- The 2024 Aston Martin DB12 ($281,800 in Canada, $245,000 in the US) is finally here and is what Aston calls the world’s first Super Tourer. The V12 found in the DB11 has been left behind, and in its stead is an even more powerful twin-turbo V8 that makes 671 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Along with many new updates, such as stiffer torsional rigidity, all-new suspension, and an upgraded infotainment system, does the new DB12 deserve the title of Super Tourer? The undertones of wealth inequality has made it really hard to enjoy seeing cars like this anymore. These are toys to people who have never known struggle in their life.
Throttle House are hitting Clarkson era Top Gear levels of production these days. The filming and editing are of a remarkably high order and, as usual, the guys are both funny, even-handed and informative. A channel worth watching even when if the car being reviewed is not one that intrigues me.
They are brilliant, but I don’t think they are hitting the grand tour or Clarkson era top gear levels
@@smoothkebab I beg to differ. While I greatly enjoyed the golden era of Top Gear over time it began to mutate into a program increasingly focused on its hosts rather than the cars. Good as it was the cars were increasingly taking a back seat in a motoring show.
If you're wondering what other car review channels are missing... It's this, the sheer comedy and levity!
They've been there for years. It's amazing how small their team actually is. And they are amazing!
Not unlike the way Eon crap on the previous Bond whenever a new one is cast, that Aston big up the DB12 partly by saying how crap (unfit) the DB11 was, only makes me think - so if you were ripping off customers before with sub-par product, who can say you are not still doing it now?
I think the dog deserves a guest starring credit. Great work as always.

Throttle house has reviewed multiple cars where the review is actually higher quality than the manufacturer press footage. They’re just the best at what they do, though Savage geese comes close
IMO the DB12 is a great example of why you don't need to *re-invent* the wheel, just *improve* on it
Porsche keeps improving the 911, and they are lauded for it.....Aston Martin gets a totally different attitude from reviewers as they keep improving the "DB.

Aston Martin didn't want the confusion of having an 8 in the name with a car with a v12 thats why they skipped the DB8 to DB9 but i'm sure they are perfectly content if people make the mistake with this one
I wish I had the kind of money that could afford me to overlook such a massive detail due to a name, yet leave me feeling zero regret..
So basically "Our customers are morons... let's try not to confuse them any more than they already are..."

I've been watching for idk, 4 or 5 years now and can I just say man to men, I'm extremely proud of you guys and am honored to have watched you grow. they will never, ever, be the grand tour or top gear and they will never achieve what Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May did. But they are still really good. It's just that when you watch The Grand Tour or prime Top Gear, you don't like every other show because of how good they were. Throttle House isn't bad, but when you watch it you remember Top Gear or The Grand Tour, and you just think how better it could've been if both of those shows continued.
They FINALLY updated the interior. Now I can rationalize my fantasies about owning one.

During your drives, I couldn’t help relating your comments to the way my 2020 LC 500 feels and performs with 200 less horsepower at way less than half the cost of the DB12!! I know the LC is no DB, but it was surprising how similar your comments were! Cheers and keep up the great work!

@@Kronos0999 I agree. The interior is better but the exterior is too mannered. The most beautiful modern Aston ever made was the DB10. As slippery as a raindrop.
I don’t know why, but that shot at 12:19 felt really emotional; like the climax to the cinematic motif to this whole car. I’m still an armature now, but I wish I can grow and learn to express as much passion for cars as Thomas and James. Your best video yet guys, beautiful work.

Aston Martin has a heritage like no other. A brand unto itself. However, it is a shame that emissions removed their flagship V12 powerplant which really was the heart of the DB (David Brown) platform which gave Aston Martin its iconic sound and road presence. On a more positive note, the styling on this car is exceptional and we really owe respect to Lawrence Stroll for reviving the brand and ushering in a new period for the company, its F1 team, and all the new models to follow. Aston Martin is, once again, a competitor.
With a price tag north of a quarter million, they can afford to just pay the penalties for missing emissions.

Can you really say the V12 was the heart of the DB? The original DB1 had a straight four and every following DB till the DB7 had a straight six (which the DB7 also had). Only the DB9 and the last two DBS (first DBS was I6 and V8) were exclusively V12.

Is the front grille larger ? I barely can see any exterior changes which isn’t a bad thing in my opinion.

Cars are either functional elements that serve a purpose, or they manage to touch us emotionally in addition... which is infinitely more challenging. And the new DB12 has achieved the latter for me, even if to this day I'd rather have a non-digital front end option from Aston Martin for speedo and revs.

16:15 the reason they know to expect 4 updates is likely because in the development process there is like 4 target dates to complete different final aspects of the system, small features, revisions, and optimizations would be in the last few deliverable periods of a project like that

I got to say, I love the new interior and tech. From a technical point of view it is a step up compared to the DB11 no doubt.
But, in my opinion, I think the DB11 had a better exterior look. Don’t really like the front of this new one (specially the headlights) and, also, I do miss the V12.
Yup, it's too aggressive, the grille is too big. The 2013 DB9 remains the best-looking car of all time, but this has the better side and rear... If they just shrunk the front down a bit, they'd have a world-beater!

@@daemonkiller4920 Ever sat in or driven one? The interior, once you're close up, really is quite disappointing. My Jag XKR has a much higher quality interior that feels more premium. No... This is a huge step up with the DB12.
@@icedreamer9629 i agree on the interior, although i was a fan of the old steering wheel, but the rest is way too outdated. The exterior’s a downgrade in the DB12 in my opinion, they got rid of some things that really made it special

This legit feels like u get the dynamics of a ferrari but the luxury of a Bentley. Honestly amazing machine.
DB11 already was like that. Thats where Aston is putting their chips with their DB cars. Its a great spot since there really isnt much competition. Bentley has better luxury and comfort, but drives way worse. Ferrari/Porsche/Lambo etc all drive better and are more exciting, but dont have the comfort and luxury for touring. Aston's DB is the only car in this market segment that does both great (but not excellently like their more one-dimensional rivals). Its really about whether youre a glass half empty or half full kind of guy

Excellent video review, as usual. I'm with Thomas on the grill size. Why do all cars have to look like some form of Baleen Whale these days? The grill should be just large enough to allow for proper cooling, and of course, offer the unique shape to the brand. I am honoured and proud to see two men from little old Ontario Canada (James you are now a transplant!), become the world standard in Car testing and cinematic video production! Awesome, awesome, awesome!

This is such an amazing car, that interior is the greatest success I have seen in a long while, but there's something about this Aston that I just love 🥰 I think I like this more than the Ferrari Roma, more than a 911 Turbo for sure! ❤️
Also, this gen "DBS" is going to be called "Vanquish" because they always alternate between DBS and Vanquish :),
I had the Roma and liked it. My drawback was the size. If it had the dimensions of the DB 12, I think it would’ve been the perfect grand tourer.

only teens and pre-teens can love a 911 turbo. That's neither a true gran tourer nor it is a supercar. It is just a 911 with supercar performance. Even if from a price POV, it is in the same class as this Aston.. in reality, it is a totally different proposition.

‘Monte Carlo rally stage’ aka Col de Turini
Drove it a couple of weeks ago and the best mountain road ever imo. Epic scenery, every type of corner both hairpins and sweepers, and superb road surface. Every drivers dream.
If you ever get the chance then do it, even if it’s not in the gorgeous DB12

To my eyes the DB9 GT is still the best looking car Aston has made, but this is a close second. I don't like the giant grill but this looks better than the DB11 in every other way. Now they absolutely must put a V10 or V12 in it.
The DB12 is as amazing as DB9 Coupe.
I will never understand why people have this need to place their key anywhere in the car. Keep it in your pocket. It's keyless start. The whole point is to bring your key with you and not having to fiddle with it to lock/unlock or start/stop the car.

Aston Martin is unbelievably underrated as a whole.
By the price, I think they are rated appropriately. They always seem to have many minor issues that become major as a sum when you consider how much money they are asking for.
@@Infinityflow0I think they mean the public perception of them. No one can ever look past those small issues and it’s the only thing people ever focus on. Compare that to a brand like Tesla that is also riddled with faults often very serious and people over look them just because its Tesla
@lbnewell23 I agree that tesla should get more criticism for their overall quality. However, Aston Martin is in a completely different price bracket and for a different demographic.
I think they are appropriately rated. Even though they were making some of the most beautiful exteriors with great engines, their interiors and tech integration were just total garbage. A bad interior is a dealbreaker no matter how good the rest of the car is executed. This new gen fixes a lot of their interior woes.
The production quality and cinematography just keep getting better and better. And of course the humor was top notch since the beginning. Keep up the great work guys!
