    For anyone wondering, the noise after the brushless motor was installed is 100% binding and too tight a' mesh between pinion and spur. Try the paper method when meshing gears ❤❤ awesome video though! ❤❤

    Hello John. The high speed gear set isn't for powerful motors. High speed in Tamiya terms means top speed. I.e low powered motors geared for top speed (large pinion, small spur). For you situation, using a powerful motor like the one you have requires a small pinion count and a high spur tooth count in order not to prematurely wear out gears.

    • @JohnBattistini00
      @JohnBattistini00  3 года назад +6

      @@JohnBattistini00 The kit spur should do fine. I would look into a tamiya hardened low tooth count pinion. A 17t or 18t to start. I am building a tt02 rally car for competition and have opted for outright acceleration and torque over top speed.

      Hey there. I have 26 and 27 tooth pinions matched with the 68t spur. No issues ripping up and down the street. Spurs are clean as a whistle. Get a tornado fan from yeah racing for your motors. I also think a metal spur is not a good idea. You will find metal shavings under the cover.

      @@gatzuberserker 17t - 18t is way too low ... that's a ratio of over 9:1 with that motor anything above 7:1 is probably fine, . With 25T / 68T spur you get 7.07:1

    Make sure the gears have just a little slop in the mesh. You never want it tight or plastic spur will strip in a matter of a few runs. I have had the stock plastic spur in my tt02b for years and have over 20 packs of 2s lipo runs through it. Never stripped anything. 3900kv 23 pinion with stock plastic spur. Hi John, plastic spur gear should be fine, make sure you order steel pinion and your problem is solved. I think that weak aluminium pinion destroyed your spur. I'm running steel 25-31t pinions with 4300kv motor and 3s - no issue. Also check the mesh carefuly.

He's doing speeds of 97mph, but with the correct tire compound, & so on. So it sounds like you might need an aluminum pinion with a plastic glass infused spur gear

    Hey there. First time commenter here….but I have a couple TT02s with the high speed gear set. Note, when you use it (or different pinion) the holes you use for mounting the motor mount shift from what is in the manual. I made a similar mistake on my TT02 and the gear mesh was too tight. Luckily I caught it and made the adjustment. May not be the issue here, but something to look into. I have a brushless motor in my TT02s and they rip. The pinion mesh never sounded right from the minute you bench tested it. I have dozens of Tamiya cars with brushless systems, some way more powerful than that, and they are just fine on the standard plastic spur gear.
    I do find with aftermarket motors, some don't line up and give correct mesh just by using the numbered hole in the Tamiya engine mount. They are drilled slightly out of whack on the motor can. You need to manually check it, or use the yeah racing mount that has infinite adjustment, not just set holes.

    This is an old video but the minute you took off I immediately knew by the whine sound that the mesh was set incorrectly, do you manually set the mesh on these cars or do they have set gear mounts ? a car should never whine like that when set with the right amount of play, it sounds like the mesh was set way to tight even on the brushed motor it sounds tight., there's nothing wrong with the plastic spur I run plastic spurs with aluminum pinions in all my Drag cars going over 80 mph in 132 feet, for drag cars etc it's all in the mesh and installing it correctly, installing a metal spur won't fix the problem itll only create another issue down the line ie: smoke your motor, your transmission etc etc, id highly recommend staying with the plastic spur and aluminum pinions and figure out why the mesh is so tight . Plastice spurs will never burn out out regardless the power if set correctly 👍🏁💯

I am using the high speed gearing and went up 3 teeth (i think) on the pinion. My car isn't built for speed runs. It's setup for medium size rally tracks. It runs very cool and could easily handle a few more teeth on the pinion. I also run a lexan dust cover that restricts airflow, so I have to be careful about overgearing it as it will overheat. You should be able to hit 33mph easily and safely with your 13.5 setup. Hope this helps. I will try and get a video up on my channel soon, showing my rally setup and the analyzer data.

    • @MrGoat73
      @MrGoat73 8 месяцев назад

      I realise this thread is from years ago, but the Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC can run a 2S Lipo, but the low voltage cut off cannot be changed to suit a lipo so you have to monitor the voltage or fit a cheap Lipo low voltage alarm. I'm sure we all know already but Lipo's CANNOT handle being regularly discharged below 3.2V, so monitor carefully.

    Results may vary, but when I installed the high speed set in mine, it screamed! Not in a good way. It was loud, like yours. That is never good with gears. I changed pinions and tried different gear mesh settings. Didn't help. I finally grabbed a Robinson 48 pitch spur out of my spares and a losi pinion. Quiet as a mouse now. Maybe that is what happened to yours?

    • @ConditionZero76
      @ConditionZero76 2 года назад

      It's 100% your mesh, your not setting it correctly.. I run 80 plus mph in my Drag cars and on road cars with 48 P plastic spurs and aluminum pinions, when installed with the correct mesh and amount of play you can go 150mph plus it doesn't make a difference ,it has nothing to do with the plastic spur. installing metal spur gears only creates more potential disaster further down the line.. 👍🏁💯

    • @freewill51
      @freewill51 2 года назад

      @@ConditionZero76 Not true. I spent years racing dirt oval with 64 pitch gears and never had a problem. Just because you go 80 plus or 150 mph does not mean certain gears when put together, make noise. Why do you think gears on fullsize cars are cut different for forward and reverse? To cut down on gear whine. Ever heard an old honda civic back up at 10 mph?
