Alfaholics GTA-R vs Tuthill Porsche 911 SCRS | Chris Harris Presents Llandow Laps

- Brace yourself for perhaps the most gorgeous, wallet-troubling face off-yet, in Episode 5 of Llandow Laps. This time, Chris will be setting lap times in restomod creations from two of the UK’s most respected specialists: Tuthill’s 993-generation 911-based SCRS; and the Alfaholics GTA-R. As you might expect with a combined cost of nearly £1 million, both cars have been extensively re-engineered, with the Tuthill 911 SCRS’ 3.8-litre flat-six producing 324 PS, and the featherweight, carbon fibre-bodied GTA-R pumping out 243 PS courtesy of its 2.1-litre twin-cam inline-four.
It might look like the plucky Alfa isn’t in with a chance, but at just 797kg compared to the 911’s 1,215kg heft it should make a worthy competitor, or at least a wonderful thing to watch sliding past the majestic, caravan-filled vistas at Llandow.
Put your headphones in, turn up the volume, and join us for another grin-inducing Grudge Match, with the added bonus of Sound Recordist Ren’s famously dextrous digits.
Please note: Collecting Cars does not condone any drinking games which revolve around Chris’ use of the word ‘beautiful’ in this episode.

Llandow Laps is our exciting new series, hosted by Chris Harris at the 'legendary' Llandow Circuit in South Wales.
The concept behind Llandow Laps is to pitch two vehicles from the same genre against one another to see which is faster; and the first series will feature grand tourers (with a twist), hot hatches, supercars, roadsters, and restomods.
As well as showcasing the cars’ performance on track, the films will also reveal the behind-the-scenes work required to produce the end result, introducing some of the personalities from the Llandow Circuit and the Collecting Cars team.
The science bit: All cars featured in Llandow Laps will be unmodified from the specification seen on screen, they’ll be running with a full tank of fuel, and they’ll be fitted with sensible tyres available on the road cars from the factory.
Lap times will be recorded, and a winner of each head-to-head will be revealed - although there’ll be more focus on the driving experience and character of the cars than on the numbers alone.

I will never get over that intake noise from the Alfa...ugh it just sounds sooo good.
It is the absolute definition of an eargasm, a sound that I can never get tired of.
Retropower did a Alfa with a Millington Diamond engine in it, the customers remit was it must be able to beat anything with a M badge around a track
Can I just burst your lil happiness bubble. Imagine in a few years time there will be less glorious intake noise n more wwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....🤕🤕🤕🤕
It's very very special!
Naturally aspirated intake sounds are underrated
Dont really know where we would be without Chris Harris, for the true motorsport enthusiast
.He truly is, the ultimate motoring journalist.
That induction noise of that Alfa gives me goosebumps. If you prefer an ev over that you don’t have a soul and you must hate driving.
ruclips.net/video/vwl40XFvpLE/видео.html All this from a pinto with a Warrior head on it...! Sounds just as good, if not better.
@@bugattieb110ss We get it, you're British and you like Escorts. Too bad they don't have even 1% of the soul and pedigree that an Alfa has.
Brilliant series, who needs Top Gear on the BBC when this exists. Well done Chris Harris and Collecting Cars
Couldn't agree more
👍👍
Kind of Glad Chris is not on Top Gear! Followed Chris from EVO and he really sweats Petrol😅
This is his Bread And Butter, being him, enjoying Driving and not having to Prat about !!
Thank you! Means a lot. Takes a while to get these series off the ground, but glad it's finding it's fans!
@@collectingcarsit’s great stuff guys. Really appreciated
That little alfa is the holy grail of distilled driving pleasure 🙆🏽♂️
With a full carbon body aswell 🥺
So, have you driven one?
We couldn't agree more!
Nirvana
I cannot think of a single car I would rather own than that Alfa. Absolutely magnificent.
Absolutely loving this series. Collecting cars x Harris and the film team, they know exactly what content we want and put together some fantastic stuff
I just really want to say, the bits of "filming of this video" interwoven with the actual video is so, so refreshing and feels so *real* in a way that other automotive videos simply haven't done. Really wise and unique choice, keep pushing the art form lads!
Thanks for the feedback, means a lot. Glad you're enjoying!
Yes I'll second that. Chris and co...the real deal.
@@rossgrimson972Yeah I'll third it, much more natural feeling.
It's hard to put into words how much the bloopers and behind-the-scenes sections help make these videos feel so real and organic, genuinely makes you feel like you're around with the team! The contrast between Chris' presenting voice and normal talking/explaining stuff or just fooling around voice is great. Some of the best content ever, thanks a lot!
The Tuthill is a thing of beauty and definitely on the lotto win list but my God that Alfaholics GTA-R is just incredible. The GOAT Chris Harris in his element. Love this current series
Glad you're enjoying!
Just wish it would stop ☔
Yes, I wish they could revisit that in the dry. I'm pretty sure the result would be very very different and the Alfa would come out on top... both stunning cars, of course....
Best episode yet , two utterly gorgeous cars .
It was the last run of the day...but so glad you guys enjoyed it!
I race a step-nose Giulia (with lots of Alfaholics bits) and can empathise with Chris over the traction challenge - and I have “only” 200bhp and weigh 830kg. Often out-qualify more powerful Porsches only to be out-dragged off the line. People often comment on my engine note too - so iconic. And the Giulia just looks amazing from every angle.
There are lots of car videos on YT, but only a small number make you want to stop what you're doing and go for a drive. This is one of them.
Great episode... still hoping for some dry track days.
These videos should be getting millions of views as they are tv quality productions.
Share it far and wide 🙏🙏
Just read that reply in Edward’s voice …
I don't care what anyone says the Alfaholics GTA-R is the best restomod ever made. You can keep your Singers your Tuthills and your Eagles, it is automotive PERFECTION.
Amén!
Although those Eagles are beautiful cars.
And I don’t think many actual car enthusiasts would disagree with you on this one 😂 Singers to me are more like works of art than true performance cars
When I have the money, I will have one of each. It is not a zero sum game
Maybe check out the MST MK1 Escort before saying it’s the best 😉
*This is definitely one for headphones!*
*So much for 4 pots sounding pants!*
Got cans on 😂
Great video. We need more videos like this on Alfa Romeos.
Brilliant as always, the 911 is beautiful but that Alfa is something else.
I’ve been absolutely loving Llandow laps ! MORE PLEASE
What a privilege to be in either of these stunning motors! Best one so far.
“Hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have”…. no Chris Harris, of course we haven’t… you got to drive these beasts! But it was still chuffing enjoyable to watch though! Top marks all.
After top gear, I never felt video production could be bettered.
And then Harris and team come out with this stunningly casual, and yet utmost professional production.
Bravo, all.
The Alfa 105 is an absolute little gem. Once affordable just a few short years ago, but still a slightly underrated classic Italian coupe. Grab one why you can!
Absolutely fantastic content. Very enjoyable to watch. Chris's presenting is so natural, down to earth and entertaining.
If you can afford the Alfa, you can afford both 😁
Great series 👏🏻
Much better Chris. No second hand car sales just solid driving of two legends on a challenging track and loads of fun and eye candy. One of the best videos you've done in a long while. Cheers
Great to see the appreciation to the crew it takes to make these videos. 🎉
There are some seriously desirable restomods out there including the Tuthill, but none are nearly as pretty as the Alfa.
Never, as a dyed in the wool Alfa lover, did I think I’d consider a Porsche over an Alfa. But on cost, the Porsche has it, and despite the induction noise of the Alfa, so does the crackle on the overrun. I need a lie down 😂
Nobody does a fast hot lap better (while narrating) than Chris.
That alfa would have to be one of the best sounding 4 cylinders i have ever heard
Cracking series! More, please….👏👏👏
This series has been an absolute joy to watch! Its beautifully shot, wonderfully unscripted, amazing cars, a great little track, some excellent induction and exhaust noises, and even some fun behind the scenes bits. And the funny little bloke from Bristol looks to be having fun to boot! Great work Chris and the Collecting Cars team. The best automotive videos on RUclips by a country mile. Massive Porsche fan... 6-cylinder engine noise pervert... but that i4 in the Alfa is nothing less that rawkus! LOVE IT!!
What a superb series. I’m a Porsche a Holic but that Alfa is stunning.
When I first got into cars, back in the early-mid 2000’s, I thought the best automotive noises were the Zonda, F430 and Enzo, or the Carrera GT.
Now that I’m old and jaded…give me the intake snarl of that Alfa any day. That’s so beautiful.
Been waiting for this one. I was picking my mate up from the warehouse next to the track that day and got there to hear the Alfa going round, it sounds absolutely amazing even from a distance. Lottery win car for definite.
Hands down, the best Car channel on RUclips!
🤜🤛
We want more Tuthill 911K content PLEASE ❤️❤️❤️
Theres such a thing as cars being too nice and me wanting them too much, and these are an example of that. They hurt me because i don't have them and theyre so nice.
It's really about time Chris bought an alfaholics
Both stunning cars and hard to choose! The 911 would probably get the nod from me as a Pcar fan. But that Alfa is so beautiful, so elegant and that induction roar.... Love your work Chris and the team.
Definitely agree, out of the whole line up you have there the Alfaholics car is the one for me 😍
I might have had a crisis watching the Alfa driving round 😍
Keep it coming!! Loving this series! Great comparison here, but that Alfa is just so amazing. Credit to Tuthill, but ill take the Alfa for 500 grand thanks.
Nothing much beats a 4 cylinder with one throttle per cylinder and wild cam profile. You can keep exhaust sound, I'll have NA intake roar every time.
Brilliant! Including the team in the shots is super cool!
Great video and overlays and I love the behind the scenes additions of the crew.
If i owned that Alfa, I would literally have the biggest grin plastered on my face till my dying days, enjoying every second of it. What a machine!! (In Chris's voice lol)
The two cars I would want to own and drive to events above all others so far.
thoroughly enjoyed llandow laps, really good content, love the behind the scenes parts, adds a comedic twist. Brilliant. Plus we get to see Harris doing what he does best
Any time I'm reminded of the Alfaholics GTA-R I feel compelled to watch Chris throwing one around in a previous Chris Harris Drives / Top Gear
Link for the uninitiated (as if there are any) ruclips.net/video/9BuZmJmpTdk/видео.html
I'll take the Alfa ANYDAY!!! 60s-70s sound. My Dad's Cortina MKII sounded like the Alfa. Brings me back to my early intros to cars.
That Alfaholcis exists is reason enough for me to buy lottery tickets..
That Alfa is gorgeous!
Without doubt my favorite Laps episode by far.
Mr Harris has some serious minerals throwing that Porsche around so confidently in the sopping wet. I know Mr Tuthill & Co can develop a very sound motor vehicle but by golly...
It said somewhere recently that there’s now a 9 years waiting list for the GTA
Brilliant, as always. As said in the comments. It feels like we are there.
I've got 5 gt Juniors , 2 Giulias and a one off round back spider , a GTV 6 and alfa sud Sprint Veloce . I've also got a mint 928 and 944 and Mk1 and MK 2 ford escorts with 400 hp a piece . The Trick GT juniors are way and beyond my favorites.
That Tuthill is the bollox and we all knew it would be... but that Alfa is fackin' rude. Love it. Love it. Love it. More Landau Laps please, Chris. Top Gear and The Grand Tour could learn a thing or two from you, Boss.
The Alfa for me all day. Back in the 1990s I parted out a South African GT Jr, I've regretted it ever since.
I had a perfectly drivable 73 GTV 2000, and I sold it for almost nothing 😢I guess that like most of them from here (SA too), it ended up making its way to the UK
@@shaneeardley5269 We all have things we've sold that haunt us. I wish that GT Jr was in my walk-out basement on a rotisserie being restored. And that I had the money to throw all the Alfaholics goodies at it. I have the crazy idea to modify a GTV with an Alfetta transaxle, that would give it a 50/50 weight distribution and low unsprung weight. I had an Alfetta and a Milano, both handled very well.
@@shaneeardley5269 I'm in the US, not SA, the car was from South Africa. Don't know how it got to the US.
Great way to start a weekend morning, how could you not be in a good mood after watching this video?
Everything modern cars aren't and that's why they're so great.
Phenomenal show - this is A* grade tv quality but with the engagement you can only get from being on RUclips
Let's test a couple of top notch restomods in the pissing wet in Wales- their owners sure as hell won't... Still I watch because: Chris Harris. Next, motorbikes in the snow!
Sacrilege! Running that Alfa in wet British weather and NOT coated in Alfa red is unforgivable! Other than that, amazing video and absolutely brilliant cars. Great work, gents.
Brilliant short series. We need more please. I rewatched Chris on TG when he did his piece on McRaes 95 Impreza, any chance of some more videos like that. Lots of great period footage qnd history with some hot laps from the maestro at the end.
Cool video! Nicely shot action and Chris Harris is a star!
Please can we have a purely Alfa on board lap uploaded with the induction sound
Wonderful series Chris and the team. Good god that Alfa 😅😋 thanks for the entertainment.
Great series 👏
Perfeito a forma como a produção se envolve, bem mais orgânico e animado que muitos canais que eu vejo por aí
Awesome work Chris and team - thank you for Llandow Laps - great craic 😍
JUST what a yank needed on a cool misty Sunday morning. . .
This series is getting back to the Chris Harris on Cars levels content wise!! I was all over that Alfa then he launched the Porsche! It’s got proper ‘74 2.8MPi vibes!!!!
Is it just me or do these slow time down, such beauty, information, and skill wrapped into an episode that feels like 20 minutes… but it’s only a bit short on 13
This video is pure magic.
great video again - thank you guys
I would like to thank the rich people who spend these crazy amounts of money on these works of art.
Love the way you guys put this show together. I can't wait for the next group of cars.
Don't care about the times, the Alfa, all day long.
The Alfa just puts a grin from ear to ear though.
Can't wait for season 2 in the dry
Two absolute dream cars in my book. Thankfully i think i will never need to make a decision between the too and i will just continue to wrestle my solid axle defnder around corners 😁😉
Still a blast to watch 🎉
Christ, I'd have trouble choosing. Both are just FAB !
I really love the approach you guys take to presentation. The mix between the behind-the-scene/blooper reel and the interactions with the film crew is quite different different but much appreciated.
I've been loving the series so far, keep it up guys job well done. 👍🏽
Chris has been over the moon every time he drives an Alfaholics car. If he hasn't already, he really needs to add one to his garage - save a couple of quid and get a steel bodied one.
On the lap, when a 911 squats down on its rear to accelerate out of a corner, it just isn't fair.
I loved when Chris called out RT for putting Chav LEDs on the 911 SC/RS
Put the two closest timed cars together when you have finished matching a bunch. Love this series, even with Harris in it, lol. 😉😊
They are both gorgeous
Lovely. Thank you.
Yes Chris realy enjoyed the comparison between the two. As a matter of fact been waiting for you to do it for a year or so since you did the comparison on the other Alfa a couple of years ago.
John Norman racing here in Albany California is a shop I think you would very much enjoy with old English shop setting that been that way forever, and there a Alfa shop that does engines for National race teems in Formula Atlantic, at lest the last time was in there a few years ago, they were still there.
I can just see there's some man named 'Thomas' sitting on a toilet watching this like 'GODDAMN MAN'..
A video featuring the most gorgeous car ever built, and a Porsche
That Alfa could be a minute slower and I'd still want it. My god!
Both cars are amazing and beautiful 💯😜
What a great video!
Would always pick the GTA-R
Great work dude, damn fine.
The best LL yet!!!
