It’s actually a GTS Turbo, the Italian domestic version of the 328 GTS. The earlier 308 equivalent was known as the 208 and was available in naturally aspirated and turbo versions. These are powered by a 2 litre V8 and were made to avoid the high taxes on cars over 2 litres. The later 328 based car was unofficially known as GTS Turbo Intercooler, or GTB Turbo Intercooler to differentiate it from the earlier 308 based version which did not have an Intercooler. You can identify a Turbo Intercooler from the NACA duct in front of the rear wheels, the Pininfarina badge behind the rear wheels (relocated from its usual position on a 328 due to the NACA duct on the Turbo), the rear bumper on the Turbo has cooling slots, and the engine cover is raised with vents on the rear, this is where the intercooler is located.
