I used to decontaminate my car with a clay bar, but I used to drop it to the floor many times. So I wasn't available to use it anymore. I decided to buy this product and it's great. The car feels smooth. That was a great purchase actually.
Thanks for watching, It sounds like you may need a medium to heavy clay bar. The clay bar is a little harder to handle, but it will remove the more industrial pollution.
I use dish soap and warm water.. works like a charm.. and I have 2017 black truck that had over spray that the dealer said it wasn't their problem.. so I used this and smooth as glass..
Hi, it's true that old school detailers used to use soap and water with their clay bars, but they found the mixture dissolving their clay bars and leaving bits of it all over the cars they detailed. Clay Luber is gentle enough for use on the finest natural detail clay bars, and helps preserve the integrity of the elastic polymer bar. So, while you could potentially use soap and water (at your own risk to your paint), you will probably be spending more money replacing your clay bar more frequently and more time correcting the imperfections that a not-as-slippery solution like soap and water might cause. Thanks for watching!
I'm actually to anal to use the block twice.. I feel after the first use it is garbage.. and as for the truck, I won't own it long enough to care about the paint, being I trade it in every 5yrs... good stuff though.. faster than using the clay bar, specially on a full size truck.. and I wouldn't worry about 25$ for a block once a year.. I spend more in washing it 1 to 2 times a week being I'm in a rural area, dirt roads and bugs is a huge factor..
as the clay bar is small and felxible, how does the block compare when claying on smaller areas such as wing mirrors or areas between the rear license plate?
Gotta watch out for this one, the stuff it pulls out stays on the surface of the vehicle, best application for this new or not so really new item( I've used it a while ago) is to rinse the spot. Using a clay lube and microfiber towel will cause scratches. I've worked at body shops where these were used because of its larger working surface vs clay. All the clay downsides really don't equal out to this new product. I did however enjoy its larger working surface, it does lift a bit more stuff off the surface than clay, but it also leaves it on the surface. This isn't idiot proof. Its almost a must to polish after this. The Edges will mar paint just like clay when dirty or when someone is working a spot too hard.I'd like to see this reworked.
@Mike Price. Thats why i do have a collection of towels. When you really care about your car, you will eventually learn you should be packed of dozens of towels. And applicators as well 👍🏻
I know thats what I heard too; thats the first time I have heard anyone say that is how it works, never heard Nanoskin say that, but I wonder if theres works the same. If this is indeed the case I wonder how safe this is too the paint.
The big problem of clay block is that the sticky surface is black. Yes we can feel the tiny rocks that stuck on the surface block but as a detailers we have a hard time to determine how bad the colour stain/dirt is on there. For months I've searched many clay blocks /clay mitts from many manufacturer around the world such as Japan, China, Korea and even in the US... all is black colour surface.
Radhwan I agree with what you're saying but we shouldn't necessarily need to see the dirt colour on the block. As long as the surface of paint feels smooth and decontaminated then to me that suggests that the product has done its job.
According to this dude in the vid even if the backing was white, you still wouldn't see any dirt as it seems the unit simply "lifts" the dirt/particles/contaminates and it is suspended in the detail spray and you have to wipe it off.
***** But they're not shitting on the old product, this is just a newer/possibly better product that they are offering. Also, I don't recall them toting the old product/clay bars as if they were amazing.
Yes, now that the pores of the paint have been cleansed it leaves the surface exposed to contamination that will clog the pores again. Sealant and wax protect the paint while adding shine.
excellent product it is easier to use, as effective as clay bar, they have a nice combo deal with clay luber and the V2 clay block. If you want a truly clean suface on your paint , glass , rims get this !! your wax or selant will adhere and be more effective.
Reading a lot of reviews about how this seems to cause marring more easily compared to the standard clay bar. Presumably since the contamination is lifted to the surface, rather than embedded into the clay. Would you therefore generally recommend this product for only newer vehicles with light contamination, where only light pressure is required?
Lewis Carpenter i've used it on my car... though my car doesn't have much contamination... so it didn't mar at all.... I cover my car during the day at work after a quick hit with detail spray... I was really impressed though how easy and quickly and accurately i was able to get contamination off the paint... for the tougher stuff i'd stick to the clay bar... but for quick claying this is the best... we are also talking german bmw paint which is usually on the hard side, so probably less prone to minor scratching.... but seriously this product cut hours off the time it took me to clay my car...
As long as you use enough lubricant to flush away the contaminates during the process, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Anyway after using these types of products you really should follow up with polishing the surface to remove any marring you introduced to the surface. All types of these products will mar the surface at some level.
Great info & will definitely look into this new clay block because I have a 95 bmw 540 that sat outside for some yrs & want to know how I can bring back the sheen if not lost, I have washed it several times always keeping the surface wet. What's the best steps for me to follow?. Thanks for the info!.
Hi Nate, that's a really great question. Clay Blocks don't necessarily work better than clay bars, they serve a different purpose in a sense. The results you will get with a clay bar and clay block are extremely comparable, however, the difference is the characteristics of each. The clay bar must be thrown away when dropped on the ground, whereas the Clay Block can simply we washed and reused. You will also get more uses out of the Clay Block when used properly. You can achieve pretty much the same results with both, it's just a matter of personal preference and what you are looking for in a decontamination product. I personally am super clumsy, so it is probably better for me use the Clay Block!!! Thanks for watching, Nate, and stay tuned for a new video dropping later today!
Chemical Guys I appreciate the response, I always have big hands and can be a little clumsy. I will get this clay block and give it a shot. My truck is a 2014 and it's never been clayed barred, polished or waxed. Suggestions on what route to go would be great.
Hi Harvz, that's a good question. You can use the block until it's no longer effective and no longer removes the contamination in your paint. The longevity of any clay decontamination product depends on a variety of factors, such as levels of contamination on the vehicles, type of contamination, size of vehicle, how often they are dropped on the ground, and clay block maintenance and processing between use and reuse cycles. Our testing and customers' experience show over a dozen full vehicle decontamination services on average. Your results and mileage may vary, but pay attention to the cleanliness of the soft rubber claying surface and check the surface after cleaning for desired effects. One thing is for sure: you will get more uses out of the Clay Block than the traditional Clay Bar! Thanks for watching Harvz and stay tuned for a new video dropping tomorrow!
I believe the 5th. That thing about folding contaminants isnt “hygenic” Personally, i would discard after 1 car done. That way, i know next car, isnt on risk.
We're not sure what you mean, some clarification would help. If you have matte paint, you don't want to polish because matte paint is very sensitive. A clay bar is not sanding, you're using a synthetic material to pick up contaminants in the paint. When you use a heavy clay, that's when you're introducing micro scratches.
i mean if you use the clay block you make the paint in this case metallic look matt. Then i really have too polish when i don't need to. I thought the clay block was a cheaper option.
The clay block doesn't change the appearance of the paint, if its glossy, it will stay glossy, if it's matte, it will stay matte. Claying makes the paint feel smooth. Polishing makes something look shiny because you're removing the outer part of the paint which is dulling the finish. The car in this video has reflective paint, what's being used is clay luber, that protects the paint from being scuffed by the clay block. If you have a matte paint job, you don't use wax because wax makes your paint job glossy. You wash the matte paint with matte safe soap, or a wrap detailer.

One car if you've not decontaminated every or in a long while. And it will only last for one car if you break it into pieces. These guys are so unrealistic when it comes to the average car.
Hi, when using CG Clay Lube and the proper technique, the Clay Block will not damage your car. Windshield glass is extremely hard, so hard in fact that it cannot be easily polished with normal polishing techniques and even the most aggressive compound we offer. If you believe that you scratched the windshield whilst using the Clay Block, please call us at 866-822-3670 to discuss your technique and receive further guidance. Thanks for watching!
Hi Jason, you can't with a clay block. There are a couple of ways to do this, five ounces of Citrus wash and Gloss, clean slate, Wipe Out or polishing will all remove wax coatings. Clay Bars pull off surface contaminants, where as wax bonds to the paint on a molecular level. Stay tuned for more great videos Jason, we've got one launching today and the final one on Friday, C.G. Hi Mr Sammy, it all comes down to personal preference. The Clay Block is a great way to decontaminate your car, especially if you're clumsy like me and tend to drop your clay bar a lot. It's also convenient in that will offer many more uses than the traditional clay bar. Keep in mind that the clay bar is more versatile, though, in that there are four different variations of "hardness", whereas the Clay Block has only one. Thanks for watching, Mr Sammy, and thanks for being a part of the Chemical Guys family!
So now there saying you don't need to spend all your money on buying clay bars, you now have to spend your money on the quick detailing spray. nice way of still making repeat sales.
I own the clay block because I wanted something that I would be able to use multiple times. It worked on my car, that admittedly, doesn't get it's weekly wash but the block was able to get most of the contaminants to reveal a smooth-as-glass feel. Only reason I said most is because my car was heavily contaminated that I could've used the black clay bar to truly get it off. I definitely recommend it. Check it out! -CG Javier

How do you know when to replace it?
I bought a Clay Block, used it twice now and it gets the little rust spots from brake dust out. Requires alot of rubbing but it works.

what about there being 3 different grades of clay bars but only one block. if I need heavy clay will it work the same if I need yellow clay?
