    How are you guys liking the Xbox Series X/S so far? What TV/Monitor are you gaming on?!

    • @suneetmehta871

      Not buying next gen for now, maybe next year but might still prefer gaming on a monitor instead of a tv so going for this 1440p monitor istead of 4k to hit that sweet spot of quality and fps performance.
      What do you think? I currently have the Xbox One X.

    Crazy seeing an older, yet familiar face giving me tech advice on youtube. To think I used to party with this guy and his now wifey pants (congrats btw) roughly 14 years ago. Chris, its JP from the days out "WEST"! Almost didn't recognize you with the manly beard but that voice sounded awfully familiar from the get go. Thanks for the monitor recommendation! I've been looking up different monitors for the last 48 hours since I picked up my Series S and been STRUGGLING to keep my options capable and under $450. Actually went with the same model just a different variant (Gigabyte M27Q 27) with a built in KVM switch to let me swap inputs between my work laptop and Series S without additional cables and plugs! Should help keep my office setup pretty clean and tidy! Gaming on a budget is how I'm living these days, so you earned a sub! Be well and keep up the good work!
    Little advice; specify those HDMI 2.0 inputs; without em, you won't get above 60hz on either console through HDMI WITH 1440p resolution. I only say that cause not all the listings on Amazon specify this and it was kind of a pain to figure that out. I'm also still green on all the next gen tech specifics, so if this is sorta common knowledge for most, then disregard my minor criticism. Other than that, I like the videos and check youtube daily so keep em coming. Also gonna check out that headset you recommend cause my current TB stealth 700's are CRAYAP!

      WOW! JP! Challenge!? Ha. Used to go head to head with this guy in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 and Halo. Good times ha.
      On the Gigabyte M27Q, just be sure to update the firmware and you should be good to go for 1440P 120Hz. Originally it didn't work but they updated the firmware to get it working.
      Yeah man! Good call outs on the advice. I guess I assumed too much in saying that it wasn't HDMI 2.1 (meaning, it's obviously 2.0) but good call for sure. I stated that in my full review but not in the Xbox Only one.
      More videos definitely coming soon! I had a crazy past 2 months with work, family, Covid, and crap. Hit me up on facebook!

  • @shadowjfd
    @shadowjfd 3 года назад +1

    I'm using the asus vg32vq1b for the new xbox. After a week of tweakings and frustrations, this is the best settings that I found:
    Put the resolution to 1440p 120hz with the "Allow 4k" on, VRR on, and hdr off. If you're using hdr, you might see the 120hz active, but it will revert to 60hz when playing an hdr game. I don't mind, since the hdr on that monitor is bad, so it's better to leave it off. If you are using a good soundbar or AV, you can get the same settings as above, but without the VRR, since no AVs support that, unless it's hdmi 2.1.

    • @ChringyTechTalk
      @ChringyTechTalk  3 года назад

      If you disable "Allow 4K" then you should be able to get 1440p 120hz with VRR even while gaming. I haven't tested this specific monitor though but it sounds like same issue I had with mine which was the monitor using a downscaler to downscale a 4K game to 1440p however that caps the refresh rate at 60hz.

    • @shadowjfd
      @shadowjfd 3 года назад

      @@ChringyTechTalk well, i do notice the 120fps smoothness with the allow 4k activated, but only if the hdr is off. My asus monitor has a real time fps counter, and I can see the 120fps shown when starting a game and using the 120fps mode with the allow 4k also turned on (I've only tested this with Ori and SW Squadrons). If I activate hdr on top of that, the monitor will show 60 when starting a game. I guess it has to do with the vrr and hdr turned on at the same time, but I haven't tested that, yet.
      I've seen some videos stating that vrr and hdr are hateful to each other, meaning that hdr will affect or nullify the vrr if the display is not certified with freesync premium pro.

Do you think because you cant fully utilise all of its features and compensate on others, it might be worth swapping for a 4k screen? Understandably you would lose the speed/smoothness aspect, but maybe get to appreciate the consoles visuals more by being HDR/4k/VRR compatible? I can confirm personally that this monitor does 1440P+120hz+VRR at same time. I have not tested the EX2780Q though. It's an IPS panel though. Many people are having issues managing to make the console to recognize their monitors with that combo setting (because many monitors won't list resolution and frequency in a proper way that the console recognizes it). It would be nice if you make a video showing how you manage to set it up.
      Regarding IPS and VA, I've been very tempted to this particular monitor because of its Freesync Premium Pro capability and contrast, but the view angle range and color 'accuracy' leans me towards IPS panels.

As far as color accuracy, this is sitting next to my calman verified Asus ProArt display which is professionally calibrated and I find the colors look almost identical. I would say if it is to play consoles then I would go with the G32QC. If it's for both PC and console use and you can swing the extra money, then the G7 is super nice. You'll get 240hz refresh rate, a better stand (if you aren't planning on using a custom VESA mount), faster rise/fall time for blacks, and faster response time overall for motion. Everything else is equivalent though (HDR brightness, input lag, etc).
      One thing to note, the G7 is a 1000R curved screen so it is more aggressively curved than the 1500R of the G32QC. Some people like that and others hate that much of a curve. Something you just have to see for yourself.

      1.) Turn off freesync in xbox
      2.) Do a full shutdown of Xbox using the general settings for "Full Shutdown"
      3.) Turn on Freesync in monitor OSD (and make sure it's using HDMI 2.0)

      Might not work but, sometimes the Xbox is finicky without having a full shutdown in between major changes.

      I think I have found a fix and I have ordered one to test, but others have confirmed this works. It is an HDMI to DP adapter that supports 1440P 120hz. I have ordered it to confirm VRR functionality as well. Must do a full shutdown of the Xbox before hooking this up. Video to come when I receive it! Link - amzn.to/3r6Y0ba

      @@ChringyTechTalk I looked into picking up a converter awhile ago but I heard that image quality takes a pretty big hit. If iq holds up with this I'll definitely pick one up, and if MS adds hdr support at 1440p I'll have no reason to upgrade to a new display. Looking forward to your review 👍

    Would you recommend a TV in this price point over this gaming monitor? I don't really want to drop 1k on a new tv or monitor just to get specs that match.

      If I was aiming around 300-350, then I would go with the monitor. If you could spend ~600 then I would suggest the 55 inch TCL R635. I did a review on that TV if you want to check it out!

    Thanks for this video, in my case I received first the Xbox, I'm still waiting for the monitor, I bought the G27QC and i was sceptical on the 1440 120 with vrr until I saw this, very informative!! ... Do you think i can update the firmware without using mouse and keyboard? It was easy to put 1440 120 with vrr? I saw a lot of people on reddit saying it was impossible for them to get 1440 120 working and they are returning the monitor

    • @ChringyTechTalk

      I believe Gigabyte recommends updating the firmware through their OSD Sidekick software. If you have a laptop on hand, you could do it through that!
      Regarding the 1440p, 120hz, and VRR..just make sure you have "Allow 4K" disabled in the Xbox video settings and it's super easy from there!

      @@ChringyTechTalk Finally got mine yesterday, it's an amazing monitor, everything is working great.. I'm trying to update the firmware through my laptop but I think is bugged for me, when I press download on the OSD nothing happens, says firmware version f13 but does not download anything, i downloaded the firmware from the gigabyte support webpage and it was f01, installed that firmware thinking after that it's gonna show me the F13 firmware but now i'm stuck on F01 and i can't go back to F13... Do you only press the download button and works? I don't know what more can i do, is impossible to find that firmware F13 or any other number more advanced than F01 on Google, Thanks for the help man and sorry for my english
