Thanks Erin. I’m subscribed to numerous coloring channels and yours is the first to go teach techniques.
Hi Fluffy Bunny! Why thank you! I do recommend that you check out tips on lots of channels though. We all teach things and do things a little differently, so you can take a little from here and there and figure out what works best for you that way!
I have owned prismacolor pencils for years and never knew how to use them. Thank you so much
Bruh years and still don’t know?
I just got some and didn't know about these techniques either...
That white pencil is awesome. Such soft, warm results.
Best showing of blending I've seen on the steps you did on the pink to purple flower ! Perfect blending 101 !
Im 65 a d been sketching all my life. Im something of a perfectionist so never moved very far beyond anything i couldnt erase.
After playing with some colred pencils i decided its time to dive in and bought a set of72 prismacolor. Fantastic! A d your blending tutorial was so inspirational and just what i needed.
Thankyou! I saw a few others first and wasnt impressed. Really glad i tried one more time a d found yours!
Thankyou for your expertise and easy to understand instruction a d tips
I just discovered your channel and am looking forward to watching this whole series of videos. I love the instructions. Thank you so much ☺️
Hi Jana! Thank you for watching, and I'm glad you're enjoying the series!
You are a great teacher for beginners. Looks like you are no longer doing videos here and am sad about this. A huge thank you for all you did share.
I’m currently working on this and following along I’m loving my prismas more and more and all Thanks to you Erin thank you for these series of learning with prismas ❤️
Awwwww! Thank you. I just finished watching your tutorials. Actually just happened to find it. Am I glad I did. Prismacolors pencils are my favorite. I bought the 150 count and I wanted to really know how to use them properly and I can now start coloring. Thank you so much for your tutorials. PilarK
Been trying to decide if I wanted to buy a blender pencil; and I honestly had no idea how all of the various tools and blenders even worked.
Very, very, very helpful video for me!
Awesome visuals and explanations.
Thank you so much 😄
Great tutorial and I learned so much about blending. My favorite coloring book is Liberty. I had to order it and enjoy coloring pages based on Liberty fabrics.
Thank you, Shelby!!!
Thanks for sharing your techniques. They are very useful. It would be neat to watch how you would do the other elements in the picture. Maybe include a technique or two on using gel pens with your prismacolors.
+Vanda Cole I'm really considering doing a coloring video where I just turn the camera on every time I color and then put the whole thing together at the end
Oh my gosh! I would have loved to see you color the birds! Could you perhaps revisit this and at least show us your finished page (as I’m sure you completed it by now). We beginners could surely benefit from what colors you used. I am loving your color alongs!
Erin dear, thank you so much for putting this series together! I appreciate you so much for sharing your knowledge and love your teaching style. I’ve been away from colored pencils for a number of years and enjoying using them again as I continue in my retirement. I had an AHA moment last night with the prismacolor colored pencils. At first I couldn’t see what the big deal was with them. They weren’t laying down well for me. Layer after layer, with still too much white showing through my blues and greens. I was coloring the background of the sharks on Johanna Basford’s Lost Ocean post cards. And therein lay the issue, ‘cos these postcards are printed on heavy card stock. I just wasn’t pressing hard enough. So this morning I used medium to heavy pressure with the prismacolor color and blending pencils and whaa-laa beautiful, vibrant colors began to appear on my postcard. So I’d like to add to your class what I learned. When using heavy card stock you’ve got to use a medium to heavy pressure if you want some vibrant color. Thank you again for sharing. Blessings to you!
Thanks Erin your videos have been so informative and intrigued my interest in using my prismacolor pencils that it had put away after buying than bc I got so discouraged and frustrated after purchasing them. Since I've been following your videos I have now started using them and I now know how to use them.. Thank you so very much for all your time spent on this and seriously teaching me what I couldn't learn before. Thanks to you my money wasnt a waste after all. Thanks again.. Can't wait to see more awesome tutorials..
Great lesson Erin! You are so very welcome for the Happy Mail. That was so sweet of you to acknowledge me in your video. It made me blush. 😊 I have no idea where I got my personalized stamp. I have been making handmade cards for over 20 years now and got this stamp eons ago. I am sure you could do a google search and find something similar. Enjoy your coloring book! 🤗
Aww! Haha. Yeah, I think I will! I loved the little personal touch, and I'm definitely enjoying the coloring book, too!
This series is excellent
Wow!! You thought of everything. So much useful information. Thank you:)
Thank u so much for these tutorials. They have helped me out so much. I hope you will post more prismacolor tips and tutorials👍🏻
I’m really enjoying this! I look for these every day. Lol. Thank you for putting the time in for us! And congratulations on your gift!!!
Thank you so much, Robin! I'm having fun making them, too! And yes... Shari's gift was very special! It makes taking the time to plan and record videos worth it... just knowing that someone appreciates it is touching! Plus, there's something so heartwarming about receiving handmade cards that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Haha.
Thank you for posting this because I’m 11 and i love art and I’ve been doing art for a while and a friend bought me some prismacolor pencils awhile ago and I haven’t used them to much because I could never find a good video to show me how to blend them and now that I have found this video I can finish my drawing that I’m giving to someone at a concert so thank you for this!
Great lesson Erin!! Thanks for sharing your techniques!
Thank you, Diane! My pleasure! :D
Your colouring is amazing! I have a hard time picking colors that go well together...
Thank you for showing me how to play now now I know how to do so so now great video I enjoyed it I hope I can do well I make blending if not I go to white mediums I will get the Branding marker
Like others that have commented I would love for you to do more videos, especially one covering the birds. Thank you for your time and effort into producing such informative videos.
Hi Katrina! I'll see what I can do. :) Thanks for your comment!
Hi Erin.. thanks for a great tutorial. I am enjoying your channel very much. Have been coloring for about a year and teaching myself with mixed results. I've graduated from Crayola to Prismacolor and Polychromos. Love both for different reasons. I have arthritis in my hands and the change to artist level pencils has made a big difference in the level of pain and the quality of my coloring. I have an ever growing collection of coloring books and am still very cautious about what what I tackle. I recently started Johanna's Christmas and am pleased with my results. Would like to see a tutorial about grayscale coloring. I am eager to try that. Thanks again and enjoy your happy mail!
Hi Nancy... I have a very brief tutorial on my channel, but it's one of my older videos and the quality may not be very nice. You're welcome to check it out! I added it to my list of video requests, too, so perhaps if I get a grayscale coloring book I really adore that's ideal for such a thing, I'll try to do an entire picture. I have a couple grayscale books, but I don't think they're the best for on-camera coloring. Thanks for your comments!
Now this series was so informative! I learned quite a lot..TFS your talent..💕 Added this series to my favs..
Thank you Sharon! I'm glad you found it useful!
I know I just commented on the other video but thank you for having this series! I love mixed media and for the longest time ive been looking for something to color with which I have the artist loft dual tip watercolor markers but even with the 48 count i believe, its hard to get a great gradient without diluting the color so much for me so i really think im going to love these pencils!
YAY! I'm glad you think they'll be a better option for you!
Thank you. This helped me a lot. I love Prismacolors and have old ones from when they were still Berol Prismacolours. I have bought the Premium and Scholar Prismacolors. I prefer the Premium myself. I need a new Cream Prismacolor as I use this as a blender pencil as well as white. LOL I am going to go look for blending pencils now. I really love the effects of blending with the pencils.
You're welcome Moriganna! YES! The blending pencils are my favorites! I have a link to them in the description box.. the least expensive I could find for Prismacolor. They go up and down all the time!
I go to our local Michael's as I can't order online. I have many disabilities and no credit card. I use art as a therapy as well as Adult Colouring. I own this book and have about 15-20 others. Hahaha! You can get just as creative colouring in an adult colouring book as you can with your own art. It is just something I love and find relaxing.
Michaels should have them, as well. I've NEVER been to a Michaels! I'll be going the next time I take a trip to Blick, though.. they're only a couple miles apart.
It is so worth it. They sell individual Prismacolor crayons and other brands as well. It is such fun there. LOL
Very good a lot of information I'll have to watch this again. Thank you for your time and effort.
+Charmaine Schultz You are very welcome! Thank you for watching. :)
I don't have the blender pencil but my coloring is amazing. I don't layer my colorings because that method takes so long if you're coloring in a coloring book and I'm a little impatient. I might consider the blender pencil later on in the future.
Wow, The more I see the better it gets. Amazing thank you
Thank you so very much!
Helped me so much please do moreeeeee can’t wait to watch them all xo
Thank you. I can tell this took a lot of work for you to create and share!!!
I'd like to get into prismacolors coloring with pencils seems fun , I think this was very helpful especially for someone like me !
Glad to hear, Coratison!
Thank you. very clear directions for this Newbe. Love colored pencils but never knew how to blend. TYFS
Cool video! I love drawing with prisma pencils so this will be useful!
Thank you! This is easy to follow and to the point! Really helpful!
This series is so great and full of information. Thank you so much. Super helpful!!!❤️
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching, Debbie.
So I got my prismacolors yesterday and I got some other art things including a blending stump, is there any other way to use the stump? I need help 😂
Maybe for prisma color stump is not often used because its wax based but if its fccp you need those in order to blend because the texture of fccp classic is quite rough
Thanks!! I’ve had this set of prismas sitting in my closet cause it was a gift and I’m not very artsy but this was easy to follow and I’m gonna practice
I absolutely love your videos I’ve learnt a lot in a short while and I have been practicing some of the techniques. Thanks Erin xx
Her channel name: Simple Art For Adults
Me at 11:..........
@Kitty Contortion Same!
Me being 13....not that much older!!🤣
Savage
12 as well lol
Thanks for taking the time to do this!
Thank you for this series, I've been needing a comprehensive brush-up on Prismas since I started using them specifically for coloring. I have to say, and I've felt this way since college art school days, I have never understood why people like using gamsol and OMS for blending. I feel like it's just not as smooth as other methods, like even BABY OIL lol. I'd rather work up more layers and use rubbing alcohol (or a fancy colorless alcohol marker lol) because I dunno, just don't like the paint thinner. And burnishing is WAY TOO FINAL for me because I never feel like I'm done hahahah. But at some point, you have to be, so I'll just blend with the pencils and call it finished. But again, thank you for this much-needed series, you explain the pencils very well.
OMG!!! THIS TUTORIAL VIDEO IS FREAKING AWESOME!!! Thank you sooo much Erin!!! I have learnt sooo much from you and totally love you and your vids!!!! I have discovered how to save vids I find this Great so I can return to it as often as I wish.
Love ya girl!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
if you used a little more pressure or color for the colorless blend i bet it would look better im excited to try it seems funner to just colorless blend an entire thing and watch it come more to life then slowly do it the other way
Thank you. I was wondering about the baby oil blending residue.
I'm only 13 but really interested in art and have always wanted these pencils. I'm asking for them for christmas and i want to know the best set for beginers or if i should even get them. HELP
Hi Kennedy! I'm so glad you're interested in art! I hope you're finding the videos very helpful. My oldest daughter is 15 and she's an artist, too! She prefers markers to pencils, but she does have a set of 24 Prismacolor pencils and she loves them! They're very soft compared to other pencils, so it takes some time to get used to them... but you can do magical things with them once you do! Best of luck to you!
Kennedy S im 13 tooo
Kennedy S premier 48 pack and the acecory kit with the blenders erasers and pencil holders maybe a stump too.
Thank you for the tips! I've been using them on my new picture from Inky! I didn't know that about the blender marker, was thinking of getting one, but may hold off now. And that is awesome that you got the book, very sweet of her! I went around yesterday to the only two Dollar Generals within 30 miles of me looking for one, no luck. But it's okay, I have Inky now so all is right in my world :D
I'll try to think of any tips that may of been missed, but so far you've seemed to of covered everything nicely :)
Thanks! Please let me know if you think of something. :) And yeah, my DGs are all out of coloring books altogether. It's funny.
Very helpful! I got my Prismacolors yesterday and the blender. First impressions: Prisma are great, but they don't blend well with Polychromos...I had no idea how to use the blender pencil...thought it would be like rubber and was shocked it is hard! Scratched my whole paper...hm have to improve my skills, I guess🙈
Just found your channel! Great series -thank you! Nice gift and really cute card she made!
Thank you so very much, and yes, she did a wonderful job!
Very clear and useful tutorial, many thanks for it. 💐💐💐
What kind of eraser do you use? I did notice the electric one with tiny eraser tip. What is the gray colored one? Thanks for great instruction on blending. You give clear, understandable helps. Thanks do much.
Just recently bought a pack for the first time ever, and didn’t know how to use them. I didn’t want to damage them either.
I have poured Gamsol mineral over cotton bowls an covered them with a led an it works great😅
Love your videos... you explain very well!!
Would like to do more with this page, and maybe finish together, i have troubles picking out which colors, maybe you could do more with that, ?? Love you.
+Kim Scales Hi Kim! Sure! I can do an episode on choosing colors and maybe making the most of the color wheel, too. I have an older one but the quality isn't so good. I'll see what I can do!
For blending also try original Chapstick. The kind of deodorant that goes on invisible that is white works well too. Just use a Q-Tip or stump etc..
ur video help me alot which i concern to buy items cheap but cost of shipment is ridiculous tnks for tips and great video.
thankyou for sharing. happy colouring.
Thank you, Kerry! Same to you!
Good job…… enjoyed your presentation!
How do you now when you have layered the right layers of color❤
Hi, this is a very informative video. What colours did you use exactly for the green/yellow leaves to get them like that? They’re so beautiful 😍
Thank you for this. Very helpful.
The cutting of the paint brush explains why i always had crappy streaks..great tip thank you mamacita!!!
You or so good at explaining ❤😅😅
Hi I am new two these colours and these videos really helped however I really would like to know how to do faces and how to shade then and that stuff with these pencils
Great video thank you for sharing with us
Thanks, Kathleen!
Can I use a Crayola white pencil for blending with white?
Can I ask? What isa rhe best markers for beginners markers that can be used for coloring just like copic
Great video and very helpful keep it up
Thank you Bhavna!
I concur
Great video
Thanks, Michelle!
i dont know if im using the right paper, everytime i try to blend white doesnt add up nicely, is it because of the paper im using?
what paper your using?
I've heard baby oil works the same as paint thinner?do you know if this is true? and thanks for the video, I'm getting prismacolours soon but started to panic as every one seems to be using paint thinner and wasnt sure if it was important.
oh pleased leave us hanging we need to finish this page together. thanks
HI Debbie! This is a tutorial series, and I've taught all the basics of Prismacolor pencils! I can record a final video, where I've finished the flowers, but the goal here is to use all the tips and techniques you learned to do the birds on your own. :) Remember - coloring is also about fostering creativity, and it's my goal to help!
Please, yes more videos, your amazing at this.
yh white pencils is the best imo
Thanks, great video!
Great info! Help me a lot.
Is this only for adults?????? 🤨 because I’m a teen and and I’m responsable with my stuff I’m an artist
Nope! Teens are more than welcome. :)
Simple Art for Adults ok 👍 ❤️❤️
I use aquarelle color pencils ... so can i use the prismascolor blending marker to blend out my aquralle pencils??
Erin I like my blender pencil too. It sometimes I have issues with it pulling the black line ink into my colored area causing muddy mix
Yes, that does happen from time to time. If you have a fixative, I've heard that pretreating your page will prevent those lines from smearing. I've never tried it, though! I don't like the texture the workable fixative leaves behind.
Glad i found this, but it'll have to be dropped into the watch later XP
but also, would the Staples Staedtler brand color pencils be blendable? they sometimes can, but from what i've done i can only make color darker or paler with other pencils :P
Will this work with scholar pencils
very helpful. Thanks
Thank you!
For people coloring along, is there an episode 5 yet?
Nope! We went over everything there is to learn about Prismacolor and there's nothing left to teach! People are asking whether I plan to finish this picture so I think I might, but it'll be a while.
Then, thanks for the skills in the series, i'm finding them very useful!
will this work with scholars too
You can use baby oil too 😊
Awesomeness thank youx
backgrounds would be nice
New subbie
Are those comfortable things you put around your pencils, latex free? I have an allergy, and need to find out before I buy.
Hi Jennifer! I'm not sure, but I got mine at Dollar Tree and I'm sure it would say on the packaging one way or the other. My packaging has been missing for some time now. Some of them are foam, and others are like a gelly plastic.
Simple Art for Adults Thank you!
Wal Mart and home centers sell OMS for less than $20/gallon
Can u do Polycolor pls
How to blend Spanish
prisma scholar colour pencils without blender
I got the scholar version and I can't live
twigx huh?
Where did you get the sand paper and what grit is it?
I got it in the hardware section at Walmart and I dont remember the grit, but it's a fine one. Look by all the tools and you'll see packs of sandpaper for electric sanding tools. Those are what I have.
You could go to an actual hardware store and buy sheets of it even cheaper, though.

What about oils?
What about the birds?
oil thinner is supposed to be used with oil based pencils. Prismacolor are wax based pencils.I guess that it works anyway but it is not the best option.
Oil thinner was originally created for oil paint, so you're right. It works best (more smoothly) with oil pencils. However, the solvents will also melt wax, which is why they work just as well with pencils like the Prismacolor and even Luminance. Professional pencil artists have been using solvents with Luminance pencils for decades. It's trickier with Prismacolor because it's easy to start picking up the color once you get several layers down, but it does work quite well if you use less and less solvent with each layer.
Simple Art for Adults thanks for the answer.
