Hey Chris, you're videos are fantastic of course, but i'd like to make a suggestion aside from my usual "race em like they do on Best Motoring!!!!". My suggestion is to give us a "tour" of the cars. We love everything about cars including their design. So i think if you were to spend 5 minutes or less at the start of the videos walking us around the cars and sharing a few unique details about them it would take the videos to the next level.
oh, yeah, the cars. Well it's simple: 1) Car to drive on track = Buy GT3 RS 2) Car to drive at weekends = Buy Aston 3) Car to drive every day = Buy 650s
Unless the Porsche is a manual, i don't see how it would worth so much, maybe equally as valuable as the Aston, but not more imo. But then we're talking a decade, and who knows hows the market then :)
+boy638 But the Aston isn't a manual either, is it? It all depends on what direction Porsche and Aston choose in the future. If this is the last time either of them offer natural aspiration, these are possibly the safest ivestment you can make right now.. I just know that certain Porsches have exploded in value, more so than any Aston. Cars such as the 993 GT2, 993 Turbo S, 997 GT3 RS 4,0, and indeed the 918..
You're right many Porsches are shooting up in value but then again Porsche made so many variants of them, while Aston made so little collectors-worthy limited cars such as the GT12 in their already tiny model range in the first place. I don't think the 991 RS will be as valuable in the future because the 991 is still so new and there no doubt will be many more limited RS variants or similar ones in the distant future. The Vantage on the other hand is going to be replaced in a couple of years and I have read somewhere that Aston will only release one or two more limited edition Vantage like this GT12 before the replacement arrives. So i guess those future ones are the ones to get if the technical changes are as substantial as the GT12. Just like how the very final 997 RS 4.0 is the one that's shooting up in value while the 997 RS is maintaining value at best and it needs to be manual to be upping the value.
+boy638 Dude even the old 996 and 997 "regular" GT3s are maintaining their value, and some are already going up. The RS models are already skyrocketing. This GT3RS is one of the best Porsche has ever made. It's being built in very limited numbers. It will skyrocket in value. Mate here's a 2010 997 GT3RS for sale: www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/911-gt3-997/porsche-911-997-gen-ii-gt3-rs-2010/4827396 Here's a brand new "regular" GT3: www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/911-gt3-991/porsche-991-gt3-rhd--delivery-miles-vat-q-car/4236860 The 5-year-old GT3RS is already picking up.
+Arya Ahmadi How exactly am I a troll? I've left Chris Harris a positive comment but typed too quickly and switched two letters around. You've then decided to call me a muppet but I'm the troll??? I suggest you find something better to do with your Saturday nights than leave shitty comments about other peoples obvious and irrelevant spelling or autocorrect mistakes.
love the longer videos. i get so excited when i get a notification saying Chris has uploaded a new video. to sit in a car with you would be unreal. sicker than bactroban.
Chris : Best Motoring Journalist .... period, not even a contest! From tiny cars over luxury to real sports cars and monsters. Eloquent, fluid, gentle, enthusiastic, driven, capable, respects and is respected. Good on you Chris, and thank you for sharing all that with us. And that is not poppyc*ck!!
I absolutely love your videos. You keep your head about you and justify your opinions with thought process. Thanks Chris and everyone else who helps produce these videos!!!
+john marsh The GT3 RS and GT12 are factory cars, though. I'm not suggesting they take such trickery as far as Ferrari but they'll be fully fresh examples. Maybe customer cars of those would be even further behind on a track?
+boy638 Absolutely. My experience with the 458 Speciale is that in bumpy mode, its superbly supple on UK roads, puts its power down with almost unbelievable confidence and covers massive ground very very quickly. It's also a bit more dramatic and emotive than the McLaren. I'm not suggesting for a second that I don't find the 650S to be a superb car, but my gut feeling is that the 458S is just that little bit better.
Chris, I think you're probably one of the best things to happen to the internet ever. Thank you for making some down time extremely enjoyable, I so look forward to your videos. Please keep it up.
+ahpadt What does a grape say when you step on it? Nothing. It just lets out a little wine. The point of a car being "too good" it becomes boring is true. People do not buy supercars because they're comfortable or to feel relaxed; that's what a DD is for. They should be as wide as a London bus so when you drive through a gap unscathed you feel elated. Suspension which pulverises your body to a pulp so when you rest it feels like you've just completed 12 rounds with the champ etc. For 95% of supercar owners lap times are nothing more than bragging rights in the pub because they will never dare set foot on them. Instead they resort to the experience of being special/young/007... (take your pick) with every day driving which is part of the reason why some cars are in high demand and others aren't. Awesome review as always Chris!
this is nearly half an hour of the most beautiful, cinematograhic, exciting and informing content out there. This is an incredible performance. Mr Harris, you are in top shape. the words are just so different from everyone and the driving is just so good and fun. And Mr Carey, these images are getting National Geographic-level stunning. This whole thing is phenomenal.
My dream car, for as long as I can remember, has been a GT3 RS of any vintage. This fantastic piece of journalism just changed that, I now desire a 650S. Well done Chris and everyone else involved, you just altered, in a profound way, the zeitgeist of my consciousness. Wow.
Seems like the issue of residual values is being (purposefully) ignored here. Yes it's absurd how much people are paying for a 991 RS now BUT it's worth keeping in mind that the "extra" you pay isn't actually gone. If you want to sell it afterwards you'll get most of it back, maybe even with interest. Nobody can predict the value of these cars in 5 or 10 years' time obviously but clearly you're not really spending/destroying the surplus money that goes into the RS. If you look at how the modern Maccas are depreciating (a 12C for examplecan be had for a good 100 grand English money now) then the "value" comparison is absolutely invalid unless you want to buy one of these cars and hold on to them until you die or wreck it. You should look at cost of ownership including depreciation over the course of a few years and then, basically, you might end up noticing that the McLaren is the one that loses you 100 grand while the 991 holds close to what you paid for it.
+JCviggen1 here comes the expert. lets do a little present value analysis and please explain how you derived your discount factor haha. just joking, you have a very valid point and i am glad someone explains this!
+Loki Ronin I was actually amazed when I looked up the numbers how expensive even the 997 RS are now. A few for sale at 200-250 grand but not many. If you bought it new you just about doubled your money. RHD in particular, a few LHD cars in Germany that can be had for 150 but still. 30 Macca MP4-12C for sale on Pistonheads from 110K.
I love the gt3s, especially the 997 mk2 but it is absolutely crazy how they have appreciated. my father always told me that cars are an expense and not an investment :D
I have personally seen 991 turbo S models with every upgrade sell at the used lot on the Porsche dealership sell for $160k that same car sells for $250k new! Only the "special" limited models actually retain any value. If you want any more proof go to the dealer yourself and compare the models on the new lot and those on the used lot, you'll see how ridiculous the price just drops in 1-2 years.
Had to comment again, I really appreciate how you compare these cars to the used market. I go through the same mental process when thinking about cars.
I mean, your math is broken, and I highly approve of the game u played with it. I am not a Porsche fan boy but the classic shape is just so powerful. So surprised by the performance of the aged Aston
Genuinely one of the greats. The creative presentation, the passion, the concepts. And then the bizarre attempts at grounding such a scene in reality. Brilliance. Thank you Mr Harris. Brightening my day, always a safe haven on a stormy day.
Although pretty much all of Chris' video's are great, I've been missing these longer old school Chris Harris supercar video's. Best in the business by far! Love the focused/slightly scared expression on your face @ 8:52
+BigA 65 All the 675LT's soon sold out. Even Jenson Button couldn't have one (so must make do with his P1, poor fella). But given the choice I'd go for the 675LT too.
+BigA 65 You can't, thats the problem. And the next problem is that so many people don't give a shit if its 250.000 or 500.000€/$/£. But the people that would really drive it on the track can't get one because some arabs or guys that only want to show off on youtube easily pay the extra. A few years ago Porsche said something like 80% of their GT customers take their cars on the track, thats not the case anymore.
+SoCalSupercars Well, with the current rates that is indeed £250,000. That's definitely insane, honestly, I would go for the Aston, that sound... Especially considering the fact we will probably not see these NA V12s in the future, and currently there are only 3 V12s in production.
Even with slightly scrubbed tyres, the fact that the lighter and vastly more powerful McLaren is only 0.1 seconds faster around a track than the Porsche is insane! Bravo Porsche.
Chris you are the motoring journalist of our time. I can't anywhere near afford one of these beauties but the vicarious pleasure i get watching you drive and your enthusiasm makes my day that little bit better. Now go do another skid :)
will probably be late to work in the morning in order to stay up and watch this....worth it. Chris Harris is the king of reviews. Not to be outdone by Neil who's an ace behind the camera. I personally feel the GT3 RS is more special to look at than the other two, but you know what they say about opinions.
+marriots He said forget about investment value pretty clearly so he didn't miss that point at all. I think you may have missed it. Anyway as said above. If your seriously considering a 650S and are worried about depreciation, the 675LT would solve all your problems. If you can get one, much like the GT3RS & the Aston.... but I have a feeling your not actually looking to buy one of these.
These are the kind of videos that exemplify that Chris is the best car reviewer in the world right now. Just upped my Patreon amount to keep these kind of videos coming.
porsche with race tyres vs McLaren with shit tyres and the McLaren still wins while being more comfortable in every way, better looking and less of a faf.
+Light Yagami Do you guys know meybe how tires BMW M4 GTS using ?, it has 500 hp like that Porsche and it has 3.0 i6 engine. It schould beat that Porsche
Whilst I love all your videos Chris, I have to make the point that whist you say the GT3 RS is a £250,000 car, it actually isn't is it? Porsche are retailing it at £150,000. The fact that they could have sold 3 or 4 times the number they will produce is a testament to the desirability of the car and that the very rich are willing to pay £250,000 for one also says a lot too. The simple fact is, the GT3 RS is, largely, an analogue car, naturally aspirated and has character (like the Aston). I have no doubt that the 650 is 100% competent and much quicker (well it should be- it has 150 bhp more so no rocket scientist needed to work that out), but it looks and sounds, well, sterile to me. Horses for courses I say, but if I were the rich man I would, oddly enough, buy the GT3 RS. But I am not rich, so can't....!!
+Paul Nichols The GTRS is largely analogue? Lol. It does have the electronic four wheel drive and the electric four-wheel steering maybe. There's the electronic double-clutch paddle gearbox, the electronic dampers, the electronic differentials (x 2) and the electronic stability control assisting the 4wd. There's also the electronic fuel injection, the electronic ignition, the fly-by-wire throttle and, and the tricky program which adds clunks when it's idling so it sounds like a race car. I'll agree that apart from these it's basically analogue though.
Yes it does. But from what I have read from people that have driven it, it has an analogue feel to it. The electronics do not have to interfere with the experience.
Matt Canipe You don't know that. McLaren say they beat it. And they even made a youtube channel about it. Also the P1 won Auctocar's drag race, and beat it round the track with EVO and theSUPERCARDRIVER. I love the 918 but its clear after losing three tests against the P1 is faster.
+Will James highly credible sources have told me, Kris Singh would know. The 918 was faster than the LaFerrari and P1. the Aventador SV was also faster than The LaFerrari and P1 around Nurgburg. thats exactly why the never posted their laps and Porsche did and so did Lamborghini. sorry to destroy your dreams.
+Will James What are you talking about? Mclaren won't release an official Nurburgring time for the P1 for obvious reasons - it was slower than the Porsche. It doesn't take a genius to work that out. The Porsche was also faster in EVO's and Motor Trend's tests, all while being much heavier, having less power, and having the roof off.
+TheFlyingPineapple just read his original comment, he's obviously biased towards McLaren. That's why he specifically targeted Porsche. He must not realize that the 911 GT3 RS being $50k-$100k less than the 650s was less than a second slower around the track than the 650s. if anything, that shows how much better the Porsche is for the money.
masterfully executed and produced. you two are reinventing the entire game here. i am very proud to be a contributor to the ever increasing production quality.
His commentary is exemplary in this episode. Showcases why his personality is so magnetic and reviews so entertaining. Strange world we live in, indeed. Great job as always!
Just have a look at the track map, most are straight lines, the 650 S will eat them both alive. Anyway, I 100% agreed his description on McLaren. I agreed, Porsche is too focusing on stuffs, the Porsche 911 Turbo S is for GT and the GT3 for track... I actually think the 911 Turbo S is much more capable than both GT3 and GT3 RS on race tracks and roll. McLaren 650 S is kind of a rival for both Turbo S and GT3. Good job McLaren. It'll be awesome if they add a limited slip diff, roll bar and ABS ;) I McLaren does have the softest and smoothest damping compare to all supercars. I didn't test it but I saw the suspension specification and other reviewers described it in the same way.
+NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 The McLaren does have ABS, what are you talking about. And there's already a model which has the roll bar, which is the 675LT (essentially the track-version of the 650S).
I don't know if it's the brake booster or what, the 650 S just can't brake as soon as most cars, included Camaro Z28 from 60-0. So.... and roll bar? Yeah 675 does have but P1 and 650 S don't.
+NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 Lol, 60 to zero is too slow, pretty much just the tires determines that braking distance - the McLaren has a massive aero brake, it's designed for stopping from 120-0.
+NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 Poor comparison, different price points and hp and intended purpose. RS is more fun car to drive and if I had to pick of these two, RS would be my choice hands down, its more exciting and is more valuable. Speed inst everything just look at gtr, its no where near as fun to drive or as engaging and precise as a turbo or gt3. RS does that better than anyone at 500hp. "too focusing on stuffs"??????? LOL
SydneyCBR6 The aero brake is pretty much useless at 60 mph... Also, watch Motor Trend P1 vs 918, the ABS isn't working well, the car drives like it doesn't have an ABS. The front keep rotating at different speed and the brake booster seems not allowing any hard braking. It does deigned for 120-0 mph but that's just the aero part, it's the tire that get the job done but the instability causes less braking and imbalance handling under braking.
Fantastic. Sat glued to my screen from start to finish. Fantastic cars (minus the paddles), fantastic driving and fantastic production. Top notch, top quality. You guys really amaze me and everyone with content like this. Keep up the good work, can't wait for more!
I understand that if buying new, the Mclaren will probably be a better buy if you pay the same. But when the mclaren is a year old, it has dropped 50k in price, but the porsche hasnt dropped a dime in price. I'd buy a porsche, I like the wing :D
Yeah. The LT will probably be a better buy considering it will not depreciate as much. The only concern is that IF porsche ever goes back to having manual available in the next GT3/GT3RS for example - The 991 model will dump in prices rapidly - Hence the GT4 being so limited. If it had been a not limited model, it would have outsold the GT3. People love them Manuals
+Doggepp He said if you forget about your investment head and look at the actual cars themselves. If it's your depreciation you're worrying about then look no further than the 675LT that thing will hold it's money and totally slap pretty much everything available around a track other than the hyper cars. I love the Porsche, I love the Aston, I like the McLaren. I think if I had a quarter of a mill, which I don't I would want the Aston, it looks the nuts and the sound... the sound! Being sensible, I couldn't pay that much money for a Porsche unless it was someone elses money or I won the lotto haha!
Well - He says that they are that expensive because you can not get one, and have to buy one "second hand" (the same goes for regular GT3's You can drive them for 6 months, and then sell them for what you bought it for, or even more depending on spec) - As for now - I guess the books are filled with buyers for at least the next 2-3 years For the RS. But since we are just speculating anyways - Lets say they were available - I would choose a GT3 RS over the other two. The looks, the sound. I get mesmerized by the GT3 and GT3 RS. I would even choose a regular GT3 over the other two, a big Porsche fanboy here. I would though, have a P1 over a 918.
As an original NSX owner, I appreciate the on-camera debate you had there about "can the McLaren be too-good?" or too-composed on the road for a supercar (as was much of the early criticism of Honda/Acura's offering). My wife and I just covered ~2200 miles including a track day last weekend and the answer is "No". There is nothing wrong with a car that is quite capable and fun on a circuit being able to settle-down and get you home without needing your spine adjusted or kidneys replaced when you get there.
+mugdays some tracks the P1 is faster, some tracks the 918 is faster. Both are exceptional cars. The 918 fairs better on slower tracks (better traction off tight corners) where as the P1 fairs better on faster tracks.
It's a stupid test actually,he's comparing a resale value car price to a factory car price, car prices fluctuate,if the 650's resale price goes up to 1 million,do you think it's a good idea to compare it to a 918 on a track? NO.
+anglovirtual as I explained in another post.. on my porsche GT2 the difference between street tires and r compounds comparable to MPSC2 were 5-6 seconds !
The GT3 RS is a light track focused car with sticky tires specifically made to do fast laps.. But it's beat on its own game by a comfortable hard top convertible supercar on standard road tires that are slightly faded. I absolutely thought the Porsche would win this and like Chris mentioned I thought it would only be fair to use mclaren's track focused car (675 LT) in this comparison. I can't believe you aren't impressed that the mclaren won despite the bad tires. Just imagine what it would do if it was on good tires.
Chris, thanks for this amazing content. Your stories and discriptions make me feel like i've driven all of these cars. No doubt that you are the best presentator around here (by miles)!
It's not Porsche's fault the GT3 RS is going for $400,000. Porsche made it as a $180,000 car, the mark up does not make it comparable to cars like the Aston and the Mclaren. That logic is simply stupid. With that said, the fact that the $180,000 RS can hold a candle to those cars is a true testament to the quality of these 911s.
+ewt415 bravo you got it exactly to the point. I buy my GT3RS for 150.000 GBP, so 100.000GBP less than the Mac Laren- in my view, they do not compete any more, and still the Porsche does approximately the same times on track ( and is reliable) I spent a day invited by MacLaren at the track and 5 out of 12 cars broke down during that test day - it convinced me not to buy one eventhough I totally enjoyed the ride as such.
Terrible comparison. Would you compare a 20 year old Ferrari to the 650S because they're the same market value? No, but if you're doing a "value for money" test (what this is), then let's acknowledge the 650S is a terrible investment because of its rapid depreciation! The GT3 RS was never designed to compete with a 650S. The rapid appreciation is a testament to how special the Porsche is.
+thechosendude No, Hype drive the Porsche market just like the GT4, GT3, older GT2's, 996 gt3 and turbo s, older 964/965 turbos, turbo s and flatnose turbo s, 993 tt/s, 930's, cgt, 959, ETC.. its in a faux bubble.... How do I know? I own a very rare RUF R-GT2!
+thechosendude I think you're missing the point a little. The premise is that we're talking about cars purchased by people who can because they want to. However, the original versions of the Porsche and Aston - even within their category of customer - is probably bought based on budget. So I think the point Mr Harris is making is that, in presenting the Spec'd up propositions in the video, Aston and Porsche have ventured into Mclaren territory with these cars. Therefore, would an owner of the original stretch to these "specials" on the basis of affordability or Brand loyalty? Or is it likely that whoever purchases these cars just don't care about value for money? If they don't, they'll buy whatever they want. But if value for money is a criteria, then surely it's worth comparing others in the same price category. You say the GT3 wasn't built to compete with the Mclaren. But wasn't the GT3 built for speed, trackdays and fast road driving? Yet, this test makes the point that the Mclaren is faster , more comfortable on road and offers an all round better driving experience. So the two cars are inevitably competing even if this wasn't the intention of the manufacturers. Having said the above, I would seriously consider the Aston over the other two purely on the basis of character. There is something about the feedback that a car gives to the driver which makes the experience that more memorable. To me it seems that the Aston offers this most in comparison with the other two, yet still offers just enough comparable performance to press all the right buttons.
2002RM "So I think the point Mr Harris is making is that, in presenting the Spec'd up propositions in the video, Aston and Porsche have ventured into Mclaren territory with these cars." I'm going to stop you there, because that's just not true. Porsche never set out "to venture in McLaren territory" with the 991. But why is it that the Porsche does not get a pass for market value, yet previous high-demand cars do get a free pass? When the Nissan GTR first hit dealerships, they were selling for >50% over sticker price because of demand...yet the media/journalists still were using it's MSRP price as basis for comparison.
***** Where do you live? Have you seen the going rate of a 12C these days? It's bad enough McLaren knocked 100k off the car. The 650S is following suit. McLaren has said their objective is to release new variations/models every 1-2 years as a way to reward "brand loyalty" - meaning, they just want to keep selling to the people who keep coming back. This philosophy only hurts value of previous editions.
+thechosendude because the market value is faux... It's brought on by hype in this crazy new modern market... Think about all the cars that had their praise, think about 997 RS! Even the 4.0 didn't blow up until the past year or two. This new market isn't real, it's set by strictly and solely car investors that aren't true enthusiasts. I know plenty of them personally and have called them out in their hype buying and flipping if cars, these are guys with wealth who are simply bored and feel cool getting the latest reiteration and flipping! I know 3 rs's flipped in the past month by people I know in the car world down here in Florida, and guess what, now they aren't getting anymore spots! Blacklisted Car world is so diff now a days from in the last when I was heavily into track/racing and gatherings It's a shameRS is an amazing machine The comparison means that the RS has gotten into the realm of Mclaren price wise, so therefore for a logical buyer, would you buy lesser for more?i didnt
So a 500hp non carbon car only loses 0.13 sec against a high tech supercar. It's not Mclaren who shows what they can do but Porsche does. Lol give it 650hp and the Mclaren would be left behind by seconds. It's easy, the porsche wins hands down, give it the technology of the Mclaren and it would annihilate the 650s. Weird that Chris Harris doesn't see this...
Still, for such a high tech car it's a very close call. less weight and far more hp and torque so even with used tires on the Mclaren it's amazing what porsche achieves with the RS. it doens't have turbo's, advanced carbon monocoque, fancy materials for everything and the engine is in the back (good traction, not so good balance). I'm not saying the Mclaren is a bad car ;-). I'm just saying i'm stunned at what porsche manages to do with a car that is inferior to the Mclaren in every single way :-).
No i'm just saying that if you compare the technology of the Mclaren to the tech of the Porsche and then translate this to giving the porsche that exact same tech level - turbo's, carbon everything, and awesome engineering i bet it would do quiet well :-). is the Mclaren a good, even epic car? Yes i'm sure, but when you get the facts together what the GT3 RS can manage against - again - a superior car is stunning :-), now make it the same in terms of weight, hp, torque, turbo's and a little of porsche know how in GT racing and yes it's bye bye Mclaren :-).
I think this review is highly biased towards mclaren.GT3rs beaten 458 speciale which is significant faster than 650s.And why you didnt showed lap times from inside car? This is nice commercial from Mclaren nothing more
The guy has a long term loaner car from McLaren. So he decided to use it. No need to be so sensitive about it. And if the Porsche did manage to beat the Ferrari in a test, give details for context. Tracks vary wildly.
Wishwader you can watch EVO leaderboard.Around are videos in which even GT3 destroy 650s on track like video from 2014 best drivers car.And why he compared 650s that is old car now to something like GT3 RS?becouse he wanted to ''prove'' 650s is better than probably the best sports car at this moment.
With reviews and tests like these, and the passion he has for these machines we love, Chris Harris has very well cemented himself as the best car reviewer currently out there IMO
No, McLaren just make exceptionally good cars. The only bias in Chris Harris vids is tiny variations in how much he loves each car. A true enthusiast. I trust his integrity above the vast majority of journos. All this "I'll leave a comment questioning the content creator's integrity because they stepped on my sensibilities" gets old fast.
+maxmavrick7 Chris doesn't need to fuck around like that. Most reputable manufacturers would be honoured to have him drive their cars. And would Chris really risk ruining his reputation like that for a video? In our current age of information sharing technologies the truth is never far away. or so I hope.
Happy with the outcome here. I LOVE the McLaren. I love how it's just the best thing out there above and below its class and nothing really comes close. I like seeing the P1 and the 650S win again and again.
Mr Harris, I solute you. The best car journalist of the lot. Your videos and driving are incredible and there's nothing better than waking up on a cold, frosty Saturday morning watching you slide nearly £1 million quids worth of tin round some corners.
Great review as ever. Loving the BPW T-shirt Chris. Rode there yesterday and secretly hoped it was your 14 plate RS6 I parked behind. Terry's Belly blew my mind.
WOW! First one to comment on a fantastic piece of entertainment like this! I guess everybody was too stunned to comment. Had a great time Chris, I have a 997.1 turbo of 600BHP and I am still drooling on these 3 pieces of art you presented! Thank you !
Thanks for the rides Chris, very interesting. You are the best. We love you in Toronto. Please do come over for a pint sometime! :) This episode is inculcating within me new feelings for McLaren. Unfortunately this a relationship I shall probably not (unlike yourself) have the opportunity to consummate. Thanks again for allowing us in to your world, if only for a few blissful moments. Cheers!
Chris you are the man, when it comes to driving high powered cars sideways! Just Love it. I only wish I had some of your talent...My main problem's, I'm too Old and too Fat. Been watching you Hooning around circuits sideways for years now. Shredding tyres, whilst simultaneously bouncing the engine off the rev limiter! When you want to know what a car is like at 99%, leave it to Chis.
If you have lots of money, the decision is simple. 650S for everyday use, Vantage for events and hearing that engine sound, and GT3RS for track use. If only 1 car can be bought, I think I'd choose the McLaren to use everyday everywhere.
Like you said, the Aston and Porsche both amazing in their own right and probably extremely special. But it really puts things in perspective that for the same money, you can have a car that is simply better on every front. It's faster on track, doesn't ruin the chance of you ever having children on the road and I would argue (having driven a 12C recently) that the power is so usable in McLarens that it's almost scary. In fact, using your imagination a little bit, I'd argue you could use a McLaren every day. And I personally love how elegant it is compared to a Ferrari 488 for instance.
I love and appreciate the fact that Chris Harris is unbiased and technical, remembering to acknowledge huge factors like tires that many other people completely leave out.
+DaScheau Pfff, this was a failed test,he is testing resale value price to another car's factory price, would you also compare an old Ferrari that sold for 1 million against a Bugatti Veyron? FAIL
fuck, it's 3 am and i have class in 5 hours, but i must watch chris harris!
+IShoNoHonor IM NOT ALONE!!! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
This comment is so damn on point lolol

Fantastic video Chris, good to see you enjoying these McLaren things...!
Shmee is happy to see his car here
+Shmee150 It's a shame it wasn't blue, right?
Sorry Tim, had to do it.
+Shmee150 Would be awesome to hear your thoughts on the new 570s v 650s. Great channel by the way!
The Aston sounds better and looks better!
@@TopStrikerMaverickbut it bad
Hey Chris, you're videos are fantastic of course, but i'd like to make a suggestion aside from my usual "race em like they do on Best Motoring!!!!". My suggestion is to give us a "tour" of the cars. We love everything about cars including their design. So i think if you were to spend 5 minutes or less at the start of the videos walking us around the cars and sharing a few unique details about them it would take the videos to the next level.
+Stevo1361 Every other car reviewer does that, you can just watch them. What makes Chris different is all this stuff he does!
That's a good idea, like he did in his FF video!
He did it in the P1 video as well. He does it but just not all the time.
+Stevo1361 agree (y)
+Stevo1361 Chris. Disregard this comment. We like what you do. I don't want to watch another version of a Motor Trend review.
that rear seat camera angle... YES! more of that!!!
+1
oh, yeah, the cars. Well it's simple:
1) Car to drive on track = Buy GT3 RS
2) Car to drive at weekends = Buy Aston
3) Car to drive every day = Buy 650s
+Max Torque Nice point !
Buy them all its that simple
+Max Torque But what if you dont have 850k to spend and can only buy one!? ;)
Im with Harris on this, i would buy the Mclaren.
Or just be Shmee150 and own a FF and 675LTA
+Max Torque car to do all three = 650s
Investment-wise the Aston is a no brainer, but if I'm keeping the car forever, it's the 650S for me :)
+boy638 I challenge you to a bet. In 10 years, the Porsche is worth more.
"Where's the 458 Speciale/488 GTB?" comments incoming
Incentive for Ferrari to give a long term loaner. Glad it was McLaren though - I find them more interesting and current.
+john marsh The GT3 RS and GT12 are factory cars, though. I'm not suggesting they take such trickery as far as Ferrari but they'll be fully fresh examples. Maybe customer cars of those would be even further behind on a track?
+boy638 Where's his Citroen 2cv actually, why wasn't it in the comparison?
+boy638 loool , this just the appetizer. Digesting a video of that magnitude wouldn't be easy .
Chris Harris, you simply rock. If all the other car shows went away I would not waste a tear. Thanks!
This video is an excellent birthday present, thank you Mr.Harris!
Chris, I think you're probably one of the best things to happen to the internet ever. Thank you for making some down time extremely enjoyable, I so look forward to your videos. Please keep it up.
Lmao. The wine joke.

Something interesting to note, the Honda Civic Type R is only a second slower around this track the Aston Martin GT12.
+rvind92g On foot, I'm only a second slower around this track the Aston Martin GT12.
A second is a huge amount when racing, even 1 second difference in a quarter mile drag race is huge.
+rvind92g those numbers you are citing were already debunked ages ago. Those times were NOT done with a street legal Type R.
If you want any more proof go to the dealer yourself and compare the models on the new lot and those on the used lot, you'll see how ridiculous the price just drops in 1-2 years.
we both know Ivan.
Had to comment again, I really appreciate how you compare these cars to the used market. I go through the same mental process when thinking about cars.
but the sound! 4.0 flat six scores 911/ 10 points
+vivalaphill It's a 3.8
Froseization GT3 has a 3.8, the GT3 RS has a 4 Liter
+Froseization the RS has a 4.0 liter. At least know what you're talking about before you complain.
I mean, your math is broken, and I highly approve of the game u played with it. I am not a Porsche fan boy but the classic shape is just so powerful. So surprised by the performance of the aged Aston
+vivalaphill Never mention sound of any other engine when there is a NA V12 in the game mate, never..
Genuinely one of the greats. The creative presentation, the passion, the concepts. And then the bizarre attempts at grounding such a scene in reality. Brilliance. Thank you Mr Harris. Brightening my day, always a safe haven on a stormy day.
Gosh this is one heck of a line up!

+Mumbo Jumbo hello again
+Mumbo Jumbo Hello
Although pretty much all of Chris' video's are great, I've been missing these longer old school Chris Harris supercar video's. Best in the business by far!
Love the focused/slightly scared expression on your face @ 8:52
You are no idea how happy I am to see more of your videos pop up in my sub box, Chris :D
Every time when the slow motion shots come up with the violins in the background I just feel like everything in the world is in perfect harmony
GT3 RS dealer markup prices in the US are insane. Just go on cars.com and look at the fuckery. Some are close to $400,000
+BigA 65 All the 675LT's soon sold out. Even Jenson Button couldn't have one (so must make do with his P1, poor fella). But given the choice I'd go for the 675LT too.
+BigA 65 Can you really? It's production is limited to 500 units, so, like with the Porsche, the real price could be higher.
+BigA 65 well not any more you cant there all sold out :(
+BigA 65
You can't, thats the problem.
McLaren recently announced they will make the 675LT convertible. So that's perfection.
+boy638 They said they are considering it, nothing's "announced" just yet.....No need to spread misinformation....
Bullshit
+Soren H People already have reserved build slots.
No, they haven't.
Highly unlikely. The LT is ment to be track focused. Yeah it would make a great road car but that wasn't the goal for it.
Even with slightly scrubbed tyres, the fact that the lighter and vastly more powerful McLaren is only 0.1 seconds faster around a track than the Porsche is insane! Bravo Porsche.
On a track tires make a much bigger difference than a hundred or so horsepowe
Chris you are the motoring journalist of our time. I can't anywhere near afford one of these beauties but the vicarious pleasure i get watching you drive and your enthusiasm makes my day that little bit better. Now go do another skid :)
Damn, you just sold me on the McLaren. Great video
lol
The 650s is easily the choice of those 3 for quickness. Too bad it looks boring and non-descript (imo).
Jamie Stirzaker No it's not,on other tracks the GT3RS is faster than even the 675LT
Well my house isnt on a track
The Opinionator
Looks wise I mean. much rather have the GT3RS over a 650s. (imho)
will probably be late to work in the morning in order to stay up and watch this....worth it. Chris Harris is the king of reviews. Not to be outdone by Neil who's an ace behind the camera. I personally feel the GT3 RS is more special to look at than the other two, but you know what they say about opinions.
Chris, you've missed one very important point, when discussing the value . How much is Macca going to worth compare to Rs in 3-5 years time.
+marriots exactly
25:00 he knows
+marriots He said forget about investment value pretty clearly so he didn't miss that point at all. I think you may have missed it. Anyway as said above. If your seriously considering a 650S and are worried about depreciation, the 675LT would solve all your problems. If you can get one, much like the GT3RS & the Aston.... but I have a feeling your not actually looking to buy one of these.
+marriots Considering to buy such a car as an investment... rather than for driving enjoyment? BORING!
+john marsh the 650 isn't the base model
These are the kind of videos that exemplify that Chris is the best car reviewer in the world right now. Just upped my Patreon amount to keep these kind of videos coming.
Porsche laptime 43.18, Mclaren with 150 hp more 43.05. I take the Porsche
+Hen zo except the times aren't comparable as the 650s was on shit tires..
porsche with race tyres vs McLaren with shit tyres and the McLaren still wins while being more comfortable in every way, better looking and less of a faf.
+Hen zo in other words, Mclaren provides 150hp more for the same price and is faster on a track with less sticky tires.
+Light Yagami Do you guys know meybe how tires BMW M4 GTS using ?, it has 500 hp like that Porsche and it has 3.0 i6 engine. It schould beat that Porsche
+Hen zo Agreed 100% ,there is no other car that can run with another car that has 150hp more
Excellent video Chris, well done to Neil Carey with his great camera-work too, cheer's.
You got to consider that the McLaren will only depreciate like they always do while the Porsche and probably the Aston will increase in value
+Daniel Maia this is about how much fun and how capable the cars are, nothing to do with value.
He considered it.
You can find a 650 for 150k£ in good mileage while people will still be fighting for the RS :) that's the difference :)
+Jason Lycett Actually the whole video was based on value..that's why he's comparing prices.
Love those heli/drone shots massively, such beautiful hills. Props for the camera work/production!
+Paul Nichols completely agree with you!
+Paul Nichols Honestly, to me this video sounding like a McLaren AD. And I won't doubt that it actually is. That's how most journalists make money lol
For sure- completely agree
I wish I could live this guy's life for a few track days! He's so talented. Excellent presentation as always Chris! Thank you for sharing..
I love all three but the McLaren 650S is the one id take home. I wonder what excuses the Porsche fanboys will come up with this week...
Well the Porsche 918 destroyed the P1 around Nurgburg. but I love both Porsche and McLaren.
Can you do a video of affordable trackday cars over the years?
Nurburgring touristfahrt kind of cars

Chris, your comparisons are always the best and the most to-the-point ones. Thank you so much and please make more videos
If a Locomotive had a steering wheel, Chris Harris could drift that around a rail track.
+NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神
Poor comparison, different price points and hp and intended purpose.
Chris Harris for President
Dear Chris Harris, your videos are the best car content on EARTH! WOW! I can't wait for BIG 3!
McLaren is always my love! 650S Spider is such a spectacular roadster! I start to wonder will McLaren make 675LT into a roadster?
McLaren don't do roadsters. Would undermine the brand.
+Wishwader Oops, my bad I used the wrong word. I meant another hard-top convertible masterpiece like 650S Spider.
+JimRaynor2001 Yes it was just announced and confirmed this past week. I was offered a spider build this past week.
+iLLM3 Thanks for the info. Good to know. And you've been offered the spider model last week? Congrats! And this is unexpected fast.
Chris, you and Neil are the perfect dynamic duo - your passion for cars and quality content is remarkable. Thanks for sharing this.
I understand that if buying new, the Mclaren will probably be a better buy if you pay the same. But when the mclaren is a year old, it has dropped 50k in price, but the porsche hasnt dropped a dime in price. I'd buy a porsche, I like the wing :D
Fair point. Would have to plump for a limited edition McLaren if concerned about depreciation.
The McLaren should be a 675LT.
He did mention why he did not include the 675LT. It would completely blow off the other two.
+rvind92g trololololololol
+john marsh
You're dreaming. The P1 can't even beat the 918 lol
Hahahahahahahahah this comment was funny, I read it before watching the video!
+mugdays some tracks the P1 is faster, some tracks the 918 is faster. Both are exceptional cars. The 918 fairs better on slower tracks (better traction off tight corners) where as the P1 fairs better on faster tracks.
Chris, the world needs your videos, preferably a new video every week!!!! Please keep them coming. Thanks mate :)
As usual like before watching it
By far, one of the best car test I've ever watched! Amazing job. Thanks!
It's a stupid test actually,he's comparing a resale value car price to a factory car price, car prices fluctuate,if the 650's resale price goes up to 1 million,do you think it's a good idea to compare it to a 918 on a track? NO.
The 650s has 150 hp more than the RS and there track time is basically the same. I think that tells a lot....
Yeah it does, the 650s is faster and better, funny that.
Tyres. He did mention this.
+aggakagandauff it's a light track car, yet the McLaren is lighter, and has 150hp more...
Chris, thanks for this amazing content. Your stories and discriptions make me feel like i've driven all of these cars. No doubt that you are the best presentator around here (by miles)!
although mclarens just tank in value. id be pulling my hair out
They keep shooting themselves in the foot releasing a new model constantly. I'm sure mclaren owners love that
Chris, your videos are like star wars movies in the way that people wait for them to come out, only difference, your videos never disappoint.
+ewt415 true that
+ewt415
bravo you got it exactly to the point.
Absolutely epic...I totally connected with you on that analysis Chris. Totally relevant perspectives. Great job.
2002RM "So I think the point Mr Harris is making is that, in presenting the Spec'd up propositions in the video, Aston and Porsche have ventured into Mclaren territory with these cars."
I'm going to stop you there, because that's just not true.
Blacklisted
Car world is so diff now a days from in the last when I was heavily into track/racing and gatherings
It's a shameRS is an amazing machine
The comparison means that the RS has gotten into the realm of Mclaren price wise, so therefore for a logical buyer, would you buy lesser for more?i didnt
Chris deserves a lot more subscriber for making videos of this undoubted quality. Bravo, Sir.
+Bart Vandenhaute The McLaren was on heavily used road tires, not surprising what so ever.
Bart Vandenhaute I do agree. The RS is a stunningly good machine.
+Bart Vandenhaute "give it the technology of the Mclaren and it would annihilate the 650s. " what a ridiculous thing to say lmfao
As usual, beautifully shot, narrated and produced. Informative with the appropriate amount of cheekiness to be entertaining. Keep up the good work.
+Montenegro Montenegrin The butt-hurt is strong with this one.
***** im not fanboy, his job is not to be pro something.
+Montenegro Montenegrin facepalm
With reviews and tests like these, and the passion he has for these machines we love, Chris Harris has very well cemented himself as the best car reviewer currently out there IMO
Is this video sponsored by McLaren? Just asking.
+maxmavrick7 Wondered the same.
+Wishwader Man, I totally agree with you! Just thought I would stop by and throw that out there haha. In RL I woulda shook your hand!
+Basel Kader Love how Lambo still have a shit on with him lol. They're showing how childish & weak boned they are!
That click when he shifts in the mclaren... is just so awesome
The back of the McLaren is the ugliest I've ever seen.
God I love that Aston.
that AM V12 is just one of the best sounding engines ever, I could listen to that sound for hours. What an engine...
Loving the video. Just awesome!!!!!! I mean, you make us wait, but it is worth it if you come back with this kind of things.
Terrifically thoughtful motoring journalism. Bravo.
This video was just too good. Visuals were on spot and commentary while driving is second to none. Months later it holds up well
Great review as ever. Loving the BPW T-shirt Chris. Rode there yesterday and secretly hoped it was your 14 plate RS6 I parked behind. Terry's Belly blew my mind.
Another great video by Chris. OMG. Going from not liking his videos very much am now going to be spending most the day watching as many as I can.
I could watch Chris get loose on a technical track like this all day. A real joy to watch.
Just a perfect couch Saturday afternoon watching CHoC! Thanks and congrats for this trully beautiful content!
WOW! First one to comment on a fantastic piece of entertainment like this! I guess everybody was too stunned to comment.
Had a great time Chris, I have a 997.1 turbo of 600BHP and I am still drooling on these 3 pieces of art you presented!
Thank you !
24:30 is THE best argument I've ever heard in defense of any McLaren road-going car made in the past 5 years. Thank you so much Chris.
Chris, keep these long-form comparisons coming. Great to see quality insight and real energy into videomotojournalism, you put others to shame.
As always a stunning video. Thanks to Chris and Neil. Oh........and McLaren 😁
Cheers!
Dude, you just are a nice guy, providing us with some great car related stuff. Thank you very much indeed! And thank you internet. Just awedome :)
I love Chris's video's! I'd just like to see more cars that come from places outside of Britain, Germany, and Italy.
That Choppard chronograph... dang. Exclusive and elegant, but encased in petrol driven brutality. Love it.
Proper review. Informative, exciting, insightful. Well done, Chris! Yet again!
These videos are always worth the wait.
FAIL
Fair point, but he did acknowledge the price, while many people would only have stated that they're competitors.
