The Tuthill Porsche Safari Film

- As we come up to the 12-month countdown before the 2023 event, we thought it timed perfectly with releasing our full-length film from this year.
We documented our drivers more closely to get an understanding of the experience from their perspective; with some drama thrown in for good measure.
After the event being postponed from November 2021 to February 2022 it was great to finally welcome competitors who had never tackled Kenya before, and some completely new to rallying, which made the dynamic between customer and crew quite special.
The final results left Patrik Sandell in 2nd place with five other cars finishing in the top 10 and a further four in the top 20. An absolutely fantastic result to see so many cars and drivers complete the rally relatively unscathed.
Despite Tuthill Porsche not getting the 1-2-3 podium finish we'd hoped for, the driving experience is just second-to-none and can't be found at any other event in the world!
With thanks to Petroleum&Co for filming and Oak Lane for editing this film for us, as well as thanks to the event organisers and marshals for making the event happen.

Rip the absolute legend. He will be missed.
Was this his last Rallye? Or one of the last?
@@Tango4N I think this rally was at least 9 months ago
@@Tango4N It was one of his last competitions, yes.
I clicked on expecting to watch and flick through. One hour and ten mins later I’m still glued to the video. What I thought would be a logistical nightmare was made to look like a clock just ticking away. Well done to all involved 🎓🏁🏁
Thank you so much! We’re really happy that you enjoyed it 🤗🤗
Same….
This auto played from a previous video I was watching… I thoroughly watched this even after it shown by mistake… great video and event!!!…. I’m subscribed now
Hearing Ken's voice for the first time had me shook. This really blows. RIP to a legend
It really does... :(
If you scared go to church
What an event, what an experience, what a movie.
Hope that you are considering entering this into a movie festival or two because the story and production values are incredible and deserve recognition.
Great documentary, hard to believe this is probably one of the last things Ken was filmed in. RIP Ken, thanks for all the stoke on cars that you spread.
I was wondering about that. Probably his last rally as well?
You guys are always welcome to Kenya. Watching the Porsche in the wild is something else. The East Africa Classic Rally is the most adventurous rally you'll ever find anywhere on earth. The local traffic, wild animals, the cows. Everything is just wild.
This is an absolute tribute to the legends who sacrifice a lot to do what they love and the memories they create for all of us.
We also remember the memories of the legendary Ken Block (RIP) and his team @Hoonigan
This is a movie I never thought I needed. I remember following the action live and also on social media....its amazing to see the stories behind every photo or short clip uploaded. As a big Ken block fan, it's sad to know he won't compete again on our rally but am at peace knowing he got a taste of Africa. I hope to see the porches again this year! Hopefully this time I will get out of the office to see it for myself! Incredible work guys! 👏
Just came upon this footage by accident, brought back memories of being allowed to stay up late to watch the E A rally come through Dar, I was only about ten then, I am now 76! Must be one of the oldest rallies in the world.
What a wonderful piece of film. To the team at Tuthill through to the production team and competitors - take a bow.
Wow. What an experience! An expensive hobby, but that looks like a fantastic journey all the way through. The logistics for this boggle the mind!
Not to take away to the other drivers - but it got me emotional whenever I saw Ken.. and his impact on Tuthill Junior, so typical that he found a way into his heart immediately. His nice and calm demeanor will be missed.
Great job on the team filming and capturing the event. Hats off to the swedish guys, looked like real professional driving.
"When you shut the door on a rallycar, it's just the most peaceful place to be" 👌
Best hour I ever spent watching RUclips or TV for that matter. Excellent documentation and production of petrolheads doing what we love. If I had the money I would sign up for the next years rally in a heartbeat. Thanks for filming and sharing this!
I could watch this over and over. An epic film, desperately jealous of everyone involved. Think I need to work harder to afford a Tuthill Porsche
We really hope you enjoy it over and over! We were very excited to get this film out for Christmas :)
If you need a photographer contra me in
Lovely work and masterfully picture here in this film
Hugs from Santo Domingo guys
As a missionary kid born and raised in Tanzania by parents from Finland..I followed the East African Safari rally when it passed by our doorstep and was very proud when Hannu Mikkola was the first overseas driver to win the event. At the age of 6 years I was asked what I wanted to become as grown up...and the statement was : A rally driver in Africa..of course..wearing t- shirt with the EAS logo and a Datsun 240 Z on. When I got older I followed the rally every stage listening to shortwave radio. After finalizing mechanic trade school and national service in Finland I returned to TZ for my first job : Truckdriver in Africa..😊. The challenges was quite equal..without the speed of course... Now many years later watching RUclips and still following the events going on today I envy those having the chance and opportunities ( money )to rally in Africa. Having been on African roads since day 1 in my life...and still travel them occasionally..there is no place on earth where I feel more at home than on the African roads.❤
what a unique and cool story youv got there mate ! I wonder could you hit up the Tuthills next year for a role in the team somehow? if this is in the realms of possibility..
@@CallumWhatmore That would be coolest dream coming to reality 🥳🥳
I would love to develop your suggestion in to something practical. I speak Swahili, I can use a wrench and I can handle a steering wheel.

This hits different since losing Ken.. The biggest inspiration to me in the car community and will forever be one of the greats! R.I.P. Ken. I always imagine you and Colin, and since the passing of Craig, all 3 of you tearing up the dirt in the sky!!
3 legends that were taken from us too soon, may you all Race.In.Paradise! 🙏
Incredible event superbly documented - thank you!
And RIP Ken Block, a legend lost too early 😢
This is incredible - I was expecting a 5 min overview, but this is amazing - please do more
Hearing Ken's voice made me tear up, hearing his laugh made me smile. Rest easy Kenny from the Block.
RIP Mr Block, just last week was watching this. A great guy with such a great passion for the sport that I love.
Just after watching this I read that Ken Block had died.. damn life can be so unexpectedly cruel at times. But this video at least shows how beautiful and exciting his life has been.
Fantastic film and documentary of something many of us dream about. RIP to the GOAT Ken Block, taken too soon.
Brilliant film and amazing event and team. One of the best things I've watched all year.
The documentary is just as slick as your organisation and team. Epic work from all involved.
Spectacular !
RIP Ken.
Two thumbs up for the SD1 !!
Stunning cars, stunning scenery, stunning cinematography. Thank you Tuthill.
Okay, this is nothing short of epic. RIP to the legend
My uncle Horst Dettke worked at the "original" East African Safari Rallye in the 70tees among others as a Service Technician for Kugelfischer Injection pumps (today Bosch) - and as a teenager i loved to listen to his stories when he came back ... very much loved to watch this video. Great job - well done.
Fantastic documentary. Blown away by the quality of it was not expecting it to be such a high level. Francis Tuthill reminds me of an officer from a 1950s war movie! Haha. Congrats to all who took part.
Fran is a legend!
Such a beautiful doc, I still miss Ken but this makes me want to work in any way possible in rally now
An incredible effort to make that film and a great insight into a special event for all involved
Those older Porsche's sound so so good. I've always been a sucker for em
Thanks Tuthill Porsche. Really enjoyed watching this and loving the family bond that is there 🥰.
My dad and Uncles were all born in Kenya and have many stories and much love for the East African Safari Rally before emigrating to the UK. In fact, that’s one of the reasons there’s so much petrol in my blood 😂👍🏼
Much respect and well done to you all 😎👌🏼
That was brilliant. Netflix should do a series.
We're thinking about pitching for 2025...
Fantastic video, congratulations to the Tuthill family. Great to see 3 generations loving every part of rallying, the mechanics and crew are amazing. Wonderful.
That is an amazing film of an utterly amazing event, thanks team Porsche, great watch and amazing driving.Emotional roller coaster with some mad driving and absolutely stunning nature scenery, huge round of applause to the mechanical team as well!!❤
Well done documentary, story telling perfect, music choice /score perfect. As a Kenyan working towards one day racing on our own roads.
How have I only just discovered this, a brilliant watch 👏🏻
Such an awesome gift for Christmas! Thank you Tuthill Porsche for an amazing video! 😊 🏎️ 🎉
Looks like a fantastic event and excellent production.
Never knew anything about rallying but I recently got interested in safari porsches just from cool instagram pics... Did not expect to watch this whole thing! Looks so so fun.
haven’t even finished yet but this is shot so beautifully
It's amazing how versatile the 911 is!

You’re videos are getting me everytime… I love what you’re doing…
Well done! A brilliant film. A lot has gone into preparing the cars and keeping them on the road. Its good to see the involvement of three generations of Tuthills. Its great seeing Philip on the rally; we are used to bumping into him on STG. Looking forward to next one already.
Awesome!! I had the pleasure of competing in the same events as Francis when he ran the Beetle! 😎 Memories to savour ❤
Amazing film, crew, leadership, and experience. Thanks for sharing all of it with us.
speechless, that movie was awesome. your service is out of this world.
This was incredibly inspirational. I know virtually nothing about rally, but find myself ready to charge off and figure out how in the world I could make this a reality for myself.
This is what we LOVE to hear!
Simply awesome. You guys are heroes 👏👍 Great team, great 911s.
The preparations, the grit, the equipments, the, beautiful rally cars, the people...the logistics...and then the sceneries...of beautiful kenya..

This was an epic watch. Thanks!
I just love it when these gems of a video pop up in my feed 😊
I found and watched this the day b4 Ken passed. RIP Crazy how you never know when your time is up. Thanks for a great little peak into how this is a team sport where the support guys do most of the work for the drivers to get all the glory. (former cycling team principle)
Incredible. Talk about life goals! Must book the ice driving
What an amazing event! Would love to be part of this. Thanks for sharing 👍
Awesome film, cheers from Sydney AU
Such a phenomenal race/event that's been put together here. Will definitely be following it when it happens in future and wish everyone good luck! So cool that Ken was able to take this on before his unfortunate accident happened. Rip legend
Lovely documentary. I saw it last night and this morning I read Ken was dead. So sad.
Great video, so iconic seeing those cars in that landscape. RIP Ken
Seriously if you have the finances for it why on earth would anyone buy another boring Supercar when they could go and do this instead? Thank you for making this film and letting us all enjoy the journey with you.
Blimmin brilliant, thank you so much for making this.
These cars are going to appreciate in value after this so much.
That looks like so much fun, thanks for making this great video and sharing the trip.
