What’s your favorite color combination for a gradient or ombre? (From this video, or your own combination!) P.S. all the Prismacolor pencil numbers for these are listed in the blog post here: sarahrenaeclark.com/rainbow-color-gradients
I love those muted vintage pastel gradients. And then...and I know this is weird, but those "poopy" colors. Like poopy green to poopy mustard to poopy reddish brown...
Well my favorite colors are purple, green and orange (the secondary colors) so I'm not sure how you'd make a gradient from those. I guess you'd have to use muted greys and browns in between??
@@reneedixonart your options are either greys or find the colors that sit between them on the color wheel. You could go darker or lighter with the inbetween colors if you want those main colors to stand out more.
You certainly can sing Sarah Renae! It was a lovely start .👏. Great video. I love gradients with purples and pinks I must admit. I’m definitely going to try some of the ones you did. 🙏 so much. Have as good a time as you can in lockdown Melbourne. Sending you, Shane and family best wishes.💜💖🌹
I like watching you use the color catalog because I know you're not just trying to plug a product, you designed it with intent to use it and that's what makes it a good product rather than a gimmick. You're using it because it helps you, that's what it was designed to do, not trick people into spending money for no reason.
I’m jumping back into coloring and drawing because of Sarah’s videos. It has been many years since I’ve turned to art and recently started using stencils and colors. My daughter is the little artist and I know she gets it from her mommy. Thank you, Sarah, for your encouragement and inspiration.
The "vintage" row of gradients you did not like as much are absolutely STUNNING! It made me want to pull out my mismatched collection of Prismacolor Scholar and try these out!
This video is fantastic. Thanks ❤ can't wait to try these out. Been looking for something like this for ages. Can you do a polychromos and luminance version ❤
I just bought my first set of Prismacolors (total beginner) and I’ve started by swatching them… now I know what you mean by ‘buttery’ - they feel sooo nice. Thank you for videos, I’m learning heaps and you’re very inspiring. One thing I’m wondering… do you have anything under your paper or is it just on the table top? Thank you 😊
I now question the fading effect my swatches as well. I wonder if spritzing them with a little uv resistant protective spray would help that at all...🤷♀️ Beautiful blends, I could never pick a favorite exactly, but instead found myself really enjoying the whole process.
Great fun Sarah! Love the idea of using washi tape to keep the combinations neatly separated. This exercise reminds me of a cross stitch I did years ago, making a gradient using DMC cottons. It took a while to do but looked so effective I ended up framing it :-)
Hi Sarah!…for awhile now I’ve been practicing gradients (with my Prismacolors and the reverse side of some watercolor paper) and I’ve been having trouble getting them to look pretty like yours. I recently bought a set of Caran D’Ache pencils. I’ve been wanting to try these out because I keep hearing that they are so good (I still love my Prismas the best so far). Today I was doing gradients again and after I finished a few it was like I heard a burst of angel song because they came out so GOOD! I’m so excited to see that I can do that but wonder if it’s the pencils or just from practicing. I consider myself fairly new to coloring even though I have been coloring now for many years. I am highly motivated to learn, I think I’ve just reached a pivotal point in my creative life and the juices are just flowing crazily. Whatever the reason why my gradients and coloring in general are improving, I’ll take it! Also, I know that my skills have improved a lot from watching your videos. You are very inspiring and the fact that you stress to not get discouraged if you are struggling but to just press on even if you mess up has helped me immeasurably to not freak out if things don’t come out the way I had envisioned but to just chill and let the process of creativity just flow naturally
Oh wow Sarah, just found your color catalogue for the first time and I had to get it. So amazing research, beautiful layout design and all together a great product tool :)
Bottom left is the closest to my fav pride flag! I also like the colour combination of the one in the row before last, far right. This was fun to watch!
This was a great tutorial! I wonder, if laminating the swatches after you color them helps? I have laminated all of my colors swatches and it seems they have retained their colors. I’ve also sprayed them after swatching with fixative. I’m hoping after all that work they will stay that color lol.
This was another great find as I searched for blending. I loved it so much I did it too! Thank you for the inspiration! Do you swatch templates? I searched on your site but no luck so far. Thanks!
One question I have already purchased both catalogs is there an offer for us to just buy the companion.Cant see that on your blog page. Oh, ❤️the Catalogs use them all the time lost without them and the colour wheel. Cheers, stay safe🌈
How old was the color chart that had faded? How often do you redo your charts? I am wanting a brand that would hopefully take over a year before the fading starts to show.
Does the prismacolor blender pencil have same amount of wax in? You used it to get rid of grain in paper rather than using a colour to prevent wax bloom. Doesn't the blender have just as much wax? Sorry. Confused
I wasn’t trying to prevent wax bloom. But there’s no point adding more pigment if you’re happy with the colors. Adding more pigment might change the look of the gradient or mess up the smooth transition of colors, so that’s when the colorless is a good option.
Love the blending but I think I need to know more about how to create, when to create the blend?? You just do it so naturally I can’t figure out when it starts/stops.. more or less pressure etc. if that makes sense.
It just takes practice and that part will work itself out the more you try. Use less pressure, until you feel confident to start adding more pressure on upper layers. My other video on blending (listed in the description) might be helpful too!
does anyone have any tips on how to avoid the washi tape ripping the paper? i spent a full 4 hours on doing the gradients and in the end it got ruined by the tape (and i did try to stick it to my clothes first to make it less sticky but apparently it's not enough)
I was going to suggest the clothes, actually! It would need a combo of less-sticky tape, or better paper. Or just finding a way to make them less sticky- so do the clothes thing more maybe?
Because why 😫 OMG why? Tell me 😳 I was gonna say: stick it to the wall and then that bit came on 😂 Looking forward to the next video. My fav was top middle btw 🙂
Great video, I don't think I ever did gradients quite like it, so I'm going to do that. I was wondering, is the page you're using is A4 size? Because it looks bigger. What size is the page? oh, and also, you have a lovely voice. :)

Nothing more satisfying than perfectly squared corners and perfect blends..😌😌
I watched this while I was working out… Soooo relaxing 😌🥰🌈
It is truly satisfying to watch the colours build up to beautifully deep, rich and smooth blends!
All the rainbows!! 🌈🌈🌈 So pretty!! 😍
Girl I love you voice thanks to your newest vid I ordered 150 of the prismacolors and this is what I’m starting with!

The colours you've picked blend so well. They look amazing! I will definitely use some of these combinations in my colouring.
Whaaaaa... The intro "🙌"... By the way my favorite is the 2nd column at the first row....💓💓

Hi! I was wondering what coloured pencils you would recommend for beginners 😊😊
I have recommended Prismacolor to many beginner friends, but if you find them too waxy, you might also enjoy Arteza or Markart.
@@SarahRenaeClark do you think waxy is better or not? thanks btw

That is honestly frame worthy. I might have to take a crack at this and hang it in the playroom
I think I might frame it too!
I love using watercolor pencils and Crayola makes a very cheap packet. That way my colors are so vibrant I've done paintings that way.

Hello Sarah what brand of color pencils will be good for a beginner like myself. Also great video 🌈
It all depends on your budget
Your voice is sooo nice mam.. At first 5 seconds I thought that the song was playing without music🤣
how do you get such smooth shading?? do you use some special art equipment?
Nope! Just the pencils you see in the video, and lots of practice!
@@SarahRenaeClark I use faber castells 24 colour pencil set and the shading comes out nicely but it is not very smooth

I’m working on some swatch templates but they aren’t on my site yet. Thank you!
so much colour!😀
I would love to get your color catalog. Is it only for IPads and phones or can it be used on a laptop or kindle fire?
It works as a PDF with links, so a laptop is fine. I’m unsure what Kindle Fire can do.
Would you please make a video on coloring glow in the dark or lights in the dark.
It’s on my list already! 😊
Yay thanks! That will be great for spooky coloring.

Do you have the sheets you used to swatch your pencils?
Yes, I’m including it in the swatch collection I hope to release soon- Covid has held me up, but hopefully I’ll have it out before the year ends!

What is the grid you're using beneath your paper?
That’s actually just the pattern on the washi tape. I didn’t choose a grid specifically, it’s just what was nearby 😊
How old was the color chart that had faded? How often do you redo your charts? I am wanting a brand that would hopefully take over a year before the fading starts to show.
It was about 2-3 years old, I think? And only a few colors had changed.
