Robert was probably the one king who was happy to hear of a rebellion starting under him
oh without a doubt 😂
It's probably one of the only times when Robert Baratheon felt at home. He never really found much in the way of happiness, which is partly why he indulged himself and neglected his responsibilities.
Jon Snow had a strong claim as Robert did, but due to his own volition and, by chance, was able to find a middle ground.
He was a better man than a king.
In fact, it is said in the books that he smiled when heard of the rebellion
Robert: "its hammering time"
Can we just say robert’s armor when depicted in art is just fucking badass looking
Agreed
Hell yea
@@daemontargaryenfanboybut Robert's armor is something else
Damn Straight
Robert was like the hound but with better armor and a hammer instead of a sword. He wasn’t a great swordsman. But he was a great fighter. Would love a Roberts rebellion movie or series.
Greyjoys: We do not sow
Also, We do not have the concept of action and consequence
That is what made their actions so unexpected, even when it led them to utter defeat.
Ned bringing home another boy
Cat- You gotta be shittin me
"i didnt cause this one, ok, hes just hanging out for a while"
Honestly for Robb tho was probably the best thing.
He had two “brothers” to fight against, with Theon being even slightly older.
Forgot for a second that Ned and Robert didn't just fight together in Robert's Rebellion but also The Greyjoy Rebellion.
Catelyn: “You brought home another boy??!!”
@@MrKingYuji LMAO
@@MrKingYuji Ned: One does not just simply enter a whore door.
@@MrKingYuji😂😂😂😂 bro didn't think of that. Everytime he went to war he brought home a kid
Another stupid decision by ned stark to not kill balon greyjoy.
Killing him will send a strong message and iron islands would get away with a stupid king.
Lore: What was the Greyjoy Rebellion?
*Shortlived*
Facts
Lmao so they basically got jumped by all of Westeros
Yep
Well if they succeeded they would have gone back to raising and pillaging Westeros, so basically every mainland house was onboard with putting them down
Some may be pro-Targaryen, some may be pro-rebels, but first and foremost, they're all anti-Iron Islands.
They had to learn the “fuck around and find out” way
Lmao nobody wanted a free Iron Islands. They're very ruthlessness and very warlike
Ironically, this rebellion likely aided in cementing Robert's hold on power. By giving houses that were once pro-Targaeryan a reason to rally behind their new leader for defence against the Greyjoys Robert would have fewer doubting his claim than before
Probably not. Most houses that were pro targaryen were on the opposite side of westeros to house greyjoy and therefore wouldn't care. House darry, velaryon, celtigar, connington, martell etc all are in the narrow sea, not the sunset sea. There may have been some minor reach houses whom were pro targaryen and they might care, but other than thay i think it wouldn't matter.
@@mappingshaman5280Martel's and Reach say hi
What kept Robert's power was the Starks and Lannisters both being on his side at the time.
"Balon had the balls to take the Salt Throne, but not the brains to keep it."
Think about some of the fighters that the greyjoys would have seen coming at them. A young king Robert, Barristan Selmy, Jamie Lannister, Thoros or Myr, Jason Mallister, The Mountain, the Hound and Jorah Mormont
The best fighters
You forgot Ned stark
@@harshvasani2591 Ned was an average swordman at best
@@SOB-FahadQayam That's not true at all. Ned was a skilled swordsman. It's just that whenever we see him fight, he's fighting genius swordsmen like Jaime.
@@SOB-FahadQayam he was quite skilled actually, Jaime wanted to fight him because he genuinely knew it would be a challenge
Thoros: (Activates Flaming Sword)
LEROY JENNNNKIIIIINNNS!!!!
Ned: He.. just ran in..
Robert: Seven Hells! Charge!
😂😂Now this is an actual underrated comment.
Imagine if GRRM wrote dialogues like the ones people are writing on every channels as memes
I just read the "seven hells" with GoT's Bobby B voice 😭
Anyone: *rebels*
Bobby B: Meat is back on the menu boys
Goes to war with no allies meanwhile robert has the backing of 3 major houses plus the tyrells once they invade the reach.
The Barateons and the Starks together are unstopable
baratheons*
Never rebel against a King who's entire response to it will probably be "YES! Fuckin' finally!" 😂
Little fix. Balon's eldest son and heir Rodrik Greyjoy died whilst besieging Seaguard during the early attacks of The Greyjoy Rebellion and died to Lord Jaon Mallister or his Mallister men. His second son Maron Greyjoy died during the siege of Pyke when the walls fell down by King Roberts catapults. He was probably leading the Ironborn men on the walls.
It's interesting that iron islands have been defeated so many times but always the ironlord is a greyjoy
Why don't they kill them all and give the control to a trusted house
Don't know if many other houses would be able to rule the iron Islands. Kinda the same with the starks in the north. It's inhospitable and the people have their own customs and beliefs.
Because of Kingsmoot.
Why don’t they kill all the Iron Islanders, and let the Gods sort them out? What benefit do they give the Westerosi? Maybe before Aegon the Conqueror killed Harren they might have been too powerful for any one of the other Six to take them out without opening a door for their rivals, but after Aegon?
@@Egilhelmson that's exactly what I am asking
@@vishalmishra579i guess it has to do with their powerful fleet and sea battle experience. In case there’s an invasion coming from Essos they would be a great asset to the defence
STANNIS THE MANIS
His wife and the mother of Theon Greyjoy ever forgive her husband for her husband did.She blame him for death of the two children and taking away of her third son.
What???
As she should
@@mukhtaarashraf3740 Why did Theon want his fathers approval? Ned trained him and gave him four new brothers(Robb, Jon, Brann and the fourth one). His father just wanted to be called king, but didn’t know how to kept it. His Father lost his brothers and still didn’t learn his lesson.
robert was such an absolute juggernaut, an unstoppable force
"A stupid rebellion then."
Victarion: I have a fleet!
Robert: I have a Stannis!
Balon: I have an army!
Robert: We have a Thoros of Myr!
Balon: The fuck is a Thoros of M...
*Thoros charges in, waving his flaming sword and screaming like a mad man*
Thoros of myr next!!!
Balon Greyjoy and his Rebellion did what Robert couldn’t do during those first few years of his reign: Unite The Realm
robert always looks like the baddest mother fucker to ever live when depicted in art
I've always wondered how Thoros survived being the first one through the breach, surely there must have been a lot of arrows targeting whoever came over first
He should have declared independence during Roberts Rebellion itself. Instead of after Robert was King
bobby b looking badassssss
It was a massive gamble for Balon but fron a Roberts perspective this was an even bigger opportunity to solidify his rule and also have another war/battle like the true warriors he was
Also would love to know how things may have differed if Theon was sent to be fostered by Bobby B or some other high lord instead of Ned
Hold my beer said Robert.😂
“Iron or gold?” - Balon
“What was the Greyjoy rebellion”?
A very bad idea
Stannis as always
And if Robert had listened to his brother, balon would be dead and the rest of the iron born would have been broken under the stag and could never rise up again in the future
Rebellions: We smashed Tywin's fleet, nobody can mess with us in the sea!
Stannis:
That would be awesome to see that in a tv series
Let's rebel against those that defeated the Targaryen!
What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger
Ironborn are such losers, petty, and ankle-biting
@@someonewhosharnessedthegra4119tasty sigil
That helmet is sick
Would love a series of this. Imagine robert ned stannis the mountain thoros victarion tywin barristan and jorah all in 1 war. So many amazing characters
I hope they make a series about the this rebellion soon
King Robert literally got happy when he received this raven 😂 he was bored and got excited he gets to kill people
Fighting greyjoy is like having all the best pro-players demonstrating their skill on a strawman 😅 Ironically that's when the seven kingdom is most unify
but ned didnt treat theon as hostage right? instead he foser him? or am i wrong to speculate
True Ned treated Theon as a ward but it’s not like Theon could go home whenever he wanted
Ned treated him like a son and taught him to be noble and honourable, partly because he wanted Theon to change the attitude of the iron islands once he had replaced his father Balon
@@niccologregorutti9309 like a son? imao you living in your own fantasy or you probably havent read the books.
he treated him as a hostage actually
@@eurongreyjoy1008 I read the books,Theon was raised alongside the Stark's children,he ate at their table,he was trained by Ser Rodrik, his teacher was maester Luwin. There is a reason why the stark children always looked at him as their brother, because Eddard Stark raised him as his son. Sansa in King's Landing is an example of how hostages are treated,a completely opposite situation than Theon in Winterfell
Robert looked majestic in his armor
Long Live The King
Roberts easily one of my favorite characters and I love House Baratheon. A bastard family to the Targaryens as Orys was Aegons bastard brother, always had strong warriors in their family line.
Would make a beautiful TV show
so why ned stark brings some child to his home after each war?
Hostages. The idea was that Ned could take Theon as a ward/hostage, stopping Balon from rebelling again, while also making Theon a decent heir to the iron islands.
@@e-san6111 i was kidding ✌️
@@tristansliebestod Oh lmao. I see so many people ask questions, I just assume they don’t know yet.
He’s just building a collection of his enemies kids. How else is he supposed to show off all the cool wars he won?
He was Batman.
Balon was a fool tbh. He should have known that Robert is bound by both blood, honor, and brotherhood to 3 kingdoms alone beside the stormland. With the westerland bound by a marriage pack, the vale bound by John’s arryn honor and his love for Robert, and the North bound by Ned Stark’s brotherhood, that’s 4 v 1 and even if 3 of the kingdoms were exhausted, the westerland remained virtually untouched after the rebellion.
There is no such thing as a rightful claim for the throne. If someone is strong enough and has enough allies, anyone can become King.
Once you're King, you need to have the power to keep your seat.
A rare case when Stark, Baratheon, Lannister, Tyrell, Arryn were all on the same side. (Martell probably didn't give a f...)
Greyjoy: Our fleet - best
Stannis: Lmao, really?
You can't be as badass as Thoros of Myr. Bro literally slaying people with flaming sword while being drunk. That's the coolest shit ever. I bet Robert will tell that story if he have the chance 😂😂
Who exactly was thoros?we know hes supposedly myrish by also supposedly a red priest. How he get to Westeros
He was sent there by the high priest of rhollor to convert Robert to the lord of light, of course Robert had no care for the foreign religion nor thoros who would rather spend his days drinking and sleeping which prostitutes, it was only when he joined the brotherhood without banners that he chose to become a devout follower.
he was who Revive Beric Dondarion
Thoros was a red priest from a temple in Myr who was sent to Westeros in hopes he could convert the fire obsessed mad king to the red god. He stayed at court after Robert‘s rebellion and became the kings friend.
Robert was really the greatest conqueror he didn't need a dragon he did all using with his bare hands and charm obviously .
Is it me or Westeros is full of kingdoms that just need any reason to Rebel
lol rebellion is the lords of Westeros’s favorite pastime activity 😂
One of the biggest problems with the ironborn culture is the constant desire to restore the old ways we do not but we take by the iron price etc.
They could try to modernize by westerosi standards. Do trade with iron for gold etc but they’re so backwards thinking buying is weak instead of taking.
Even norse people traded etc.
Yeah I was hoping they'd develop into the first democracy. Their climate seem to be even warmer than Scandinavia, etc. But they're just really so backwards.
I’m curious as to why they didn’t rebel when the war was going with robert’s rebellion? Balon could’ve strike Lannisport like how he did during his rebellion and take those ships and sack casterly rock, hire the golden company for land battle.
Balon's father Quellon was an ally of Robert during the rebellion.
I kinda wondered what would have happened if Theon was sent to Dragonstone or Casterly rock to be ward/hostage instead of to Ned.
Robert after hearing about the rebellion: 👉👈🥺
Robert's rebellion was actually good rebelling weather. Others would be too focused on ovethrowing Targaryen dynasty.
And Thoros was too drunk to even remember! 🤓😎✌🏻
I don't think Robert would have let Balon live afterwards.

Have the iron born ever not sucked?
A stupid rebelion, then!
If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a hundred times Robert should have left the iron islands a ruin of smoke and salt and maybe then renamed it the rusted islands or something.
When Dorne rebelled
The rest of Westeros except the Stormlands and the South: I sleep
When the people that worshipped cthulu rebelled
Westeros: *REAL SHIT?*
Should of killed Balon and took Theon captive until he was of age.
Thou Shalt Not Kill
Next house florent
Balon is pretty shameless
Thoros of Myr!
Unfortunately for balon he did two main things wrong
1 think the iron born are good at anything other than sailing
2 trying to rebel when Robert was still in shape
Why are the Ironborn hated really by everyone else?
They’re unrepentant pirates and raiders.
What happen to Victarion?
Where is all theses stories at what books
The greyjoys whole thing is naval superiority only to lose at sea to stannis smh
To be fair, GRRM has said Victarion is as dumb as a stump.
If it wSnt for stannis and ned robert would never have held the throne
Nah it was jon arryn. Stannis certainly helped, ned less so, but even if the greyjoys won robert wouldn't have lost the throne. But jon arryns administration made it so the realm was stable (though impoverished thanks to littlefinger).
@@mappingshaman5280 Yeah, people forget Jon Arryn could probably keep the realm together.
The Grejoys defeat Stannis, and destroy the Royal Fleet and the Arbor Fleet. So what? they just start raiding coasts, and people are gonna demand Robert build another fleet to invade them again. Even fi the Ironborn won the initial part of the war, they were gonna keep perpetually fighting because they raid.
@@ProtomanButCallMeBluesStannis would’ve had to sabotage himself hard to lose to the Greyjoy fleet. He had the greater numbers and they were led by Victarion, who is by author’s admission “as dumb as a stump.”
So thats why he was with the stark,s i did not no that very interesting.
A dumb rebellion, by an even dumber lord that won them absolutely nothing, Balon is the only character in Got that’s inconsequential imo.
What do they mean bo the old way? Did the greyjoys ever rule?
Yes, through the kingsmoot the Greyjoys have ruled the Iron Islands as kings a couple of times. (This was before the Targaryen Conquest)
The Greyjoys totally suck (except for the sister.)
Gd g o t's lore is like crack...
My bro didn’t read the books.
There is a billion dollars worth of storytelling in these books
This is so true. So many stories to be told. GRRM is one of the few that can create a world that is bigger than the main story itself.
Those would have been all the fighters conveniently in their prime or not too late from it. Crazy how human fantasy is just convenient.
It was a stupid rebellion then-Tyrion Lannister
Did robert fought in this war?
Yes, Robert was mostly just fighting. Robert wasn't much of a commander. He had his brother Stannis do most of the strategy and lead the battles. Robert spent most of the war with Ned, fighting random guys.
@@ProtomanButCallMeBlues That’s not true. Robert was a very capable commander. In his own rebellion he defeated the loyalist stormlords rapidly, and he successfully withdrew at Ashford with his army intact and escaped the much larger Tyrell force.
Robert also was an strategic command of the loyalists in the Greyjoy rebellions. Stannis commanded the navy and then commanded one of several invasion forces Robert led to the Isles.
no one appreciates stannis sad... he literally was the reason theyy won
Bad timing
This is prob the practically dumbest decision in the whole story. We secede and shall begin piracy on a grand scale. We expect a positive response
The ironborn really are pieces of crap
What was the greyjoy rebellion. A fucking disaster 🤣🤣
Robert fucking Baratheon legend
Ahhh i see
