    Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age won my heart over at release, and I'd like to share that with you. I am very new to JRPG's and typically only played ones with western styles such as Dragons Dogma. I never really got into turn-based fighting unless it was something like Valkyrie Chronicles or an obscure one called 'Operation Darkness' (WWW2 ...Nazis are Vampires and The Brits are Were Wolves ala x-com). But I find some of these games seem soothing and story driven. One Game I did purchase was Lost Odyssey exclusive on the Original XBox that had turn-based and I actually liked it Resonance of Fate. Would you recommend this or something like Final Fantasy ? (the newest one)? I like big worlds, good story, and exploration, along with good rpg elements like weapons, armor etc. Such a good video, kinda reminds me of like a fable 2 (I like the color palette with cartoony characters...I don't like the straight up exaggerated anime graphics with kids with cat ears etc. LOL) with turn-base combat. I blabbed on enough, hopefully you can help me out. Thanks

    Thank you, sincerely, from the bottom of my heart. Being a second gen Japanese, I had the privilege to play the dragon quest series without the localization problems of the mid 90's. But... Felt a little lonely, due to that fact. Not many people with in my sphere played or even heard of the series and still haven't tried them out even though it's far more easier now to get a hold of them. So my passion for this game always has been by my lonesome, even if I did have family members who have played it, the sentiments were already shared and know among us. So I found myself seeking let's plays and luminations of franchise to fill the void of connection to others through this franchise. And your video series might help spread the word of this series to a wider audience. Thank you again, from a dragon quest fan.

    The best thing about RUclips is stumbling across a modestly sized channel with inexplicably and exorbitantly rich and impassioned videos like yours, GC.
    I can see the heart, the mindfulness and the initiative to create such well executed dives about some of my favourite games that have impacted me and others. In your presentation I can sense the real camaraderie you have for a shared experience. Your fresh takes have certainly opened my eyes to the artistry of the dragon quest series in particular.
    Your points are presented with beyond appropriate humility as to their veracity, and combined with how you substantiate each of them leads to the presentation of a very well adjusted presenter with even more burgeoning talent.

One of the things I've always wanted out of watching RUclips videos about [insert subject] was for a greater emphasis on breaking down the thoughts being presented. The videos where whoever I'm listening to leads me through their train of thought so that I can see what they see are always the ones I'm most engaged in, and I tried to replicate that! While I wouldn't disagree with the points you made about the theme of the story, I have a slightly different takeaway: For me DQXI was about seperation from family, the effects of it and finally reuniting with them.
    Most of the stories in DQXI deal with some kind of family and seperation from them. The family of the Luminary gets torn apart, so he grew up in a small village with a new family but then reunites with his granddad on his journey. Eric has to leave his sister because of a curse, goes on his own adventure because of it but reunites with her. Veronica and Serena are really close, but get torn apart because of the calamity and get reunited in a more spiritual way. Sylvando runs away from home, travels with a circus, discoveres more about himself but reunites with his father. Rab reunites with the only part of his family that is left, like I said. Hendrik has to leave his home and family aka the king, his best Friend Jasper and his kingdom. But reunites with his kingdom at least (at the end of Part 2) and reunites also with his king at most. (aka Part 3) Jade gets seperated from her second family and her real family, has to grow up differently than she was supposed to and not only kinda finds a new family but also gets reunited with her father.
    Then there are sidequests/side stories like the one with the small child whose family died but finds a new family in the criminal that takes care of her after that. (who also turns into a "good" guy because of her) The one with the mermaid and the man she fell in love with + his son. The father that pays for his daughter, that lives far away from him, so she can work in a bakery etc.

    • @GCVazquez
      @GCVazquez  5 лет назад +8

      That's a great takeaway! The reuniting of family fits right into making amends and rebuilding bridges lost as well, so this is something I can very much get behind!

    Although some parts could have been condensed, I've always been glad to see the length of your reviews. Definitely shows the amount of passion you have for the series and further engages dialogue between fans.
    Just one note, it'd be nice if you included a track list with credit in the background audio. Really wanna know what song is playing around the 7 min mark.
    Edit: While I certainly felt the overall thematic suggestion for the game was acceptance, dealing with adversity, and the need to confront the uncomfortable to grow. The third act really shit all over that prospect, and admittedly felt rushed and without polish in order to "fairy tale" end it. Really wish you would have given your opinion about it.

    • @GCVazquez
      @GCVazquez  5 лет назад +4

      I'm in the process of editing together a video about those post-game elements, coincidentally. What I'll say here is: I think the idea is that your character carries a burden everyone else is oblivious to, and you the player carry it too. As the player, the last part feels hollow for a reason and it's because you ultimately don't get to relish in the success. Ultimately, you give someone else the power to make things right, and live on knowing your actions have helped a great deal of people who will genuinely celebrate and be happy because of it. But it's not your victory if that makes sense? I think a lot of the third act is another of saying, "Okay fine, you do things right. Guess what? You still feel like shit. You know what's better? Giving someone else the power to make things right for themselves."

    • @GCVazquez
      @GCVazquez  5 лет назад +1

      Full disclosure? Scriptwriting is my slowest part of the process- I can usually get 1 or 2 pages out a day over the course of 4-8 hours. This script exceeds twenty pages, the voice recording was close to eight hours or something like that, and the game itself took me 122 hours to beat- all of it I recorded for footage. Condensing voice recordings into single takes of each piece of script can usually take me half a work day- if I'm looking at 2 or 3 hours of audio. Assembly for a twenty minute video can take me 10-20 hours, and then editing another 10-20 depending on how intense the editing is.
      So multiply that sum of however many hours by four, and divide that among a normal work week for a student getting his Bachelor's degree and going to LOTS of work interviews and filling out applications.
      What I mean to say is: THIS IS A TREMENDOUS COMPLIMENT THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THIS VERY LONG PROJECT.

    I really enjoyed this video and the way you methodically covered everything about it. But I'm gonna be honest, I don't think this needed to be an hour long. There's a lot here that kinda feels like long secondary build-ins to your point. And maybe it's due to my preferences as well, but there were points where I was waiting for you to get to your point. Having said that, I really liked everything up until a story discussion. Like I think you've sold me on a game I couldn't have less interest in, in a passionate way that eagerly makes me want to dump all my life force into. I am very late but this was my introduction to Dragon Quest and it was a very important game for me, it showed me that videos aren't just a form of entertaiment. It showed me video games could be both a escapism and art. I got this game at the very beginning of summer 2020, since we were all stuck inside I played this game all day throught the entire of summer vacation. I named the hero after me and as cheesy as it may sound, I felt connected to the party members.They felt like my friends, they felt like people I want to be friends with and when I helped them with their problems in the second act, I didn't do it to progress the story. I did it because I wanted to help them, because they were my friends. So when it was about a week before school starting and I beat the final boss and I saw all the party members smiling and happy that it is over. I started to get teary eyed, and when the credits played, I admit I shed a few tears.
