In this video I'll be going over the history of the franchise which covers all games from Battlefield 1942 all the way to Battlefield 2042. The video covers all the innovations DICE made with the franchise, as well as the downfall. Battlefield went from a franchise known for innovation, to un-originality.

For the people commenting that I missed this and that, the point of the video was to quickly summarise the biggest games in the franchise. If you’re annoyed that I missed your favourite game, I’m sorry about that 😢 this wasn’t a history video of battlefield, I spoke about the old games to remind people how great it used to be before I completely ruin the mood by reminding you that 2042 exists. Thanks to all the amazing comments! Please read them yourselves as some people have some interesting information down there about Battlefield!

not sure if i missed it, but bf4 had much more "detail map design" that convinced you you are in a battefiled, where as BF2042 had unbelievably sterile maps (supposedly in an utopic future). Also, i see way more "meaningful" building destruction in BF4 than in BF2042. First and last pre-order for me for sure. And I really need conving to go back to BF. I rather play BF4 while i still can.

No sorry kids, you had to be there for bf1942.
BF3 was when they started to pivot the series to be a direct competitor to CoD and every other multiplayer FPS on the market. People were stoked for BF3 because it was a return to a classic especially in light to some of the things in MW2 (eg dedicated servers, laying off the original devs of CoD4) rather than new innovation.
BF1942 and it’s mod, desert combat, are pretty janky but really were something new. It really felt like a sandbox to play in rather than the tailored and managed experience designed to hook even the most ADHD addled brain so they can get the largest market share.

What's sad about BatV is it had the potential to be brilliant - it had such attention to detail such as soldiers running differently in shallow water and players becoming dirty, brilliant levelution in that every building could be destroyed, butter smooth movement, great team aspects such as squad points & squad call-ins and being able to heal your squad regardless of class, an amazing soundtrack, vehicles which felt weighty, wide variety of map biomes. The game now is heaps of fun.

Frankly, devs today fucking suck. It's time to call a spade a spade. People will commonly say that we shouldn't blame the devs because x reason, it's just a cop out. BF3 came out a year and a half after BFBC2 and managed to not be bugged to absolute shit. There is no genuine reason why in the three years between BF5 and BF2042 that the dev team couldn't make a game that was playable. Content is one thing, and gaming has been suffering from that greed up top for a good decade at this point; however, in the past few years pretty much all AAA titles release basically unplayable. Not going to get into the reasons on why devs today are terrible, but fuck me AAA gaming has been starved of good devs for a very long time now.

All out, frontline war, 124 vs 124 players. You have snipers, tanks, large open battlefields in deserts and farmlands. Proximity voice chat between allies and enemies alike, and even stupid fun stuff can be done like taking down a tabk single handedly with a huge rpg, or running behind frontlines with 6 stacks of c4 strapped to your own chest. I don't think it's too unreasonable to ask for a modern BF3-like game. It is still great to play but it's showing its age, and there is definitely demand for it in the community. They don't have to keep trying to re-invent the wheel or chasing industry trends when they have a guaranteed working formula right in their hands. Just give us similar gunplay, similar map design (or just remaster old maps), similar vehicle mechanics, modern graphics and a solid roster of at least 15 maps at launch.

Listen as someone who has played battlefield as their main game since 1942, I won’t defend battlefield V too much, but saying the gunplay wasn’t good because of random recoil is hilarious.
Random bullet deviation from BF4 (and 2042 for some time) makes for some of the most frustrating gunplay ever. BFV guns at least shoot where the sights are…That was the main reason dice said they increased the TTK for the first time, new players were getting destroyed by long time battlefield and FPS players and they even said it was causing new players to leave.
BFV and BF3 have the best gunplay in the series and I hope they never return to random bullet spread like they did with 2042 on launch. I will agree with you though that BF3 is the best in the series, truly a worthy successor to BF2

People really undersell how damaging historical revisionism can be in games. It's insane how many people comes away after playing who believes it's real. We need to be way more critical of those details as it gives a lot of people a really warped understanding of history. It's disgusting. Sure it might not feel important for the majority. But the amount of times I've seen people be so confidently incorrect over historic subjects just because they saw it in a game. I'm not just talking WW2 history here, I'm talking all of it.

Even remastered games don’t cut close *cough GTA def edition* Here’s to hoping that things will turn around.

BF1 started the fall of the franchise post launch with DLCS releasing so far apart and DICE starting to not listen to player feedback. Then 5 sealed its fate being the worst bf game and one of the worst fps ever created. 2042 was just as bad but I find it more enjoyable to play than 5 since the core of the game was there but sadly its lack of maps made me leave.
Also bf3 had a terrible HZ rate of 15 which explained why you died behind covers more often than not. 4 helped fix it and refined 3's formula despite its rocky launch. 4 and 3 where the peak of the franchise and given the recent news about EA and Dice behinds the scenes, we'll never get another good bf game.
The only thing I can truly be excited bf related is Warsaw Revamped, mods for BF4. Hopefully it comes in soon.

"the black sheep of the franchise"
Hardline had insanely fun gameplay, the best gunplay in the entire series and was an overall amazing game, marketing convinced the low IQ masses of the opposite but everyone who played it agrees with me. If people didn't follow trends for their entire life we would have much better videogames (and life in general)

Battlefield V isnt that bad at all. I still play it every week. But it’s far from perfect. I like that you cant see enemies that easily in battlefield V. It makes it so actually using the right color camouflage on your character can be important. It also keeps you on your toes when running into a checkpoint, which to me feels more real. The graphics are objectively better in BFV than in BF1 and the gunplay is superb! However the movement can seem abit clunky at times, the menues are bad and the game lacks a grind as is stated in this video. Many still play bfv today. I reached its peak on steam just a couple months ago actually. It got a bad release mainly because of that awful trailer and a lack of grindable content and updates.

    • @snzr
      @snzr  2 месяца назад +6

The release was bad because the game was hella broken and there was no content, and the content that was there weren’t great, like the maps for example. We had to wait months just for new content because DICE were too busy fixing the game when it should’ve been good enough on release. The release was unacceptable, It doesn’t matter how good the game is now, everyone will remember that release. As for the random recoil, it’s still an awful system that doesn’t belong in a shooter, no matter how little it is. It’s a shame the game got cancelled, it had potential at the end. Thanks for watching though!
