Super glad you enjoyed the game! One thing that stood out to me about DQ11 is how you come across a major revelation almost every play session. It hooks you!
If you look at the title of DQXI, it says “Echoes of Elusive Age” and in Japanese it says “ In Search of a Lost Time” that’s the whole point of Act 3. You’re searching for a way to restore the past in order to set up the first DQ trilogy, the Erdrick Trilogy(I-III). When you see that Knight at the end, that’s the ancestor of Erdrick from DQIII and he’s the hero from the first game. Plus the way how Act 3 was structured, it structured to be like the old DQ games from I-III more specifically III where you gather clues on how to beat the boss and you don’t have a guide to figure out what to do next.
Just because there was a reason for something, it doesn't mean that it's good writing. Act 3 is terrible and I was never the biggest fan of time travelling/time manipulation, as it always brings more problems and inconsistencies than answers
@@dimitrijekulak3347 you don’t understand the nuances and tiny details why Act 3 is genius. You’re used to the Final Fantasy cliche of developed characters with one or two of them died for a noble cause or act of heroism and an epic ending.
@@shawnsindulfoabellana3912 I do understand, I don't know why are you assuming that I don't. I just don't like it. The end of Act 2 was phenomenal. Act 3 decided to ruin everything. Serena, Rab, Hendrick, Erick, so many great characters moments were ruined, only so you could bring back Veronica and create two timelines. Not to mention that they never explained how the whole time travelling thing works. There is a reason why so many people dislike Act 3
@@dimitrijekulak3347 that’s why its called Dragon Quest not Final Dragon Quest Fantasy. You have to interpret and look for context clues in the cutscenes that lead up to Act 3. Dragon Quest unlike Final Fantasy, doesn’t spoon fed you with long info with long ass cutscenes just to get wth is happening
When it comes to Pep, the indicator on when it’ll activate is when how many times you hit an enemy as well as landing critical hits, getting hit by the enemy(including their desperate attacks), and your character’s turn in battle. That’s how Pep increases and activates in battle. It’s not that random.
lol i've never played or seen a perfect game but this game is one that gets as close as it can! ive played it over and over and still adore it! Also I'd love to watch you play Dragon Quest honestly! I love 4 and am playing it again rn actually lol!
Before playing DQ11 I had only played Dragon Warrior one and three on the NES. This ended up being one of my favourite RPG of all time. And I wouldn’t have tried it if it wasn’t for the demo on the shop
My nostalgia for the NES game (despite not knowing what I was doing back then) is the reason I picked up this game. I also slept on DQ8 because i still didn't care for RPGs at the time that game was new. I also fell in love after playing the demo...and from what I hear, that demo is pretty damn long!
Glad you enjoyed DQ11S and see what the series has to offer. If you wanted to get into other series, I recommend getting DQ8 on the 3DS as that's another popular title and some might argue it's the best DQ game. No matter the case, you decide. There are so many good Dragon Quest games that you miss out on.
it is great with the orchestral mod and restoration patch, but he should experience the og dq8. just get pcsx2 and play dq8 on there in 1080p, and it will look fantastic.
So I adore this game. I’m really glad you enjoyed it! This games replay value is so high IMO. My second play through is really dug into the mechanics like crafting, doing all the side quests and going after all the monsters and everything and MAN it feels so rewarding on a second play through if you didn’t pay much attention to that stuff. It adds an awesome layer of depth to a game you thought you already knew. Highly recommend replaying it when you feel you’re up to it!!
I played the demo like 3-4 times and I could not get into the game. Then one day I tried changing the combat to traditional turn based instead of running around for no reason and made it past 10 hours. I can honestly say it's one of my favorite games as well. Loved it. Minus the soundtrack
I agree, the whole "running around during battle" gimmick was superfluous at best. I was quick to turn that off, too. I also set the game to auto-battle while i trained to get stronger. However, I disagree about the soundtrack. The orchestrated version that comes with 11S is *chef's kiss*
I think this may be my favorite RPG ever. Haven't finished yet but I've cried a few times and laughed and it's "cartoonish" but in a way that's so cool. I like many of the cut scenes better than movies. This the first one I've played but I want to get all the others now.
The main reason I was interested in this game, despite not loving RPGs all that much, is because I still have nostalgia for the very first game on the NES, F.K.A. Dragon Warrior. So I downloaded the demo...and I don't even think I was an hour in before I fell in love and decided I wanted to buy the full game. Now I'm stuck right outside the door to the final final boss, because I'm underpowered by about 20 levels and i don't wanna grind.
I am very new to DQ (coming from the FF fandom) and I'm only 12 hours into this beast of a game but I am having an absolute blast. I agree with the PS2 flavor of this game and I love that a lot. I'm so excited to pick it back up tonight because it's never a chore to play this game!
Good fun and engaging story, what lets this title down is how mind numbingly easy it is. I'm not a min-maxer or a power gamer but stormed this entire game without wiping.
Bo, please listen to me. This might sound weird but the definitive DQ4 experience is actually the mobile port. It's the exact same as the DS version except for the fact that the companion dialogue is finished whereas the DS version did not finish all of the unique dialogue due to budget cuts. To me personally, this is a big deal cuz 4 has the richest cast in my opinion so companion dialogue reslly adds to the game. That beint said, its not the end of the world just do what you think is worth it to you. Just thought I'd let you know in case dialogue is something you value highly. Oh and please check out Sackchief's playing order video it's very informative
I played DQ11 on the switch in 2019 and it was like reading a book at night, its probably my favourite game. The main issue is with the music, I can only recall one song from the game that is actually original and not from previous games and thats the battle music which got annoying really quickly
DQ npcs are the best cuz not only they are unique but pretty much every JRPG npc only have one liners and DQ npcs feels more like real people. About the music Sugiyama the main music composer for DQ is an old man when he composed for DQXI. That’s why you see repetitive tracks. You need to do your research on the three creators of DQ: Yuji Horii, Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama. Cuz they’re the ones who created this thing and no Toriyama is NOT the writer for DQ its Horii and he’s THE Creator of the series.
I’ve played dq11 and dq8 about 10 times each. If you loved dq11 you will love dq8, it’s basically the same game. Same kinda story, characters, quests, etc just a bit more dated. Recommend playing the 3ds version if you can, no random encounters and other quality of life improvements
Kinda funny how most rpgs always have 1 or 2 characters you don't like or barely put in your team. For me, it's Veronica. She's strong, but i just don't like her character. Guess i prefer "boring" characters like Serena or Yukiko in Persona 4.
Playeressence is always clowning on DQ music. He doesn’t like the trumpets, specifically. I just finished 100%ing Dragon Quest VIII. It’s a top 5 PS2 jrpg. Probably third best after Persona 4 and FFX. But I have a couple others I like more than most.
Yeah sugiyama was pushing 90 at this point and the OST was not large enough. Def the weakest OST in the series. 4 5 and 6 are GOATED osts (6 being my personal favorite).
All the monsters I’ve seen in dragon quest games I’ve seen look hella weird. Pokémon look way cooler, in general. Never got into dragon quest and probably never will. I prefer playing other Square Enix RPG’s (Such as Star Ocean The Second Story R) and Pokémon Games, as well as other genres. The animations and art design of the characters and monsters in dragon quest look weird, like a childish anime program or sth lol, I ain’t vibing with it.
The art style is from Akira Toriyama (dragon ball franchise creator) has really great monster designs. Ig you just don’t like his cartoony style? It just fits the game very well-it’s part of the charm. The animations are soo good though, something that pokemon lacks.

DQ music while not changing much is so nostalgic for me I came around to not wanting more variety

No, Act 3 is terrible and has poor writing. 90% of it is you doing the things that you did in Act 2, but with much worse writing
