I'm away visiting family at the moment and have limited internet. You're all awesome (event the Salty Sea dogs)..... appreciate the support. 2 more NEW Releases coming over the next week... stay tuned!
I beat the heck out of an infraction mega converted to 3s both on and off road. Bought a vendetta for on road/speed, took electronics out of it and swapped them in the mega, converted the vendetta to 6s electronics out of the big boy infraction. Road car + on/off road basher combo. Christmas in July!
I totally agree. I have 3- 3s chassis, and I've tried a few different chassis and a-arm lengths and setups to get it close to fitting some 1/8 rally bodies, with no luck. Just used some buddies rally bodies, I'm sure there's some that will work, just don't have access to them.
I just had surgery so while I was down I built a Tamiya WRX kit nearly identical to this minus the Colin McRae decals. It was my intention to make it his car. Very nice. You mention smart ECUs and what you're referring to are the adaptive values. I used to work in the business as a tech and different driving styles would scramble the values of a car causing it to have odd manners. Husband drove hard while wife drove gently and neither liked the way it drove. I reset a lot of those ECUs and told them to figure it out!
I feel like we've been a bit spoiled with the speed of some of the RC showings to to date but that looks like a tonne of fun and it's probably a pretty scale speed.
It pretty much is. 18 x 8=144MPH and the real rally car would have been about 155 max... Hardly ever hitting that speed, too. I think this would be very fun to simulate rally.
Pretty much yeah, and as the owner of a gc8 I can say this is pretty realistic for one reason, it's slow 😂 no matter, id dish out that money just to have that beautiful body and chassis
It would be fun to see what this would do with a proper set of electronics and a bit more of a pokey kv motor. Even something relatively mundane like arrma 3s stock electronics should wake it up.
Back in 2000 I once owned a 97 V3 STi GC8 sedan and I too was informed by some Subaru techs, disconnecting battery overnight will reset computer then the next morning, especially if it’s a nice frosty morning, man my V3 and I loved those mornings, then go for a full on drive for a few hours. Computer obviously remembers parameters for that morning run, it was a good tip to do before a track day along with a service.
I'm just so very glad to finally see a company make this iconic Colin mcrae subaru. We now need the Tommi Mak Evo 6 gsr rally car too. I Like it and hopefully can find this subaru rc for a great deal price soon. Will probably also upgrade to a faster motor. Did the same on my rc mini cooper m3. So much faster. 👍 😉 GREAT REVIEW DUDE. 👍
I have an HPI WR8 Flux 2001 Impreza McRae Rally limited edition. My absolute favorite! Legit hard pan and significant weight to transfer around is superbly satisfying.
Woooooooo! Love that bodyshell!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Almost worth buying just for that! Heh, somewhere, I have something similar. Somewhere, wherever the heck it is that I left it! Similar bodyshell, made by Kyosho with a chassis called a Landmax! It had, or had, an nitro engine, which I think I removed to "un-sieze", but I knew I'd never use it, and knew that I'd convert it to electric. So then I left it all laying about and now it's wherever! Yes, no, I ain't an organised sort of blokey at home!
This model power and weight looks well suited for gymkhana style driving around obstacle courses. Not really heard of Carisma in Australia, but then again we are at the arse end of the world with some companies... :D
Model Flight in Adelaide distribute their gear. I believe they make some cool 1/24th scale Escorts and then other "iconic" rally beasties thru their repespective eras until now. They actually make a lot of "cheap" wee crawlers and the like, and credit where credit is due, they "generaly" sell them for prices representative of what you're buying... In other words, don't treat them like the wee Losi buggies, etc because they cant really handle a bashing or an inexperienced driver who seems to use solid objects, rocks, trees, my shins when then need to brake - or just slow down. Are you another Aussie, like myself, who has to patiently wait until it's practically bloody Xmas to get our grubby little mits on that Losi dirt bike? *grumble, grumble sigh. Arse end of the world alright, I was buying car parts from Ireland and Wales before the dreaded lurgy hit us, then what would normally take weeks was taking months. I mean, I get it, but for the love of Dog, I am not a patient man at the best of times, and I was waiting on a few parts to get the vehicle drivable and I was loosing my mind. But I love our sunburnt cuntry, what is girt by sea, because living here the positives completely outweigh the negatives so that in the long run I'm happy to live where the women glow, and men plunder... 👍🙃
Interesting facts: I had a WRX in the late 90s, it was great fun. This RC car is a model of McRae's 22B. McRae's original 22B is up for auction soon (26/8/2023 I think), number 000 out of 400. Estimated value £400,000-£500,000.
The car looks amazing, is simply beautiful. Speed is not important to me as driveability but yeah: It's a bit dissapointing in this case. Fun fact: The transmitter is the same used on my GT24B 1/24 buggy, just imagine how they look when you put them side by side😅 Good review and action takes as always, thanks a lot sir!
You know what could’ve been a great idea is to take the HPI WR8 Flux and take out its electronics and swap it into that Carisma rally car. That car be flying 45+ mph easily with 2s lipo. 3s lipo and I bet it’ll easily hit 50+ mph
Wtf happened to this world! Everything was going just nicely 😊 Through the 80’s & 90’s all I needed to stay happy was my mates, a football, the last few years of tamiya catalogs, and the dream of one day buying as many of those rc cars as possible. Now I wake up in 2023 and look at the world around me 😢 God I wish we could go back and have another crack at it.
I think a lot of people over rate servo speed and power specs. A lot of rc cars with high speed servos are too twitchy for the average user who has just started out. Especially as the car goes faster sometimes a slow servo is a help more so than a hindrance. 3kg is enough to turn the steering on your actual real daily driver.
The ecu didn’t learn your driving style, it just learns parameters and learns how it’s supposed to run. Like learning how much fuel or air the engine needs to run the most efficient
Would definitely like to see a part 2. I was all excited about this one and was about to purchases it. So I'll hold off until I see some upgrade reviews.
this almost looks like the hpi wr8, which definitely looks a lot better, comes electric and nitro powered. The Hpi is less cheaply made compared to Carisma, although the Carisma does have all the McRae decals on it, they both definitely look very cool.
Looking forward to part 2. I do Wonder if there’s a way to replace the motor mount so you can gear up a bit. The car looks awesome and appears to drive wonderfully. Lots of potential!
With that 2500 ide throw a 4s ESC in there and it would probably be amazing. Ide be really interested in seeing that if it's not too much to ask. Either way, love the content! Keep up the great work!
Another great video. I actually like that speed. I've seen a lot of your vids where the cars are so quick they end up flipping into their roof every time you hit a pebble. I'd sooner have stability and save the components from getting smashed up.
🙋🏻♂️ Hi Phil Wauw 😃 that's my dream car richt there and you are the one that's is some sort of reviewing him 😊 The real one will probably a dream for ever, but this one I hope 🙏one day call it my own 😇 I struggling to keep my kids happy and well 💁🏻♂️ live is hard sometimes but a man can dream right. I'm smiling long before your done with the video haha thank you again for this one Phil and no just thanks ✊🏽
Good looking car, definitely needs a bit more pep. Interested to see what motor you put in it and any other tweaking you might do to try and liven it up. Looking forward to part 2.
Yeah good review. I would love to see this a bit faster, diff and shock setup to cope with the extra power. Are spares, wheel and tyres replaceable/available? Thanks Mate
I absolutely love this and remember the full scale version the first time round…my only slight sadness is whenever I see ‘fully licensed’ it means it’s gonna cost a wad of cash. Time to get saving me thinks lol great vid as always mate 👍 Need more stories of the shenanigans you got up to back in the day hahahaha
I agree that licensing real cars and liveries increases the price, but Carisma already has a few 1/24th scale fully licensed Subaru models that are relatively cheap. I can't imagine they had to pay a whole lot more in licensing for this 1997 Colin McRae livery when they already have the 1999 Richard Burns livery in production on the GT24.
Super jealous of your work history with Subaru. I had an opportunity in America to work for a Subaru dealership and declined due too my age and stupidity. Thinking I could make more at another shop!
I could be interested in a rally car. I get they can be used as a street ride, and a drifter, but as a dedicated rally car? Yeah, I'd give it a go as I already have a couple of different ones for street/drifting.
interestingly if it is that slow and still fun on the dirt it would be harder to break. My tt02 is completely stock and i have as much fun with it as with my 6s Trucks
Factory electronics are weak on this car, but I think it has potential with a good brushless system, better servo and radio system.. it's definitely going to be way better. Around 40 would be perfect for this. I would go with a Spektrum 4000 kv. 3s
I'm never going to understand these 'brushless that run like brushed' setups. This one's a lot of price for that performance, which is maybe normal for the scale, IDK. Sweet car otherwise--I haven't bought a Carisma since the M14, so maybe it's time if there's a sale on these.
When the WRX was new here in Australia, the Subaru dealerships were sending people to local drag strips and video recording any that they saw on track, so if it came in for a gearbox warranty, denied.
Can't decide if I like it or not. I'm totally blown away for a few seconds and then nah nothing for me 😂 love it and hate it at the same time. Don't know it has a flat chassi, it must be extremely dirty after driving on gravel.
Does anyone remember the transformers Subaru wrx from back in the day? I believe his name was Smokescreen. I remember having one, and it was cool. Watching this just reminded me of it.

I voted for this video because I was interested in this car. Not much information about Carisma out there. After seeing your video, I'll have to pass. You've inspired me to build some crazy fast vehicles and I value every video you put out. Thanks
I dug out my old Tamiya Lancer its an XB - TL01 from my parents the other day, had It when I was about 12 I think. 34 now. Started watching a few RC channels, how does that app work you all use to measure speed, is there a receiver in the car you stick on or something?
I'm away visiting family at the moment and have limited internet. You're all awesome (event the Salty Sea dogs)..... appreciate the support. 2 more NEW Releases coming over the next week... stay tuned!
The weather here in St. John's is not too much better lol. The Subie looked pretty fun, looking forward to PArt 2
Hello is the body compatible with the hpi wr8 ?
Love the car you should come down and join us at are rally venue
You should review the KFPLAN KF10 when you are back
please tell me where you get the japanese pointy hand from !!!
I really wish arrma would make a rally version of their 3s chassis. Glad that carisma took the initiative!
Infraction technically that thing does rally and off road better than the traxxas fiesta
Build a senton as a rally car. That's what I'm doing
I beat the heck out of an infraction mega converted to 3s both on and off road. Bought a vendetta for on road/speed, took electronics out of it and swapped them in the mega, converted the vendetta to 6s electronics out of the big boy infraction. Jason wanted to do a rally car I'm guessing Horizon don't at least not at present anyway
I just had surgery so while I was down I built a Tamiya WRX kit nearly identical to this minus the Colin McRae decals. It was my intention to make it his car. Very nice.

Husband drove hard while wife drove gently and neither liked the way it drove. I reset a lot of those ECUs and told them to figure it out!
I think a 3500kv motor in a 550 size can would really wake that thing up
Looking forward to seeing how you go with it 👍
They don't need to be fast to be fun!
So close and yet so far! Yet another one that I would snap up as a roller
absolutely agree
I'd like to see you put in a new Hobbywing Quicrun G2 system. They're a budget system that I haven't seen a review on yet. Could be great...
RIP COLIN OUR TIMELESS LEGEND 🖤
It would be fun to see what this would do with a proper set of electronics and a bit more of a pokey kv motor. Even something relatively mundane like arrma 3s stock electronics should wake it up.
I had a '99 impreza wagon a few years ago..you could see it rusting away day by day 😂
A 3500-3900kv motor would definitely turn this car into a beast
Back in 2000 I once owned a 97 V3 STi GC8 sedan and I too was informed by some Subaru techs, disconnecting battery overnight will reset computer then the next morning, especially if it’s a nice frosty morning, man my V3 and I loved those mornings, then go for a full on drive for a few hours. Saludos Mr Tom me gustan los subaru este auto se ve muy bien , solo falta mas potencia y tu sabes como jacerlo , muchas gracias por compartir
Now that's a nice throwback. Subies were indeed the secret sauce. The only imports back then that could keep up with the V8s.
Absolutely. It doesn't really need more power, just needs gearing
I got the Tamiya TT02 Subaru 1:10 (same looking model) with the Lipo 2/3S combo included. And that makes 25mph with 2S
GREAT REVIEW DUDE. 👍
A 90's car with 90's power :) Could definitely use a proper 3s system with a bit more kv, assuming the drivetrain can take it.
Had a real gc8 some years ago definitely i will buy one just for the memories
I have an HPI WR8 Flux 2001 Impreza McRae Rally limited edition. My absolute favorite! Legit hard pan and significant weight to transfer around is superbly satisfying.
Does seem like an odd choice for motor and esc. Does look good and seems like the chassis is pretty dialed in.
Love it! And come on, it's plenty fast enough to have some fun with it. 😀
Carisma watching as overvolted esc could catch fire at any point 😂
It looks tremendous and despite the lack of speed it's pretty cool
For the price and as a McRae fan i love this one.
Power is perfect for someone like me to not destroy a great body 🤔
Woooooooo! Love that bodyshell!!!!!!!!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Almost worth buying just for that!

WRX guys wanting more boost after one drive?…. Pretty realistic 😂

Will be awesome to see this car do some real ripping.

Can you check if this body would fit on the HPI WR8 flux chassis
That body.... Wow
Can't wait to see this shred on 4s... Maybe 6s ????
I like the music in this video Tomley, yeah definitely wouldn't love to see a part 2 of this Famous WRC Subie
Interesting. Carisma have been releasing a load of 1/24 rally cars so wonder if they are planning the same for this chassis
The car looks so realistic. I don't mind the speed. It should be fun in the course while drifting. 4⭐
Can`t wait for part 2 but i`m thinking motor & esc out of a DR8 maybe give it more punch on 4s 😁
You have really nice shooting angles for driving, looks super.

Wonder if there’s a way to replace the motor mount so you can gear up a bit. The car looks awesome and appears to drive wonderfully. Lots of potential!
Get a drill and a Dremel and go nuts
I know prices are wacko these days but for $369 USD + the cost of battery you shouldn't have to replace things to bring it up to "good".
Its very slow.
Only for kids im afraid :/
@@muskokamike127 faster ≠ better, RC cars intended for rally game are not faster than this one.
@@logitechz3 Sure they are....a LOT faster than this.
Looks great! Body clips were a let down 😢
Interesting to see G10 being used. It's been a great material for knives and extremely tough.
I got G10 on my Bugout and it’s great.

Seems about right Scale to speed wise if that's what they where going for.
🙋🏻♂️ Hi Phil
Wauw 😃 that's my dream car richt there and you are the one that's is some sort of reviewing him 😊
The real one will probably a dream for ever, but this one I hope 🙏one day call it my own 😇
I struggling to keep my kids happy and well 💁🏻♂️ live is hard sometimes but a man can dream right.
I'm smiling long before your done with the video haha thank you again for this one Phil and no just thanks ✊🏽
Outstanding body! Run 3s till it blows up. Replace esc with something 4s when needed
u can upgrade the motor yes
Looking forward to part 2. Go BIG or go home.
Good looking car, definitely needs a bit more pep. Interested to see what motor you put in it and any other tweaking you might do to try and liven it up. Looking forward to part 2.

That 3S footage 👌
Super jealous of your work history with Subaru. I had an opportunity in America to work for a Subaru dealership and declined due too my age and stupidity. Thinking I could make more at another shop!

Thanks for the review. Size comparison to the wr8 wrx please.
Yep, new motor/ESC time, totally worth it tho!
interestingly if it is that slow and still fun on the dirt it would be harder to break. My tt02 is completely stock and i have as much fun with it as with my 6s Trucks
Ye definitely needs better brushless setup 😅 looking forward to part 2 👊🏼🤙🏼💨💨
Factory electronics are weak on this car, but I think it has potential with a good brushless system, better servo and radio system.. it's definitely going to be way better. Around 40 would be perfect for this. I would go with a Spektrum 4000 kv. 3s
Definitely I made my ftx outlaw crazy for £40
Gear it up and run 3s? Looks flippin scale and good suspension action
Nice and informative review. Very nice car but the lack od speed is a shame. Looking forward to your mods 👍🏻
I'd love to throw just that body on my WR8! Hopefully they'll make replacement bodies for purchase.
I remember. It was from the Transformers Alternators line that transformed into licensed, 1/24-scale accurate representations of real cars. His name was Smokescreen.
Looks really nice but I would change all the electronics out of the box and sell the stock ones, and try and make some lexan dirt guards and it would be class!
They made one of these same cars with a Porsche 959 shell on it 10 years ago nearly!!
The 555 logos are wrong on the right side of the body, the three small swooshes should point towards the front of the car so they still read as 555.
What system do you recommend/use for the speed checks please? Do you have a vid on how to install it too? Thank you!
An Audi 80 Quattro Sport Rally car would be amazing.
i put a brushed esc from amaon on 2s in my old XXX-t and it goes like 30mph. I think its got a 13turn 550 traxxas motor. they really crapped the bed on this for having an all metal gear box with no power.
Can't wait for part 2!
Hey U, a stupid question, can you fit that SUB body on a traxxas slash? i know i know.... but still...
I give them credit for trying but I think I would still choose the WR8
got to be done!! looks awesome as well
Maybe a dab of expo if you can with another receiver, throw some drift tires on it and have a 1:8 scale drifter?
A 3660 and a 60amp will make this fly on 3s shame its that slow for the price. looks awesome though.
You dont always have to be fast to have fun! :p
So I sense an overkill tire shredder build?? 😎
Do you remember the Kyosho nitro version. Colin and Nicky were given one each and Nicky had me build and run his in for him.
I voted for this video because I was interested in this car. Not much information about Carisma out there. After seeing your video, I'll have to pass. You've inspired me to build some crazy fast vehicles and I value every video you put out. Thanks
Nice! I have now OCD before buying a car if it's spare parts available and easy to find?!
Mmmm, that good old tarmat spec tyres.
I dug out my old Tamiya Lancer its an XB - TL01 from my parents the other day, had It when I was about 12 I think. 34 now. Started watching a few RC channels, how does that app work you all use to measure speed, is there a receiver in the car you stick on or something?
a suspension tune would really help too
cant wait to see it run on some tarmat ! :)
I have a Vendetta 3s esc and motor that wd wake that thing up nicely.
Would that body fit on the Hpi wr8 I love the original Subaru body’s
