Flowers Helped a Homeless Veteran Find Forgiveness: Life on Skid Row

- Опубликовано: 4 мар 2023
- Rufus, a 70-year-old marine veteran, came to Skid Row with a singular mission: to avenge his brother's death. He set his tent up around the corner from where his brother was murdered, and has remained there for the past eight years with his brother’s memory in mind, every day.
Over time, Rufus found work at the local flower shops that sit squarely in the middle of Skid Row. He spent his days taking out the trash, sweeping, parking cars, and running errands for the florists. Surrounded daily by the vibrant colors and fragrances, he discovered beauty and meaning in the cut flowers, solace in the simplicity of his work, and a sense of family in the community of Skid Row.
Rufus takes pride in his job and the contribution he makes to the shops, as well as a sense of purpose and fulfillment in his work. He never found the man he had come to kill, but he came to discover something far more meaningful-a sense of peace that had been elusive for so long.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Our groundbreaking educational content reaches millions of people every month. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.
Why is this vet homeless? He is working and contributing to society like he did in the marines and he is homeless...L.A. needs to give this honourable vet a home, a permanent home close to where he works so he can continue there.
Served 17 years and he's on the streets homeless....horrible!
Veterans in Australia are usually better off than most, with pensions, medical care and tax breaks. It is difficult to understand why there are so many in US that are homeless.
They don't even let other people let the homeless.
There's a dude that makes tiny homes for homeless using his own money.
The government takes the away saying they aren't real solutions.
Even churches can't feed homeless anymore it's illegal.
WW2 veteran in Florida got arrested for feeding the homeless a few years back

So many are homeless because rent is just so ridiculously high. Even something as simple as renting a room.
@@ShadowFiend777 Why doesn't the govt put up some basic homes in an expedited fashion do you think? It's just insane to me and evil that nothing gets done.
God bless that man 🙏🥰💐🌷🌺🌷🌹
What a beautiful man ❤️
17 yrs in the Marine Corps and homeless.....our government should be ashamed!!😠
He must have been drugs addict
@@Jia-dp9cu Did he say it? Don’t assume please. Can be a lot of bad choices but doesn’t have to be drugs.
I was thinking the exact same thing when he talked about his past. 😢
@@Jia-dp9cu So pretty yet so Naieve and no brains. You remind me of a coworker... she has a lot of growing up to do herself. You'll get there, hopefully.

Addiction is no excuse to minimize someone. On the contrary. The elite created drugs and use them like they use you evidence everywhere. & I bet you a freak/🍆 addict.
What a wonderful man, he found his peace, and now he shares it. So beautiful 🌸💐🪷
Keep up the great work. You have a fantastic channel.
Thank you for sharing this information with us
My Mom always said ' her flowers and gardens were her spirituality '
Brilliant, there is redemption for all, it takes hard work
Eternal rest grant unto him oh Lord, and may the perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen. 🙏💐🌹
Amen🙏❤️
Sad but courageous story. Impresive.
As they used to say in the 60's , "Flower Power"!
You are awesome thank you
4:30 , powerful message ❤️
Wow... God is awesome as he says!!
Hiya to all and to you Rufus ❤
What a beautiful soul this man is, love and prayers from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
Very deep. Someone who chose a career as a professional murderer was devastated by his brother's murder. I wonder if he as ever understood that. I hope the flowers help him bear that painful truth.
I agree. War is sanctioned murder.
Your Judgement is sickening
@@pianoreigns what is the difference between a civilian being bombed and dying in Iraq or Ukraine and his brother being murdered? Does it make it an OK execution if a government is behind it? What's sick is your willingness to differentiate the two.
You know when you’re poor , black in these United States America … where the law is against you, the real estate lobby is against you.. the banks are against you .. they all collude against you to make sure they put a foot on you neck
You join the United States military because the government begrudgingly allowed you to join the United States military and you want out of poverty
You want a shot at the American Dream .., you gotta labor and find out it’s a DREAM
Read the Color of Law
Read When Affirmative Action was White
Read Half American
@@pianoreignsI think we all empathize to where this man is at in his life and for the many pressures and losses that befell his life and the daily struggles he goes through. However, no one is necessarily worthy of forgetting their pasts especially if their past was directly related to making the ditches he fell into for other people to fall into. All he can do is change, and all we can do is try to forgive him, but we are only human, and that may not happen so try to be forgiving of those people as well even if it is hard.
Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing this.
BEAUTIFUL MAN
One of the most powerful videos I've seen on youtube in a long time.
❤️
Great job ❣️
I was like that over the death of my son..and daughter..God is still helping me with that..
🤗❤
God will avenge Rufus brother’s death. Poor Rufus, I hope God will lead him to the real truth.
I really doubt this guy was ever a Marine.
Wow! Mark! So well done, sir. Such great production and storytelling. Keep up the good work!
Your heart is a garden full of flowers. May this video reach everywhere on the planet, because we need better days!❤
I don't know Rufus but I love him. I would buy him 🌺🌹
He's awesome .
Rufus is so right.
Flowers reveal the glory and thoughts of God 🌻

I know some homeless vets who refuse to have the Veterans Affairs get them housing. Their lifestyle prevents it. They are hoarders and their campers are completely full. The apartment they want is three bedrooms. VA won't do that for one individual. They choose to live with all their stuff instead. I don't think this is the case with him.
Wow, that's deep! Thank you for sharing this other side of the coin. Both of my late parents met and served in the Navy, so I hold a special place in my heart for our veterans. Honestly, it's a crying shame that billions of our tax dollars are given to other countries, and some refugees can come to the USA and get more benefits than many of our most in-need citizens. With that said, I hope this kind veteran can get the help and benefits he needs to get off the streets into his own place, even a tiny home.🙏🏼🕊️
🙏🏼
Good man
Nice!

The VA doesn't make it easy to get benefits.
How to contact this Vet?
👍

The number one and only reason people are homeless is due to a lack of family support. A cost effective first approach is to help people reconcile with their families and if they can afford drug treatment or housing, their family members should pay the bill, not the city.

yeah, i agree the pursuit of vengence is a dark path. and we stay on it for way too long. even if we visit it for a little amount of time. it has then taken us from our work for God that needs to be done for God and his kingdom to come. my sister died and sometimes i think about her. and could have spent my time in a better frame of mind for Gods kingdom. cause Gods kingdom is the only real thing that can bring my sister back.

Be very ashamed us government in your inactions to be of real assistance to homeless veterans.
It would be better if they were actually invisible.

15 Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance[a]: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures
Bums can be so sweet sometimes.
What???!!
If you aren't aware, "bum" is usually used as a derogatory term towards the homeless and unemployed. Yes, though, he seems like a very sweet man.
Edit: this is why I was letting you know. People aren't going to be very kind because of that word. Good luck to you.
Allie Fettig........he's NOT a bum...he served this country being a Marine!....KARMA is REAL,.. watch who you judge or speak against!....it's obvious he's suffering from PTSD or some form of MENTAL illness
This man is working...how is he a bum? I charge u with personally helping this vet find permanent housing !! you up for that?
