It's spectacular! One thing that would be great is that you add the speed in Km/h because there are some bums like me who don't bother to convert from m/h to Km/H 😂
I love how the rear squats under hard acceleration and the new motor and esc combo has accentuated that perfectly! Looks just like the real thing! Great videography as always 👍👍
Back in the day (late '90s) I used to belt tyres myself. Turn them inside out and run a strip of duct tape around the inside of the tyre. Worked remarkably well to stop tyres ballooning. Fabric surgical tape also worked well.
This a very worthwhile video. It shows how you can easily and cheaply make a car faster and more fun. I think this will encourage people to upgrade their rc's. Great job.
I don’t think you can ever take it too far. For me, that’s what this hobby is all about. As far as rally cars, I think the HPI WRX FLUX, is the winner.
I mean, if the car can handle it then sure. But each car has its limits, this one seems to have its limits at 4500kv on 2S, _maybe_ 3S with better tires and driveshafts and a better setup.
The cinematography in this video is outstanding. Really enjoyable to watch. Did you film all of this on your own Phil? Congratulations on a superb video.
@@TomleyRC Dang, you calling yourself a "crap driver" is adding insult to injury - I wish I could drive as well two handed as you one handed while getting those extremely cool shots at the same time...
I have 60 amp surpass esc in my tamiya tt02 rally car and it takes small stones in the fan constantly. Super annoying! I clued speaker grille cloth over the fan and it helps. Also took out fan screws, so i can clean it whitout tools. Positive is, my fan looks like it went through hell with missing blades and busted bearing, but still runs and does it job!
Bought one of these and it was painfully slow. We also managed to kill the shock tower on the first run. Tookk your advice and got hold of a 3900KV Brushless with ESC from Amazon and now it goes like stink. Modified the shock tower and replaced with aluminium
Those "ribbed" F540 motors are actually smaller 28 mm diameter inside. It would go even better if you used a full size 540. That said, it doesn't lack in power, in fact, it seems like a sweet spot for the size of the car.
I was watching the Paddlesworth video today of their rally stage, the stock slow motor is designed exactly for that, narrow twisty rally stages but, like you I'd put a faster motor in too.
I run a Mamba Max (the realy old one) mit 5400kv in my Tamiya TB-03, but only on 2S. I think on 3S the fun would not be much more, but the problems will increase.
Oh yeah, double the fun.. until you crash into something lol. I just got the Mini T back together and put a 4800kv motor in it. More docile and controllable, but I kinda miss the 6000kv insanity, but that's what breaks parts.
HAHA That was awesome! Way to bring that rig to life. Carisma really dropped the ball on this rig. Terrible electronics and basic design all the way around. By the time you upgrade and buy the 3S battery you could have got the HPI WR8 or NEW CEN Ford Puma.
Hi Tomley would be great to see a video of the upgraded carisma suburu against the Hpi Suburu with a speed & performance & Spec comparison & what is the better rallye car in the long run for the money which ever one has the better components ect cheers to a great review.
Just started watching your channel and watched most of your videos now. What rally based car would you get for street and loose gravel brushless etc. Thanks
You definitely made it rally worthy with those upgrades! Take it to the skatepark and serve that car it’s justice… but the dirt run did make it look realistic 👍🏻👌🏻💪🏻👊🏻🔥
@mark-1rc502 most ESC fires are bad connections. I've never had smoke come out. Only units that abruptly fail. So I would suspect a dead short in units that burn. And I feel like that is the battery connection at the solder join. Most of the time.
The funny thing about surpass escs is that they are *comically huge* in a chintzy cheap kind of way. And the fan blows like a hurricane and a tornado having a disagreement. But they're cheap and work well for me so far.
I know this is an older video now, but im desperate for a rally rc car 😂 would thos be a good recommendation? I have a few others, BigRock (on 4S), slash (on 4S) and FYX outlaw on 7000kv 2S 😂. I want a crazy rally car! ❤❤❤
Ya I would say much better bud so I guess the question is is it better then a wr8 if tyres a problem do you think you can run the wr8 subaru wheels on it
Love that shell! Do you think it would fit the HPI WR8 flux? I don’t mind drilling new holes in it but just want to make sure the wheels will line up with the arches lol
I've never been a Subaru fan but that body style WRX has always been one of my favorite looking cars. That Colin McRae blue and gold still looks great. This is a dumb question but, are RC motors mounting holes standardized? Everything I have is RTR and haven't swapped motors.
Mr. Tomley how you been?? Well what be good esc and motor i should put into a clone hpi .. its supposed to be a exceed mad beast 1/8.. but im build it up... is surpass esc actually good . Or should i go hobbywing.?? And what kv should a motor be in a 1/8 monster 👻 truck 🛻 .. i have another exceed mad beast truck i was going to build up.. but just wondering it be a waste and i should just buy a different rc monster truck..
Every cheap black motor I have had in the last three years ran quick but broke all the shafts on the pinion side right after it comes out of the can. Can't find replacement rotors anywhere. And esc's are a joke anymore under $50 usd. I'm just going to save a little and get good system.
If I were to use a Rocket ESC with a non Rocket motor, would it make a difference or would I be just as well served to use plane jane Surpass ESC? Thanks.

(In order to upgrade)

F550 motors are equivalent to a normal 3650 or 540 for internals. Like F540 motors are equivalent to a 380 sized motor. The F is for finned.

RC love from the Northwest in USA. Much viewing enjoyment. Thanks T.
Thanks dude :)
I think 2S suits that car perfectly. I think it’s pretty cool and realistic. Awesome action shots Tomley!
Those crashes were pretty realistic. It reminded me of Group B.
You had me at more power. The cam on body shots 😮 Beauty!!
You could lock the front diff. That would send most of the power to the front wheels, which would help keep it straight.
Nice editing! The car performs awesome! Looks like all it needs now is a set of higher speed tires…..even tho I like the look of the factory ones.
Cheers Mark
The video editing is the clear winner here! 👍🏼
Love the way you capture the video
Good angles
Looks epic on the dirt 👍
😆 That's quite the speed upgrade.
Now it rolls in SPECTACULAR MCRAE STYLE!, I love that!!
Wow that was awesome, it was way more faster than before
Power and speed solve many things! Powahh!!
Yes, it 100% does :)
Good looking shell and the power to match the looks
Love seeing what cool watch you will have on..

Thanks mate. Yeah... as with 99.9% of my stuff, it's a 1 man show. And a fair bit of 1 handed driving

Nice work Phil. That is quite the improvement.
Seeing it in the dirt was magic 👌
I used an 80a on a 4500kv motor, and that was wild. You are mental for going 120a. In all fairness, it is larger than the RC I used.
Bro that was insane how you doubled the speed on that. Kudos on an awesome job 🎉
Yeah, crazy!
where did you get the small flame torch from .
Amazon years ago I think. It's a Gas Soldering iron.. came with a blow torch adaptor
Hey you doing? Love that Pac-Man watch,Awesomeness! 🎉

Nice RC gotta love a scooby!
The pointer plus the fart sound was top notch
In theory a faster RC is better but speed is nothing without control. But it’s always FUN when you realize an RC is simply to fast for its own good 😮
Nice video Tomley🙂😎
Nice work . Yes . That's how it should have been out of the box .
Now I have to have one, nice video
🙋🏻♂️Hoi hoi Phil
Just only one thing to say
Boys will be boys I think 😄
Thank you for the laughters and all the info
tbh i think its perfect no reason to go full throttle but the power and acceleration of the bigger motor is perfect for those rally style driving
Chopito Rally ready . Its appropiate now , was a slouch before.
Yes! More Rally!!!!🎉
I enjoyed seeing how cheaply it's possible to turn these into serious rally cars. Carisma definitely mis-specced this model, for some reason.
1001 like that's cool. Also No,I feel like the upgrade went well for the Subaru.😊
Merci pour cette très bonne vidéo

Beautiful even on 2s
Much better with more power! Mo Powa Baby!
3:01 is that a 1990 toyota hilux? Dude you got good taste in cars
Cheers phil.!
All you needed to do is, change the tires and springs to low profiles/short dampers and she would coast at high speeds.
I did something similar to my Tamiya Alfa GTV.
It does wheelies now but is almost uncontrollable.
Can only go 75% throttle.
I’ve been waiting for a new video 😅🤓
