I am a Unitarian. The Muslim man is 100% correct regarding "I am". The Jewish priests wanted to know if Jesus claimed to be the Messiah. Matthew 26: Can you hear the anger in the High Priest's statement? 62So the high priest stood up and asked Him, “Have You no answer? What are these men testifying against You?” 63But Jesus remained silent. Then the high priest said to Him, “I charge You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God.”

The pure Deism of the first Christians . . . was changed, by the Church of Rome, into the incomprehensible dogma of the trinity. Many of the pagan tenets, invented by the Egyptians and idealized by Plato, were retained as being worthy of belief."

“Muhammad has always been standing higher than the Christianity. He does not consider god as a human being and never makes himself equal to God. Muslims worship nothing except God and Muhammad is his Messenger. There is no any mystery and secret in it. The law of the Qur’an will prevail in the world because it agrees with reason and wisdom. I have come to understand that humanity needs only a Divine law to establish the truth and destroy falsehood. Islamic law will encompass the entire world because it is consistent with reason and agrees with wisdom and justice.”

It has to be from a place of love, that the Children of Ibrahim A.S despite having separate or distinct sharia’s, that they do not get preoccupied and off point whereby they are allowing for blatant blasphemy and jahaliyat to go on. It must be noted I believe that the Quran tells Jews to observe the sabbath so I would never do Dawah to a Jew or tell them not to keep Sabbath. Those who accept Muhammed SAAWS as a divinely inspired prophet of Allah who are of Jewish ancestry in my opinion must still observe sabbath in some way rather than not. Jummah prayers isn’t a sabbath. You are also free to ignore me entirely.

Those who worship Jesus will be in Hellfire forever.
Qur'an 5:72-75. 72. They have certainly disbelieved who say, " Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah , my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
    73. They have certainly disbelieved who say, " Allah is the third of three." And there is no god except one God. And if they do not desist from what they are saying, there will surely afflict the disbelievers among them a painful punishment.
    74. So will they not repent to Allah and seek His forgiveness? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
    75. The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.

John also had the vision of the Ressurected Jesus writing the book of Revelation.
That's why he had more of a deeper finished understanding of Jesus Christ.
That's why Jesus Christ called John 'The Last Prophet' Destroying Islam before it begun 600 years later.
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:15‭-‬17‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
[15] And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God. Today, Muslim arguments against the reliability of the message of the Gospels are significantly more advanced than that of the Qur’an. If the Qur’an was written six hundred years after the writing of the Gospels, did Allah not know it was corrupted in 632 AD? How can Muslims living in the 21st century produce a better argument against the Gospels than the author of the Qur’an if the author of the Qur’an is believed to be Allah? This means that Muslims should not reject what the Gospels say about the identity of Jesus.2 Contrary to the claim of Muslims today, there are numerous reasons to believe that the Gospels are reliable and that what we are now reading in them is what the apostles wrote down:

Quran corrects what has gone wrong in the Bible.
For example. The New Testament is not the Injeel.
Quran made it very clear that Injeel was given to Jesus in the form of revelations as guidance for his own people.
Injeel is not the Gospel according to John, Mark, Matthew or Luke.
The New Testament narratives are 3rd hand account meaning gotten from hearsay.
      Hearsay is not reliable.
We see many errors, contradictions, inconsistencies, discrepancy in the Bible.

'Ehyeh asher Ehyeh' means 'I am the ever-living?' How do they even come up with this stuff?
Also, if Jesus is talking with Aramaic-speaking Jews in John 8:58, he hardly needs to quote the Greek Septuagint's loose translation of Exodus 3:14 to them, does he?

    • @ruddin93

The New Testament is not written in the language of Jesus I.e Aramaic. This is a huge criticism as you know very well the meaning can be lost in translation which is relied on Koine Greek.
Secondly, the author of John's Gospel is written in Koine Greek. The Greek word EGO EIMI (I am) is a normal conversation just like the blind man in John 9:9. The translators added the context but did not do so in John 8:58 just to make readers think Jesus claimed Divinity.
In the Greek Septuagint Exodus 3:14 - The Greek word used for God's title is HO ON. If the author of John's Gospel intended for Jesus to claim Divinity, the author would use HO ON and not EGO EIMI. The translation does not capture the meaning and intention of word usage.

      @@ruddin93
"not written in the language of Jesus I.e Aramaic. This is a huge criticism"
Then it's a "*huge* criticism" of the Quran, which regularly quotes Moses, Pharaoh, Noah, Jesus, Abraham etc. all speaking Arabic.
"EGO EIMI (I am) is a normal conversation"
It can be, just as ehyeh/I am/I will be in Hebrew can be used with a completely mundane meaning (Job 12:4, Ruth 2:13). Even the word 'elohim' can refer to the true God and just to people. Context is everything.
"context but did not do so in John 8:58"
There's no reason whatsoever to assume the context of John 8:58 entails 'I am the Messiah.'
"In the Greek Septuagint... God's title is HO ON... the author would use HO ON and not EGO EIMI"
Well, John does use the phrase ho on/'the one existing' to refer to Jesus in John 1:18: monogenes huios *ho on* eis ton kolpon tou Patros/'the only begotten son, *the one existing/being,* in the presence of the Father.' So is John calling Jesus the God of Exodus in John 1:18? But ho on of course doesn't necessitate divinity and is found in reference to things other than God.
Also, ego eimi is used as a divine title in the Greek Septuagint: Deuteronomy 32:39 (idete, idete hoti ego eimi/See, see that I am), Isaiah 41:4 (kai eis ta eperkhomena ego eimi/And unto future things, I am). Also, note the contrastive temporal language in John 8:58 occurs in LXX Psalm 89:2 in reference to God, but in the 2nd person: "Before the mountains existed (genethenai), and the earth and the world were formed, even from age to age, You are (Su ei)." Compare with 'Before Abraham existed (genesthai), I am.'
And the Septuagint doesn't clarify this issue considering it translates ehyeh in different ways. Immediately before verse 14, in verse 12, it translates *ehyeh* 'imakh/'I am/will be with you' as ego esomai meta sou/'I *will be* with you.'
But as you point out, in verse 14 it translates the exact same Hebrew word, ehyeh, in ehyeh asher ehyeh and ehyeh shelakhani aleykhem/'Ehyeh sent me to you,' as "ho on." Note this is also translated into present tense not future tense like ehyeh/esomai in verse 12.
But anyway, if Jesus was addressing Aramaic-speaking Jews, he isn't going to use the Septuagint's very idiosyncratic translation of ehyeh/I am/I will be as ho on/'the existing one.' He'd use the Hebrew phrase itself which everyone would know, which is ehyeh/ego eimi/I am, or potentially, ani hu/'I am' (the pronoun hu can act as a copula in Hebrew, as in Arabic) as in Deuteronomy 32:39, and the Gospel writer faithfully relates this usage in John 8:58. The New Testament writers aren't slavishly beholden to the Septuagint at all. Fundamentally, ho on *isn't* the divine name in Exodus 3:14. Ehyeh/Ego Eimi/'I am' is.

    • @ConsideringPhlebas
      @ConsideringPhlebas Год назад

      @@ruddin93
Also, I should just point out the clear precedent to John 8:58 in the Gospel of John, namely John 1:1-3.
Just like in Septuagint psalm 89:2, John 8:58 uses contrastive language of timelessness versus the temporal. Also, this nuance is communicated using different verbs, eimi/'to be' and ginomai/'to become.'
      prin Abrahaam genesthai, ego eimi
'Before Abraham came to exist, I am'
      Abraham 'became'/genesthai/ginomai, but Christ 'is'/eimi.
In John 1:1, speaking about the Logos, it says:
En arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos
'In the beginning was/en/eimi the Word, and the Word was/en/eimi with God, and the Word was/en/eimi God'
This threefold repetition of the verb 'to be'/eimi, applied to the Logos, is contrasted with the threefold repetition of the word ginomai/become, applied to created things, in John 1:3:
Panta di autou egeneto, kai khoris autou egeneto oude hen ho gegogen
'All things through him came into existence/egeneto/ginoma, and apart from him came into existence/egeneto nothing which has come into existence/gegonen/ginomai.'
So eim+eimi+eimi is applied to the divine Word/Logos, but ginomai+ginomai+ginomai is applied to those things that came into being. And now we can clearly see the actual significance of Christ's I Am saying in John 8:58:
      Prin Abrahaam genesthai, ego eimi
Before Abraham came into being/genesthai/ginomai, I Am/eimi/to be.
In other words, Abraham is included among all those created things, as in John 1:3. But Christ on the other hand is spoken about with the same contrastive language as the Logos in John 1, given that he is the Logos incarnate, John 1:14. So John 8:58 alludes to Christ's true nature as the Logos, recalling what is written about the Logos in John 1:1, in contrast to all created things, even Abraham.

@@ConsideringPhlebas Just for the sake of brevity - I'm only going to touch upon each point you made briefly without going into the details:
      1. Every Prophet was sent in the language of his people. Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him received the revelation in Arabic. Jesus would have received the revelation in Hebrew/Syriac Aramaic. We don't have the original language of Jesus preserved in the gospels. They are all written in Koine Greek and you know the dangers of translation.
      2. John 8:58 needs to be read in context. Just read the sub heading from verse 40 onwards. The Jews were in dispute regarding Jesus. Why would they bother to interrogate him continously if Jesus made himself clear to claim divinity?
      3. Regarding your analysis of the Greek and Hebrew usage of terms for I am - you've only proven my point. There is lexical ambiguity over these passages and even read The Jewish Study Bible. The term Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh is disputed. I have the physical copy at home.
      1. John 1:1 - There is a theological problem interpreting Logos to be Jesus here. If Jesus as Logos was with The Father and Jesus was God then then logic dictates that makes Jesus The Father too.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God".

" you know the dangers of translation. "
Special pleading. The Quran translates his speech, and yet at no point do you believe Jesus's preaching in it is erroneous or misrepresented, even though it's not in his language.
"Why would they bother to interrogate him continously if Jesus made himself clear to claim divinity? "
The scene in John 8 gradually builds up to the I Am statement in verse 58, reaching its climax there, which is why the episode ends with it, which of course further supports the notion that it is something of profound significance, as does their response to it.
      "lexical ambiguity"
Even words you'd consider "explicit" like Elohim can be ambiguous in and of themselves. Context determines the meaning. And of course, I've made mention of the literary, linguistic and theological context of the I Am saying in John 8:58, so I hope you at least won't accuse me of tossing context aside.
"Jesus as Logos was with The Father and Jesus was God then then logic dictates that makes Jesus The Father too. "
No it doesn't. When the second clause says 'And the Word was WITH God (the Father)' that of course entails that the Word is not numerically identical to the Father. Just like one can't be 'with' oneself, one IS oneself. This is why St. Thomas Aquinas can write that clause 2 refutes Sabellianism/Modalism, as clause 3 refutes Arianism, and clause 1 refutes Photinus:
"The testimony of St. John concerning the Word of God destroys these three heresies, viz., that of Photinus in the words: “In the beginning was the Word;” that of Sabellius in saying: “And the Word was with God;” and that of Arius when it says: “And the Word was God”" -- Aquinas's Commentary on the Apostles' Creed
