    I think Calasmos being the real villain that the Hero was destined to fight, actually strengthens Mordegon's character. He's not just some cliche reincarnated evil villain, he's actively interfering with fate to gain power and control the world. Calasmos is just a prop in his master plan. But yeah, the time travel stuff isn't great because it undermines the struggles the party went through throughout the game. It's an interesting plot twist, but it could've been executed better imo.

      Honestly thats a fair way of looking at it. I dont hate the idea of calasmos, but like the time travel i wish it was executed better

    Act 3 is quite possibly the most diversive part of the game. While I get why some people are not an fan of it, I don't mind and it's not as bad as some might think. Here's why.
    First off, yes. Going back to areas you already visited for the 3rd time is tedious and the level scale might catch you off guard. But there completely optional. You don't have to do them. You might want to if you wonna get more powerful weapons, abilities and other upgrade stuff. The difficulty curve isn't that horrendous. With most of your abilities and power ups that you have previously are still presented in this game. You'll still be in an upper hand and you'll be leveling up alot more faster if done correctly. And all those events that happened from previous acts can still be done in Act 3. You can still rescue Mia, help Miko's son back to normal, visited Syvaldo's father & confront him how strong his son were & why he left in the first place, why Jasper was jealous of Hendrick and so on. There are other events that didn't happen from previous act that's new in which was controlled by Calasmos; like the return of the big spider from Octagonia & so on. You are doing the same events as you already done before. Yes. But it's more so that what would happened if Yggsdrasil didn't fall and what the worlds would be like without any destruction. It's more of an 2nd chance and fix many things that went wrong from previous acts. Yeah. The cast that had alot of development from previous act were erase. But it was for the best and even they knew it would sacrifice there development they worked hard for. They still get it back and we already learn about that. So it wasn't an total loss.
    Speaking of which, there were many questions that was left out from previous acts that was finally answered in the last act. Like who was Erdrick & his companion & what's there purpose? Who were The Watchers? What was that floating island and why it's missing it's other lands? Who was Calasmos that was mentioned during the Gallopolis Ruins excavation in Act 2? What was the glowing star ball for up in the ruins? Why didn't Veronica return to her taller self that we saw in the opening intro? Who was that gypsy land that help getting Erik out of Mordagen's prison from an floating island or was in The Hero's image in one scene? Why has the Hero became an Luminary? They were so many answers that was left in previous act and it gaves us all the answers in this act. This act is the reason that is worth of continuing the game and it's also important because the next storyline would eventually takes it to the next Dragon Quest title in it's chronological timeline. Specifically the beginning of the Erdrick Trilogy in Dragon Quest 3 & so on. It's why this specific act is important to all of the Dragon Quest universe because without it, than the world of Dragon Quest wouldn't exist.
    Sorry for the long comment here. But I wonna makes things clear. I know some people who plays this game couldn't go all the way through Act 3 because they were like " It ruins the characters. Why they do this? It takes too long to complete. This game is hard " All that shenanigans and none of them are exactly true nor they didn't playthrough all the way because they just couldn't handle it. Like I said, Act 3 is an very diversive part and I understand if it's not something your looking forward too, than that's fine. But the act isn't as bad as people make it out to be and the game is still great to play regardless. As long as the quality of the game is well design enough and if your having fun, than that is all it matters. If something goes wrong, than it can be an problem. But that's not the case here. Hope you will understand.

    • @Pistallion1

      The problem is that they could have done it in a way where time travel wasn't nessicary to the storyline while still answering those questions.
      However, I just started act 3 so take my opinion with a grain of salt lol

    • @jaretco6423
      @jaretco6423 8 месяцев назад

      @Pistallion1 I understand what your saying. I think some people are overreacting cause of the whole time travel shenanigans, assassination of character development and whatnot that they didn't want to continue the game. Yeah. It's another one of those things that we've seen before. But at least it had an purpose and not as overcomplicated as most do. It gives you another chance to stop this event from happening again, but you still can do everything that you done from previous acts in an better situation. In some ways. It's kinda like Zelda: Majora's Mask. You help people that were in trouble and solves the problem. But you have to travel back from 3 days from the moon crashing and it resets the events that never happened, helps others and rense & repeat. And when the beat the game, everything is back to normal. That's how it is with this game.

      @Crimsonrosso Agreed. I can't remember if everyone regains their memories (been awhile) but it cheapens it. What I disliked more than anything was all the hardships everyone went through (Sylvando world traveling to bring happiness to people, the kings remorse, etc) was basically deleted. That sense of completion when ending act 2 just felt great because it felt like a resolution to all the crap they went through as a group/friends.

    Great review. I know it's a common agreement among the fans, but I disagree with the post game ruining the game.
    The post game is what links this game to the original Dragon Quest trilogy. The Develpment of the characters happens regardless. The hero sacrifices everything for a better chance to set things right. The reset in the characters personality actually makes those developments more important. The reason most people care about those resets is proof of that.

      It also explains many quesions that were left out from previous 2 acts and gave us an answer in Act 3. Like what's this Calasmo person they mentioned in Gallopolis ruins? Who & what were Erdrick and his companions? What were The Watchers real purpose? What was the floating island there we saw in the 2nd act and what the others that were destroyed from Mordagen? Why we haven't figured out Veronica not returning to her normal size that we saw at the opening cutscene? Who was that gypsy lady that helps getting Erik out of Mordagen's prison from that floating island? All that question that was left from Act 1 & 2 were answered in Act 3. Also, the postgame isn't that bad.

  • @raulrojas9253
    @raulrojas9253 7 месяцев назад +2

    I never understand why people have an issue with Act III at all, is more gameplay, more bosses, more content.
    And Time travel doesn't undermine anything because Hero is the one going back in time and he leaves his time line without a Luminary, this have repercusions for that time line.
    We get Veronica back which is a powerhouse and I never liked Serena so is a win win for me at least.
    Calasmos is in the story the fact that Mordergon tried his best to get rid of Him so he can be the big bad is in the freaking story.

    • @Crimsonrosso
      @Crimsonrosso  7 месяцев назад +3

      2. The problem with veronica coming back is due to no emotional payoff. The luminary doesn’t react in the slightest to her return and as a result is left up to the player to feel it, but its hard when time travel literally majes it so those thears are pointless.
      3. Calasmos is an issue because he didnt need to exist in the first place, he has no personality, hes nowhere bear as interesting as mordagon, and he has little to no stake in the entire story. Thats why hes an issue.

The only thing you have to do go on skill trees and have get there abilities back as they were and even than, you can learn different abilities than the current ones you originally have. It's no big deal.
