The musical opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then. Now in its 30th record-breaking year, The Phantom of the Opera continues to captivate audiences at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End, after more than 11,000 performances.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s mesmerizing score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.

I think it’s very exhilarating to see Andrew Lloyd Webber watch his music for Phantom of the Opera come to life in a large landmark such as the Empire State Building. Webber has outdone himself with his music and to this day, he still continues to share his love for music by keeping the story of the Phantom of the Opera alive today. Happy 30th, Phantom! And I hope there will be many more years for Phantom to stay at New York.

I just finished watching the video, and I'm honestly in tears. No joke there. Phantom of the Opera has been part of my life for God knows how long - ever since I was nine, I guess, when I started reading the Gaston Leroux novel. Ever since then, it's like I've dedicated my whole life to Phantom. Because I live in Asia, and I'm only a college student, it's difficult for me to travel to New York or to London to watch the production. Sure, it toured in my country back in 2011 but I didn't really have enough money. RUclips and Tumblr has been my source of all things Phantom of the Opera, not to mention the 25th anniversary with Sierra and Ramin, plus the Original London Cast Recording of Michael and Sarah.
I'm just so happy that Phantom had the chance to play on Broadway and London for more than thirty years because it gives me hope that it would stay on for another thirty years, just giving me the right amount of time to save up some money and travel to these places to actually witness this amazing show. Touring companies are great and all, but I heard nothing beats the Broadway or London feels.
Happy 30th anniversary Phantom of the Opera, and I hope this musical gets to touch more lives, as it touched mine.

I'm from Chile, in South America, and I've never got the chance to go and see these wonderful productions, just as you, I watch them in youtube or videos on internet. It has I started watching and listening and read the book when I was 6 years old I'm now 12 years old and I'm in love with it its just so amazing I know all the words and lyrics I want to be on Broadway with it and am the only kid In my school that knows what the heck it is and I cried while watching this because it is just so amazing and more people should know about it

HEard the music in 1989s with DCI's Santa Clara Vanguard. Researched the Author, Read the book, saw the broadway performance with the original cast, and got a tattoo of the phantom. Long live POTO and congrats Sir Webber !!

The Phantom of the Opera has been a huge staple in my life. I've read the novel when I was in h.s. and I dressed as the Phantom in Halloween in 2014 with the rose, the mask, the hat and the cape. Watching this spectacular light show brought tears to my eyes and what a joy to celebrate 30 years of the show.

This was really cool. It makes me feel so happy I saw Phantom of the Opera on December 29th, 2017 in New York City finally. I didn't get to meet any of the cast after the show, but it was magical to finally see in person, and special for me because I sang "Music of the Night" in a talent show in high school. It was even magical just to hear the music to "Music of the Night" in this video. Happy 30th anniversary, Phantom of the Opera on Broadway!!!!

Saw the show in Vegas but would LOVE to see it in NYC
The Vegas Chandelier was so amazing I get sad during the other productions (touring show and Broadway) Chandelier scene. They aren't nearly as exciting and riveting as Vegas'. So sad that it is no longer there. But of course the music and show are still amazing!

I would assume this was broadcasted on the telly, so they just add it in post.
I honestly think it would’ve been cool for a lot of people to have heard the music in the city streets while this was going on I get goosebumps from just watching the video, but if they had played the music in the streets it would’ve been cool to be a bystander watching and hearing this going on but I’m sure some people wouldn’t have been a fan of it it the music was blaring but I wish that’s what they did! And I was actually watching a video from Ali Edwolt who was playing Christine at the time and she was filing this as it was going on and they could hear it in the floor they were on
Right? Like it would have been weird if no one outside could hear the music but they just see all these flashing lights.

OMG I finally found something that looks like the inside of my brain! Sometimes I think my perfect pitch gives me some weird form of limited synesthesia. I don't physically see anything with my eyes, but when I hear music, colors involuntarily seem to light up the inside of my mind.
