Aston Martin DB12 vs BMW M5 CS | Chris Harris Presents - Llandow Laps

- In Episode 1 of Llandow Laps, Chris Harris takes to the track to pitch the Aston Martin DB12 against the BMW M5 CS. The Aston packs a mighty punch of 680PS from its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, helping to propel it to a top speed of more than 200mph - but it puts that power down through the rear wheels only. The BMW is heavier and less powerful, but all-wheel drive gives the car phenomenal traction, and a supercar-baiting 0-60mph time.
The DB12 looks like the definitive ‘grand tourer’, with generous coupe proportions and elegant styling. In Chris’ words, the M5 CS “looks like a taxi”, but it punches well above its numbers. Matching it up against a Ferrari or Maserati might sound more appropriate, but in Chris’ view, going head-to-head with the BMW represents “the ultimate test”.
Around a rain-soaked Llandow, the Aston’s weight helps it find grip, impressing Chris with the amount of power it can put down through and out of the corners. Will the BMW’s all-wheel drive help to level up to the DB12 around the circuit and belie its on-paper statistics? Watch Llandow Laps Episode 1 to find out!

Llandow Laps is our exciting new series, hosted by Chris Harris at the 'legendary' Llandow Circuit in South Wales.
The concept behind Llandow Laps is to pitch two vehicles from the same genre against one another to see which is faster; and the first series will feature grand tourers (with a twist), hot hatches, supercars, roadsters, and restomods.
As well as showcasing the cars’ performance on track, the films will also reveal the behind-the-scenes work required to produce the end result, introducing some of the personalities from the Llandow Circuit and the Collecting Cars team.
The science bit: All cars featured in Llandow Laps will be unmodified from the specification seen on screen, they’ll be running with a full tank of fuel, and they’ll be fitted with sensible tyres available on the road cars from the factory.
Lap times will be recorded, and a winner of each head-to-head will be revealed - although there’ll be more focus on the driving experience and character of the cars than on the numbers alone.

Gents this format is gold. Showing a bit of behind the scenes is a great call
Glad you like it!
Yeah, the whole tone and pace of the edit with yourself and the crew just kind of carried me along. Can't wait to see the rest of these (especially that Tuthill, good lord)
Totally agree. No waffle, slick, engaging, the full thing.
Yes!
behind*
Closest thing to Chris Harris on cars. I'm glued
We're glad you enjoyed!
Yes I agree and I was missing Chris’s shows
Yeah , I miss that .
its like Top Gear with out the Top Gear Chris Harris doing some hot laps!!!!!!! thank you we really don't need another drag racing channel anyone can drive a car straight.
This separates the men from the boy's
Our thoughts exactly 😉
Except Hammond.
😂😂@@uttherkunst3806
Just wish it didn't rain so much in England :')
This was fucking excellent. Beautifully edited and filmed, graphics looks amazing, perfect sound. Perfect mix of Chris Harris on Cars and Top Gear. Big props guys
Thanks so much! Great to hear this feedback. Lots more in store.
I am so incredibly excited for this series. I didn't think CC could get any BETTER!
More of this! Please don't feel any urge to be more top gear. Chris Harris on Cars is all we want!
And being a Videographer myself, I should point out just how amazing this media team is! The Videographers, producers, sound engineers, and editors are so important here. Well done!
Chris Harris is literally the best car journo in the world yet I see him almost the least online! Makes no sense but love this new content.
I hope this channel is so successful that Chris can buy another M5CS.
Solid content, bit fun, bit of behind the scenes, great production value.
Love it.
There's no way he can't. you're telling me that being a presenter for Top Gear, plus income from his side business CC for years now doesn't position Chris Harris as a millionaire? 😏
To sell a car he loved for financial reasons he wouldn’t lie about though @@divinasi0n
Don't fall for that silliness 😅
Literally just finished Chris's book today and its so cool to see his next reboot taking place in real time. Collecting Cars content is exactly the sort of thing we want i reckon.
wait.... what is chris' book??
@@jennyfromjapan it's called variable valve timings, recently came out and I really recommend it. Audiobook read by him as well if that's your bag. If you see this Mr Harris I hope my cheque is in the post 😉
It's a great book. Really puts his time at Top Gear into perspective
Yes! More filmed car content with Mr Harris. The M5 CS is one of the only modern BMWs that ticks the boxes for. Such a weapon. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Collecting cars podcast side note. Chris’s son sounds EXACTLY like his dad.
Keep up the awesome work.
Uhh m3cs and m4 csl
This is spectacular content. I know I speak for everybody when I say that we love seeing Chris talking to us like we’re old mates and that were part of the production. This was such an enjoyable episode and we are looking forward to more!
Imagine lending Chris your M5 CS and and hearing him say I never drove mine this hard 😂. Great stuff, looking forward to the physics bending GT3RS time. ❤
Collecting cars levelling up, again! Can’t wait for more
I wish you had done a lap with BMW in rwd mode just for a comparative time aswell as its awd mode.
Great video regardless guys
Would have been interesting to see the M5 in its two wheel drive setting as well
Agreed.
Yep. Missed opportunity here to show how much of the advantage was purely down to the AWD.
Nobody wants to see more m5 content. It’s the ugliest car
@@gazman9468you mean missed opportunity to see the BMW sideways for the whole lap.
It would have also been nice to see a few more corners, even the chicane is straight. I guess Llandow is fairly cheap to hire though and it is a business.
Enjoyable watch though having said that, easy for armchair commentators etc etc.
Great to see director Jon supporting Chris on the channel. Brilliant video
ah thanks man!! Very much appreciated!
Nice to have all the behind the scenes bits in there as well even Chris forgetting to put it in gear. Lovely and raw instead of being a polished film.
We don't appreciate how much work goes into these videos. Great effort guys, keep them coming 👏
Glad you enjoyed!
I'm loving the DB12. So much that I'm considering trading my 2015 Vanquish for one, the exact spec as the one in this video.
I wouldn't especially with your NA V12. I own a V12 DB11 and test drove the DB12. The DB12 puts down the power better and handled better and the interior is like Bentley designed it... but there was something missing. It was too good and way too quiet. It didn't scare me a little like an Aston should. I think those coming from the V8 DB11, it will be a big upgrade but if you have a v12 Aston, keep it.
It’s here! The ‘car show’ we’ve all been waiting for! The best bits of ‘that gear’ and nothing else! Chris and the team doing some epic driving in epic cars! THANK YOU CC TEAM!!!! ❤
Great show with track battles, proper description of the cars' behaviour and a lot of fun! 🏎
I'm writing this to juice engagement in whatever capacity it can for the simple assurance you keep making these.
I'll do the same then!
@js00065 hello algorithm, we are talking about this
This is so good, thats what we want and need from Chris. An awesome addition would be if you weigh the cars, as we all know manufacturers lied about their numbers.
Great editing work, loved the integration of BTS and more produced segments. Great work on this
This is it lads, this is what we've all been wanting. Collecting Cars smashing it, as always.
The grudge match footage is brilliant. Love the in-car stuff.
love the behind the scenes content running alongside the high production stuff
Graphics are great. Format is great. Love the bts stuff in the main edit. Great job everyone.
Absolutely made up to have a series to watch with Chris Harris again. The GOAT!!! Love it!!
Really happy this series has appeared! Nicely done. Will watch loads of these not just 5! Look forward to the next one
Glad you enjoyed!
The famous cooper boys making an appearance. Love it
Thanks, only realised after seeing this comment who they were. Mad given how much that lad sounds like his father 😂
Brilliant idea mixing behind the scenes with front of camera, gives a nice feel for what it takes to create these films. Great stuff, looking forward to the entire series.
Awesome looking forward to watching this series. The M5 CS is such a tool.
Top Work Chris & team. What we want to see. Great format. Plus a nice bit of the behind the scenes. Thoughtful matches by someone who really knows cars. Keep up the good work. Cant wait to see the rest of them (& series 2 !)
My local race track! Born and bred down the road from Llandow and had the pleasure of going around that track myself. Cracking video Chris! 👍😀
So glad we get more Chris Harris on RUclips again. Simply the best. One a week please (if not more).
Love the behind the scenes bits, graphics, video, sound, everything!
Great video and setup. Loved the crew bits, explaining their piece of the puzzle
Good job 👌
Hard to have the most spectacular circuit with a big sun especially in UK but this is not the most important.
Editing is good, narative is good, driver is good, cars are good, and at least the comparison is fair on that little lap.
Thanks 👍
This is a start of a great new series guys. Excited.
Congratulations. Keep it up.
One of my favourite episodes, love the format, good job 👍
Good to hear you voice again Chris I enjoyed that will stayed tuned and look forward to the next Thank you
The coopers are exactly as I expected them to be, wonderful video too
This is it! Absolutely great format, Chris' classic delivery and the behind the scenes footage is great.. Awesome edit, much more of this please!
Quality content. More watchable than any automotive programming currently on television. Bravo.
A class act as always. My favourite motoring journalist by miles. Nice one, Chris 👍🏻
Excellent format and production. Love the behind the scenes too makes me appreciate the effort and work that goes into these videos.
Really enjoyed that Chris. Love the format and the short behind the camera sections, keep it come pls.
You and Jason Cammisa are the only two people in motor journalism that I follow. Glad to see you came with something new, I like the format.
Brilliant, CH on cars is back! Nice to see the Cooper boys aswell, Chris mentions them so much on the Pod I feel like we should know them!
I thought it was great how much the boys sounded like their dad, the resemblance was uncanny!
So excited for this series! Absolutely brilliant episode!
Great to see you back on your own! Love this new format. Awesome driving as always.
Great - actually looking forward to the rest of the series.
Love this format! Nice work 👌🏼
Cannot wait for this whole series to unravel, great cars, my local track, and little Harris skidding about recipe for perfection
The highlight of the video was a surprise showing of your OG touring. Life isn’t fair indeed! Good advice
Brilliant format, keep em coming.
Brilliant video. Love the behind scenes stuff as it separates it from other content. That M5 CS is rapid!!
Nice to put faces to the oft mentioned “boys” of Mr Cooper
That was class. Really enjoyed that. Looking forward to the next episode.
This is the best content, Chris is a legend
Couldn't be more excited for a series or part 2 ..... or type a production from this guy more since that bmw barn find video from a few years ago
Gritty and honest video . Show us more of the back office staff please doing their magic gaffer tape and all 😅
Nice to see the boys from the podcast :D
Just what we needed ❤ love this new concept.
Yes I will watch anything with Chris Harris!
Yes lad, this was a belter of an episode 💯🔥😎👊🏻
Wow. Car channel doing what we’ve wanted to see for ages. And someone who can drive round corners not just do donuts to warm the tyres and go fast in a straight line. Love the podcast too. Bravo gentleman.
Ps. Send Manish around the track too for that James May effect. 😂
Thanks Chris and team ❤
Okay, you have my attention! That was great tbh, please do more!
It shows how much we miss this on normal telly, we need you back.
This channel is about to go to the moon!
Loved it. Glad to have this series.
I can’t wait for more of these. Fantastic content! Love the format too. More Chris Harris!!
Love this! More more more more more please! Could those Cooper Boys sounds more like their dad BTW?! 😄
Great show! As mentioned the AWD BMW had a huge advantage. The gap would have been much smaller if they did a flying lap instead of standing start and even smaller if it were dry
I remember seeing Chris’s M5cs at the dealership parked next to a black one when I was picking up my X5M, I seen it there with his name in the window. Awesome car, wish I owned one.
This was great, can't wait for next series!
I loved it! Great new format
best episode on this channel ... can't wait for next one
This is a great video especially the side by side ending 💯👌
Top Gear was the boys, without them it just doesn't work. Glad Chris is back on youtube, I was a big fan of your Chris Harris on Cars show.
That aerial view of Llandow makes me think they're missing so much potential to extend it in to the infield. Three Sisters in Ashton-in-Makerfield is a great example of using all the space available to produce a tight and technical track that serves a wide range of vehicle performance. My M3 is as much fun as a go-kart around there. Llandow could be much more than a mini Thruxton.
Harris on cars meets Top gear power laps with sprinkles of Tron for good measure. Love it.
We badly needed a standardized format for lap times. Especially driven by our favorite auto journalist.
Great to see you back Chris!! You really deserve your own show. Keep going 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
We really did miss Chris Harris on Cars. It was one of the best car shows on any platform. Please do more work. We will be waiting here.
Chris is a legend! Love this channel!!
Great video Chris and team and very slickly edited! These are two of my upmost fave cars & brands that you put head to head. One day I would love to own both, why you sold your one? lol. Awesome stuff! 🤣🤘
I love watching the effort of a fast lap more than drifting 👏
Thankyou thankyou thankyou, Planet earths' petrol heads salute you!! Exactly what we've all been waiting for. Very well done 😀
Chris & Llandow is just such a lovely lovely combo😫 you know you’re in for a hoot when you see a new video like that
Great format, it was nice being introduced to the team. Green cars with gold wheels for the win!
What a cool series. Keep it up!
Excited for this. Really really hoping for some more skids.
So bored of watching drag racing every single vehicle on that other channel on RUclips. This channel is like Topgear without any of the other bellends, Just Chris at his purest, doing competitive laps around in cars that actually matter. For the rest of this channel, he's amongst some very cool friends to accompany him 😎 👍
Exactly bro, carwow is too monotonous
This is so good. Love all the behind the scenes stuff. ❤❤
Chris Harris best top gear presenter since the perfect trio he’s the only reason I continued watching it. Very excited about this channel ❤
Love it. I would say that we're talking about a hand-built in the UK Aston Martin made in relatively small numbers vs the mass manufactured BMW. So cost wise, I would give the win to the AM. Visually the AM also wins hands down. 4 vs 2 wheel drive isn't apples for apples, which then makes the DB12's results even better (as Chris did say), but my go to question when buying a fancy car is... in 10 years time am I going to get excited about opening my garage to the BMW (German Taxi) or the Aston Martin? That being said if you've got kids or rob banks for a living, then I would go for the M5 all day long. My opinion anyway :)
