God I love Viserys' lore readings. He's just so wonderfully biased.
Now that I think about it. This is probably how he told the story to Daenerys when she was younger, painting the Targaryen's as the good guys.

I would be
Targaryen's insanity from centuries of incest.
Although naive and deeply arrogant. He wasn’t completely stupid. His fault lies to his lust for power. In game of thrones you easily understand the price of power, the failing of institutions, and the horrible motivations of surviving in Westeros

My favorite is his narration in the dance of dragons video, little prince jacarys must have shit himself when he saw aemond and vhagar

I was never a big Stannis fan, but that line right there gives me huge respect for the guy.

Anyone try using “gods” in conversation?
“Gods, that was a good taco.”
"Gods, what a fineeee dinner!"
My mom hadn't seen me since 1987, we reunited in 2016 and I got to visit her in NC a year later, I slipped when I visited my mom (who's devoutly Catholic by the way) I said to her when we were on our way to her house how beautiful the countryside was ”by the gods this really is beautiful country” she looked at me so confused and said ” by the gods”?! 🤣 I had literally binged watched game of thrones seasons 1-6 so many times I think I developed an accent. It still creeps out every once in a while 🤣

I FOUGHT WITH THE FURY OF TEN MEN!
Robert’s voice and all of his existence screams: ,,WAR!”.
From the way he tells a story, through the sound of his voice, to the fury, valour and skill he fought his battles with.
From the nature of the Storm-lands to his house words, Robert was built for war.
Fantastically written character and terrifically performed by Mark Addy.
He's a great storyteller. If he weren't the king he'd have been a great balladeer. I love how it feels like he's reliving it as he's telling us about it.
He was a born warrior lived to fight afer the fight ended he started drinking and wasting away

Its so tragic and yet so beautiful how Oberyn discribed Elia and loved her so damn much. She sounded like a wonderful humble Person and was killed so brutally and cruelest way possible...
I love the way Ser Davos describes Stannis, his narration was my favorite
I don’t really get the Stannis simping the fans participate in. But his pov in the rebellion makes me sympathetic of him. He defied his king to help his brother, despite putting laws above all else, and sacrificed so much. Yet when Stannis needed Renly to defeat Joffrey, Renly went against him and made the war so much worse because “why not Robert started a war too lmao”. His younger brother betrayed him when he needed him most.
Also Robert shafted Stannis at every turn.
I think that’s more on the book side of Stannis, where he shows a bit of a less stoney approach than his show counterpart.
The show did a massive disservice to Stannis’s character unfortunately
@@idonthaveaname576Stannis in the book is one of his best written charicters in my opinion. The actor that played him would have knocked it out of the park too, if they had kept more true to the book.
They simp because the Iron Throne is his. By right.
"So easy.. a king should die harder then this" goddamn if that ain't a badass line
I read this at the exact same time as he said it somehow
Imagine a one on one conversation between Stannis and Tywin.
With robert littlefinger varys and bron
We saw Stannis get his hands bloody. I'll take the baratheon...
As the battle of the Blackwater raged on, just as tyrions forces were about to be flanked after their own victory, the Terrell and Lannister armies arrived ,.....
Led by Tywin Lannister; on horseback, SWORD IN HAND, slashing viciously.
Lord Tywin will fight and get his hands dirty, except he wins when he does it.
@@bakionigeri6414Nope it was Garlan and Loras who led the force
The tension would have made the room snap.
"Our means were bloody but the results speak for themselves" probably should have been the Lannisters' motto.
And like everything else the lannisters did.
It ended up biting them hard in the arse in the end.
As someone who is admittedly A Lannister fan I will admit this was their downfall. Brazen moves or actions that bring repercussions. You guys are right but here's my favorite example. Tywin's hate of Tyrion was Brazen rash and uncalculated. And that's the one person who got tywin in the end.
Those are some good house words. "Our means are bloody" Reminds me of the Bolton words. "Our blades are sharp"
Hearing Stephen Dillane makes me happy. His portrayal of Stannis made me love the character, with all his flaws/sins and his little touching moments. The guy had it rough. Even after all his efforts to help Robert, which meant going against his duty and loyalty to Aerys, he still got nothing. Storms end should’ve been his. The throne was his by right and everyone except Ned undermined him. His wife couldn’t even provide him with a male heir and his only daughter was sick with greyscale. Robert never loved him, Renly betrayed him. I would’ve loved to see the peach scene in the show. Stannis said he would go to his grave remembering Renly and his peach. A way for his brother to tell him to smell the roses, a proof that they loved each other to some degree.
Brb crying. Stephen was the best Stannis.
All hail King Stannis of the House Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, Protector of the Realm, Survivor of the Siege of Storm's End, Conqueror of Dragonstone, Subduer of Great Wyk and Liberator of the Wall.
I like stannis line in the book and here he says “ only renly can jest me with a peice of fruit” 😂
You can’t really blame Selyse for something out her control. Stannis is as much to blame for not having a son as she is.

Ikr lifes not fair
@@tomstreet2859 Never heard that one, the show always portrayed her hatred for him as purely being fueled by the fact that he's a living reminder of Ned cheating on her.
@@zumis1011 The books were a bit more nuanced. She has a fit when Robb names Jon his heir in case he dies. I sometimes forget the show ignored those points.
Gods, Roberts voice alone could inspire a thousand men to go to War for him!
I somehow cannot imagine Jaime Lannister married to Lisa Tully...

These lore videos using the actors to narrate is some of the best additional content I’ve had the pleasure of listening too
Couldn't have gone with anyone better than Mark Addy for Robert.
They seriously should do a epic blockbuster of this story, and call it "REBELLION".
I wonder if Robert was so angry because he really believed Lyanna had been abducted and raped, or because he knew Lyanna didn't want him and couldn't deal with the blow to his ego.
Jennifer Brewer both
It was the 1st one he believed that Lyanna had been kidnapped and that the Targaryen's were unruly maniacs that had to be put down. Also the point of this war wouldn't just be a rebellion it would also seem like a rescue mission, which prompt soldiers to join the rebellion.
Yup. I think the show made it pretty clear that Littlefinger had created and spread the lie. Even then he was seeking his revenge against Brandon Stark and company. All events after the duel between Stark and Baelish need not have occured if Brandon had just killed him and got it over with. The lessons of all this are simple: never leave an enemy at your back, and revenge is a dish best served cold, so cold no one even realises it is revenge.
I am sorry Littlefinger was kid when the Rebellion what happen he had NO POWER then. He still nurse his cut by Brandon and he kick out by Cat's father.
Jennifer Brewer, i think its both
I don't understand why HBO doesn't make a prequel on Roberts rebellion.they have so much material.why making some other stories.this one is just fine...
This one is the best if you ask me but it seems like the average spectator would enjoy flying CGI dragons or walking zombies more than a captivating story.
Yea like 20 episode till their 1st child
Imo it’s too close to game of thrones.
IIRC Martin wanted Robert's Rebellion to just be left up to our imagination
Probably after the house of dragons has wrapped, we may get this prequel, once there are some years between the original show and this. People love nostalgia
Man I love house Tyrell. Margaery paints a unbiased view of the war where House Tyrell had nothing to truly gain or lose if either side won.
She did sugar coat her father's failures. The Tyrell army is 80-120 thousand strong. They didn't need to use all them for Stannis and his mere 500 men. They could've gone north to pursue Robert. He would've still been blocked off from his heartland.
@@user-ti5cw1ug6l you fail to understand why mace had his entire army siege storms end...
They had no stakes in the war.
They moved in a way that secured the best possible outcome regardless of who wins the rebellion
The art during Margery's narrative is so cool and pretty. Great stuff, ScrivaTV.
Everything House Tyrell is they owe to the Targaryens. They are a House of traitors, and I can't wait to see some roses burn. The only downside is that not all of them are in KL in the books, since there are two older brothers (the show leaving that out made no sense, they'd never have Loras on the Kingsguard if he were the heir) Jon Con, for one, will hate the roses.
38:35 this highlights the difference between Little Finger and Tywin, both are sociopaths but the major distinction is that Tywin is part of the upper class and seeks to maintain his position while Little Finger seeks to gain power.
Lol “as far as areys he must’ve been pissing himself” sounds like the words of king Robert😭😭
"The Baratheons say 'Ours is the fury.' I will show them... fury *BURNS* "
ARGH! My knees are bending!
I honestly do not consider the Rebellion unjustified. Even if Lyanna was not abducted, Aerys still murdered Rickard and Brandon Stark, Lord Paramount of the North and the heir to Winterfell on bullshit charges and flimsy evidence and in gruesomely cruel fashion before calling for the heads of Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon on unjustified grounds who were under the direct protection of House Arryn. The crimes against House Stark alone made it certain that there would be war, especially since they had been nothing but loyal vassals to the Targaryens for almost 300 years.
Pro-Targaryen loyalists honestly disgust me by refusing to acknowledge the legitimate grievances that all the belligerents had against the House of the Dragon, especially the Starks. I do, however, extremely regret what happened to Elia Martell and her children because they did not deserve to die.
I know this is an old comment but the actual rebels had absolutely nothing to do with Elia and her childeren’s deaths. That was all Tywin’s doing to get in good with Robert before the rebels won.
I have no doubt that if Ned had made it to King’s Landing before the Lannisters did, Elia and her childeren would’ve survived.
@@daankeizer4469 Here's hoping. Ned wouldn't have harmed them, but Robert.........

Seven hells, I miss how epic the show was in the early years
Oberyn's lore story about his sister Elia was so awesome
All the fostering and marriages around country shows that a big alliance was already being forged, in order to take down Aerys II or at least protect themselves. During the previous peace time, all the great lords married their own noblewoman: Rickard Stark to a Stark cousin, his father Edwyle to a Locke, and his father Willam to a Glover, Hoster Tully to a Whent, Jon Arryn to a Royce, then an Arryn, Steffon Baratheon to a Estermont, Mace Tyrell to a Redwyne, etc. They knew war would come soon or later.
Rhegar himself was planning on overthrowing his father, but he was planning it too late before the rebellion occurred
Petyr and Varys fighting is making my day.
8:53 stannis part is the best
You know you did something right when you seal the narrative by Tywin Lannister himself.
It’s so sad that by the time cat died she still didn’t know the truth about jon
She could find out in the books.
She’s a zombie in the books so there’s still time
I like how she said Eddard isn't built like that😂
Isn’t it funny how viserys doesn’t realize that he isn’t the heir the sons of the first son come before the second born son. Technically aegon would be named king
After Rhaegar died, Aerys literally stripped Aegon and Rhaenys of inheritence and said Viserys was his heir. Aerys didn't trust the dornish at all and believed they conspired to kill Rhaegar, so he didn't want a half-martell inheriting the throne. He was mad.
stephen kuchler aegon snow wasn’t born. Rheagars children were murdered by clegeane thus making viserys the true heir.
Olenna should narrate the Tyrell part

REBELLION!!! Seven Hells I love Robert’s voice!!
The sad part is that Rhaegar probably would have been able to rule the 7 Kingdoms as a great king and prepare against the White Walkers.
he might have won the battle had he not engage in single combat. or had he bring arthur dayne and gerold hightower
No, Rhaegar was not a stable personality. He abandoned Elia and his children with his father; affectionately known as “the mad king” to run off with Lyanna, to create a prophecy baby. He did this despite knowing it would probably lead to civil war, and he knew that it would endanger his wife and living children.
Robert was no saint but Rhaegar wasn’t a good guy either - the few actions we do know about him tell us that he’s no benevolent ruler
Doubt it. He was already going mad in his own way. Obsessed with prophecy to the point of leaving his wife for dead. Who knows when you can depend on someone like that to do the right thing?
They should have made a show out of this.
They probably will
It takes away the mystery of it
