light of day. There was *so* much potential this game had once it was on the right track, and as a community we absolutely dropped the ball with treating it like it was the worst thing ever. Hell, the fortification mechanic is still one of my favorite things in a battlefield game, the movement is by far the best in the series, it had so many things going for it, and bad decisions from higher ups in EA, and the community that abandoned it are at fault, it really sucks to see how this game will never get to see its full potential.
I only ever played the beta but building was the main thing I liked and mostly dropped out because it felt that they were making bad decisions, also one of reason I got into monster hunter
When I first played the Beta, I thought it was alright. Then I played it at launch, and it wasn’t me. I wasn’t used to the movement, the limited vehicle ammo, so I only played to level 22. After being away for like 2-3 years, I gave it another try, and now it’s one of the only games I play, level 330, and now prefer the bandage and limited vehicle ammo systems.
BF2 with the Project Reality mod was the peak of the series for me. I bought BF3, played about 10 hours, then went back to PR for a while but it had lost a lot of players to the new hotness. It was soon hard to get full games on the AU/NZ servers, so it became a 'Saturday Night' game, and then eventually just died out. Always regretted my BF3 purchase, and I was done with the series after that.
Somewhat similar experience for me. BF2/BF2142 were peak Battlefield games, Bad Company 2 was overall better even shooter though lacking in series spirit. But then came BF3... Biggest disappointment I ever had in gaming. Didn't bother with any title from series afterwards.
I’m still upset about the lack of maps, and lack of American vehicles. All we get is a Sherman or Greyhound (and for some reason we’re lend-leasing from the British with the Valentine AA). No Pershing, no Wolverine, no Hellcat? What the heck EA?
A lot was planned for the game before it was cut. Idk about the vehicles, but there were plans to add the M1903A3 Springfield into the game as well as the Type 44 Arisaka.
The thing for me is that when EA said, "Don't like it don't buy it," and proceeded to generalize the entire audience that had gripes with the marketing, of which a majority had actual legitimate complaints and concerns, I decided to take it to heart and while I enjoy watching BFV from time to time on your channel and it seems like a decent product, I will NEVER touch it for the previously mentioned statement. It would have to go for $1 with all the extra content before I'd consider it. It's ironic to me that the BR mode was called "Firestorm" and then flopped given the games reception.
Same here. I ignored the historical inaccuracies in BF1 on the basis that they were mostly small and usually just to make the game more fun. After seeing the woman with the bionic arm in the BFV trailer and then what that EA guy said, I decided against buying it.
I agree my biggest problem with the game was how they kept changing the weapon balance on me. I have recently come back to the game and I have been having a great time. One thing I really appreciate as a mainly infantry player is the difference between strategic and tactical conquest, so I can pick whether or not I want to get fisted by vehicles.
I mainly hated how inaccurate and inauthentic the game was, replacing real men that gave their lives in the war with fictional women or totally inaccurate settings, weapons, uniforms and people is just infuriating.
I'll give my take, I started with battlefield 2, with people telling me how battlefield Vietnam was simulator level difficulty when flying helicopters. Bf2 did have a great feel for the helicopters and jets, but the weapons on the helicopters and everything else seemed very nurfed. Eventually people cried about the AA missiles not doing hitting and they patched the game to have AA missiles never miss, literally orbiting jets until they hit. The broke the game with patches and then years later bf3 comes out and seemingly made the jets useless and even more arcade like for flying. Bf3 seemed like a down grade in respects to how simple the game was. Then bf4 quickly came out with an even more simplified ui and gameplay. They added destruction of buildings but made it seem super simplified and lacking almost all the stuff bf2 had. Overall the entire series is lost. Bad company 2 seemed better in some respects but with smaller levels.
The title seems wrong to me because ea just launched a unfinished game so they never had a chance to kill it. They eventually fixed the game but it was a bit too late so they never actually killed the game
I still actively play BFV (Albeit custom servers) but I never really had an issue with it. The map design wasn't blowing me away like 1 did, and it definitely felt like a step backwards in terms of the cinematic battles BF1 had. But in terms of the movement, animations and visuals, I really like BFV.
I agree about the map design. Some base game maps like Rotterdam were enjoyable, but some of the post launch North Africa and Pacific maps are borderline unplayable. I've always been enraged by people liking the remastered and original pacific maps because DICE should not be congratulated for HORRIBLE map design.
Of all the missed opportunities of BFV, in my opinion, the biggest missed opportunity is not having a campaign focused on planes. Just imagine how cool it would have been to have a COD WAW black cats style mission with a b-17, or just flying a bf 109 like in the short intro campaign for BFV.
I bought this game in July for $5. It's fun and better than I expected. The only thing I don't like is that the starting weapon kits in multiplayer are not accurate to the corresponding factions.
That might've been cool. Never thought about it. Like each faction has their own starting primary that corresponds to their military, but then at like class level 3 or 5 you can equip guns from other factions. I could get behind that
everyone dogs BFV for the missed potential bc they didn’t add the eastern front among a few other more minor things i was late into the cycle when i started playing it so i just took it for what it was at the time. i’ve been playing battlefields since Bad Company and BFV is my favorite by far. it could have for sure been better but i still have so much fun playing it to this day.
Referencing the Title here "You mean like Battlefront 2 how when it finally started to earn some good will back it was cut off in favor of Bugfield 2042
truthfully I think a lot of the reason support was cut was because of the backlash and hate EA and DICE got. I mean put yourself in their shoes, would you want to continue throwing money and dev time at a game that is getting so much hate after you spent so much time trying to fix it and make it better? I sure wouldn't. I think that if the community didnt throw shade so much and actually appreciated the game and what it did right instead of focusing so much on the negative, it would have been a totally different story.
@@stevenzwiesler5104 Is this what they call gaslighting? It is isn't it... You're turning the situation around: it's EA/Dice that f*cked up, not the player base. The string of poor decisions started before the game released and continued up till the point they shut development down.
@@stevenzwiesler5104 No EA at Drop Deserved all of the Hate with the Pay2Win and Lootcrates so bad they got them BANNED in several countries. EA got stuck on that hate for their greed and killed the game out of spite cause players were returning after the Clone Wars Content started to come out
@@damiangaming5696 bruh im talking about BFV, not battlefront 2. at most, BF2 currently needs an anti-cheat that actually works and a massive hero re-balance considering heroes have been unbalanced since launch. BF2 deserved every bit of hate it got at launch I agree with that statement, but my comment was meant about BFV.
BF5 at launch was a bad game, between no content and the respawn bug. It took a year for the tank customization to come out, EA messing with the TTK not once but twice even after the community told them to knock it off it's fine, But BF5 currently is a good game, with the call ins, the solider customization and the fortification system. All things I'd like to see in the next BF along with tank customization. I want destruction, nothing flashy like with hurricanes, no operators, and no Battle royal 3rd time wont be the charm, just make a good BF game.
I have over 800 hours in this game. Easily my favorite battlefield game. One disagreement I have with your take is I loved the war of attrition that existed at the beginning of the games life cycle. It made fights more intense in the same way the tank and plane fights were when it came to ammo counts.
I loved the attrition system. It made support and medic players feel useful. I loved how support players could build things other classes couldnt or how you NEEDED a medic in order to last for extended periods of time. Also, it's criminal that crouch sprint didn't make a comeback in 2042.
I'm so glad you brought up the sweeping changes to TTK and gunplay. The gunplay was one of the things that kept me playing through the dearth of new content, right up until the Pacific update. Once the TTK/gunplay changes first dropped, I never played it regularly again. Before that, it was the most I'd enjoyed the gunplay in a Battlefield game. I played it a little after they reverted it, but then they changed it again and I haven't touched it since. How is the gunplay/TTK these days?
Immersion is a real factor in the Battlefield franchise...that is why 1 started losing some people. Then 5 killed it with the gender woke BS. Then 2042 killed it even more with the woke garbage. The specialist crap etc...they have one more shot and then they go the way of Ubisoft.
Loved the game, but loathed the planes and how easily some players could abuse them to go 80 - 0 every game, often time making other players just leave out of frustration
I honestly believe the Squad System and Class System for BF5 was really well done. I like the option to be able to heal members of your own squad despite not being a medic.
Definitely wish they would have given the game another year for content, got a bit more Pacific, got some eastern front and a Normandy map and maybe more. Would've been cool too to see some other places not usually featured in games like Hungary or maybe Singapore with the Brits and Japanese. They always cut these games too short, this one was especially bad for that because it started getting really good when they decided to stop updating it and I will always hate them for how they just let firestorm die when they could've split it off as a free to play part of the game. So much wasted potential.
Skipped both this game and 2042 because of the controversy. Went from a hardcore battlefield fan to zero interest in the series, it's amazing how bad mishandling of a franchise can do that.
1 and 5 are my favorite so it is sad that they abandoned it especially since firestorm was a battle royale i enjoyed and had potential i feel. wonder what the next battlefield will bring if they are going to even make another
I got this game gor 90 cents, i loved what i paid for (just the last tiger mission had me happy with what i got but the multiplayer experience was actually quite fun when i started playing (around 3 months before 2042 beta))
I always feel so alone as a BadCo2 and on vet, that actually liked Battlefield Hardline. It was different in a good way and kind of brough back some of the sillyness from bad company 2 in its own twist. On top of that being able to unlock what ever you wanted equipment wise from money instead of rank was also super nice and was satisfying seeing that number climb, really miss it sad it died on pc.
BFV had to feel like an upgrade to BF1. At the time, I remember a lot of fans calling for a return to modern combat. COD Vangaurd was also announced around the same time so I think the market felt like it was saturated with WW2 FPSs. To get people's attention, it had to be better than 1 and it certainly wasn't. V was not complete and took way too long to get new DLC out.
it’s not just ea game companies in general these days are all trying to do these new things and be special little boys and girls when it’s more like they are just being special needs because they are crashing and burning all over the place and their games are a complete mess even with genshin and zzz and all of those games coming out over the past few years i am still willing to say that there are no truly good games that have released pretty much ever since the last of us part 2 released i just haven’t found a game that made me get that certain feeling
I played this game mostly on console and i love the game but playing in planes can be hell. Either you are at the mercy of teammates spotting or the mechanic that allows better visibility of ground troops kiks in when you are at anti air deadly range That's why camera spotting is so good in planes
Even BF1 suffers from there being WAY TOO MANY automatic weapons. 99% of the men in the REAL WWI had bolt-action rifles. And the "campaign" felt like 6 tiny demos. And the Arabian campaign pretends that the British Empire and Ottoman Empire fought each other over Arabia because of OIL, despite the fact that oil wasn't discovered in Arabia until 1933, FIFTEEN YEARS AFTER THE WAR ENDED.
The one major issue for BFV for me was that they removed the spotting mechanism, combine that with bad visibility and campers and you got yourself a flop
The problem of being a long term or hardcore fan is that, people can be super dedicated but the moment you push them off he edge they are never coming back because they felt betrayed, cant blame them.
Battlefield 5 was not good, something about the game was off and definitely was missing a significant amount of content and the gameplay/gunplay is terrible all the guns feel like I’m shooting them with BBs
Yeah, definitely agree. Right from the beta the game felt off, and it never really got any better. I dropped the beta after only a couple matches, then only got the game through Playstation Plus after the end of updates. It still felt off in a way that was hard to pinpoint.
@@dawarmonky2122 ... What? Getting kills wasn't an issue. The gunplay just felt bad, and never got better. I heard mention that bullet velocity had been decreased in V compared to 1, so maybe it was that, maybe it was Dice messing around with TTK, or a bit of both. Either way, it didn't feel good to play.
Well, the problem is Dice/EA response time. Every BF game that you listed did suck when it was launched. Then they slowly fixed it and when the games finally became playable, they bined it and went on a new title. This happened to all the BF games.
2:53 I think newer battlefield games need to have more plane options like in bf1 and 5 where you have fighter planes and bombers etc there shouldn't just be two planes fighting constantly there should be at least 3 fighters and one bomber.... It'd be so sick to look up and see a whole air battle protecting a bomber while there is also a battle on the ground then you can have ppl fly constantly in diff roles and diff style planes... it just makes me sad how bf1 and 5 have way more planes than modern day battlefield games even though there are SOOOOOO many modern war planes....
One of the reasons it died is because they decided to go the route of woman, other etnicitiec and etc that had nothing to do with the game and period. It was just modern propaganda. People just wanted a good classic ww2 game with ton of customization and details. But nope....they had to make a black nazi....i mean wtf what was the reason? to be creative or what?
Im getting back into battlefield x battlefront. Aerial combat, though im trash, is by far my favorite thing in both series. Put some eurobeat on for starwars, and some rock/metal bangers for battlefield, and ill be having the time of my life!
Correction on Battlefield WW2 games. There was a small online game they launched based off of the Frostbite engine that ran Battlefield Bad Company. That was Battlefield 1943. It was about the Pacific war and had 3 full maps and 1 or 2 maps that was just flying. I did not mind it. It was only 15 bucks and just a DLC.
The soundtrack is also fantastic. The overall mood/aesthetic in the main menu with the most mellow, tragic sounding music ever while looking at historical war machines is something no other game has done for me.
Oh my godness that plane fight at 33:31 really felt like from the game's trailer, so awesome shot you had there dude, amazing game till today, so sad what BF becomes now :(
If I get a plane I always make sure to do low flybys on my team to give ‘em the old Battlefield Experience. It’s always best in BF1 Operations right when a sector opens up and everybody starts yelling and blowing whistles.
Yeah. I agree that it is a good Battlefield game. But seeing discount Tom Cruise and Frenchie Girl running beside you in Iwo Jima just breaks the immersion.
I got the game years after launch at the behest of a friend who wanted to play, and all I got was hackers, hackers everywhere, every game we would get 1 hacker who just dominated everyone,, notable instance where if you tried to use the chat to tell people the hacker would flood the chat with just noise.
Grab your coffee and get cozy - it's time for another storytime video! We're going to look at how EA shot themselves in the foot with Battlefield 5 despite how GOOD the game ended up being. Also, be sure to check out the sponsor of today's video - War Thunder - a game that's still going strong: wtplay.link/rangerdave
i enjoyed playing BF V, i just didn't buy it because i was told not to.
Thanks for bringing up the rolling last game was the best with amnesia.
And then DICE said: "If you don't like it, don't buy it" and we did lmao
Buuuut, I do fully agree that BF5 was basically BF1, but with many improvements and the game honestly was really solid and didn't deserve the hate!
The gameplay was and is solid, it failed because of the politicization of the video games imho.
sometimes i think about what the game would be like if it had the eastern front
We were sooooo close! Just one more year for this game could have done so much...
I'm still upset that EA shut down updates for it after a Russian LMG was datamined/leaked, would have been fun
I honestly think they missed an opportunity to highlight the Winter War between Finland & Russia alongside the Austro-Hungarian resistance (besides having the German Campaign, which many players approved of) regarding the unknown history that showcases the German Question during WW2. Imagine they had created a battlefield at Itter Castle in 45.
imagine if the Eastern front update would also have maps where the Soviets are fighting the Western Allies in a what-if scenario of Operation Unthinkable being carried out
Would have vastly preferred that over the new North Africa maps and Pacific maps, which are all borderline unplayable.
My fondest memory of BFV was being some random's Sherman front machinegunner and switching to the top machine gun to keep the enemy at bay, while the tank went under emergency repairs
Felt like a kick to the shins that they ended support right as BFV was beginning to pick itself back up
EA Has a habbit of cancelling games at their finest moments (Battlefront II for example)
Firestorm was a giant waste of ressources, could have put that for Eastern Front and Normandy maps
Agreed, the trend-chasing and wasting resources on it was a shame, but ngl we did not need another game giving us Saving Private Ryan for the millionth time
firestorm should have been a stand-alone cause the gameplay was not too bad but well we saw how it went

I'm gonna be honest, if EA revived support for BF5 or atleast announced they would add a soviet expansion and add new maps for US v Germany some of my ill will towards EA will disappear
That would be the smartest move EA's made since 2020
For real
They could announce it as a "soft relaunch" and it would even get the public interested especially after 2042
I’ll always be sad that battlefield v and battlefront 2 were killed off for 2042.
And bf 1943 was killed off for 2042 because it apparently had alot more active players than bf 2042
@@glennpruess6936 wouldn’t surprise me truly a lot of games were killed off or stopped getting big updates for 2042 and it’s still not as fun as those were especially I loved bf2 when they finally got the good updates with clone wars stuff

As a military historian, I REFUSE to do business with a game dev that calls me "uneducated" when I call him out on his atrocious historical inaccuracies.

You forgot the last Tiger warstory. A Mission were you played the axis instead of always being on the allied side was just something else. IT was good
And perhaps the most accurate war stories.
Never ever am I forgiving EA to stop Star Wars Battlefront 2 for Battlefield 2042
I was REALLY hoping we would see a Russian side to the factions and some battlefields like Stalingrad, Kursk, Ural Mountains and the Baltics. If EA and DICE were focused on delivering a good game like they did with BF1, imagine how many more expansions we could've had.
They were working on the russian faction, we got the LAD mmg for a short while in the firing range which makes me sad
The vehicles would have been wicked as well. They could have added t34s, kv1s or IS2s along with IL2s or tu2s
To anyone that’s still playing bfv. PLEASE try this at least once it’s such a vibe. Spawn in as a tiger tank and play the WaW Russian theme. It goes astronomically hard trust
No thanks. As a tanker main I absolutely hate the Tiger. It's so helpless when it gets swarmed by infantry.
No matter what anyone says, this is my favorite Battlefield
Absolutely underrated
Battlefield 2142 has THE best game modes
EA killed it because of all the hate it was getting. Yea EA sucks, but the community also played a large role in EA killing it.
BF1 was just perfect in almost every way, and we need more games like it.
yeah, it would have been so easy to just make the same game as BF1, just with new maps, weapons and gimmicks like building trenches and towing cannos. that's it.
nope gotta redo everything while recycling half the guns from BF1.... just disgrace
BF1 will always be my best memories for the franchise. So many great battles on that one.
Can we just play BF1 with no expectations of them ever making another game we like? Until the servers get shut off, that is?
i dont think people were like that during the first 6 months of BF1, the random bullet deviation, the fact vehicles are selectable in roles meaning teams could have only artillery trucks and no tank pushes, conquest wasn't ticket based just Large Domination maps got everyone angry, there was a lot people still dont like about the gameplay to this day.
BF1 had the best atmosphere and immersion but BFVs gunplay is still much more enjoyable imo.
I have 2.5k hours in this game and although I don’t play as much I still hop on and play more than any other game at the moment.
i loved all the various takedown animations and how the animations changed with the weapons
The takedown animations are literally the worst example you could have given, as they were 1:1 lazy copies of the amazing work done for BF1.
The movement system in general . I transitioned from BF4 only recently and gosh it is so smooth compared to what we had before. I wish we had more game modes now than just conquest. Outpost is very fun and I think Rush may be also cool.

@@327legoman Problem is that the type of Battlefield you want will never come back because of the type of players it attracted when gaming became mainstream as a hobby. IMHO the biggest disappointment in Battlefield history was that there never was a Bad Company 3.
Bad company 2 was 2 good they had to make it more profitable so you end up with 2042 instead of 3
Never forget the great tune bad company 1 loading screen has
Rush > conquest
Bad company was just so fun and clean for pvp, felt so good and I had a terrible box tv and ps3 but it ran like no tomorrow and looked great to.
Cant wait to hear about how 2042 is actually super underrated and actually one of the best Bf games in the series...
Right??? I can't even say this is nostalgia, it's just people's standards dropping after having to deal with sub-par games for years...
That is a great way to put it!
I’ve just started playing it on pc i had like 600+hrs on console feels like a new game
I would have really appreciated a Vietnam or even Korean war era battlefield game.
I loved all the small details in Bf5 and physicality like with the revives not just being you electrocuting the air above the down soldier like in past battlefields but actually getting down and jabbing a needle into their arm.
Battlefield 5 is still good and prospering, people hop in!!

🫵😹
And don't forget about Star Wars BF2 they pulled the plug on that game too as it was on its way to greatness

BF2 deserved every bit of hate it got at launch I agree with that statement, but my comment was meant about BFV.
BF5 at launch was a bad game, between no content and the respawn bug. It took a year for the tank customization to come out, EA messing with the TTK not once but twice even after the community told them to knock it off it's fine, But BF5 currently is a good game, with the call ins, the solider customization and the fortification system.
Agreed
Both my buddy and I skipped this one over all the BS around it, just didn’t want to be a part of the nonsense.
never forget how they cancelled 2 good games, going into a super good direction, for 2042... justice for battlefront 2

The specialist crap etc...they have one more shot and then they go the way of Ubisoft.
the rehabilitation of Battlefield V continues...
Yooooooo. I forgot about your youtube page. Glad you are still around.
Loved the game, but loathed the planes and how easily some players could abuse them to go 80 - 0 every game, often time making other players just leave out of frustration
Battlefield 1 was peak battlefield
*2
@@ReichLife both battlefield 2 and battlefield 1 but man... Battlefield 1 just hit different...
Battle of Kursk, Battle of Stalingrad, Siege of Leningrad
1:06 I’ve been saying this for years
Same man, favourite BF title.
I still play it a few times a week since 2018
I honestly believe the Squad System and Class System for BF5 was really well done. I like the option to be able to heal members of your own squad despite not being a medic.
I still play it
0:53 my lawyers will be in touch
It's wasn't even that bad!? 😂
Your lawyers are going to ignore you bruh 😭
Definitely wish they would have given the game another year for content, got a bit more Pacific, got some eastern front and a Normandy map and maybe more. Would've been cool too to see some other places not usually featured in games like Hungary or maybe Singapore with the Brits and Japanese.
They always cut these games too short, this one was especially bad for that because it started getting really good when they decided to stop updating it and I will always hate them for how they just let firestorm die when they could've split it off as a free to play part of the game. So much wasted potential.
I dunno bro, infantry attrition was pretty abysmal.
Skipped both this game and 2042 because of the controversy. Went from a hardcore battlefield fan to zero interest in the series, it's amazing how bad mishandling of a franchise can do that.
They told me I should not buy if i disagreed with their direction, so I didn't.
1 and 5 are my favorite so it is sad that they abandoned it especially since firestorm was a battle royale i enjoyed and had potential i feel. wonder what the next battlefield will bring if they are going to even make another
I definitely would've loved to see them do another year of content at least on BF1 and 5 each and to have let Firestorm have the support it needed.
I got this game gor 90 cents, i loved what i paid for (just the last tiger mission had me happy with what i got but the multiplayer experience was actually quite fun when i started playing (around 3 months before 2042 beta))
Atleast they shut it down the support before they add the clown skins.
BFV had to live up to the hype of BF1. That’s one of the more ignored things.
Almost every gaming influencer trashed Battlefield V when it was current, and now almost all of them are saying how great it actually was
I played this game mostly on console and i love the game but playing in planes can be hell. Either you are at the mercy of teammates spotting or the mechanic that allows better visibility of ground troops kiks in when you are at anti air deadly range
That's why camera spotting is so good in planes
All V needed to do was make BF1 but WW2 and drop the goofball skins
Battlefield 2 still has the best formula.
And every iteration since has been desperately trying and failing to recapture the magic.
Battlefield 1 was a close call, battlefield 2042 just killed it off completely
Loved Battlefield 5. Enlisted is a pretty close replacement though
The problem of being a long term or hardcore fan is that, people can be super dedicated but the moment you push them off he edge they are never coming back because they felt betrayed, cant blame them.
i would have played it if they didn't fuck up the trailer
This game was really wronged by its own advertising.
Battlefield 5 was not good, something about the game was off and definitely was missing a significant amount of content and the gameplay/gunplay is terrible all the guns feel like I’m shooting them with BBs
yeah not really, it was alright but could have been better
You are crazy If you think the gun play sucked. It's literally some of the best gun play we've ever had in a battlefield game lol
Yeah, definitely agree.
Right from the beta the game felt off, and it never really got any better.
I dropped the beta after only a couple matches, then only got the game through Playstation Plus after the end of updates.
It still felt off in a way that was hard to pinpoint.
@@tweda4 sounds like a skill issue..... 😂. My 115k kills say otherwise lol
"If you don't like it don't buy it/watch it" should get anyone in PR or marketing fired immediately
That seems to be EAs thing the last few years, everything they touch just turns into a micro-transaction hell hole
I would pay $100 for a 10 map expansion pack for BFV....
Idk if you played bf4 but one good player in a frogfoot or a-10 warthog can shut down the entire map
One of the reasons it died is because they decided to go the route of woman, other etnicitiec and etc that had nothing to do with the game and period. It was just modern propaganda. People just wanted a good classic ww2 game with ton of customization and details. But nope....they had to make a black nazi....i mean wtf what was the reason? to be creative or what?
literally no one is going to ever hold that gun like it 22:08
The second i saw female soldiers i was out. Had zero interest in participating in that nonsense.
EA officially killed off this game when the British were replaced by the USA in panzerstorm conquest
BfV really got me into playing fps games as a kid
It may not be the best battlefield (bf1 obviously)
But it holds a special place in my heart
33:40 Pure cinema, man. Why i love Battlefield so much
“….before EA killed it.”
This is basically a monthly occurrence at this point.
The fortifications and the squad commander call ins were such huge implements that taking them away in 2042 felt like robbery.
Dogfighting in this game was phenomenal. Best planes of the series
